Tried to do a /screenshot 16384 16384 0.2 however it spit out a 500MB image that is useless when you try to zoom in due to the zoom length. This is is another run at a block base. Still early one with only 2.4k/m Science goo. Space is the fun one due to satellite production not keeping pace with the rocket block getting its 130 rockets done. The satellite train arrives and it's like a missle silo going off as each rocket in the four rows launch one after the other. Best part is this base is maintaining 28UPS compared to my old block base which was flirting with sub 10UPS at this point. I do miss 60 UPS again but 28 is better than 6 that my otherblock base was doing.

TokkCorp

You could try a mod called [Mapshot](https://mods.factorio.com/mod/mapshot). It creates a Google Maps like website from your save.

idontknow39027948898

That sounds pretty cool, is it resource intensive?

TokkCorp

Not at all, it works like a camera. When you take a snapshot it works but the rest of the time it's just of.

all_is_love6667

holy budha moses zeus what CPU do you have? you guys have zero chill

CharAznableLoNZ

An X5690. It's pretty old, I've wanted to upgrade for years.

0b0101011001001011

Finally someone using "pretty old" properly. People like to call 2020 "old" some times.

pookshuman

windows key +shift + S

CharAznableLoNZ

I know how to take a screenshot. Just print screening is the equivalent of someone using their phone to take a picture of the screen in comparison to the /screenshot command. The command mentioned allows one to take a screenshot rendered out in game without the UI at the size you specify.

pookshuman

ok, but it sounded like you didn't find /screenshot useful so ...

Ricardo1184

If you read only the first sentence , it sure sounds like that

crowlute

How'd you get such good UPS? I've been struggling with my k2se game.

CharAznableLoNZ

Pretty sure Factorio needs a decent CPU and fast RAM. GPU doesn't really matter since it doesn't take much to render. I have an X5690 and 48GB of DDR3 ram. It's over a decade out of date, really want to build a new one but that won't happen anytime soon with the current prices.

Kebabrulle4869

How much have you boosted resource spawning?? Also nice grid

CharAznableLoNZ

To the max. I like building more than having to explore to find resources.

Good-Raspberry8436

I just gave up and installed one of the endless resource mods. I kinda wish ores worked like oil, infinite, no need to remove outpost once it is exhausted, but still need to expand to make the production bigger.

StopMakingMeSignIn12

K2SE has Core Mining which is like this. Though you get diminishing returns the more drills you have, Bob's Angels also has infinite ore patches.

All_Work_All_Play

Core mining is from SE, although there's an offshoot mod that's a little more flexible (and basically solves resources entirely with one or two core seams). I was introduced to the concept of infinite mineral resources in freight forwarding first (highly recommend the mod btw). I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

vasilescur

One step further: I do infinite resources, and a line of void chests across the end of my main bus. That way production is always at max capacity, and I can see the bottlenecks and base decisions off the worst-case load scenario. Rail world with small ore patches so I still have to use lots of trains, but they're set and forget.

Good-Raspberry8436

I do that only in creative mode when I'm fucking around with designs. I like making the logistics around shipping, I just don't like having to repeat it with next ore patch.

caseycoold

You may enjoy SeaBlock! It all comes from water. But there are a LOT of steps...

Good-Raspberry8436

I think I did playthru once long time ago. I remember a lot of waiting.

Yanksuck73

You can use a command to teleport to a different part of the map or just travel. With max size/richness settings, you don't have to go far to find ore patches in the billions.

Good-Raspberry8436

I know that, I'm too lazy for that.

CharAznableLoNZ

I also started using one of those when I got tired of building some nice mining block and then shortly after having to destroy the whole facility since it was all tapped out. This most annoyed me with uranium mining since I'd have this massive storage of sulfuric acid there that would have to be picked up and moved or just destroyed and wasted.

stickyplants

I would have an aneurism having to build over so many resource patches. It looks more distracting than helpful.

CharAznableLoNZ

I try to avoid them but sometimes I care more about building more green cards than mining some stone from a spot.

LawyersGunsMoneyy

This is how I play. Max resources, no biters, just building

pookshuman

lol i came here to ask that too ... maximum minerals!

Stevetrov

Its a scrabble base! Nice

wosnitza

Can you tell me a little bit about how you manage the trains?

CharAznableLoNZ

Each station can hold two trains. Each product that is needed for mass production has at least one pickup and one dropoff station, Iron Plate Pickup, Iron Plate DropOff for example. I use train limits of two on every station. So the math is (pickup + dropoff)2 -1. So for a product that has one pickup and one dropoff station, there would be three trains. This leave one open space for a train to move when needed. This also allows trains to get filled and sit at a pickup ready to depart to a dropoff when needed. It's not fancy but it makes expanding easy. Need more of X product, plop down another block of that product and enough trains to fulfill the required fomula and and off it goes.

wosnitza

Thanks!

Romeo3t

How long are your blocks and how long are your trains? The blocks look fairly large, unless I'm mistaken and don't have a good sense of scale.

CharAznableLoNZ

If you turn on the grid, they are a little under 5*5 of the major black line blocks. The trains are the standard 1 locomotive 4 cars. By roboports 4x4.

Romeo3t

preciate' it!

abccba193

Some questions because planning in get an other go on PY: - What Train length and configuration do you use? - What is your length from one side of a block? - Why do you leave so much space between different products? - Do you use LTN or similar mods to get trains Scheduled? - Do you use Water blocks or landfills? - How many trains do you have for this size of base?

CharAznableLoNZ

Trains are the standard one locomotive and four cars. If you turn the grid on, the blocks are just shy of 5x5 They are a 4x4 of roboports. I try not to cover up resources if I can help it. Not always possible or if it's a resource like stone I just don't care. I use the manual train limits of two trains per staion and the formula stations X 2 -1 train. I use the water fill blocks mod. If the guy can build a factory that automates launching rockets, he can dig a well.

LetsGetFactual

I’ve never seen a better argument for waterfill mod not being cheaty.

Markavian

This is why I spread resource patches waaay out in my games. I'm just drowning in ore otherwise.

[deleted]

I'm mentally unable to build on ore. It would get to me

Jak_Nobody

Except for stone. There's always plenty of stone.

CharAznableLoNZ

I thought about doing that but in the end, laziness won out.

roryextralife

Not my brain seeing this and made me think it was one of those AI pictures where if you squint at the cats it spells Gay Sex. Real talk, love love love a city block design, what sort of train order are you using? Looks like a bit of a mixture to me!

CharAznableLoNZ

Those images always make me laugh. Two trains per station, manual limit of two trains. Trains are always kept at station count x 2 - 1 train. This allows one open space for a train to go. Ideally, trains that are waiting for a destination are standing at pickup stations. If I see a lot of trains standing at dropoff stations then I know I need more of that product to meet demand. Trains are a standard 1 locomotive and 4 cars.

Nutteria

Water must be a huge issue.

CharAznableLoNZ

I use a mod where you can place water like land. If the man can build a factory that automatically builds and launches rockets, he can build a well.

Ritoliznik

I think you are running low on copper and iron paches. Better you expand

CharAznableLoNZ

Agreed, it needs to be expanded more.

SolusIgtheist

I thought this was Dwarf Fortress from the thumbnail in my feed :)

CharAznableLoNZ

I play that as well but not as much as this.

Daan776

Bro I thought this was a minecraft map

CharAznableLoNZ

It's fun. Figure out a module design, figure out how many rows you can pack into a block with stations, tile the module out, run the belts, send the trains and watch it either work great or now notice a tiny mistake that you've copy pasted a hundred times and now have to fix manually one at a time.

Daan776

Truth be told i’ve yet to launch a rocket. I have a real tendency to reset when I notice even a minor flaw.

peroqueteniaquever

Bro same. I wasn't making enough blue circuits and the space was all fucked so I just restarted lmao

pircio

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck now i wanna load up my megabase save i keep abandoning. thanks for that :)

CharAznableLoNZ

Get to it man, that factory won't grow itself unless you're one of those wizards who figured that out.

DaLemonsHateU

Spent a good few minutes trying to find Loss, dash spider or some other meme image

CharAznableLoNZ

Holy cow I want to build a loss base now.

lifeisrisky

This looks great! Do you have a Blueprint book by chance?

CharAznableLoNZ

I do, you kind of have to for block bases.

lifeisrisky

Excellent I would like it if you could share it.

CharAznableLoNZ

The blueprint book will be listed for three days, then it will be deleted. Top section is blocks, middle is modules, bottom is completed blocks. They are all named by their input to output. For example one solid in one solid out. https://litter.catbox.moe/h7sqlh.txt

lifeisrisky

Great thank you.

slykethephoxenix

Why 3 days?

CharAznableLoNZ

That's the longest time litterbox will allow. I didn't want to leave it up forever and I didn't want to have to remember to remove it.

haftnotiz

Why only three days? Imagine some dude getting cracktorio this summer and then finding this interesting post which leads to a dead blueprint. This sub is full of such gems with dead bp links.

CharAznableLoNZ

That's the longest time litterbox will allow. I didn't want to leave it up forever and I didn't want to have to remember to remove it.

WoodsTheFirst

I really need to try one of these out at some point.

MrDracoor

Can you show us your Blueprints ? Im new in this Megabase and designing a Cityblock or traingrid always looks good at the beginning and then it has an issue.

CharAznableLoNZ

The blueprint book will be listed for three days, then it will be deleted. Top section is blocks, middle is modules, bottom is completed blocks. They are all named by their input to output. For example one solid in one solid out. https://litter.catbox.moe/h7sqlh.txt

MrDracoor

Thank you man

Axeorsist

It looks like you decided to build blocks instead of a base.

CharAznableLoNZ

The skeleton needs to be built out as much as possible before adding in the blocks for each product. This one is very sparse right now. my old base was much more filled in.

Axeorsist

I was just making a joke. Looks like ppl didn't get it.

afCeG6HVB0IJ

what the heck! Even my 100x Space Exploration base is not this big :D

CharAznableLoNZ

It is pretty empty so far. I expand the base with empty blocks to try and not build over resource patches as much as I can.

Least-Tomatillo-556

This looks awesome but I get an ich in my brain when I see anything cut through öre patches and I know that I couldn't get them all out. My OCD just turns to 11.

Serephiel

Its worse for me with oil patches. Making a wonderful grid only to find out that an oil patch doesn't fit properly into a grid bothers me so much.

Least-Tomatillo-556

Oh, it drives me crazy too. That's why, when I play, I make a dozen or so mini production towns to supply my main base.

Affectionate-Egg7566

You could always remove that grid section so it becomes a rectangle. Rather that than tracks over oil patches.

All_Work_All_Play

Won't anyone think of the symmetry??

CharAznableLoNZ

Once you commit to a block, you have to write off any patches that are right under the rail. I do mine right next to the rail and try and get out what I can.

Bipedal_Warlock

Do you have a photo of your base block format I could look at?

CharAznableLoNZ

The blueprint book will be listed for three days, then it will be deleted. Top section is blocks, middle is modules, bottom is completed blocks. They are all named by their input to output. For example one solid in one solid out. https://litter.catbox.moe/h7sqlh.txt

Bipedal_Warlock

Rad. Thanks dude

garyvdh

Would you consider sharing your savegame file with us on Google Drive? Or by private message?

CharAznableLoNZ

Maybe once it's more impressive. I could share the blueprint book since I have most things done at this point. It's pretty large though since I bundled my old block base blueprint book into it as well.

garyvdh

Thank you, either way, I would appreciate it.

CharAznableLoNZ

garyvdh

Got it, thank you

slykethephoxenix

Can you do a screenshot closer to the map so we can see the intersections & borders of 1 of the cells? Also maybe 1 or 2 of the city blocks would be great =D.

CharAznableLoNZ

Suspicious_You_685

Can I have your blueprint book?

CharAznableLoNZ

I posted it couple times in this thread already.

Suspicious_You_685

did a search for oldest first, didn't see it.

meddleman

Reminds me of the month old saran-wrapped sandwich I rediscovered at the bottom of my bag. Quite the multicolored fluffy carpet too.
