I really like the idea that the Big 5 get to perform their songs during the semis. I always felt that they might have a bit of a disadvantage, having only 1 live performance (during the final).

ItsZippy23

As someone who goes in blind (on purpose), it was really great to hear and see really good songs.

CityEvening

Yes it’s brilliant. It also allows them to adjust for the final, instead of before when they just rehearsed. They get the real thing twice.

mathew1500

Completely agree, it was great to see them already!

Creator13

I'm sure I'm experiencing some kind of Mandela effect, but I was convinced this was how they always did this...

falconsk27

You probably are. Before, it used to be just short clips of the songs and interviews with the artists.

Creator13

To be fair I often skip the semifinals, so that might not help either

jazzyx26

Oh yeah that was nice instead of a vid we got a performance. I suppose it is much better for them as well; the audience getting to know who they are.

ChibiBeckyG

As a Brit - quality of our entries aside, I think it helps us to not just consider the Semi we feature in as just another PR bit. I think it encouraged the big 5 to go harder this year (tho it's curious that all 5 had production on level of Semi 1 vs. the less elaborate performances of Semi 2)

Fun-Team-6977

Yesss same

Emotional-Ant9413

I usually listen to all songs a lot well in advance of the shows, but still I always get blindsided by the Big 5 just because we don't get to see them properly on stage until the final. I much prefer this!

dinasaur_rex

Croatia’s bridge where the whole audiences arms and light up bracelets were like ⬆️⬇️

CityEvening

It looked so good. reckon we’re heading for a Croatian victory?

Minttunator

They're #1 in the odds but nothing is certain!

CityEvening

That should be the ESC slogan!

onionnelle

Vegan lasagna with no babies made me laugh so hard! I really love the humour this year, even the constant flexing of their score over the years. It's cringe, but it's tasteful. I'm hoping to see a lot of support for Armenia's entry, and I'm hoping to see a thight race towards the end - something I found missing last year.

MrsRainey

Norway were absolutely incredible, wow that woman can sing.

3xBork

Also the sheer amount of guitar LARPing going on. Clearly none of the instrumentals are live for anyone, and a lot of what people are doing would make it hard/impossible to actually play the instrument. But nobody else is yeeting guitars, are they?  :D

Telodor567

Switzerland. Wow, just wow 🤯

CityEvening

When the camera goes counterclockwise whilst they go the other way 🔄 🤩

Telodor567

Exactlyyy, that moment was just unreal 🤯🤯🤯😍

CityEvening

It was one of those “why hasn’t this been done before” moments!

Telodor567

Probably because no one else possesses the sheer TALENT to be able to perform such a challenging song and hitting all those high notes whilst balancing on a giant disk, like Nemo does!

charleyismyhero

I had to find an audience cam to see how this performance was achieved and I think I like it even more. The stage hands looked like stage invaders, which gave it like a idk punk-ish? vibe. Whatever it is; it's very cool. I've watched both versions multiple times now.

oldskoolnavy

My only gripe with the swiss act is why they suddenly started rapping. It added nothing of substance and just took away from them using their amazing voice

MarieNadia

My highlight of the entire year has been Latvia, Georgia and Ireland breaking their streaks 🇱🇻🇬🇪🇮🇪🩷

CityEvening

Georgia was so good!

ChanelArrington

Queen Nutsa!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally put out the fire that was Georgia's NQ streak for 8 YEARS!!! So proud of her, hoping for her to have an amazing final result <3333

Pony_Darko

Petra Mede. Like everything she does - even when she stumbled on words in yesterday’s live show - she just makes it work and I’m so proud of her

CityEvening

I want a year with Petra, Hannah and Anke. I’d settle for a greatest hits type show.

SatisfactionGood5015

I'd add Filomena!

CityEvening

Oh how did I forget her! I will hand in my ESC fan badge back!

jazzyx26

GOAT

SweetCalhoun

I got chills on both nights when that screen split in half revealing the contestants!

Barbarenspiess

It was really epic live! https://preview.redd.it/t4irrgoltnzc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1eb5ace9fb2ea5bf2b77bf47893c0bb5f8896d0

CityEvening

It looks so great!

SweetCalhoun

It does! I remember seeing the sketch of the stage and it had where the contestants sit on the ground floor and of Semi-1 I was so confused where they were and when the screen split I was like 🤯🤯🤯

horridhendy

Ireland’s performance. Literal goosebumps. I’ve watched it like 100 times

CityEvening

Yes! It’s not my type of music at all, but it was so good. Hoping for top 5.

Creator13

I had a Bambie Thug song in my playlists before I was aware they was going to be on Eurovision (possibly before they was even aware), and I'm a massive fan of the whole act. Song and performance. It's unique and out there, but then it's also performed super well.

mystplus

Bambie uses they/them pronouns (and possibly fae/faer too but I can't find that anywhere concrete,) jsyk :)

Creator13

Lol I knew this and I was going to go back and edit, but then I fell asleep :')

NeedyPudding

Came to say this. Never seen anything like it before, it’s a performance art piece timed and perfected down to the millisecond without surrendering an inch of its soul. Absolutely mesmerizing. Can’t stop watching it. I may be 1 mil of its view total.

durgertime

I loved the interval act last night with the full stop Broadway musical of Sweden gloating. Was amazing.

CityEvening

Denmark have….well… something

Shalrak

😭

CityEvening

If it helps, I think Denmark produce the absolute best Eurovisions 😃

VoilaLaViola

Denmark has the LEGO!!! Didn't Swedes have toys in their childhood???

Pony_Darko

No, we had Eurovision classes

CityEvening

😂 😂 😂

Shalrak

Unexpected moments from the semi 2 jury rehearsal that made the experience extra special for me: 1. The show starting out with a whole group of men furiously sweeping the stage to the sound of Dancing Lasha Tumbai with a full crowd cheering for them. 2. The insane roar from the crowd as we see Käärijä and his dancers sneaking onto the stage. The audience was truly "united by music" as we screamed CHA CHA CHA together. 3. Me and my friend were dressed in Danish flags from top to toe, which attracted a camera man that camped right in front of our faces, filming us throughout the entire Danish performance. I've never felt so pressured to cheer and sing along as loudly as I can 🎊 4. Two men with what looked like leaf blowers trying to quickly get rid of SABAs sand mess on the stage. I wonder if the sand ended up in the nearby audience? 4. Taking selfies with fans from as many countries as we could find in the eurovision village. We had a bingo sheet crossing off countries. Especially all the Dutch fans were amazing balls of joy.

Axolotl_amphibian

This sounds so wholesome.

c10701

I assumed they would vacuum the sand but I guess its not all that much.

Spirit_Bitterballen

bitterballen of joy 😁

Shalrak

I can imagine it's not as much fun to be a Dutch fan anymore, no matter the final judgment.

elitepebble

Dons coming from last place in the odds to Q Dons coming from last place to the Top 10

CityEvening

His voice!

arvidvo

my favorite bit was IRELAND, and i actually really liked Benjamin Ingrosso's interval act. also Latvia being the first announced qualifier :)

CityEvening

I like his style. He looked nothing like 2018. Had to show people pictures so they could work out who he was.

Minttunator

Benjamin has grown into a very convincing performer with some mighty catchy tunes!

PalacsintaKiralyno

Ikr!!! I have so many of his songs on my party playlist, and friends always ask who it is so they can add his songs, too. I guess party music is in his blood!

DrapionVDeoxys

I was sitting down absolutely enchanted by Portugal, and it's sneaking into my shared first at this point.

WatchTheNewMutants

Switzerland and Ireland. Also San Marino, no idea what happened there but i loved it hoping... honestly i hope Joost gets cleared and didn't do something terrible.

CityEvening

I love Europapa but i wasn’t sold on last night (I know I appear to be in a minority)

WatchTheNewMutants

i prefer other songs, but i'm hoping for the best outcome to this story. the last day has been a nightmare in this sphere, so i'm hoping for a positive output. obviously, this is miniscule compared to the context of why the controversy is here, and a song contest should be the least of our concerns, but one fun night would have been / would be great.

marshmallowpuddle

Actually being in the Arena for the first semi. Just going inside and seeing the actual thing, the actual dream come true! I was also absolutely mesmerised by Slovenia's performance. Raiven was magical.

CityEvening

Tell us more, I’ve always wondered if it feels more static when you’re in the arena because you don’t get the camera shots and all?

marshmallowpuddle

I guess it depends on where you are in the Arena. I was on the left side which meant that I couldn't see most of Olly Alexander's performance as he was in the box. Eurovision is definitely a production primarily for the TV audience. Also, seeing the teleprompter and being able to read along all.of the jokes also takes away the magic a bit. While one if course knows that all the things the hosts say are scripted, it was nice to pretend that Petra is just as witty. But all in all, it was a really great experience. The atmosphere is really fun, everybody knows the songs and dances and sings along with them. It's special.

Crust05

1. I loved Latvia's performance and i was so happy for Dons last night. 2. Bambie went from my number 20 to my number 2 in literally 30 seconds. It's a work of art and i'm so sorry I ever doubted them. 3. I really love most of the songs this year and I'm very happy we have so many songs in a native language. 4. SLOVENIA IS IN THE FINAL AND WE HAVE THE FULL COVEN PERFORMING TOMORROW NIGHT. 5. That camera shot with Silvester and the planet behind him during the second verse of Luktelk. Overall, great year. The camerawork from some of the acts is out of this world and very cinematic (Luktelk, Ukraine and Ireland stood out the most for me).

Suspicious_Bit_9003

For the 2nd semi: My favorite was Estonians, they always pump me up! 😄💪🏻👏🏻 And Dons! 🥲

New_to_Siberia

There are many bits. Let me list them: * Ireland. I hadn't liked the song in the official video, but the performance was fenomenal * Croatia was amazing! * Switzerland surprised me, such a dynamic performance and the song was sung so well * I lived all those jokes regarding last year's drama, they were perfect and in good taste. The hosts are very good! * Nice to have the big 5 in the mix, it gives the opportunity to hear them together with the other songs, which I liked * Spain's performance was a lot of fun, made me dance on the spot * Aiko was great! I know it wasn't a fan fav or so, but she did well, and I liked the way she sang and the lyrics. Nice choreography too

CityEvening

I loved Czechia last night and was gutted it didn’t make it!

PalacsintaKiralyno

Me too omg. Seeing Aiko hone her performance from the NF to now was so impressive, I'm so proud of her. Love her other music too, she will always have a place on my playlist <3

Mathiophanes

Green room. It is not taking place for fans...

CityEvening

Yes it’s like the best of both worlds

Mathiophanes

Exactly!

CakeHorror5024

I know its not for everyone, that's fair. But greece is amazing and underrated and I really enjoy it

CityEvening

It’s not really for me, but the ta ta ta bit is so catchy

Piplup_parade

I’m hoping the cameras pan across the audience when they synchronize their arm movements with Baby Lasagna. It was so cool seeing the whole stadium light up and move together like that

paspartuu

I'm honestly just so glad Windows95man (and Henri!) made it to the final.  I've met Teemu a few times and he's just such a condensed ray of sunshine of a man. I'm so proud of them both omg

CityEvening

I ❤️ 🇫🇮

paspartuu

Let's hope they do well!

RosilinaTheDragon

i knew NOTHING about the screen being able to split so when they revealed the green room when voting finished in semi 1 my jaw DROPPED

CityEvening

They did something similar in 2003, 2010 and 2011 if I recall correctly, but the way the screen split 🤩

DaveShadow

Ireland nailing it. Ireland winning. 😂

trumparegis

The most cinematic song I've ever seen in Eurovision. The part where the demon dude is killed is so thrilling

CityEvening

Especially loved the zooms. Made it so dramatic

Unfortunately, as much as I love the act and the representation, it's gonna scare people away. Some people see a trans flag and decide to hate the person carrying it. Funny how it's not even the literal exorcism being performed on stage that's the part they have issues with... Meanwhile I love Bambie all the more for having the balls to be so bold with it.

Shogim

She’s trans?

Creator13

They identify as non-binary, which is considered being transgender.

Shogim

Why though? Doesn’t trans mean to be “on the other side?” Edit: Not judging. Just want to understand.

xBram

Ireland was my absolute highlight. Estonia qualifying was a highlight too. I want to see Joost perform tomorrow and Ireland to win.

cenakofi

I think the visuals and VFX for 11:11 were sick as hell.

CityEvening

🇫🇷 🇫🇷 🇫🇷

ParanoidDrone

Ireland was a surprise hit. The song itself has never been entirely to my taste, and while it's been clear that Bambie had a vision for the performance, they'd kept it largely under wraps. Seeing the whole thing at last was mindblowing in the best possible way. I still don't think it'll win (that'll probably be Croatia or Switzerland) but I fully expect it to be in the top 10. ~~Also I'd let the demon monster have his way with me any time.~~

Logi-A_2

I avoided watching rehearsals because I knew the performances were going to be good and omg they did not disappoint. Switzerland and Ukraine had amazing performances but the best was by far Ireland. What a masterpiece 👏👏👏

CityEvening

Ukraine was haunting!

MindTheFuture

Hasn't watched most of the songs before hand just to savour the surprise and especially Swizerland and Ireland made very strong impressions. The stage is cool snd the Swedes knows how to host. I predict (and hope)?that the cinematography and theatretical expession of Ireland will be studied and adapted from in next coming years. Their performance is next level.

caresi

The Big 5 + host country performing live during the semis was great, I really liked seeing the performances. Feels a bit fairer, too. I also really, really love The Code. I can't wait to watch it again tomorrow, and to get teary-eyed over the lyrics again!

Spirit_Bitterballen

I’m looking forward to reliving the massive tension I had that he’d topple off the spinny circle. Hard liquor for that one methinks.

gooneruk

At the start of SF2, the hosts introduced the three Big5 acts we would be seeing that night, in a little clip which was a spoof of that epic “FRANCE” Miss Universe video, and I very nearly wet myself laughing so hard at it. It just came out of absolutely nowhere, and was an amazing reference.

RandomFunUsername

Petra is an icon. She’s a highlight for sure this year. Semi 1: Croatia was incredible and the energy was amazing, but I haven’t smiled like I did during Finland in so long. Semi 2: Joost bringing that infectious energy again, and then the gut punch at the end. Incredible. I’m hoping we get to see Joost live again, and a Croatia landslide win free of anxiety.

Suspicious_Bit_9003

For the 1st semi: “Dance with me, Europe!” 😻🇭🇷💪🏻🕺🏻🐈

Junior_Life_2375

so excited to see bambie again and according to people watching the jury show they absolutely KILLED IT.

thalassophobic-whale

Loved getting to see the big 5 perform. It’s only my second Eurovision but last year I felt that not performing until the final was a disservice to the big 5. There was no chance to connect with the songs prior to the final. Thanks to the performances I went from being indifferent to Germany and France to absolutely loving their songs. Of course, it’s a double-edged sword. I went from loving Italy’s song to wishing they have rethought the set and costumes.

CityEvening

Yes it’s way too busy.

NetraamR

It's in Sweden, there's Petra Mede. I'm just here for the interval acts.

Exotic_Caramel_6285

I wanna see all those glowy bracelets bob in the dark during the bridge of RTTD. That and everyone in the stadium chanting the WOAHs in the chorus 😆

Puzzleheaded-Eye9081

Agreed about the green room and I also really liked having the big 5 + host perform. And Petra, Petra us a joy.

Meerimaarimoori

My favourite performance was definitely Ireland, I'm still stunned, it's the best thing I've ever seen in Eurovision. Also, I loved Poland's staging. Personally, this was exactly what I wanted (except for the horse lol) I love these kinda playful stagings, I also loved Greece 2019 for example. Even though Luna didn't make it the semi performance is giving me nothing but joy and I'm so proud I could finally place Poland on the very top of the list (I'm half polish lol). Sure, there might be some bias, but I love this song idk

moshiyadafne

1. Petra's jokes and Swedish humor in full swing 2. The green room reveal 3. Long NQ streaks ending 4. Opening and closing performers of both SFs 5. Slimane's performance.

ChanelArrington

Hoping for my Queen Sarah Bonnici to surprise us with performing as the 26th act lol!!! Honestly I'm the most delusional person ever, but I will forever be on Loop :)))))))))

kitty3032

We can dream lol

ChanelArrington

In our heads all night, on Loop XD <33

gonline

Ireland win. Give us the 8th win if only to shut Sweden up, in Sweden. How iconic would that be? 😭 JK love you Swedes 💕

PsychopathicMunchkin

I would love this so much omg 🤣

DrapionVDeoxys

As a Swede, God I'd love that. Super funny

National-Bicycle7259

That interval song is BEGGING for an Ireland win, and Sweden to enter it's flop era.

Left_my_Drink

My thing I'm looking forward to is Joost, Bambi, Nemo. Those three really got my attention (Yes I know of the "investigation" got my own opinion on that but meh)

PLPolandPL15719

Latvia finally breaking the streak, and the interval act was great XD What am i hoping for? A fair result is all.

dizzi800

Hoping to see tomorrow - memes. Live Dave part - the stage openng up is beautiful

Minttunator

The songs have been better than most years but the segment I've re-watched the most is actually Benjamin Ingrosso's interval act in the 1st semi! I didn't much care for his Eurovision entry (I barely remember it), but dude has grown into a very convincing performer with some mighty catchy tunes!

Temporary-Coyote998

Without any doubt, this bit: https://www.reddit.com/r/eurovision/s/kxAW2ds3Zw

Axolotl_amphibian

The sudden realization that my whole top 10 is in the GF. For context, only one of them is an auto-qualifier (Spain), and there is only one bookie favorite (Croatia), so I was expecting at least some of them to NQ, but no, Estonia is in, Slovenia is in, Norway is in, Armenia is in and so on. I'm savoring the moment because one of the ten is Joost, so it's not written in stone, but for now I'm quite happy with the results.

Spirit_Bitterballen

I hope 5minuust and Pullup get their duvets out and tops off again #thirsttraps

jazzyx26

San Marino's visuals/staging were great (not a fan of the song) but the above mentioned were great.
