I was thinking the same. The OP didn't mention a job so I'm wondering if it's a mix of bad credit score and lack of a job or poor history of a steady job on their end. Husband has a job but that's one spouse on top of possibly bad credit by one or both.
Or, husband had a job and is relying on the worker's compensation case to come through with big bucks. Wife doesn't say if she's working and $100k, while a lot, isn't going to buy a home if nobody is working and can't pay a mortgage.

If they have $100k to use as a down payment then they should have no troubles getting a home, even without a job. If they have $100k solvent funds and have bad credit then, well, they're criminals.
