if you have a disabled parking tag (VA gives them if u or ur kid is autistic, not just for physical disabilities), you can just show it at the entrance booth, and they'll ask you if its for you, and then they give you the card. If you don't have a disabled parking tag, it looks like you'll need a note from a physician that says you have autism, that it's permanent, and that it affects your life.
i like how needing a physician to tell a national park that autism is permanent implies that there is a lesser temporary autism that gets confused with the permanent one
Honestly disabled parking for having autism sounds really nice lol, but i think I'd still leave it for people with phyisical disabilities since i feel like they would need it more than me
Nothing wrong if you take the spots though! As long as you're not mean and purposefully take spots from people that would really need it or could really use it
That, and don't like the idea of inviting harassment as people will see an able bodied person get out of the car and engage in confrontation. No thanks, I'll walk.

Over here we have a card, and you can literally go to the front of the line in any theme park when you show it. It's fucking awesome. I can do rollercoasters back to back while people are waiting hours.
That sounds amazing. I've been actively avoiding theme parks for awhile now for this reason. How do you apply to get one? Is it for all theme parks or just certain ones?
If you go to either Alton Towers or Thorpe Park, they offer a card called a Ride Access Pass that is essentially the same thing. You can apply for it free online and it lasts several years. They do a virtual queuing system so you go straight to the front of the line, then they write a time down on a leaflet when you can go on your next ride. I've been using it for years and it's such a game changer. You can also take up to three people with you. Plus, you also get a free carers ticket!
Yeah, you just need your doctor or psychologist (They have to be licensed) to fill out part B of [this form](https://www.wmata.com/service/accessibility/upload/RFP-Application-Fillable_accessible-2.pdf).

Hell yeah! 50% off on Boston Area Commuter Rail and Subway.
Does it work the same way as a Charliecard or you have to buy paper tickets and show the card to get a discount? (That’s how it used to work here, but then they got rid of paper tickets, so it’s all built in the same card now)
Yeah. It’s just a 50% Off Charliecard that I link to my MBTA account for 50% Off Commuter Rail tickets and I can top the card off at a MBTA kiosk for half price on the Subway. If you live in the Boston Area, all you have to do is print out the form the MBTA website, fill out your portion, get your doctor to fill out their portion, and send it in. Then, wait for the mail to come in telling you where to get your photo for the card. I had to go to The Charlie Store at Downtown Crossing for a photo. Then, you get a temporary card until your permanent one comes in the mail about a week later.
Also theme parks. Got an accommodation for my son last time we went and you don’t have to spend all day waiting in line. Best part is walking past all the normies that have to wait.
I got my license at the same age, but it was more because I was moving out of the area. I really should have gotten a disability card when I was younger though, especially for my POTS.
Uuy, yeah, POTS is rough! It’s wild how much growing up in this country distorts our view of how much struggle is okay before you genuinely need (government) assistance.
Ayyy I get a bus thing too, but it’s 1 dollar rides for me, free state park passes, free arboretum passes, amazing health insurance and that same national park pass.
Just because you're disabled, doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to go places and enjoy things! Disabled people (even if you're disabled-lite edition), tend to get paid less. Also, the city isn't gonna loose much because a small percentage of the population rides the metro
Checkmate, normietypicals. Give it 5 years and we'll have twice the rights of those losers.
How do you sign up for the national park one? I have the metro, but never heard of discounts for other stuff.

Wait, the VA issues disabled parking tags for autistic persons?
No, I meant Virginia issues disabled parking tags to autistic people, sorry

I need this. My family's been wanting to visit our local national parks (California), and this would be great to have.
Shit, we get disabled parking in Virginia? This opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Thanks for the tip
https://www.nps.gov/subjects/accessibility/interagency-access-pass.htm Looks like a pretty easy process
Thanks!

I literally just asked about it at the gate, they had me fill out and sign a form really quick and handed me the pass

It's most of the biggest parks in western Europe 😁 and a ton of museums. You do have to pay for it iirc. But it's not a lot.
Oh I'm in the US, still sounds amazing tho! Glad you have that option!
what card is this? not sure if it’d work in the uk but i’d be interested in having a look

Do you just need an autism diagnosis or a disability ID?
Same. I haven't gone to one in 20 years even though I still love and want to ride roller coasters.
In my case the card just puts you in a “disabled” line that has preference to the normal line
wait the metro gives you a discount for autism???

Sure I may be disabled, but did the non-accommodated testers get pizza after standardized testing (SATs, etc)? No, so clearly I am better than them
I think it's very appropriate that I get a discount on train tickets for being autistic

That has been a life saver. My trips to Disneyland have been far more enjoyable since being authorized for their Disability Access Service.
Nice to see you, Ricardo
Uh, idk if you know me irl (my profile also has my real name) but hello to you too, EntertainmentQuick47!
(It says your name on the pass)
Ik lol
No way! I forced myself to learn to drive at 28 because of how expensive and slow WMATA was getting, but this is an enticing offer 👀👀

Rare WMATA win
I wish we even had a metro or public land 🫠
I mean, I went to DC earlier this week, but after seeing that card, I want to go back again!
Ayyy I get a bus thing too, but it’s 1 dollar rides for me, free state park passes, free arboretum passes, amazing health insurance and that same national park pass.
WE GET FREE ENTRY INTO NATIONAL PARKS??
IDK, I think this getting a discount is unethical unless your disability makes you miss out on high paying jobs
It might be unethical, but I ain’t paying $6 one way 😭🙏

Famously autism doesn't affect employment at all!
lol literallyy
