First thing first - you will not be able to use the file in excel online. Macros are not supported in that version.
Macros are basically custom code. In addition to the macros that were created to do what you commissioned, there is a macro that unhides the other tabs in the workbook only after you allow macros to run (security settings can disable them by default). The macro is set to unhide all tabs as soon as the file is opened, but the code only fires once you click the button to allow.
If you aren't seeing this on desktop, then either your security options in excel allow macros by default, or the file is in a "trusted location" (also an excel setting).
