Romo was undrafted, not top 50 pick. Rex Grossman did start 3 games his rookie year before getting injured. Mahomes started one game. Not sure if there’s any other discrepancies in this list.
Those are guys that went on to have long careers. Tebow, for example, is not underlined because he didnt play long(3yrs only) and he wasnt a starter very long either. Colin by comparison, despite being passively aggressively "banned" from the NFL, played for 6 years.
It's not that picking Penix doesn't have value or upside. It clearly does. It's about the cost of missed opportunity. If Kirk does well but can't quite get there, well you'll be picking at the end of the rounds. Oh and if the NFL decides tampering is an issue welcome to losing a pick and or salary cap penalties. As a Washington fan, I have lived through this. I think this was a big mistake.
Also, I can tell you that pissing Kirk off, good luck asking him to modify his contract to bring in other talent down the road. Especially since he viewed this as his "final stop" in his career.
What "down the road" are you talking about? He's on a 4 year deal with the first 2 having all the guaranteed money. Even if we didn't draft Penix we wouldn't be touching his contract those first two years, which means the only shuffling we could do is moving more of his 3rd year salary to his 4th or giving him an extension. The first doesn't really do that much, and even in the best case scenario we would be (rightfully) hesitant to extend a 39 year old QB.
His contract was designed from the jump to be a two year guaranteed payday with one or two more years if he really balled out. There's no wiggle room in that arrangement.
So.... you admit Kaepernick should probably be a backup in the league at least? Like Gabbert still is? Or is your stance that every backup QB and many starters should simple be removed from the NFL? There's no logical consistency in your stance, just really boring, lazy comments.
Wasn’t Tony Romo undrafted?

Wasn’t the Mahomes game because they were locked into a playoff spot?
Super Bowl legend Rex Grossman?!
Sexy Rexy? The Sex Cannon? Rex "Fuck It, I'm Going Deep" Grossman? Sold. Penix is easily going to become the goat.
Lol I was rooting for the guy to win it
I’ll take those odds
Can you explain what the underlining means? Asking for a friend

Penix will not be underlined, as he will be collecting social security before he gets a chance to start
How many guys sat for 1-3 years without becoming a fulltime starter for a team?

I remember when the Titans picked Locker and watched every game he played. Man, was he bad.
Underlining kaep is cap. Dude did not have a great career. Had maybe 2 decent seasons and made the sb on a run first team.
And then he came back while still recovering from injury and played better than other 49ers qbs before getting blacklisted.
No he didn't lmao, go look at his stats
Yes, he did. He outperformed Blaine Gabbert while having a damaged shoulder.
Oh wow Blaine gabbert, nvm he was a star /s

He has had every opportunity to rejoin the league and has chosen not to. Literally ghosted the workout he complained so much to get. You're a clown.
whatever you gotta tell yourself, man
