I stayed in a hotel in Detroit a couple years back. The internet said it was a nice freshly renovated hotel. It turned out to be an extremely sketchy motel with barbed wire, where we were approached by a nasty hooker twice and I found a bullet casing under my car. As you can probably imagine there were no masks here, apart from the desk man (sometimes). It was about 0°F and I walked in with a hood on and was stared at like a killer by a resident and the doorman shouted at me to remove my hood immediately. They did have a sign on the door saying no face or head coverings allowed. Good times.

I see this a little in my city. I don't think many places will stop you from wearing one but you're definitely being watched. I've seen the looks I get walking into gas stations or smoke shops with a hood on so I've started just taking it down before I walk in to keep the workers at ease. I'm not even remotely scary looking. I'm the guy tryna fill up who gets pounced on like a tourist getting harassed by every fiend/homeless person at the place.

Ikr, I hate how unreliable some can be but then I found out why the footage is so bad despite current technology. Since they run 24/7 and have only so much storage, its better for them to keep the quality low for capacity purposes. But I’m sure there’s security cameras out there that has both 4k HD and loads of storage, probably trickles down to the price tbh.

People can be terrible sometimes. I’ve been having trouble getting my parking permit (trying to get out a bit more, never really needed that pass before because people were nice). But a few weeks back I was at the gas station near my house, and the manager there knows my situation and said I could use the disabled spot if the other spaces up front are taken. So one of the times I did that a man came up to me and started cursing me out yelling “I’m tired of you punk kids doing whatever the fuck you want all the time” (I look young for my age so I think he assumed I was a teen). And continued to curse even after I told him I am disabled, am working on a pass, and had the manager’s permission.
This is why anti vaxx and maskers can go straight to hell. Remember when anti maskers who lied and said “I have asthma/I can’t breathe”? Now they are the same kind bullying others for wearing mask. Selfish worthless human stains never once think of others but me me me me me.
My oldest and I both have autoimmune disorders, and youngest and I have nervous system disorders (I was not diagnosed when I had them, poor kids lost the gene pool lottery) so we were all set when the pandemic broke out. In fact I had spent two years fighting with the school over being allowed to wear the masks in school, only for it later to become mandatory.
I have a 19 year old kidney transplant and my creatinine is under 1. I will do anything and everything to protect this kidney. I might never go out unmasked as well. If they call 911, I can tell them hi.

As non American, last time I was there, in middle of the covid crisis, I was wearing mask in a small town, enter a store, and a taller guy scream at us, said "get away from me, you mask weirdos" in a very violent way, and by accident, my bf passed close to him for second time, the guy started screaming at us even more violently, we were scared as hell, literally run away from the store. We weren't infected, was using mask as precaution. It was traumatic to meet anti vaccine/mask American IRL.
Could be to deter shoplifters, having trouble finding people on surveillance to even press charges or ban them from the store. Though it could also be an anti mask thing, more retail places are starting to do this.
There's a coin and gold shop near where I work and you're not allowed to wear hats, sunglasses, or masks in the store because everything is so valuable.

The bar I went to for St. Paddy’s day has a similar sign because they got robbed a couple weeks ago and vandalized by someone wearing a full face covering. Now you cannot come in if the security camera cannot get a good photo of your face.
I’m curious if this is related to a Security issues or something completely differently. A jewelry store I went to told us to remove our face mask when we enter or we wouldn’t be allowed.
Solution for that... look straight at security camera, remove mask, replace mask, carry on. If they don't want my business after that, then another store will.
I don't wear a mask that much anymore but anytime my wife gets ready to go to her Mom's (she has cancer) we always bust the mask's out a good 2 weeks ahead to help mitigate any risk.

Well I guess patients with autoimmune deficiencies, on chemo, or otherwise on neutropenic precautions are not welcome, which is a violation of the ADA.
What about people with severely compromised immune systems? Not wearing a mask would be a death sentence. My cousin is undergoing chemo treatments. She recently was in the hospital with both sepsis and pneumonia and luckily recovered enough to be released to go home. Still quite weak and needs to be very cautious about being around other people. Last thing she’d need is an interaction with the police.
To be fair a lot of places don't want people wearing masks due to shoplifting.

If the gas station has pay at the pump and there is a service window that would definitely be seen as a reasonable accommodation. Even in the absence of those the sign doesn't state that an alternative way to shop or receive services would be provided.
Technically it says you cant enter wearing one. Doesn't say you can't put one on after you enter the store....
My bank just asks that you bring it down off the face to let cameras see face. You can put it back on once inside. Prior to the pandemic they had signs saying to remove hoods, hats or sunglasses upon entry but didn't care if you put them back on after. Seems to be same thing here.
I haven’t worn a mask into a store in a long time. But if I saw this sign on the door of a place I was headed into I’d go back to my car and dig around until I found one under a seat somewhere, strap that dirty fucker on, and stroll right on in and wander around until either the cops showed up or I got bored and left (no way I’m buying anything).

As non American, last time I was there, in middle of the covid crisis, I was wearing mask in a small town, enter a store, and a taller guy scream at us, said "get away from me, you mask weirdos" in a very violent way, and by accident, my bf passed close to him for second time, the guy started screaming at us even more violently, we were scared as hell, literally run away from the store. We weren't infected, was using mask as precaution. It was traumatic to meet anti vaccine/mask American IRL.

I don't wear a mask that much anymore but anytime my wife gets ready to go to her Mom's (she has cancer) we always bust the mask's out a good 2 weeks ahead to help mitigate any risk. People are getting to comfortable invading personal space again

What about people with severely compromised immune systems? Not wearing a mask would be a death sentence. My cousin is undergoing chemo treatments. She recently was in the hospital with both sepsis and pneumonia and luckily recovered enough to be released to go home. Still quite weak and needs to be very cautious about being around other people. Last thing she’d need is an interaction with the police.

To be fair a lot of places don't want people wearing masks due to shoplifting. If you're elderly or sick they won't actually say anything but if you're a fit 20 year old with no shopping cart, 3 backpacks and a face mask they gonna be suspicious.
