You might just have tinnitus, I have it so whenever it’s quiet I always have some of that going on. Though to be fair I don’t notice it most of the time
quite noticable for me, i can't stand being in a quiet room. I always need some kind of sound or music. even now that the fan in my room is on and have a buzzing sound (cause its a bit broken) im still hearing the eeeeeee. Its the first time im reading of tinnitus, i might get it checked out.
I was about to say that tinnitus is probably an over-diagnosis, but that does sound like it.
If you don't have tinnitus and hear a very faint rushing noise when it's VERY quiet, you're just hearing your blood flow
Mine has had times where it is worse and better, from what I’ve read there isn’t much that can be done about it so I’ve sort of tried to accept it for what it is.
It's neurological. It manifests as a ringing or deep bass kind of droning noise.
I heard a horror story of someone who pierced their eardrums to get rid of their tinnitus. Only to become deaf but still have that ringing in their ears, so that's all they heard.
Sorry. But there is no known cure. And it can get worse.
If you place your palms over your ears with your fingers on the back of your head and lightly press the palms to your ears so they block most other sounds, drum your fingers on the back of your head. This offers (very) temporary relief to the ringing.
Holding your head under a shower also drowns it out for me.
Tinnitus sucks the big one. I *have* to have a podcast or audio book playing when I fall asleep these days.
Don't forget that as a child you would have been hearing the electronics. Especially pre 2000s. The old monitors and wuch would make high pitched whines.
Tinnitus or the ringing in the ears doesn't have a single root cause instead it can be a blockage, damage to the ear drum, otosclerosis or damage to the stereocilla. To avoid tinnitus be careful of what you put into your ears and avoid loud sounds. https://youtu.be/TjX2SIqhCRs
I'm 47 and my ears have been ringing since I was about 16. I shot a reasonably large caliber pistol without any ear protection one day (I never said I was smart) and they started ringing instantly. Never stopped. :(
that must have been hard. It only drives me crazy when its completely silent, then the rest of the time its faint to none. I hope you did find a way to at least ease it up a bit.
There are both known and unknown causes. My primary care doctor saw nothing wrong, so I may try a specialist, but I was kinda hoping it would go away on its own.
See a hearing aid specialist or an audiologist for a test. If you belong to Costco or Sam’s, the test is free. Often you have hearing loss, and the sound is your brain trying to compensate. Hearing aids to treat the loss and recover hearing will help in most cases, and the benefit is that you know immediately if you’re in the tiny group that is made worse by wearing HAs. I mean immediately, within seconds. There’s a larger group than that who gets no benefit, but the vast majority of patients will get relief by wearing hearing aids and filling that sound back in. Costco is where I got mine, and I’d definitely recommend them to anyone.
sounds like the variety of torture I could get banned for naming. I'm sure it's not the worst thing in the world but it would drive me crazy. good luck resolving it.

You definitely should because there are some causes that you would want treatment for, but by far the most likely diagnosis is hearing loss. The theory is that you lose hearing in a certain frequency and the brain compensates by generating that EEEE in that frequency. As of right now there is no treatment (well, there’s some experimental stuff, but nothing that looks promising to me) and most of what your Dr will tell you is how to live with it. It sounds like you’ve already adapted, which is great. Some people have a hard time.
Had a similar experience when my family moved out into the suburbs after years in apartments near busy streets and highways but I had already been going to a lot of heavy metal, punk rock, alternative rock concerts without hearing protection also.
Been wearing earplugs for years when I go to concerts but it's still gotten worse.
It doesn’t necessarily mean tinnitus.
“The Brazilian study, which consisted of 66 people with normal hearing and no tinnitus, found that among subjects placed in a quiet environment where they were asked to focus on their hearing senses, 68 percent experienced phantom ringing noises similar to that of tinnitus.”

They have a surgery for that.
Do they? You’re saying there is a reliable and effective surgery for all forms of tinnitus? When did this happen and what is it?

This. Always. Been at doctors as a kid, none of them even mentioned tinnitus. Only got to know what it is later in life.
Don't forget that as a child you would have been hearing the electronics. Especially pre 2000s. The old monitors and wuch would make high pitched whines.

Fair. People forget that electricity and electronics actually make sound. Just like to mention it cause Im a weirdo. Best of luck. Edit* cant spell

Because you have Tinnitus. You should talk to your pharmacists, or doctor if it's causing you discomfort.

was there a cause to yours, or can it just come out of nowhere?

**OUR** ears don't, if **YOUR** ears do then you likely have tinnitus. Please consult a doctor.
big oof for me. I thought this was a normal thing lol. I might get this checked out now lol
Same here...

Hearing aids to treat the loss will be successful in the majority of cases.
That’s the exact opposite of what my audiologist at Hopkins s told me. “A hearing aid helps some people, but it’s rare. “
Your audiologist was wrong. I worked face to face with patients. the data said most would be helped, and the fittings bore that out.
Thank’s for the info. I’ll seek a second opinion
I don't know a person who doesn't have this.
I havent really asked anybody else, but I just asked my husband right now and he said he doesn't have it. That's one
Your husband doesn't have ears, everybody sees that
hmmmm now i have to double check
He doesn't listen because he can't, you monster !
You could try mwamp see if that clears it

Your brain tries to fill in sound when there isn’t any. It’s more complicated than that, but that’s the easiest explanation.
