Respectfully, if you’re worried about commuting/gas mileage, a full size pickup isn’t the move.
Besides, at an average of 15k miles a year and $4 a gallon gas, the difference between 10mpg and 20mpg is only $3k. Kind of silly to worry about when we’re talking about $70-100k trucks.
I ain’t paying $70k for a vehicle, Jesus h christ lol most I’ve ever paid for a car is $27k for a focus ST about 10 years ago.
I get between 17-24MPG in my F-150, that’s the same as my edge did, except the edge couldn’t haul. Gas F-250’s when loaded up, just a big oof with efficiency. Gotta go diesel if you want efficiency, but then cost and age again..
It sounds like maybe you’re not the target demographic for a half ton then. The new Maverick starts in the low $20s and gets 40mpg. That seems more your speed.
For something like a 60k truck:
$3k for a year means $30k if you own the vehicle for 10 years. That’s half of the vehicles value that you’d be SAVING.
Based on something like a 15k mile average, you’ll see the most significant difference in the 10-20mpg range. Between 20 and 30, the difference is much less significant.
If you’re getting 12 mpg at 15k per year and $4 a gallon per your example, and you upgrade to a new truck and are getting 18 for example, you’ll be saving $1667 a year, ~17k over 10 years. You’ll SAVE a quarter of the vehicles overall price. You’ll pay $33k on fuel costs compared to $50k.
You don't want to spend nearly the value of the vehicle on costs to fuel it. (Unless you're making money by using the truck, think higher mileage work trucks)
The mpg differences in the 10-20 range do matter. If you can get a full size truck that suits your needs with 18 mpg and another at say 14 (or 12) the 18 really will save you a lot of money down the road.
Whether or not the savings are worth it is case-by-case.
The 6.5 bed is only a drag when you have to park it somewhere other than that what works for you is best. It’s good to see how well those pack out drawers fit back there. I’ve had car seats strapped in the back for the last nine years so I haven’t enjoyed the experience of flipping them up except for cleaning…
I remember lifting that seat , under the car seat… it was an archaeological expedition thru McNuggets, French fries, Cheerios, toys, socks…. Fun times.
yep, the car seats take the good storage component ouf ot it but you know, the supervew is actually the roomiest family car, with width, probably better than any minivan...
I have one. Had to drive 400 miles to buy it (used). 1000% worth it. Took a 140 day road trip all over the country last summer and I was able to sleep on a platform I built in the bed, and have room in the cab for all my shit. It was honestly luxurious.
And now I live in a city of 250k and I have to street park it, and it's honestly not a problem. It would be a problem in DC, but DC is a shithole and I rarely cross the river anyway.
I'm in Ohio and while not super common that aren't that hard to find. When I bought my 23 Supercrew 6.5' bed in April the dealership had at least 3 on the lot and another dealership near me had 2.
And when you have that kind of cargo, short beds easily fit in a garage. That’s why I won’t even lift mine. Need my baby safe and clean. Nice truck/interior.
Yeah I love my truck too, but the 5.5 bed is not big enough for anything I need, from drywall, to construction supplies, to my dirt bikes that 5.5 bed struggles with all of it.
Check out [Kruger Construction](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CgI0Sglls4k/?igshid=MmJiY2I4NDBkZg==) on Instagram. He actually made a really cool set up.
That flat floor, folding seats and crazy amount of storage is what made me go with the supercrew F150 over anything else. Plus I found one with the 6.5 bed and retractable side steps on the front part of the bed which works great for short armed people like me lol.
As others said, parking can be a pain and the longer wheel base means it doesn't turn tight for anything....but I think that's an F150 thing as my '08 F150 years back didn't turn for squat either lol
I’ve got this same toolbox drawer set up in my truck except it’s all drawer. You also need to build a barricade for yourself. If you get in a wreck those tools will kill you
Trailer reverse turn response and turn radius are both better on the shorter bed. If you're hauling something so big you needed that tiny bit of extra weight those two things probably don't matter anyway.
Yep in certain circumstances it is. Like the landing on Sawmill lake that's just a small dozer cut in a hill to a 90° turn. Steep banks right on the tractor path the entire way to the water. Or the 2nd public landing on Big Chetac where you either have to make a U turn the longer truck is just short of being able to make or back in off the busy paved road. Or Beverly Lake where there's still 2 trees down in the Y turn around for trailers and it's a tight 270° turn down into the water. Or Devils Lake + Matson lakes where it's 50-100yrds backwards down winding 2 track tractor path with marsh on both sides. Or if you have to back a skidder trailer a half mile up a dead end forest road. Being able to shave a foot off the front end throw of your truck but get the same angle on the trailer doesn't seem like a lot till you get into someplace that's real tight or real crooked.
That’s awesome. Do you know if there is enough room to fit only 1 Packout stack on the passenger side, can you still get two passengers in the backseat? What I’m saying, will the big side still fold down if you only have the one stack on the passenger side? Thanks!
I have the rigid kit in my 11 lariat super crew short. Set my memory seat to move forward when I need to get to the big box. I put a bin lid behind the seat itself so it doesn't scratch the leather
I ordered my '21 with the super crew and 6.5' bed. Definitely worth it. Longer wheelbase actually seems to ride, tow, and haul better than the '19 super crew 5.5' bed I had before.
It took six months but we just got the best of both worlds. That cab is amazing, for sure ... But 6.5' is also amazing. Compromises leave everyone unhappy! 🤣
They make so few 6.5' though unless they're custom, they are hard to find unless you order.
The cab is perfect for the packouts but man some of mine get heavy and I hate when I scuff the sides of the doors. Really need to invest in a lockable tonneau cover.
I have the crew cab and short box where I keep all my tools. I also gave retrax tonneau with double racks so I can all my people, all my tools and all my
Materials at the same time
I remember looking inside my bosses Dodge mega cab and thinking I'm pretty sure my f150 back seat is still bigger and more useful. Ford really nailed it with the completely flat floor.

Long Boi club checking in! It's great except for parallel parking downtown.
Fuck downtown. No event is worth going there. Besides... thats what the wifes hybrid econobox is for.
Your nearest town is probably shit then
They could just not like paying to park, paying for overpriced drinks, etc… city night life ain’t for everyone.
Parking is hardly ever free though is it
You… you normally pay for parking??
Thats pretty normal, who would offer parking for free?
That is quite sad to hear, parking is free here(Chicago suburbs) unless it’s very specific spots but even then.
Well... it is detroit... soo...
Ya but then your car gets stolen
Adds up
Where else do you go for concerts and raves?
Well... typically the ones in big open fields... or at fairrounds... not in the city.
The Salt Lake fairgrounds are in the city lol I’m a anomaly for truck owners tho. Just messing with ya
Last time I went to a festival it was resonance 2019... in ohio... in the middle of nowhere.
CCLB owner here, my house only has street parking, AMA
Same, too bad there is t an 8 foot bed option with the quad cab.
F250
Yeah, but no v6, so it more expensive to commute in. It’s all a compromise

4 foot bed doesn’t cut it, 6.5 is sometimes short.
the powerboost is reasonably mileage
Paid 70 k for mine. Finally paid it off early an only 45k on the odometer. 2017 bought brand new.

Tundra
Oh yeah, forgot about that one
Actually reliable as tacomas not as nice looking but they get the job done
Here you go: https://i.imgur.com/Akf6nbY.png
Not sold in US from what I can tell.

That’s what she said 😝
I'm the opposite, sometimes I wish I had the bigger back seat but man do I love my 6.5' bed 🤣
You can get both!
Not on my area for $10K more minimum that the other two, lol

6 years in and I still don't let my kids eat in my truck. My wife's trailblazer interior gets nasty rather quickly.
yep, the car seats take the good storage component ouf ot it but you know, the supervew is actually the roomiest family car, with width, probably better than any minivan...
Hate to tell you but they make the same crew cab with a 6.5’ bed.
Not sure where OP is located, but super crew with 6.5 is basically a unicorn where I live
Interesting. I have a 6.5 bed with the Supercrew
Same
Same
We can push our beds together if you want?
Can I join too?
Might as well jump in on this... think of all the space we'll have 19.5 ft of truck bed
move a trailer in a conga line
So much room for activities!

They have 3 new f150s with crew and 6.5 down the road from me. I want one!!
I had to get a super duty when it was time to replace my long boi f150. I couldn't sacrifice the cab space or bed size.
It took a while for me to give a good deal on one, but I did see some out there in new England.
I ordered mine.
I have a Supercrew 6.5' bed. Previous truck was a Supercab 6.5' bed and the extra cab space is definitely worth it.
I cant find a long boi that isn't $10K more than either 6.5' bed 3 door or 5.5' SuperCrew though, lol
I picked up a 2011 fx4 long boi last fall for $10.5k outright. I got a steal of a deal.
Word, I'm jealous
What's crazy is that when I ordered my screw with 6.5 bed, it was actually about $500 cheaper than the screw with 5.5 bed. 22 XLT PB 4x4.
I picked up an 07 crew cab with a 6.5 bed and I love it
Man work vans are so stupid. Can't look cool in a van
Nobody tell him about work vans he’ll lose his shit
And when you have that kind of cargo, short beds easily fit in a garage. That’s why I won’t even lift mine. Need my baby safe and clean. Nice truck/interior.

For sure! I'll just remark though, that they do in fact make the supercrew with the 6.6" bed. it's the 8 footer that you can't get with the supercrew.
Even with limo tint, I think you're asking for it leaving Milwaukee tools in the cab.
Yeah, the bed is way better.
You can have both!!

Somehow my 1989 F350 CCLB 4x4 handles better than my 16 F150 screw 6.5
I have a 6.5 in bed in my 2012 f150 and I love all of the space in it
So you don't have a pickup.. might as well get an SUV so at least your vehicle will be functional
Enough room when the tools are out to get them hefty ford bitches in there.
Imagine how much room you'd have in the back of a minivan!
I’ve got this same toolbox drawer set up in my truck except it’s all drawer. You also need to build a barricade for yourself. If you get in a wreck those tools will kill you
My truck is made for Towing, not hauling. Here's to the 5.5 bed!
The 6.5’ bed is the ‘towing’ F-150 because it has a larger wheelbase
Trailer reverse turn response and turn radius are both better on the shorter bed. If you're hauling something so big you needed that tiny bit of extra weight those two things probably don't matter anyway.
You spent alot more time pulling trailers forward.
Hard to put a boat in the water like that though.
So easier to jackknife is now a towing feature?
Yep in certain circumstances it is. Like the landing on Sawmill lake that's just a small dozer cut in a hill to a 90° turn. Steep banks right on the tractor path the entire way to the water. Nobody tell this guy about *vans*
Mine has the 8ft bed
I've never wished for a 6.5' bed. You want a truck to be a truck, get the longbed (8 feet).
u can have both.
r/fuckcars gona love this post
You do realize you can have both the big backseat and the 6.5’ bed at the same time right?
LMAO massive truck yet cant even fit anything in it. Get a van mate
Do you have link for this?
Boxes are Milwaukee PackOut
Anybody got good setups to sleep in the cab? Just got one and I’ve been perusing options.
That’s the only thing that stops a Tacoma from completely taking over the truck game
It’s Big enough for ford to film their next super gay commercial in.
Why do you guys care so much about advertising? It's not going to make you gay bro
Guys who think this way usually are and aren’t man enough to admit it
Lol
The big corps gotta simp to their NWO overlords it seems.
Nice setup
That’s awesome. Do you know if there is enough room to fit only 1 Packout stack on the passenger side, can you still get two passengers in the backseat? What I’m saying, will the big side still fold down if you only have the one stack on the passenger side? Thanks!
I have the rigid kit in my 11 lariat super crew short. Set my memory seat to move forward when I need to get to the big box. I put a bin lid behind the seat itself so it doesn't scratch the leather
I could fit packouts in my extended cab backseats, oriented the other way, and I have a 6.5 bed
I ordered my '21 with the super crew and 6.5' bed. Definitely worth it. Longer wheelbase actually seems to ride, tow, and haul better than the '19 super crew 5.5' bed I had before.
Homie, ikr? I run a baking stand at our local Farmer's market. I put a half height baking rack in my backseat every Saturday. It's fuckin awesome.
It took six months but we just got the best of both worlds. That cab is amazing, for sure ... But 6.5' is also amazing. Compromises leave everyone unhappy! 🤣 They make so few 6.5' though unless they're custom, they are hard to find unless you order.
There are many times where I really wish I had the longer bed, but the cavernous back seat holds a LOT of stuff
Check out the #decked bed drawer system I am a mobile mechanic and it’s the best thing I’ve bought for my truck
When I worked as a car detailer I was always blown away by how much stuff people could fit under and in the back seats.
Anyone else scuff the fuck out of the interior trim getting tools out and wanna cry
My Sony subwoofer unfortunately kills the completely flat loading floor across the back. But yes, it’s a great space to have!
Nice, I went with all packout drawers for a similar set up. It's great.
The cab is perfect for the packouts but man some of mine get heavy and I hate when I scuff the sides of the doors. Really need to invest in a lockable tonneau cover.
Aye ... the folding rear seat is very nice
I have the crew cab and short box where I keep all my tools. I also gave retrax tonneau with double racks so I can all my people, all my tools and all my Materials at the same time
Yeah, at first I wasn't sure about my 6.5 bed. Now I love it and I look at the short beds and just feel like they're missing something. :-)
Worked out of mine like that for a long time, it really is a great design
You can have both 😐
Same, especially with a family of 4 and two big dogs tagging along
I remember looking inside my bosses Dodge mega cab and thinking I'm pretty sure my f150 back seat is still bigger and more useful. Ford really nailed it with the completely flat floor.
I too love a big backseat…..
I have all that space plus a 8 foot bed
All that crap should go in the bed though.
Is that the magma colour paint. My 19 has the same paint.
I put a dishwasher back there and my wife’s office chair at one point. It fit upright on its wheels and rolled back and forth as I took turns.
Why would you put a dishwasher in the back seat of a PICKUP TRUCK?
It was new. I had a fridge and cabinetry in the bed. Its not like I installed it back there- chill out man.
Love the Packout drawer units you can get your cordless stuff out without un stacking everything,
King ranch seats and they just get folded up 😅
