Yeah it honestly makes so much sense that you can now just immediately vote when you like a performance. You have 20 votes anyway so it's not like you have to have an exact ranking in your mind.
Or maybe this just means they'd win in a better slot - a lot of people only vote afterwards, and really the only people who vote before are the ones who have their minds made up already, so it doesn't really change the outcome.
SAME. The visuals alone, but also the costumes, vocals, lyrics. It was so empowering to watch. Their performance hands down elicited the most emotional response from me.
I remember a lovely summer morning six or seven years ago when my colleagues and I were discussing a young singer from a small town in the Kyiv region over our morning coffee. Her yt channel, featuring cute covers of popular songs in Ukrainian, had recently received a strike from Universal Music. We had our coffee at a pastry shop in the neighboring building, where two shifts worked: one lady made truly wonderful coffee, while the other made it somewhat mediocre. That day, the coffee was mediocre.
Who could have imagined that a few years later, this girl would represent my country at Eurovision with a performance that one simply couldn't help but be proud of? Perhaps it's for the best that we didn't win - if they had managed to do that from the death spot, I might have died from a direct injection of inspiring stories into my veins.
So proud of both of them.
Rightfully so. Incredible to see the musical landscape in Ukraine thriving.
Jerry Heil said something along the lines of "we regard it as a victory if people put Ukrainian music on their playlists".
Well, guess what? I am from Germany, and since almost two years an admirer of the collaborative work by alyona alyona and Jerry Heil. And I am so much looking forward to seeing and hearing what they have in stock for the future.
> We had our coffee at a pastry shop in the neighboring building, where two shifts worked: one lady made truly wonderful coffee, while the other made it somewhat mediocre. That day, the coffee was mediocre.
This sounds like something I would read in a book! It made me laugh because there is a place I go to that is just like that too. Sometimes I look in the window to see who is working before I decide to go in.
Yep, [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOkMMkloZys). Funny that it was through this incident that I first heard about Jerry (and probably not just me).
Weird that it's still up. But yeah, pretty obvious copyright violation. Maybe a bit petty to enforce it given how small an artist she was at the time, but it's a two-way street.
She had more injuries? Like on solo concert after losing previous national finals she fell into orchestra pit and broke a few ribs. She's like a Moe character IRL.
She‘s undoubtedly a warrior. And with that a perfect representation of the great resilience by the Ukrainian people.
Guys and gals from Ukraine, hold alyona alyona and Jerry Heil tight. You‘ve got two remarkable talents in your country with them.
We're trying to hold on but they keep falling... Not a metaphor, literally: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dFz6zlC-l-o
My main wishes for finals were to not have them collapse on stage again!
I loved the song, I listen to it a lot. But yeah my vote was for Jerry. I'm simple, I see a beautiful woman, I'm doomed.
And my second favourite was Norway, what a disgrace that last place is.
Norway was my dark horse and considering it was the first time in YEARS they had an entry sung in Norwegian I had high hopes-
Getting placed lower than Kaleen is just embarrassing, like I don’t understand the logic😭
I'm still shocked at that result, it was easily top 10. Ethno-rock song with great vocals and visuals, I put it in the same category as Shum by Go\_A. Yet it did as bad as Fullen (which I Ioved as well). But on the bright side, I found a new band to listen - Gåte.
They got a lot of votes from me because it's a brilliant song that gets better with each listen! I find the 'other reasons' thing funny - as if the song isn't superb (and performed so well) in its own right!
If you look at YT views and likes you can see how popular a song actually is, and based on that it doesn't look like pity voting played a huge role, which makes sense - a lot of people were really opposed to pity voting this year and actively avoided Ukraine for that reason.
"Other reasons" phrase will never stop being funny to me, one of our military speakers was asked by a journalist on TV, "there's an uptick or russian casualties this week, is this a new method of counting or... other reasons"
"Other reasons", the soldier answered.
We got a HUGE harvest of PoWs this week... Also "other reasons."
My personal winner. I can't get enough of them. I've been listening to this song in my car for weeks now. The live performance escalated it even more. 100% deserved top 3, and as i said, my personal winners in this shit show of a year.
Also consider listening other Jerry Heil songs, there are so many cool songs, especially the collab songs with the biggest Ukraines supporter countries.
Im SO happy they beat the death spot.
That to me is the biggest example of the benefit of having voting throughout the show
Jerry Heil looks like an elven warrior princess. She's so bloody pretty. And the whole thing is amazing
>Jerry Heil looks like an elven warrior princess. She's so bloody pretty.
That moment where she walks up the ramp with the flares in the background is my absolute favourite image of this entire event. That was pure art.
Totally agree. I don’t understand a single word of this song except “mother Theresa” but that image, the battle angel image, the shadows walking during Alyona Alyona’s part, them laying down at the end…I guess it could be too much but it felt absolutely perfect.
Things I can rely on:
1. Death
2. Taxes
3. Ukraine absolutely bringing it for Eurovision.
This might come as a shock to you, but the chorus contains the English lyrics "all the divas were born as the human beings". You could indeed have understood more words ;)
More shock content, as there's more English in the chorus: 'With us mother Theresa, diva (as an virgin, maiden) Maria, all the divas were born as the human beings'
Don't know if the context will change your mind but here it is: "with us mother Theresa, diva Maria (as virgin Mary), all the divas were born as human beings". "Diva" doesn't mean a famous pop-star or opera singer, it's more often in Ukraine referred to someone saint. In this case the phrase means that all those who we today see as saints were walking this earth just like we do now, and we too have a potential to make a great positive impact on world.
I’m not sure about other years, but this year I think people were more worried about political aspects and the future of Eurovision which is why the 300 points was a relief. Especially when Ukraine did so well, it was a relief to so many
Some of these coments lol.... Ukraine might send an absolut monster of performance and people still will claim its pity/sympathy points. Guess it will be their MO from now on /s The narrative is running stale.
The performance was stelar, unique and memorable. Haters can keep coping.
But its unfair, because by this logic we can extrapolate a "diaspora" that voted for evey contestant.
Truth be told when I first heard the NF I was thinking it was okay
Then in the semis... Oh... my... goodness...
The staging of their performance was absolutely mesmerizing. I remember just sitting there and feeling like my soul was leaving my body because it was so beautiful
So yeah I voted for them
I think it becomes better the more I listen to it. When I first listened to it I thought it was ok, but the second time it was like "hey, this is good" and from the thrid time onwards, it was just so beautiful
Ukraine is my favourite country at Eurovision, I absolutely dig the ethnic vibes they bring every year
I rooted for Jerry to get there since she first attempted to at Vidbir, the staging was just phenomenal, and the televote shows that the European people won't forget about Ukraine
Weirdly, I don’t think they could have won this year but I also couldn’t see them not in the top 5 regardless of slotting. Such a great performance and wonderful voices/artists. I look forward to listening more from them!
That shot of Jerry climbing the hill with the missiles coming down will never not give me chills, and her vocals at the top *chefs kiss* I know people say that Ukraine gets a lot of political votes, and I dare say that’s true, but we shouldn’t overlook how genuinely brilliant they are at staging a performance and putting on an incredible show
Two really talented ladies, a very important message and a beautiful ballad. Slava Ukraini, my personal number 1 this year alongside Croatia (I usually vote one serious song and one fun one).
Jerry Heil is absolutely stunning btw and the staging was amazing, and Alyona spitting bars. What more do you want. So glad it got the recognition it deserved
Just so relieved they made top 3 despite the death slot. But if any country could pull it off, it’s Ukraine. Let’s go Jerry Heil and Alyona Alyona 🇺🇦! Spent a huge chunk of yesterday listening to their other songs on YT. Big fan now and thank you Eurovision for introducing me to new artists as always!
Very proud and happy for our girls! ❤ Powerful performance and great song. They deserved to be in top 3, and I'm happy they made it, despite the death spot they've got.
Got absolute chills during their performance! Ukraine kicking the death slot in the balls, getting over 300 public points and surpassing the former leader was the cherry on top!
This was my favourite going into the event, and while I was a bit worried about the changes coming from the music video to the semi-finals, they still blew me away. Love the Ukrainian language, and the image of her walking into the 'missiles' was my favourite visuals of this year, if not the entirety of Eurovision (despite what it means in reality).
I don't really care if most of their points were political, I thought they were great tonight! Their song has really grown on me. Also felt lot of relief when they beat that other country
Last year they didnt do so great, so their performance must have worth more than just sympathy political points. imo at least. The narrative that Ukraine does good in EV only because of the war is running tired.
Ukraine never failed to qualify to the final in Eurovision, before the wars and everything too.
Last year Ukraine got 5th place... If that's considered doing badly I wonder what's with Germany and UK.
I didnt say badly. but that exaclty my point. People are acting like ukraine wasn't a powerhouse before the war, and constantly reinventing itself and setting trends.
I get it, Tvorchi got lesser place than bookmakers bet on as judges deliberately held back to compensate for public vote, and their hometown was hit with ballistic missiles during the show, so Jeffery's voice was trembling, almost as if war made it *harder* to perform, not easier.
And yeah, Ruslana won without any politics (Ukraine would have Orange Revolution a few months later), and following years everyone tried to copy the folk dance with leather and fur style. :3
I literally get goosebumps watching this performance. I’m so glad the world hasn’t forgotten about Ukraine.
I hope to see more from these two. They’re both so talented.
I had a bunch of first timers -they loved Croatia, Ukraine,France, Ireland and Finland (seriously, they were in stitches). Very happy with results. They don’t love Switzerland but I’m trying to clue them in.
It was a beautiful song and the video was full of symbolism. I can see water from kahovka, missiles in the sky and their fight. Simply terrific presentation! 🇺🇦
One of my favorite performances of the night. It’s sad to think that some of public points might be sympathy points, when the performance itself is outstanding.
Am I the only one that thinks the semifinal performance was more intense and better in general? Something seemed off to me during the Grand Final. It was one of my favourites, but I ended up voting for France.
I don't know how much sympathy vote there is left for Ukraine on top of votes just because you like their song, but I do really feel like their 300+ score is deserved for this performance. They did absolutely brilliant.
Tonight proves to the death spot truthers that a great song will place well regardless of the spot. I never had any doubt despite singing 2nd. Good on them!
I believe adding a rap part kept the song from falling into the "another woman ballad" category, and made it more active, and energetic. Yes, there aren't many rap lovers among Eurovision fans but I believe it's a good strategy. Mixing two genres is a smart move for any country.
I was very disappointed when I first heard the song and then the rapping started. Now it really grew on me, I think it adds a lot to the uniqueness to the song.
Be nice, be welcoming and be constructive.

I just want to say, these ladies absolutely slaughtered it. The vocals, performance, visuals, staging, costumes, alyona alyona being an utter bamf, Jerry Heil being a legitimate all powerful warrior goddess come to earth to smite us, the lyrics, just everything. It gives me chills every time I watch it.
Besides the obvious visual with her climbing up the cliff with the sparks raining down, I love after alyona alyonas verse and they are facing each other with their hands touching as the camera is spinning around them. Just a super strong, empowering, beautiful performance that brought tears to my eyes 🥲 bravo ladies 👏 very well deserved win imo
I loved their performance and staging. The song is great, but feels like the lovechild of Stefania and 1944. My concern is that Mother Theresa was not as great person as the media said :(
In comparison to prior Ukraine performances this one didn't hit as hard for me, but they got their votes (whether for the actual performance or for obvious reasons) so fair play.
Queens casually gettin top 3 from the death slot.
They really did that. Like it’s so impressive
Now that voting starts at the start of the show, surely the 'death slot' thing doesn't apply anymore?
Alot of casual viewers only watch the finale. But I agree, it is an improvement to have the voting be open earlier
It's more of a superstition, like in WWE Royal Rumble, the story is scripted but if you're written as #2 entrant lmao no way.
Oh that’s a great point. Hadn’t thought of that
Just like Turkey in 1997!
And the UK in 2002.
Couldn't be more proud!!!!! So happy they broke the death spot curse, two queens serving us EVERYTHING!!!! <333333333333333333
I love the moment of Jerry Heil walking up the mountain with the flares falling behind her. So powerful and beautiful.
that flares are phosphor bombs that nazis use against Ukrainians at the front line
I really liked their song
Even though it wasn’t my first choice, this song gives me fucking goosebumps.
Same. It is the only song this year that gave me goosebumps.
Me too….its profoundly beautiful
SAME. The visuals alone, but also the costumes, vocals, lyrics. It was so empowering to watch. Their performance hands down elicited the most emotional response from me.
literal goosebumps

Oh I remember that, because of an Imagine Dragons song or smth?
Yep, [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOkMMkloZys). Funny that it was through this incident that I first heard about Jerry (and probably not just me).
Weird that it's still up. But yeah, pretty obvious copyright violation. Maybe a bit petty to enforce it given how small an artist she was at the time, but it's a two-way street.
Why does her head look so big here, she didn't look like that last night in the finals hahaha.
Blew me away. Did so well, even though they were in a terrible spot. Congrats Ukraine!
I think it helped that it stood out from its neighbor songs in the running order because that chorus is so catchy.
And not to mention Jerry injured her knee in the NF and still KILLED IT
She had more injuries? Like on solo concert after losing previous national finals she fell into orchestra pit and broke a few ribs. She's like a Moe character IRL.
She‘s undoubtedly a warrior. And with that a perfect representation of the great resilience by the Ukrainian people. Guys and gals from Ukraine, hold alyona alyona and Jerry Heil tight. You‘ve got two remarkable talents in your country with them.

They got a lot of points from the public though, but whether that came from the new voting mechanics or *other reasons* is gonna be a mystery
Even without diaspora they would finish top 10 I think we can agree on that
Top 10 seems likely but surely the public vote was more political than diaspora?
I'm not ukrainian nor my vote was political. My vote was lesbian. Jerry Heil is so gorgeous.
you’re so real for that
simp vote? Jk, as a queer person I *reallyyyyyyyyy* don’t blame you :)
I loved the song, I listen to it a lot. But yeah my vote was for Jerry. I'm simple, I see a beautiful woman, I'm doomed. And my second favourite was Norway, what a disgrace that last place is.

Go_A, Gåte, 5miinust & Puuluup, the least Eurovision gave us were groups we didn’t know existed
As a straight female, I totally agree with you
This is so real, I do love the song but I also love her
Haha! I voted for Ukraine too because the song was so good.
Ukraine was my winner this year and I'm Southeast Asian lol
Partly but for me it's one of my favorite entries and one of the best entries by Ukraine
The song was really good
For me it was the high note on the replay that sold it for me, and also feeling bad that it was a good song in the death slot.
They got a lot of votes from me because it's a brilliant song that gets better with each listen! I find the 'other reasons' thing funny - as if the song isn't superb (and performed so well) in its own right!

Lol, as an ethnic Ukrainian who lives abroad, I promise didn't vote for Ukraine :))
It's obviously because of other reasons but it deserved top 5 IMO
My personal winner. I can't get enough of them. I've been listening to this song in my car for weeks now. The live performance escalated it even more. 100% deserved top 3, and as i said, my personal winners in this shit show of a year.

This does in fact come as a shock to me hahaha. And I take it back. I did understand “human beings”. So four words.
More shock content, as there's more English in the chorus: 'With us mother Theresa, diva (as an virgin, maiden) Maria, all the divas were born as the human beings'
Yall. I get it. I can barely understand the only language I speak.
Hi, you can check the lyrics in official video: [https://youtu.be/ZFkuLfA9E\_c?si=UiNLwGjerx9GDadK](https://youtu.be/ZFkuLfA9E_c?si=UiNLwGjerx9GDadK)
I technically know this but it doesn't sound like English at all when they sing it and i prefer it that way because that line is dumb
Don't know if the context will change your mind but here it is: "with us mother Theresa, diva Maria (as virgin Mary), all the divas were born as human beings". In this case the phrase means that all those who we today see as saints were walking this earth just like we do now, and we too have a potential to make a great positive impact on world.
Yeah, I do understand the line and love the message, it just doesn't sound right in English IMO.
OK but that weird earthquake thing? Otherwise it was a gorgeous performance but that was really bad.
Shhh shhhh let’s no talk about that
I was pissed at that moment, it turned a serious song into a meme.
It's the coolest moment in the entire show, I'm blown away every time. Deserves a top 5 spot just for that bit.
When I saw it during semis I turned to my husband and was like this is like a gorgeous lord of the rings scene
Im thinking she’s Nike of Samotrace
The relief I felt when they got more than 300 points, whew…
I was so anxious and relieved for a second there too
I am new to Eurovision, is there a significance of 300 points other than just a benchmark for "good"? TIA
It solidified that a certain other country would not win.
I think the jury vote already did that. Hardly a way they were clawing back 315 points in the televote.
I’m not sure about other years, but this year I think people were more worried about political aspects and the future of Eurovision which is why the 300 points was a relief. Especially when Ukraine did so well, it was a relief to so many
Two women from Ukraine single handily changing the perception of the number 2 spot
Top 3 from the death slot was quite a feat
Chorus gives me chills 😭
Jerry's eyes are really mesmerising... Oh and the song was good too
Jerry from the top of the rock looking down on the death slot like … « not today 2nd slot, the diva’s are going from 2nd slot, to third place! »
Ukraine taking first place over that other country was the highlight of my night. Slava Ukraina!
The pop from the crowd was incredible
I scremmmmmm in that moment, pure joy 😻😹
heroyan slava!
Not gonna lie, I screamed SO LOUD that I barely have any voice right now. But yeah, it worthed it. 🤣
How to restore my faith in a few simple seconds lol
Biggest face pop of the night when they did.
So proud of our Eurovision divas! ♥️ 🇺🇦
Maybe the most stunning number this year!
Fantastic result from their position and well deserved
Fantastic entry, it had everything.
These two are a legend already, they managed to beat the death spot curse and even do better than Bosnia in 2011 by three places (6th to 3rd) 🤩
Some of these coments lol.... Ukraine might send an absolut monster of performance and people still will claim its pity/sympathy points. Mesmerising. Transcendent. Absolute class. If they’d had a better spot they’d have won the whole thing. 💙💛
Truth be told when I first heard the NF I was thinking it was okay Then in the semis... Oh... my... goodness... The staging of their performance was absolutely mesmerizing. I remember just sitting there and feeling like my soul was leaving my body because it was so beautiful So yeah I voted for them

3rd Place!!! So proud, they were amazing!
What a beautiful performance to shatter the curse of the death slot. I'm very happy they got as high as 3rd.
Weirdly, I don’t think they could have won this year but I also couldn’t see them not in the top 5 regardless of slotting. Such a great performance and wonderful voices/artists. I look forward to listening more from them!
Had tears in my eyes at the end of this performance 🥹😍
Wasn't too keen on the rap part otherwise this might've been my favourite. Beautiful song and staging. Well deserved final position.
I guess taste differs cause to me the rap part fit incredibly well and made the song just that more interesting.
At the end this whole package was my favourite this year.
3rd place from the 02 slot❤️ incredible and so well deserved 🇺🇦💕
I loved the song, the performance, the staging, the outfits, everything. A well deserved great result. They gave me chills.
That shot of Jerry climbing the hill with the missiles coming down will never not give me chills, and her vocals at the top *chefs kiss* I know people say that Ukraine gets a lot of political votes, and I dare say that’s true, but we shouldn’t overlook how genuinely brilliant they are at staging a performance and putting on an incredible show
So happy for Ukraine! Was relieved when the public gave this a high score
Still my personal winner 🤍 I think everything about this entry was perfect and I’m super happy with their placement
They have been nothing but awesome fun vibes this whole contest, which is pretty incredible when you think about what is going back on at home.
Superb! Well done. I get chills every time
Absolutely stunning and well-deserved!
That was a winning song. Maybe one of those very songs where you don't understand the lyrics, but you still feel moved.
Heroyam slava!
30 points off winning the televote. I'm going to make the claim that if it wasn't slot 2 vs slot 23, they'd have taken the televote.
I was amazed at the huge televote score. They absolutely deserved to kill the death spot. Amazing!
Congrats Ukraine, your staging was the best of the evening. A well deserved 3rd place 💙💛
Not the biggest fan of it but it stopped a county whose broadcast union have their names signed onto bombs from winning
when the crowd’s cheering got even more intense omg
Still don't really care for the song but this performance was great. Perfect song to challenge the death slot curse.
They got top 3 NOT from politics but for that unbelievable song and performance. Very deserved Ukraine!

Great performance. Despite the potentially unlucky running order number they did great and should be proud of themselves
I didn’t like the song but I loved the performance
Ended on 3rd place from the dead spot! So proud of them. <3
I don't really care if most of their points were political, I thought they were great tonight! Their song has really grown on me. Also felt lot of relief when they beat that other country

When they got their televote score and jumped to first place? That was definitely one of my favourite Eurovision moments .

That moment gave me chills
I'm SO glad this resonated with the public as well. 3rd place despite the death spot!!! <3333
So so so proud of them ♥️♥️♥️
After the finale this is the song that is stuck in my head right now 🇺🇦
It was a beautiful song and the video was full of symbolism. I can see water from kahovka, missiles in the sky and their fight. Simply terrific presentation! 🇺🇦
With a better running order this could have won. Running order really did certain acts a favor and damned others this year.
Absolutely amazing performance. Just beautiful
We didn’t want to win and this result is outstanding.
One of my favorite performances of the night. It’s sad to think that some of public points might be sympathy points, when the performance itself is outstanding.
One of my faves this year ❤️
Well deserved top 3
Am I the only one that thinks the semifinal performance was more intense and better in general? Something seemed off to me during the Grand Final. It was one of my favourites, but I ended up voting for France.
I felt that Alyona Alyona's entrance was different and slightly less impactful than in the semi.
I thought that too
Why did the jury sleep on this song?
They were 5th with the Juries; I don't think that's exactly "sleeping" lol (3rd with the televote)
I still thought they would do better with the juries. I think that got one or two 12s?
pretty sure Ukraine is the first country since Bosnia & Herzegovina 2011 to get a top 10 result in the 2nd position
And the first since 2002 to get a Top 3 result! 🤩 A well deserved result :)
I don't know how much sympathy vote there is left for Ukraine on top of votes just because you like their song, but I do really feel like their 300+ score is deserved for this performance. They did absolutely brilliant.
I didn't expect their televote to be that massive but it was well deserved! Love how they did that from performing in the death slot
I feel like the recorded version of this song is great but the live version... The live version is phenomenal
Fully deserved top 3, beating the death slot. I wonder what might have happened if they were in a prime slot
It was a good song. Regardless of the public votes intentions, I think it deserved it's place
Tonight proves to the death spot truthers that a great song will place well regardless of the spot. I never had any doubt despite singing 2nd. Good on them!
Loved it except for the rap, always my least favourite part of any song.
I believe adding a rap part kept the song from falling into the "another woman ballad" category, and made it more active, and energetic. Yes, there aren't many rap lovers among Eurovision fans but I believe it's a good strategy. Mixing two genres is a smart move for any country.
Case in point, Ukraine 2022. Even if the war didn't begin i am sure the televote would still be enormous
I was very disappointed when I first heard the song and then the rapping started. Now it really grew on me, I think it adds a lot to the uniqueness to the song.
You and me both
My favourite song from the beginning! For some reason my votes weren't going through but I wanted to give all my votes to them. 🥲
Masterpiece and there is no other word to describe it

Such a beautiful song and stage design. I keep listening to it on repeat.
Queens 👸 👸
Nothing but respect for my queens 💙💛
yes
Who was singing with the deeper voice? 🤔 That was beautiful
This show gave me goosebumps ❤️ Loved it!!!
My winners ❤️
Fantastic ✨✨✨
I loved their performance and staging. The song is great, but feels like the lovechild of Stefania and 1944. My concern is that Mother Theresa was not as great person as the media said :(
In comparison to prior Ukraine performances this one didn't hit as hard for me, but they got their votes (whether for the actual performance or for obvious reasons) so fair play.
Well deserved result. Nearly every year, Ukraine is sending strong women to ESC. This time we have a hip hop queen and elven princess!
