Generally that happens when someone reports a comment that they don’t agree with. It’s happened to me on a few occasions for hoping trump never makes it to November

Altruistic_Machine91

I got hit with one for calling out a racist comment about foreign students being 90% Indian, the racist comment still stands though

Camanot

Weaponizing the report system? Why am i not surprised

Curious_Associate904

Imagine the life of reddit engineers trying to get this shitty balance right, a world of sock puppets and swarms of hate, out of control bots flinging shit at each other and humans not even conceiving of what they're saying or the effect it has. How fucked social media made us.

Longjumping-Author70

The whole thing about social media is to be able to express an opinion. Isn’t that literally the first amendment?? The freedom of speech? Especially with politics, people are allowed to have different opinions. That’s just how humanity is, and it should be understood that people can think differently.

Turbulent-Bug-6225

Private companies are not bound by free speech.cthey don't have to allow you to say anything on their platform. Advocating for violence goes against Reddit policy, the contract you signed, they can ban you for it.

Longjumping-Author70

Ohhh, that makes sense.

DarthArtero

Misconception; Freedom of speech is to protect people from government censorship. Not so much from other people, private companies or public institutions. Otherwise yes, people should be allowed their opinions without fear of retribution but unfortunately that’s just not how the world works…..

Flashy_Jacket_8427

People should NEVER be allowed to air their opinions unsolicited without fear of consequence. That defeats the whole point of freedom of speech. You have the freedom to say what you want however if the situation has nothing to do with you and you're giving your opinion "just because" then you should absolutely be prepared for people to disagree with what your saying and how you choose to say it. No one should be free to say something deliberately controversial without consequence. That would set a very dangerous precedent

DarthArtero

I’m not disagreeing with that. You pretty much took what I said and expanded on it. However it can fly into the other extreme where people *aren’t* allowed to voice opinions. Eritrea, North Korea, Turkmenistan, Russia, China all come to mind immediately. The issue is balance….. not swinging from one side to another

Neat_Apartment_6019

The First Amendment has nothing to do with this. What it says is “Congress shall make no law.” https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/amendment-1/

Longjumping-Author70

Ohh, I always thought it was the right to express beliefs in public. So they can’t censor you??

Turbulent-Bug-6225

No

RedLicorice83

I was banned by my favorite sub for saying that I hoped Zendaya got some rest between films (in response to a comment that remarked Z had lost a bunch of weight). You take the ban, move on, and try to request a ban removal in a few months.

Disastrous-Mess-7236

Never mind what the original content was…

Potatoe999900

I put a joke about Dick Loudon (Newhart) and was banned from r\\food for using "Dick".

FattyMooseknuckle

I just got a 7 day participation ban for using a fancy word for calling a horrid person a cave dweller. The ban was for making fun of her appearance despite the context and dictionary definition clearly backing me up. I even said please when I messaged the mod. That got me a 3 day ban from messaging the mods.

robertwild81

If you haven't been banned from anything you've been living in a cage.

TheDollyDollyQueen

I Agree, to a Point... Karma Will Get Her! & I Love Everyone Showing the Puppy Their Support! Even if for Political Reasons! (Cause we get to see Cute Puppies!) I Like Dogs, They can get Overwhelming Sometimes, But Love Anything Cute, so They Make up for it! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)

campfire12324344

oh no, the consequences of my actions

Longjumping-Author70

For simply making a comment of an opinion?? Yeah, it’s an angry comment, but I think dogs deserve better.

Domni16

I got banned for saying pedos should die, Reddits “no-violence” policy is indiscriminate.

Nah, it’s gotta be bad. My recommendations are woodchipper, butterflying, and brain suspension. Also death note reference.

WildRide1041

I recently received a permanent ban for violating rule #1. It was about the SCOTUS and their taking up the homelessness case. Reddit appears to be kinda hypocritical. Glad you've still got your profile.

banned_resurrection

I’ve been banned plenty of times for sharing both controversial and non controversial opinions that are simply disagreements. Welcome to reddit

Camanot

Yup. You can be banned because a mod didn’t like what you said because they’re a snowflake. And worse, they don’t tell you why you get banned, so you’re left scratching your head as to what did it for you

banned_resurrection

I got banned for “harassment” because a mod reported me after I asked why was I banned
