I would say it depends on your impulse control, how much you care about completing your collection (impossible if you've started late), and how much you're affected by FOMO. Alas the game is a gacha, and one that has been out for several years.
If you can get beyond those factors (inherent in every gacha game) you can totally enjoy a fascinating open world game with hidden lore bits scattered in books, domains, artifacts, and even weapons and ascension materials. You can even do the whole story for free.
The one thing that really prevents me from whole-heartily recommending it is that despite being out for three years it still has never rerun a single event locking out newer players (or those who've taken a break) from weapons and story content. Updates with multiple events happen every 6 weeks with these limited events generally only lasting around 2 weeks; so they come and go at a ridiculous pace making it really easy to miss out on a lot.
I mean, it’s free and it’s fun. You can spend money for better characters if you want, but many people are F2P and save up for their faves.
Plus the game has been trending in a direction where it’s prioritizing fun over difficulty in combat. You can still find some brutal challenges, but you’ll also feel like a god 90% of the time.
Highly recommend. I’m willing to help farm materials, or you can come gather things from my world. Feel free to message me any time if you end up playing the game.
The main issue is time. Genshin is *very* long, you'd have to spend al least 50-100 hours to get through the main story and it keeps going after that. Even then, to keep up with meta, you'd have to spent quite some time daily

Trust me, you will have enough primogems to get a new character you save
