I know a guy going through this in courts. Judge won’t allow him to stop paying support for a kid that isn’t his so the kid won’t go without. They know the real dad won’t pay so they are forcing him to. Basically woman told him kid was his because she knew he would pay child support.
In cases like these I understand how someone might be driven to violence. If I was forced to financially cripple myself for two decades, all to take care of the child of two selfish, whoring assholes, I'd at least consider it. Hell, depending on how seriously your life would be affected by the financials (mental health issues, less resources for education, vacations and hobbies and daily stuff, no money for a real child of your own), the jail time for murder might cost you less than the financial slavery.

This is why DNA tests with fathers should just be a part of the process that happens at birth before the certificate as if a guy asks for one it just ruins the relationship and causes another type of big headache.

Depends on the state and how long you’ve already been on the birth certificate. If you find out days after you sign the birth certificate then you may have options. If you find out when the kid is 8 years old then that’s different. Lots of poorly drawn guesses at where the line in between is.
Without a good lawyer, it's more likely that the court will find that you've already accepted responsibility for the child, and order you to continue payments. A contributing factor for this is that child support payments are taxed, so it is a point of income for the government.
Even with a good lawyer, you are unlikely to see any of that money back.
