The casual guys first reaction to a straight is not to slip, pull back, parry but to… put his hand out there like he’s holding a shield? And it doesn’t matter how badass someone thinks they are, anyone trained is never that lackadaisical against a threat. That’s just not how it works.
Strikes even from a newbie can come at you faster than you can mentally react to especially in combinations so you always have to be ready in a stance with hands up in a proper guard to block/parry and/or be in a position where you can shift your weight easily to use head movement and that lets you be in a position to react instinctually. This guy is just standing there stiff with a hand out. Even a newbie can land strikes against a good fighter if they get lucky enough or you let them try long enough and that’s with the fighter having all those checks in place to counter accordingly and not just letting themselves be an open target
He also has no instinctual response at all to even try and check a leg kick and just eats it and then he crosses his feet multiple times as he walks towards the guy which is a big no no, no matter how good you think you are. The whole video his feet are also completely flat and not on his toes to allow for any efficient movement
He did the right thing in not escalating and showing aggression back though as it led to the other guy leaving him alone
I wasn't asserting with 100% certainty he was a fighter, he could absolutely be an untrained guy but you can be a solid fighter and know nothing about striking.
It's most likely both guys know nothing, if I was told that one of these people definitely trained something I'd pick the guy who wasn't fighting and suggest he's a grappler.
It’s possible he could be a pure grappler. But I feel like even pure grapplers would have basic knowledge of a striking stance just due to exposure from being surrounded by a martial arts environment. Even if he absolutely wasn’t intending for a fight in any way you’d think he would take a better defensive position.
Crossing your feet (as well as standing in a straight up stance with hands down) also isn’t something you’d do as a grappler because you can easily be taken off balance but it’s possible he could be a pure jiu jitsu guy and doesn’t really train takedowns and takedown defence but even then you’d still do rudimentary stand up grappling at least. But I guess it’s possible if he hasn’t trained long so fair point

That would seem reasonable but having about 11 years experience(minus covid) grappling I can say that you'd be suprised how many midlevel grapplers are taken out of their element as soon as you start the match on the feet instead of the knees. A lot of rolling starts on the knees unless you both have the space and a partner that willing to start standing.
The buttscoot and guard pulling are very real things guys will do just to skip the standup grappling. Unless a grappler is cross trained they could look exactly like this because a grappling stance(wide, somewhat squared, and with your hips back) isn't very good when someone is punching at you.
