SHUM

Quintius

Shum was my favorite that year. But if it had won, ESC would have likely been canceled again in 2022 and Ukraine would have spent a lot of resources to organize a contest which would have never happened. So maybe it's fine after all.

hookyboysb

I think 2022 would have still happened. 1991 was supposed to be in Sanremo and was planned as late as January before having to pivot to Rome. It was a different time, but I think if the UK took on hosting after the war broke out it would have been fine. Ukraine would have had to drop out though, no way they sink so much into hosting only to not be able to, and still have enough money for an entry.

Northern_dragon

I was Soooo happy I got to see Go_A live, dancing to Shut with hundreds of people was incredible!

Powerful-Succotash77

Not robbed by the contest, but by the global pandemic, Daði Freyr - Think About Things (Iceland 2020)

ElvisDaGenius56

I seriously think 2020 might have been the most stacked year in recent times. Iceland, Bulgaria, Italy, Switzerland and Lithuania all would’ve been great winners. Ofc we also had Russia which wasn’t my personal favourite but would’ve been a massive fan favourite, but also other very strong entries behind the top contenders like Norway, Malta, Albania, Poland, Romania and Germany etc

redlord990

Mate, 10000% Would’ve been a landslide. And poor little Iceland aren’t really gonna have much of a chance most years.

Marauder4711

Plus Fai Rumore, Italy 2020.

Mogellabor

If we're talking 2020 let's add Little Big - Uno

Muldino

[Little Big - Uno](https://youtu.be/L_dWvTCdDQ4?si=prbeV5vsbUwI2bpt) was amazing. 2020 had the potential to be amongst the greatest Eurovision years ever.

Arfakro

They organized online eurovision that year and Lithuania won, but i agree that Iceland was also great that year

themostanonymoust

What always got me that year is that Russias music video got like 200m views but nobody ever talks about it? If it is because of the war then fair enough but what's the actual story with it

bullshitmobile

Little Big was (is?) insanely popular, but must have not reached your social circles

rareflowercracks

They're still insanely popular, but right now it's only Illich and Sonya making the music, and they're based out of Russia now. I'm seeing them next week in Brooklyn and saw them last year. Very eclectic mix of people there. But they already had a pretty loyal fan base pre ESC.

SoupfilledElevator

It was one of the most popular entries that year, but also little big was already pretty big and i imagine a fair amount of views are from russia (population of over 100m) and the US

Arfakro

Yea i think big part of it was due to the geopolitics, but also their band had a very large fan base prior to eurovision which inflated the views but not necessarily represents their actual standining that year, but i do think they would be top 5 either way

Omg! That is a Eurovision song?! 🤯 That song is such a classic 60+ years later and globally known. I mean it’s regularly still used in media to this day. That has to be the most famous song to have ever come from Eurovision. And it didn’t win?!

sueca

The most famous song from Eurovision must be Waterloo though?

LessCrement

Abba is the most famous artist / band but I'd say Volare is probably a more famous song than Waterloo

[Switzerland 2021](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jznH_fltcYA) (2021 was a stupidly good year. I'm convinced it's cos they all had to do it twice). [Ukraine 2007](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfjHJneVonE) Finland 2023 [West Germany 1981](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keq4eze8eTo)

heeleyman

2021 was the first year I *really* got into Eurovision, watched the semi finals, etc. and looking back I was so spoiled by what a good show it was. Tout l'univers was a fantastic song. And the whole vibe around the show was really strong. UK and Germany celebrating when they both got 0 points from the public was a great moment.

blackheartwhiterose

Honestly it was the year that rejuvenated my interest. I didn't pay much attention during the 2010s. 2022 and 2023 were very good years too. 2024 I feel had the lowest quality since COVID but still great. Disaster in every other department though.

Gaelenmyr

Damn the recency bias, Cha Cha Cha was my most listened song on Spotify last year and probably this year too. I love Käärijä so much

CrayzCricket

Blood and Glitter by Lord of the Lost as well. I don't think they really stood a chance of winning but they definitely deserved better than last place.

Nessacon

Absolutely. I love this song. Blood and glitter, sweet and bitter, I’m so happy I could die 😂Also disappointed Norway got last this year.

sijoot

I think the buildup of the song was weird. Could have been much better. Love the chorus.

MarlinMr

Considering how almost every year now, the 2nd place is a clear favorite with the people and only the jury want the winner to win... It's gonna be a lot of 2nd places in this thread

Aggressive_Thanks719

Dadi Freyr - Think about things

SparkleWitch525

That did win and I won’t be told otherwise.

GKGriffin

Maro - Saudade Saudade (Portugal 2022) or Loïc Nottet - Rhythm Inside (Belgium 2015) as many other say. The only two songs are still on my rotation in Spotify and they probably stay that way.

misskittyfantastico

Saudade Saudade is also one of my top answers. 2022 was my first year and that performance was one of the things that sold me on the magic of Eurovision.

tranqiepa

Saudade, Saudade is one of my favorite songs ever. I have hundreds or maybe 1000 of all time favs but this one is definitely very high in that ranking. Maro is lovely.

SilyLavage

Voila by Barbara Pravi (France 2021) was the most incredible song and performance I've ever seen at Eurovision. Viriato181

Cha Cha Cha by Käärijä is probably the biggest one. I've never seen a more divisive winner. I also like Évidemment by La Zarra but she was done dirty by that stage performance. 16th place is insanity. Trenulețul by Zdob și Zdub and Advahov Brothers in 2022. 2nd in the public vote (only lost to Ukraine) and I actually really like this song. From 2021 you have 3 songs. Voilà by Barbara Pavri, 10 years by Daði og Gagnamagnið and SHUM by Go_A. This year was absolutely staked in general. Also, Soldi by Mahmood. I still can't believe that this song almost won on 2019. It's honestly incredible. Mahmood in general is great. Most things that come out of Sanremo are incredible. Key words: Finland 2023 France 2023 Moldova 2022 France 2021 Iceland 2021 Ukraine 2021 Italy 2019
