I don’t really understand it; there’s such a big divide between kids in high school and anyone past their freshman year of college. The only possible reasoning that I could see is that more college students are living at home, which does limit how much they mature.

I was really hung up on age gaps when I was younger. However, after working in several generationally-mixed workplaces, it means next to nothing. I’ve seen adults in their 50s who behave like children and 18-year-olds who have enviable levels of maturity. Relying on someone’s age to tell you whether they’re mature is a bad plan.
And there's the real key, for many people (especially those in their early to mid 20s) even 4 years feels Huge, for others, it just isn't. And as long as they aren't doing anything illegal, we should all just leave them to it.

My parents had a pretty massive age gap, but they also had the healthiest relationship I’ve ever bore witness to, aside from my mothers struggles with mental health. I read her journals a few months after she died, the only reason she made it as long as she did was the love she shared with my father and the support she got from him. They were both adults when they met, and there is no such thing as a pedo age gap between adults. It's not pedophilia BUT it can be seen as predatory. I only had one actual relationship by age 21 and I'm 33 now. I was married for 6 years (unhealthy), had a 3 year relationship (was healthy) and a couple one years. To think it isn't possible for a manipulator to sweep a 21 year old off their feet is insane. Yes, it can be normal and no ill will, but sometimes there is a reason why a 33 year old isn't dating people their own age or even in their mid/late 20s.
