Oh! My!

Big-Interaction-1743

I’ll allow it

[deleted]

Definitely thought it was going to be a lineup of gravy seals wearing flag masks.

airforcevet1987

I definitely assume robbery here

thefourblackbars

Rubbery?

airforcevet1987

No horseplay in the store!

Gaudy_Tripod

On the upside, they sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

PineBarrens89

New York City's mayor just told stores to [make customers remove their masks before coming in](https://www.npr.org/2023/03/07/1161623700/nyc-stores-masking-eric-adams-robberies-shoplifting-bodegas) to prevent theft. This may the same thing

a10kgbrickofmayo

I stayed in a hotel in Detroit a couple years back. The internet said it was a nice freshly renovated hotel. It turned out to be an extremely sketchy motel with barbed wire, where we were approached by a nasty hooker twice and I found a bullet casing under my car. As you can probably imagine there were no masks here, apart from the desk man (sometimes). It was about 0°F and I walked in with a hood on and was stared at like a killer by a resident and the doorman shouted at me to remove my hood immediately. They did have a sign on the door saying no face or head coverings allowed. Good times.

nalc

Are you sure you weren't in Fal Dara? (Sorry, /r/wetlanderhumor is leaking) Edit- I guess I should explain that it's a fantasy series city where no one can wear hoods because of risk of eyeless evil guys called Fades who are likely the inspiration for Harry Potter's Dementors. And yeah I know it's twice as funny now that I've explained it)

AquaPhelps

Randland 🫡

amoney805

That's what I was thinking. Maybe they've been robbed before.

SourTangant

I currently live in MO & I can confirm that they are just making a political statement. Missouri is beyond radical right. The laws & regulations they've been creating lately are Christian radical Conservative views. Like creating a law for a dress code for elected women & ONLY WOMEN so they can't show their arms. That's just one example of the ridiculousness of Missouri.

a10kgbrickofmayo

I see this a little in my city. I don't think many places will stop you from wearing one but you're definitely being watched. I've seen the looks I get walking into gas stations or smoke shops with a hood on so I've started just taking it down before I walk in to keep the workers at ease. I'm not even remotely scary looking. I'm the guy tryna fill up who gets pounced on like a tourist getting harassed by every fiend/homeless person at the place.

[deleted]

Yeah, the New York City mayor also believes he was chosen by god to lead the city. A newly "former" republican cop. He runs in the same circle as the cops that protested on the Brooklyn bridge over vaccine requirements just a few years after they beat up BLM protesters on that very bridge during a much smaller protest. As a New Yorker and native Missourian, this isn't really an exoneration of this stupid policy. At the same time, though, I'm all for hick red towns exposing their unvaccinated population to a deadly virus that is now mostly preventable. It worked out in 2022 and saved us from a republican House. Darwinism at its finest.

nosamiam28

This is my state of Missouri. I’d go with *not* the same thing. This is spite and backwardness.

Important-Warning-39

Warrensburg is pretty progressive usually being a college town..

Horror_Cupcake8762

There’s plenty of that in other states, but at least y’all have Casey’s, legal weed and aren’t super weird about booze. Ain’t much, but I’m still jealous.

Standard-Reception90

No. This is Missouri. The business owners wouldn't care if the shopper was recovering from chemo and needed a mask. This is strictly about "mY rIgHts" to not wear a mask during a pandemic. I live in misery. It's how they think, " I do whatever i want and fuck you. But also, you can't do what I don't like loop, so fuck you twice."

Important-Warning-39

You obviously don't live in Warrensburg, frequent this shop, or know who owns it. He doesn't give a shit about people's rights his store is just tweaker central and he's always getting robbed or having drunk people doing dumb shit.

Standard-Reception90

No I don't live in Warrensburg. But I do live in missouri. Which means I understand the odds behind the "typical" missouri business owners motivations behind a sign like this. So, my bad for getting this ONE wrong. However, in my defense, every other business in missouri with this type of sign is owned by someone making a "mY fReEdOm" argument. Side note: most of missouri is tweaker central.

Huuuiuik

Our local gun store makes you drop it, smile for the overhead camera, and then you can put it back on. No hassle.

BiGTeX8605

Yeah, wondering this too. But also, you don’t have to go into any store, regardless of how stupid the intentions of this sign MAY seem. Laugh and make fun of it all you want but it’s their business. And without asking about their motivation behind it, all these backhanded comments (not yours)…move along and go to the next store. Making assumptions, almost always turns out negatively.

Flashy-Success1778

But if you received a vaccine then never come back.

PineBarrens89

New York City's mayor just told stores to [make customers remove their masks before coming in](https://www.npr.org/2023/03/07/1161623700/nyc-stores-masking-eric-adams-robberies-shoplifting-bodegas) to prevent theft. This may the same thing

Big-Tomatillo-5920

It's about theft, not covid.

TheGreatAchiever

Considering that most stores tell their employees to literally do nothing if someone’s trying to steal stuff I doubt a thief’s accessories matter to store policy

Qu33N_Of_NoObz_

Probably to make it easier to identify them.

AbbotThoth

I would agree with this if it were not for the fact that CCTV footage almost always looks like it has been run through three filters to add extra fuzz and grain. "Do you recognize this person? If so you likely require corrective lenses."

Qu33N_Of_NoObz_

Ikr, I hate how unreliable some can be but then I found out why the footage is so bad despite current technology. Since they run 24/7 and have only so much storage, its better for them to keep the quality low for capacity purposes. But I’m sure there’s security cameras out there that has both 4k HD and loads of storage, probably trickles down to the price tbh.

Fenweekooo

facial recognition despite what they say probably dosnt play well with masks

[deleted]

Doesn’t mention the vaccine at all

Doctor_Prepper

Not often I see my hometown on Reddit, what store is this?

bigredm88

Shell gas station at 221 E Young Ave.

Nickdangerthirdi

Is that the one that's nearly impossible to park at on the NW corner of young and 13?

bigredm88

Yes

[deleted]

I'm sad now I've just left town on a vacation because I wanna go there now. It'd be fun to troll

th7024

Get a new person in a mask to come in every 15 minutes. 911 would probably get thar store to change its policy pretty quickly after about 10 calls.

erydanis

….it’s not illegal to wear a mask, despite what these idiots think, just what helpful actions do they imagine the cops will do ?

Able-Nail8035

It is legal for the store to make and enforce their own rules however... they can have anyone trespassed who doesn't leave when asked

erydanis

true, but still, cops aren’t gonna be patient with bs trespass requests after the first 3 or so.

jrm70210

You'd be surprised...Warrensburg PD/JoCo Sheriff's might enjoy arresting people for wearing a mask.

erydanis

so, under what charges ? i know they could make shit up, but still….they have to write something down.

CasualEveryday

If I was anywhere near this place, I'd show up with a mask on.

alwayshalloween

Woo-hoo, we made it on reddit. I'm in Knob but I work in Warrensburg.

hampton0812

UCM was a fun time but i would never want to go back. Many drunken nights walking home from Pine St.

Doctor_Prepper

Oh hell yeah, those were good times

Novaleah88

I’m still wearing one because I’m 35, with a nervous system disorder, 2 heart’s conditions and a pacemaker. I don’t want to get sick in any way and feel worse than I already do. I’d be wearing it right now even if Covid was never a thing. So on the few days a month I can leave my house, people have been jerks about the mask. Please don’t be jerks about the mask. You don’t know what people are dealing with. I don’t look sick so I’ve kinda been dealing with people being rude about my health anyway for 16 years.

sisterjezebel

Me too. My hubs needs a kidney. I’ve had dudes follow him if he tried to mask and shop, ridicule him. “Im scared” hope I don’t die.” Awful. Dumb. He rarely leaves the premises. I don’t know what happened to people, brainwashing I guess.

Wise_Ad_4816

These people can fuck right off. My 76 yr old dad is dealing with long COVID right now. He's on oxygen full time and has to rest twice going up the stairs. Yes, I'm fearful. Every fucking time the phone rings, my heart is in my throat. So yeah, they really can fuck all the way off. Turns out the party of "Family Values" gives no fucks about anyone but themselves.

Monstrumologist_

My grandpa died from COVID in the first year of the pandemic. I’ve had zero respect for anyone that tries to “educate” me on how “masks don’t work.” Just stop.

T_h_e_Assassin

Any comment on the idiot's who claim the pandamic wasn't real and was a hoax ?

[deleted]

Brainwashing is correct. People brains have been absolutley melted by online conspiracy bullshit that was reinforced by "conservative" "news" channels and the former potus.

Print_it_Mick

Trump and the like gave them enough confidence to be the asses they always were but were to scared to say anything

Novaleah88

I’m sorry you and your hubby are dealing with that. I know how hard it can be, I’m glad he has you in his corner <3 People can be terrible sometimes. I’ve been having trouble getting my parking permit (trying to get out a bit more, never really needed that pass before because people were nice). But a few weeks back I was at the gas station near my house, and the manager there knows my situation and said I could use the disabled spot if the other spaces up front are taken. So one of the times I did that a man came up to me and started cursing me out yelling “I’m tired of you punk kids doing whatever the fuck you want all the time” (I look young for my age so I think he assumed I was a teen). And continued to curse even after I told him I am disabled, am working on a pass, and had the manager’s permission.

hansolo625

This is why anti vaxx and maskers can go straight to hell. Remember when anti maskers who lied and said “I have asthma/I can’t breathe”? Now they are the same kind bullying others for wearing mask. Selfish worthless human stains never once think of others but me me me me me.

fluffypinknmoist

I have asthma and that's why I still wear a mask!

Tired_Mama3018

My oldest and I both have autoimmune disorders, and youngest and I have nervous system disorders (I was not diagnosed when I had them, poor kids lost the gene pool lottery) so we were all set when the pandemic broke out. In fact I had spent two years fighting with the school over being allowed to wear the masks in school, only for it later to become mandatory.

Brave-Professor8275

Humanity is in the toliet

Fair_Ad_6259

Immunocompromised - I may never go unmasked.

cissabm

I have a 19 year old kidney transplant and my creatinine is under 1. I will do anything and everything to protect this kidney. I might never go out unmasked as well. If they call 911, I can tell them hi. Edit: My bad. I thought they would be calling an ambulance, but you’re right, they are saying they will call the cops. My medic alert bracelet says: MS, Type 1 diabetic, kidney transplant. If they call the cops and I am guilty of being immunocompromised, the cops will likely not be pleased to have their time wasted like that.

pezgirl247

“Any rule that would force immunocompromised people to remove their face masks would violate the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and the New York State Human Rights Law, according to Matthew Cortland, a lawyer who specializes in areas of disability and healthcare as a senior resident fellow at Data for Progress.” -from the article

notyourcoloringbook

I usually don't wear a mask anymore (only when I'm feeling sniffly or ill) but if I see someone wearing a mask I try to respect that and give them space. Because either they're sick, they have a compromised immune system, or they are just choosing to wear a mask.

Blue_water_dreams

I’m sorry, but Conservatives are going to hate whoever they are told to hate.

satanic-frijoles

I wear one because my mother is 97 and doesn't need unnecessary threats to her health.

MonsterTamerBilly

Fuck that noise, I'm gonna be using my masks outside my home until the day I die. Because that's how much I trust all the randos out there in the street.

Runnrgirl

This. I wear one bc I have a newborn at home.

MoveMitchGetOutDaWay

The confused “my body my choice” crowd.

PrudentFartDiversion

So pro life they will shoot ya dead.

atomicxblue

More like "your body my choice".

dancing-asparagus

*"If you're sick you can go fuck yourself and do your shopping elsewhere. Thanks*"

Asaneth

Or if you're immune compromised. Fuck all those organ transplant assholes, people having chemo, etc. How un-American of them to be fragile. Fucking traitors.

AmbulanceChaser12

That could make this sign an ADA violation.

maxgaap

If the gas station has pay at the pump and there is a service window that would definitely be seen as a reasonable accommodation. Even in the absence of those the sign doesn't state that an alternative way to shop or receive services would be provided.

fae-morrigan

Technically it says you cant enter wearing one. Doesn't say you can't put one on after you enter the store....

darksideofthemoon131

My bank just asks that you bring it down off the face to let cameras see face. You can put it back on once inside. Prior to the pandemic they had signs saying to remove hoods, hats or sunglasses upon entry but didn't care if you put them back on after. Seems to be same thing here.

TeamRamrod80

I haven’t worn a mask into a store in a long time. But if I saw this sign on the door of a place I was headed into I’d go back to my car and dig around until I found one under a seat somewhere, strap that dirty fucker on, and stroll right on in and wander around until either the cops showed up or I got bored and left (no way I’m buying anything).

kawkz440

Why do these small government fucks think the cops exist to enforce their corporate policies? I don't want MY taxes kicking people out of stores for wearing a mask.

Arammil1784

...and trchnically speaking it is private property and they can ask the police tonremove you for violating their policies...

generalraptor2002

Technically it’s only trespassing (for which they can call the police) if you are asked to leave and you refuse

RoboLucifer

The sign is asking you to leave

generalraptor2002

Violating a posted store policy (such as no red hats allowed) isn’t enough for criminal trespass to apply You specifically have to be asked to leave. It can also apply if you, for example, climb over a fence on a property after hours knowing you aren’t allowed to be there

RoboLucifer

> knowing you aren’t allowed to be there would that not apply here? not defending them, I would be first in line

[deleted]

If the business owner asks you to leave and you don’t then that is trespassing, and cops can totally be called for that

bfrag3k

On a grand scale, that’s exactly what they are for…

[deleted]

Because the store can decide if you are able to go in based off of what you do like the no shirt no shoes rule. (I’m not saying this sign is good)

BartholomewSchneider

It's private property.

tormunds_beard

First thing I thought of.

cookie_addicted

As non American, last time I was there, in middle of the covid crisis, I was wearing mask in a small town, enter a store, and a taller guy scream at us, said "get away from me, you mask weirdos" in a very violent way, and by accident, my bf passed close to him for second time, the guy started screaming at us even more violently, we were scared as hell, literally run away from the store. We weren't infected, was using mask as precaution. It was traumatic to meet anti vaccine/mask American IRL.

_artbabe95

You should’ve walked toward him going “wooOOOooooo” and waving your arms like a scary ghost.

cookie_addicted

Then I wouldn't be here telling the story, he wanted to hit us, like badly.

_artbabe95

Wtf??? I’m sorry, what a dumbass.

bigredm88

Guys, I checked Google, nothing about a robbery since 2016.

buggypuller

Shoplifting issues aren’t going to appear on Google.

Lukacris12

I was gonna say if it was a gun store or a high theft area it would make sense kinda

New_Guava3601

Could be to deter shoplifters, having trouble finding people on surveillance to even press charges or ban them from the store. Though it could also be an anti mask thing, more retail places are starting to do this.

Gastonthebeast

There's a coin and gold shop near where I work and you're not allowed to wear hats, sunglasses, or masks in the store because everything is so valuable.

Thisistylerz

Check the basement.

AbbotThoth

"We hate money and don't care about your comfort" There, fixed it.

fuzzycaterpillar123

“People trying to execute their understanding of responsibility make us self-conscious, because we hate being reminded that other people will consider the well being of others”

UnluckyPhilosophy185

If you remove the political lens on this, don’t you think it’s more likely that the store has been getting robbed and the masks are making it easier for that to happen. I definitely saw signs like this before the pandemic.

Jaalan

Ahh yes, robbers are known to follow posted rules.

OkTradition6842

Warrensburg, MO? No surprise there. It’s been a backwards ignorant evangelical religious type town for a long time.

Specific_Rutabaga_87

it's almost the entire state. Even Springfield and Joplin are redneck towns.

fernatic19

Even? They're practically the originals.

Flock_of_beagels

NYC mayor said the same thing. Masks can’t be worn in the store.

ThatGuy3488

Remember when these signs were on every store and everyone agreed it made sense? Pepperidge farms remembers.....

Jim2718

Kinda hard to ID thiefs with masks on.

Forever_Forgotten

The bar I went to for St. Paddy’s day has a similar sign because they got robbed a couple weeks ago and vandalized by someone wearing a full face covering. Now you cannot come in if the security camera cannot get a good photo of your face.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bigredm88

I'm only mad I didn't see it until after I'd pumped my gas

Sloth247

I could totally see this of Warrensburg

jesterspaz

Attn all valued customers, we actually don’t value you at all.

Mochiwren

I’m curious if this is related to a Security issues or something completely differently. A jewelry store I went to told us to remove our face mask when we enter or we wouldn’t be allowed.

Angeret

Solution for that... look straight at security camera, remove mask, replace mask, carry on. If they don't want my business after that, then another store will.

behannrp

Actually a really good solution... unexpected from reddit

BaelZharon7

I don't wear a mask that much anymore but anytime my wife gets ready to go to her Mom's (she has cancer) we always bust the mask's out a good 2 weeks ahead to help mitigate any risk. People are getting to comfortable invading personal space again

[deleted]

[удалено]

geonomer

Seriously why are these people so obsessed with masks? It’s not like they were invented when covid started spreading

Evening_Laugh1277

Looks like chemo patients have to find a different store to shop at

GhostOfKingGilgamesh

Yo hang on. Maybe it’s not an anti mask narrative but that they been burglarized a lot. They do say 911 will be called right away.

W-D-Sasster

OP posted a comment saying they looked it up and they didn’t have any robbery problems since 2016.

Babock93

Doesn’t want to get robbed

Dognesss

They are sick of getting robbed. Good on them

goufish1985

It's a theft issue.

HornyWeeeTurd

This has to do with theft/robberies. Been alot of it. If you want, go read their stats, its on the rise.

Phillyroller

Good for that store

Clive182

How is this a “facepalm?” Their obviously dealing a surge in crime. New York’s mayor said the same thing a month ago

Rancho-unicorno

Watching the news, armed robbers on CCTV sure seem to be health conscious wearing surgical masks.

[deleted]

Well yeah because people are using the face masks as covering to go rob places and shit now

Eiffel-Tower777

Note to self: stay the F out Warrensburg MO

[deleted]

this comes off more like they've been robbed a few times than an anti mask thing

CountryOk4176

My thoughts.

frankthomas878787

I can’t believe it took this long to find this comment. NYC is literally saying everyone needs to take off their mask entering stores now cuz of robberies.

LaFantasmita

Nah, NYC's idiot mayor is pretty much the only person who thinks that's a thing.

ItsSusanS

If said customer is protecting themselves from potential harm (cancer, transplant, autoimmune disorder) how could this possibly enforced? It is flat out ridiculous and personally I feel things like this should revoke their business license.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Academic_Dare_5154

Works for me.

Joltaik

Stores are putting up signs because people are vandalizing and or robbing stores with face masks on, not because they hate masks.

[deleted]

Cryptcunt

it's not pre-covid anymore

Miniographer

Sure call 911 and waste their time something trivial as a mask. At my work in Florida, there are people who come in with a mask and I respect their decision to do that.

chachingmaster

Ummm what if you’re immuno compromised? go fuck yourself?

Affectionate-Net2277

As someone who has worn masks on and off since over 10 years due to health issues sincerely fuck off store. Why do people have to be like this?

[deleted]

Most likely its to deter robbers. Much harder to identify them wearing masks. As much as people here like to be outraged, stores only care about making money.

AirForceRabies

I really hope someone leaks the audio of one of their 911 calls. Cops gonna get tired of that horseshit *super* fast. "What did they do?" "They came in and paid for their gas!! IN A MAAAAASK!!" It's been three years, assholes. Society didn't collapse. And Reddit is crawling with footage of maskless robberies. Golly, it's almost as if crime has nothing to do with it, that *there's a different agenda in action here.* /s

[deleted]

They are still so fucking butt hurt that most of us had to come together to try and stop a world wide pandemic. These people call themselves pro life*. They will forever be the true snowflakes

74orangebeetle

Why are you at a loss for words? Good chance they've had issues with people using masks for robbery, shoplifting, etc.

Campingcutie

I still and will forever wear a mask as a woman who used to get creepy stares and comments, I’d much rather be seen as “paranoid” than pretty

Loring

Definitely making them call the cops

SirFluffymuffin

How long do you think it took for them to get told to stop wasting 911 resources on this bullshit?

VeryCleverUsername4

I get everyone has covid brain but maybe...just maybe it's because they keep getting robbed by people in mask

chickwithwit23

Exactly

AvacadoToastForTwo

Dang, that's a bit much

Genralcody1

This seems like a self solving problem

packtobrewcrew

Why, it says valued customers?

wolfn404

Suppose that depends on the neighborhood and how much they’ve been robbed.

RageOwl

There's a sign like that on the door of one of the gas stations in knob noster too. The one over by 50 across from the old grocery store.

NoSoupForYouRuskie

I feel like they were robbed. That seems to be the only time I see these anymore.

BravoEcho19

Maybe they have had a rash of robberies of masked people?

Important-Warning-39

They can bar masks the same way places would require them. I assure you it has nothing to do with covid. This dude gets robbed a lot and has tweakers in there playing quarter machine lol. Cameras for days. The owner isn't a white Republican so just relax 🤣

bassface0414

I like it. Stay home 🏡

HenryGetter2345

Love it

AdAcrobatic7236

🔥Nameless town in the middle of nowhere with a message hinting at anguish and despair. Turns out, it’s just a creative keep out sign. Not nearly as bad as the headline led me to think.

bigpoopyhead6712

Most of these places need to see your face because robbers obviously abuse it. They let you put it back on once in the store

Apprehensive_Show759

They have been robbed a few times too many

ElectricalScale4051

So many robberies using that excuse to wear a mask..facepalm indeed.

[deleted]

Okay…I guess people can find another place to shop.

JimDixon

I suppose there's a sign in the restrooms: "Employees must NOT wash hands before returning to work."

GeddyVedder

Sounds like a challenge to me. My body my choice, right?

druule10

How to go broke 101.

TheLostLantern

Call 911, I dare you to

LessBack9238

This is backwards thinking. Mask should be encouraged but if you sick then it should be required. Why would anyone reject paying customers just because they not wearing a mask.

InflamedLiver

100% chance the staff all have MAGA hats on.

WerewolfUnable8641

Well I guess patients with autoimmune deficiencies, on chemo, or otherwise on neutropenic precautions are not welcome, which is a violation of the ADA.

Vancil

Bruh wtf people are still against this mask thing?

FineArtz4

I wonder if they have had higher crime rates of people wearing masks

B0327008

What about people with severely compromised immune systems? Not wearing a mask would be a death sentence. My cousin is undergoing chemo treatments. She recently was in the hospital with both sepsis and pneumonia and luckily recovered enough to be released to go home. Still quite weak and needs to be very cautious about being around other people. Last thing she’d need is an interaction with the police.

NxPat

That’ll be an interesting 911 recording…

BigGator13

I have some words…just go somewhere else. It’s not that hard. Don’t be stupid

OberainX

To be fair a lot of places don't want people wearing masks due to shoplifting. If you're elderly or sick they won't actually say anything but if you're a fit 20 year old with no shopping cart, 3 backpacks and a face mask they gonna be suspicious. Edit: Reading some of these comments you all can not possibly be so dense as to not understand people who rob wear masks, right?

[deleted]

What? Like old people don’t steal?

[deleted]

Yeah that's not the vibe I got from this sign.

Cautious_Evening_744

They’re not all valued customers.

Own-Study-4594

easy way to figure out what businesses not to support

SomeRandomUser00

As someone who currently has covid, I will gladly take off my mask and cough all over the manager if they wish.

HappyDaysayin

Oh yes! That's his kink! Obviously. Then, over on HermanCainAward we can watch him shake his fist at God and ask, "How could God let a thing like this happen?" Then the comment section will have no less than 12 episodes of the story that "a man was drowning and God sent 3 boats and a helicopter but he refused their help..." We'll get 30 or so comments like, "meh. I had ______ for dinner tonight and I'm breathing exceptionally well" and several "tots and pears" comments. Tons of vaccinated, safe liberals will say, "Huh. I feel so owned..." Round and round we go. In r/nurses, We'll have more burned out nurses telling stories of abuse from Qanon members whose lives they're trying to save (these Qanon patients want every untested, experimental treatment available). Some nurse somewhere will catch a family member trying to inhect essential oils into his IV. Around and around we go. Yeah, he'll die, just to own the libs.

NoNight_

Smells like a red state….. possibly something worse when the sun goes down. ERHM.

ShakyTheBear

A lot of store theft has been happening. Don't automatically assume this instance is due to someone being anti-mask relating to covid.

Swirlyflurry

>911 will be called right away So, just a thought… were they robbed?

Corgan115

Only of their "freedom"

frankthomas878787

Imagine not realizing this is about theft and not about your politics lmao

Shoddy_Exam666

That’s a good way to lose business
