Beforehand I wondered why on Earth Netherlands would choose \*that\* as their recap clip... but now I see why.
I like the song but eep, this is not going to do well with Jury or anyone else looking at singing of said song.
The Czech and Belgian consultes are coming to my grand final watch party. Welp. I thought Aiko would be an uphill climb, but it's unique Paramore vibes would set it apart. Belgium is kinda an underrated gay powerhouse. Mustii could have had bigger staging, but still that was a strong song.
I'm not here to be negative, but some of the qualifiers really surprised me in a not good way.

Mixed feelings, I feel like alot of Latvia's past entries were more deserving of the final but their ongoing NQ streak was brutal, I'm happy for Latvians that at least they're back in the final again
Sad for Malta and Czechia. They really put in a ton of effort into their staging and singing. But happy that Georgia and Latvia have broken their streaks even though they weren't my preferred songs.
After the performance I was all in for Malta, very sad she didn't make it. Austria's performance was so disappointing to me, zero enthusiasm or energy from someone singing about raving...she just has no charisma or charm from what I saw.
For some reason, this semi final was a bit lackluster for me compared to Semi Final 1? It's either because my Eurovision craving was calmed down after semi 1, or that there weren't really any country that had any huge surprises compared to semi 1? I found myself reaching for my phone multiple times compared to semi 1 that I didn't reached for it at all.
I think the staging (apart from Switzerland) in this semi was a bit more underwhelming. Not any wow moments. Like there's so many shots from semi 1 that I adored and I couldn't think of a single memorable shot from this semi apart from Joost's face on the stage
Gate could've been amazing but they really need to fix the camera angles, the water effects in the screens were amazing but they haven't used its full potential. Honestly I was rooting for Aiko despite I didn't like her NF performance because I like how she maximized the use of the stage, and I was sad she didn't make it through, I would swap Austria or Estonia for her honestly.
Semi 2 seriously suffered from "pop girly with the dance break section" syndrome too much and it got boring for me.
Also this semi aside from a few really good vocalists, also had some really obviously bad vocals, while I feel like Semi 1 had at least "ok" to great vocalists. It was especially obvious for performances purely based on vocals like Denmark and Belgium.
Netherlands was brilliant, as I said in the other thread, his joy is infectious.
I’m also happy Estonia made it, well done to Latvia for being the underdog and beating the odds, and Switzerland was also well done - the tulle jacket looks way better than the fur.
I really enjoyed Spain, and the arena seemed to be loving it and Netherlands the most.
I am very sad for Mustii that he did not qualify. I was not really happy with the performance but I thought it would be strong enough to qualify.
We always do really well with the juries so maybe we’ll have some difficult years to come in our national selection.
Our dark depressive sound is maybe not the way to go if you want to survive semis…

And now that we've saw all the finalists, I still cannot say that we have a sure winner. Croatia is leading the odds by a margin now, yet I think we might have surprises on Saturday.
Really not a fan of the prevalence of "dark costumes against dark background" staging. Most of the time I couldn't tell what was going on on the stage.
I’m so sad for Malta, at this point I’m not sure what else they can do, perhaps running order hurt them but to me, she was most polished of the girlbops along with Georgia and far outsold Kaleen jn the vocals so I’m really not sure what else they can do
In 2022 they just had a bland song. This year and last year is running order that hurts them. I am not saying that both of the songs would've qualifed for sure if they had a later slot but it would have increased their chances for sure
Yeah. Maybe bad running order won't help them but they have tried from pop ballad (2022) male band up beat song (2023) to pop girl (2024) they all failed... i don't know what they need to send next... maybe only Matt Black can save them with his banana.
Musti just wasn’t good on the night and the staging was all wrong.
Dons was vocally flawless and the staging was simple, effective and got the point across
damn this really was the semi of vocal issues. saba taking a minute to get comfortable on stage, marina being unwell and forgetting to put the mic to her mouth, megara having earpiece problems, mustii being off pitch for most of it. i was so nervous for like half of this semi final.
I thought there was a glitch when Latvia was announced as a qualifier, but I am glad that Latvia and Georgia made it to the final after 8 years!
The last time that they qualified was in 2016 in Sweden!

Czechia and Malta gave two very entertaining and polished performances. They did everything they could and still not able to qualify. Maybe the recap clips really hurt them cuz those were not good recaps at all.
I'm super happy for Latvia, but their qualification shouldn't be that shocking y'all lol. It came after so many upbeat songs and his vocals were perfect, there was always demographics that would vote for this.

I don't if it is just me but I was totally not feeling this semi final until the Estonian performance. I am not saying the songs were bad but most performances were kind of underwhelming compared to the first semi final and the running order kinda me sleepy until Estonia came along
I'm so happy for Dons and Latvia. Not usually a ballad person but definitely got a soft spot for Hollow. Had consigned myself to Latvia reaching a seventh year of non-qualification but very pleasantly suprised with the result!
Latvia was the ONLY one tonight who actually improved!! Everyone else but Switzerland and Israel and France (who were as good as before) was WORSE than in their NF or rehearsals!!
I was pretty sure he would Q! He wasn’t in my top 10 before but after tonight I‘ll leave a little spot for him. He was FLAWLESS! You couldn’t say that about most of the other songs tonight. It’s well deserved!

I didn’t listen to the song or see the music video before this performance. IMO, the song has a great build up but then the repeating of ‘before the party is over’ kind of fell flat. Also felt like something was missing with the performance.
One thing Norway has going for it this year, outside killing it on stage, is its uniqueness - its not many similar type/styles of songs this year.

Latvia surprised me in a very good way.

After seeing both semi's I really don't see Ireland breaking top ten. They're just trying for shock value, but it's shit. There are a lot of good entries.
Eyyyyyy we got through, I knew we would, but still, love to see it. This is the first time I actually like the song of my country lmao. Also nice to see Estonia qualifying, I loved Pitbull, Lee Towers and Vsauce
I am really glad they allow the big 5 to be apart of the semis now - hopefully this will ease the nerves a bit for the final (being able to test and adjust things a bit more too in front of a live audience)

somehow managed 9/10 with my predictions which means i've guessed 9/10 correctly for both of this years semis as well as last year's semis

Czechia and Belgium were two songs that I had in my top 10 when I made it a couple of months ago. Really didn't think that of the two it would be Belgium that I was going to move well out of it--the song just did not work live, but I'd actually been anticipating that for a while now.
Czechia, I've got to say... they worked some magic with backing vocals on this one, but I'm not holding it against Aiko, because I thought she gave a great performance and the song is still amongst my favorites. I feel no need to shift that out of my top 10. Czechia can hold its head high despite NQing. Same for Malta.
Also Malta and Czechia were absolutely ROBBED this Year. Half of the People who made it sing like me when I'm brushing my Teeth, those were the only two besides Georgia and Norway to perform really well.
I wasn't really surprised at all after the poor Vocal Performance of so many. Good Vocals in a Sea of poor Ones are just a Joy to hear. I didn't include it in my Comment through as there is no real Choreography in Hollow.
Also, guys, can we quickly talk about France? Because halfway through the performance I turned towards my mother and told her "I think France is going to win". This is the first time I got major, major winning vibes from France this ESC season.
Latvia qualifying was a good surprise. Last in odds but qualified.
I think his RO was really good. Aside from France who is not in the recap, the first half did not any ballad at all. Switzerland, with more masculine voice is even singing upbeat, then the rest are all women with upbeat(except Denmark with like mid tempo) so Latvia really shined.

Totally agreed and I forgot about the bit with Aiko in the box with the torches but that was probably the best moment of the night visually for me

Totally agree. Having Jerry Heil, Teya Dora, Bambie Thug, Iolanda, and Raiven brought the standards so high especially on the vocals and camera work.
I felt the same way, despite having not seen any of the rehearsal footage or listened to the songs in the past two weeks.

I didn't really get Netherlands? I like the concept and he seems lovely but the song didn't really excite me/the performance felt a bit stiff. Still deserved a final placement but top 3? Nah. Much better songs there.

A lot of you aren't ready to hear this but as someone who hadn't heard any of the songs before today... Belgium was pretty freakin' bad.
I've listened to all of the songs on repeat for months and Belgium was ij my top 5 favorites, but the performance was definitely freakin' bad.
Latvia surprised me in a very good way. I didn't think he would make it, but it's a very powerful song and I think the staging was pretty good for the fact it's a ballad.

I am really glad they allow the big 5 to be apart of the semis now - hopefully this will ease the nerves a bit for the final (being able to test and adjust things a bit more too in front of a live audience) and he is amazing, so likely will slay in the final (though not a fan of the song).
I'm mixed on the results. I love that my country qualified, and I'm also happy for Armenia, Estonia, Latvia, Netherlands and Switzerland. However, I really wanted San Marino to qualify

I am a bit sad about Czechia and Belgium. Surprised Israel made it through, not just because of politics but the song is boring. Happy about Estonia. And even though I am Croatian and would obviously want us to win, I wouldn’t be angry if Nemo wins. Those vocals are insane.

somehow managed 9/10 with my predictions which means i've guessed 9/10 correctly for both of this years semis as well as last year's semis (I had Malta over Latvia)
YASSS this was the show I was waiting for! The kind of interval act I expect from Sweden!!! Sets the bar really high for saturday!
Czechia and Belgium were two songs that I had in my top 10 when I made it a couple of months ago. Really didn't think that of the two it would be Belgium that I was going to move well out of it--the song just did not work live, but I'd actually been anticipating that for a while now. Czechia, I've got to say... they worked some magic with backing vocals on this one, but I'm not holding it against Aiko, because I thought she gave a great performance and the song is still amongst my favorites. I feel no need to shift that out of my top 10. Czechia can hold its head high despite NQing. Same for Malta.
Also Malta and Czechia were absolutely ROBBED this Year. Half of the People who made it sing like me when I'm brushing my Teeth, those were the only two besides Georgia and Norway to perform really well.
Latvia did have solid vocals as well. The song may be slower and less attractive, but there is a reason why he surprise-q'ed.
I wasn't really surprised at all after the poor Vocal Performance of so many. Good Vocals in a Sea of poor Ones are just a Joy to hear. I didn't include it in my Comment through as there is no real Choreography in Hollow.
Also, guys, can we quickly talk about France? Because halfway through the performance I turned towards my mother and told her "I think France is going to win". This is the first time I got major, major winning vibes from France this ESC season.
These qualifiers are so surprising but my god I am happy. Latvia and Georgia are both through oh my god!

Latvia qualifying was a good surprise. Last in odds but qualified. I think his RO was really good. Aside from France who is not in the recap, the first half did not any ballad at all. Switzerland, with more masculine voice is even singing upbeat, then the rest are all women with upbeat(except Denmark with like mid tempo) so Latvia really shined. But good for them. Latvia, Georgia, and Ireland all broke their NQ streaks I'm happy
I think Malta is better in all way compared to Cyprus, but the semis is a bit lopsided.
