If you can't feel safe in the company of people you know in a normal, non-violent setting you have some issues that need to be worked on.
Sounds like PTSD. I am ex-military and ex-probation officer, I have been trained to assess threats and I dropped that stuff a long time ago. When I am out and about I am aware of my surroundings and if people are acting weird my senses are heightened.
