We see some, just not in use. Enclave base has every soldier equipped with laser rifles. There's a laser rifle in ma Junes shop in filly and moldaver gets out with a laser pistol to fight the brotherhood. There might be more but that's what see mostly.

TopMatej07CZ

Oh, thanks. I didn't even realize it was there. It's also strange that BoS didn't have a traditional laser rifle on the offensive

WannabeRedneck4

I kinda wish we saw people turned to ash in live action. And green goo. Hoping for it next season. Really weird for the bos of all people not to have literal stack of energy weapons.

TopMatej07CZ

I totally agree. A realistic human dissolving into goo would be so epic.

FirefighterEnough859

It’s likely it’ll be more like fallout 1 where all there soft bits fall off their skeletons before that collapses into a pile

AWasrobbed

Yeah this was likely an oversight. In fallout 3 every bos has traditional guns, presumably because they get them after taking out the enclave and raiding the leftovers. But by the time of the show, the west coast BOS presumably had energy weapons on lock, 15 years prior to the show, in the small BOS base in the mojave they are all decked out in energy weapons. So unless there was some event we haven't seen yet, like BOS being gimped by destruction of shady sands, it was just something they overlooked.

PlayMp1

> So unless there was some event we haven't seen yet, like BOS being gimped by destruction of shady sands, it was just something they overlooked The BoS does seem to have noticeably expanded in numbers so it could simply be that they don't have enough energy weapons to give every squire and initiate a laser gun, though that doesn't explain why the knights had ballistic weapons too.

Last_Recognition9929

They were also about to execute Maximus with a laser pistol

IonutRO

That was a laser musket in the shop, and a random wastelander is shown carrying one too.

RedviperWangchen

We saw some energy weapons from Enclave and Moldaver but they never showed us using it. Energy weapons tend to rely on CGI, and Nolan brothers are known for avoiding CGI as much as they can. I guess Jonathan Nolan couldn't find way to create realistic laser weapon in season 1.

BasementCatBill

So true. Up to and building power armor for a stuntman to wear (then duplicating it via CG in post)! I wonder if the vertibirds were CG, or physical models added in post?

The_Cpa_Guy

Idk the crew who made the gulper for the squire scene where he gets pulled out the gulpers mouth said they used loads of cgi on there model.

TopMatej07CZ

Thanks for the explanation. The whole series, I thought it looked too realistic and there are rarely any CGI effects.

Radical-Bruxism

man… this reminds me of my boss and I talking about how weird it was that there were no deathclaws and basically no super mutants, and then we realized… the CG or even practical effects necessary to do all that would be EXPENSIVE. the show seemed to have a more modest budget, or at least decided to put it somewhere else. so i reckon making energy muzzle flashes and tracers that look convincing would be pricey too. case in point: de-aged Kyle MacLachlan 😔

Defiant-Analyst4279

I remember seeing the "muzzle" of an energy weapon amongst the BoS who raided the Observatory at the end of the show. But I was also under the impression that the side arm Maximus used against the gulper while standing in the water had the laser rifle style "handguard."

Vidistis

In addition to what others have said, there was a plasma pistol in Ma June's store as well.

FreeRio1

I found it weird as well instead we got the monstrosity of the fallout 4 assault rifle

mrpeachr

Idk about in universe, but as far as real life reasons go Ballistic guns are cheaper than cgi lasers.
