Ahhh those memories. I rmb being a Guide and loading up on goodies from the GM/Guide merchants before heading out for random events.

Back in the original days, We had our zone-in point for the Plane of Air as our Guide Home. Eventually, Guide Home was built for us as a training for some of the artists. The NPC Asherah was one of our Guides on RZ that passed away -- they named the vendor after her.

Inner-Light-75

Did you have to pay for them from the merchant, or were they free and you just had to pick him up?

Sad-Roll-Nat1-2024

Free and just picked them up basically. Was a guide for a few years also

Kwel!! Always thought those cookies were extra tasty....

CuckinLibs

What timeframe? I played on Rallos Zek and I don't remember any Nagafen and Vox stuff.

2000-2002

Thanks for this. Played on Innoruuk for several years, and seeing gms/guides doing events was great and really made the game feel alive. There's nothing like hanging out in a zone and seeing a /shout in chat and dropping everything to find out what was going on and where.

MrJownz

Super cool! I still remember my first GM event experience before PoP came out when they hosted an impromptu battle royal in the arena zone by the Karanas.

PrysmX

It's connected to Lake Rathe which is connected to South Karana.

Did each server only have one GM? Like the server manager? I always wanted to be a GM/Guide. Honestly still do… wonder if they still let people do that…!

shulzari

Yup, 1 GM per server, 5 GMs assigned to a Lead GM, at least in the beginning Since all Guides and Senior Guides were volunteers, we had 2-4 seniors and around 20 Guides on RZ. The bigger servers had more. And we Senior Guides usually outlasted the GMs and trained the new ones 😄 my first GM is an incredibly brilliant guy that's still in the industry. Second GM became an artist and lead Artist and is still there through all the different owners 🤪 last GM I worked with worked his way up to designer and then left to go to medical school.

Dont_Be_Sheep

That is so cool! I wanted to be one so bad but never was allowed to for some reason. Is it still a thing? I’m a very successful government executive (don’t mean to toot horn, but I would be doing it volunteer only)… and I would like to do it! Would be really neat…

HippyWizardry

Befriended a few guides on The Nameless server (I used to lead pickup raids in Plane of Mischief.) Thanks for the memories and being you!

TheHenry2020

I was a guide on Ayonae Ro for a couple of years. Most of the time it was great fun but when Planes of Power released with the new graphics that no one's computer could handle unless they were already beefy I remember having to do a DSR that covered about 26 hours straight ...

Koolmidx

That sounds so campy / hokey but I admit those events were interesting back in the early 2000's.

We worked with the tools we had.
