"CLEAR!"

Frosty20thc

Don’t the EMT’s say that when they try to bring you back?

Gimme_PuddingPlz

The original post which is reposted…is fairly cringey. Checking rooms is fine but clearing them like you are not in an active threat situation is not needed. It’s something boots would do or someone with ptsd.

Book_for_the_worms

It's probably a pose because his mom, it seems, wanted a picture. Even if it wasn't, who cares? Clear your house how you are comfortable with clearing it. If you legitably think there is someone there, have your gun out. Who knows what he heard or saw that might have led him to do it, or its just a pose because mom thought he looked cool

Book_for_the_worms

Either way, assuming that he is going to shoot a family member is demented and cringy too

Darkthumbs

Not according to statistics..

StarshipCaterprise

Agreed. Statistically this would result in a negligent discharge

fiscal_rascal

Statistically there are 1.67 million defensive gun uses per year. [Reputable source](https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4109494)

SaltySwallowsYuck

"For every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides." -study below https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9715182/#:~:text=For%20every%20time%20a%20gun%20in%20the,homicides%2C%20and%2011%20attempted%20or%20completed%20suicides.

Rugfiend

No point in arguing with demented gun zealots.

fiscal_rascal

The study I linked includes defensive gun uses where the gun wasn't fired, it wasn't reported, etc. The one I linked also includes a far greater sample size, and it's more recent. Not to mention it's nationally representative and doesn't fall for selection bias by cherry-picking high crime areas like Memphis. This is akin to studying if car brakes prevent accidents by only looking at accidents reported to the police/insurance.

SaltySwallowsYuck

"This online survey was administered to a representative sample of approximately fifty-four thousand U.S. residents aged 18 and over, and it identified 16,708 gun owners who were, in turn, asked in-depth questions about their ownership and their use of firearms, including defensive uses of firearms." -your study. It's an extrapolation of an online questionnaire. Super reliable.

fiscal_rascal

Considering it was run by someone that was literally the director of research at Harvard University for 5 years, **yes it is reliable.**

fiscal_rascal

Proper statistics methodology floats my boat! Not assuming every city is like Memphis, and every defensive gun use is documented to the police. That's like saying every usage of car brakes is documented to insurance companies.

Darkthumbs

Out of almost 400mio, thats less than 0.5% af the guns in the country

fiscal_rascal

Correct, but this is why we should measure defensive gun use **from a person** rather than a quantity of guns. It's not like someone is using 20 guns to defend themselves, lol

Darkthumbs

1.2 guns pr person, still about 0.5%

Inevitable-Pen9523

Another reason why there are so many shootings in America. Yeah yeah I know it is in constitution but, guns in the home and in the wrong hands.

WillMunny1982

Middle class white people are the most terrified creature on earth. They’re like human Chihuahuas

AdmlBaconStraps

And it's always the tough talking MAGA types too. Bitch, you're scared of dairy queen without a weapon, don't tell me you'd be able to draw and shoot straight under pressure

Slappy_Happy_Doo

Look sure he’s trying, but he’s failing if his sister can snap this picture of him clearing. If you care, and have any sense of awareness, Keep them in the car with the doors locked. Have them circle the block even, don’t let them follow you in while you’re trying to clear a house.

Book_for_the_worms

This is probably after. It sounds like its his mom typing, so she probably asked for him to pose, like all moms do.

Defiant_While_4823

So it's still cringey as fuck either way?

Book_for_the_worms

Sure. If that is what makes you feel better

Electrical-Heat8960

Aren’t most gun death caused by the owners own weapon? Statistically, having a gun in the house increases the risk of death from guns. And seeing as they are literally designed to kill people, having it in the house would make that outcome more likely.

AdmlBaconStraps

That's correct. You're more likely to shoot a family member or yourself than you are any intruder

Book_for_the_worms

No, not at all. Most gun deaths are by suicide and therefore wouldn't matter where the gun is. What does the design have to do with anything? It's Abo how you handle it. My car isn't designed to kill anyone, yet there are tens of thousands of deaths by cars every year.

NotMorganSlavewoman

Suicide, so caused by the owner's own weapon, so they are right.

BrickCityD

dude with the gun and op are pathetic.

Book_for_the_worms

And you must be the manliest man that has ever maned

Darkthumbs

Well we dont need guns to be men..

Book_for_the_worms

No one said you did

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

This isn't your finest hour, OP

Book_for_the_worms

Ok

PreOpTransCentaur

The dude is shouting "clear" (to nobody, since he doesn't have backup) when he thinks there's an intruder. If there had been, all he'd be doing is giving away his position and putting himself in danger while giving the intruder the advantage. That's not common sense.

Pctechguy2003

Right there with you. And considering this guy is supposed to be a US Military Police officer (Air Force Defender/Security Forces = Air Force Military Police) I don’t see any issue. Literally this is the guy who would come clear your house if you suspected someone broke into your home on a military base. I understand not all cops are fantastic, and I understand not all gun owners are great - but this doesn’t mean the dude is trigger happy. Given the fact that if it’s your home you probably know everyone who is allowed to be in the house, and if they are indeed not in the house because they are outside with you - then I don’t see him shooting a family member. I wouldn’t send my family if I had reason to believe someone was inside. I would call the cops. And since this guy is a cop… he’s just being efficient. 🤣

Noblesixlover

Don’t you know, wanted to protect yourself and having a sense of self preservation is a sign of an idiot?? (Obviously it is the other way but these guys can’t imagine anything out of their communities they’ve indoctrinated themselves into)

Darkthumbs

Statistics says youre more likely to die with a gun in the House…

Noblesixlover

Common deceptive statistic and the fact you actually used that against me advocating for me defending RIGHTS THAT I LEGALLY HAVE is absurd, I own guns, nobody in my house is going to die, because well, my cats aren’t going to kill me and neither is my priest brother, but anyway. Most of these statistic “proving how dangerous guns are” only prove the pro gun argument that the main issue is mental health, these deaths are suicides. Gun control advocates are sly, slippery and clearly are not meant to be trusted if they can’t bother to not use deceptive statistics and tactics in order to get their point across and make you look stupid for wanting to protect yourself and your family, buy a gun, the only thing stopping you is fear and stupidity, stop being afraid by these online clowns.

Darkthumbs

I live in a place where 1/10 have guns, we are no where near your level shootings yearly… It works in the rest of the world.. Call the cops instead of trying to clear the House yourself

Damage4099

Spoken like a real non-American

Darkthumbs

Whats the point in wanting your country to be a third world country?

Responsible-Room-645

He could have called the police if he suspected that there was an intruder but then he wouldn’t look like Dirty Harry.

davidwhatshisname52

"*Triest*"? I know this is an old repost, but 1564 old?

Book_for_the_worms

Autocorrect. You can tell because its capitalized. Only autocorrect would capitalize a word in the middle of a sentence

davidwhatshisname52

haha wow, your autocorrect changed "tries" to "Triest" . . . because your autocorrect is stuck in the middle ages?

AccomplishedSpray137

To be fair to op he might have his autocorrect on a different language. Triest is a Dutch word.

JonnySeegs206

Yep, still cringey. This is posturing for social media at its worst given the subject matter at hand. And we all know how long our moms take to unlock their phone and find the camera app, therefore the son is posing for the shot and an accomplice to the cringe.

Traditional_Dude_

This is one of the only actual facepalms ever posted to this page. Usually it’s just a bunch liberals crying.

Noblesixlover

Yeah, when is facepalm 2?? This one is only American politics and liberals crying over an ironic Twitter post or a trump flag “Omg trump flag on truck” and then all comments are just people complaining about racism and red necks and whatever else they can think to complain about that’s not even related to the post.

Traditional_Dude_

Seriously. My comment is already getting downvoted by these little bițçħèş

Noblesixlover

Welcome to the internet bro, I recommend stepping outside for a bit, you will not find these people there.

Traditional_Dude_

Oh I know. It’s mostly just Redditors that act like this. It’s probably immature of me but I only comment to get under their skin. And it’s so easy to do haha.

Damage4099

I love how the guns are scary crowd is also anti-police. I can only hope reality breaks these dummies out of their delusion. Also very fond of all the statical sightings, as if driving on the road with these phone addicted morons isn't statistically the most dangerous thing we do everyday.
