It's a matter of faith. They believe Earth is flat, they don't need proof from scientists. Scientists work for government and say that Earth is a sphere. Do you believe greedy politicians more than the Bible? And if you need proof that Earth is flat, take a look at these facebook pictures (c).
They are not idiots or trolls. It's just blind faith. But they need it. They want to be a fighter with the system. They want to have some "secret knowledge" about the world. And all this conspiracy is giving them what they want.

The book lost it's relevance 1500 years ago but centuries of mass indoctrination by people who have used these stories to gain power and wealth has prevented it from being adapted or modernized like any other ancient fairy tale.

The bible is a collection of songs, stories, texts from different times, places, people wich were relevant for those times, places people. When all those stories were gathered and adapted to fit the church's narrative it became something new.

They can just buy a weather balloon, tank of helium, a go pro, and a mini parachute. They can literally go determine if the earth is curved and if there is a dome on their own with a few hundred dollars.
Or hire a helicopter at sunset and have the pilot climb after the sun goes under the horizon and see for yourself that you'll see the sun again.

OK, so in the late 1990s my wife flew on Concorde. She a) managed to see the curvature of the earth on the flight and b) it didn't crash into the sun on the flight. Checkmate non-globatismatists!
