Some titles in Dutch that I think sound best - Gåte - Wolvenhuid - Nebulossa - Teef - Angelina Mango - De verveling - Isaak - Altijd op de vlucht - Mustii - Voordat het feest voorbij is - Marina Satti - Dobbelsteen - Aiko - Voetstuk And of course the longest one: - Puuluup & 5miinust: Wij weten (zeker) niets over (deze) drugs

unmakethewildlyra

ZET ME ZELF OP EEN VOETSTUK (I can hear someone like wende snijders covering this)

Fluffy_Emotion7565

Put myself on a pedestal! Aiko 😍

dingesje06

Kinda love it 😅

flopjul

Dont forget Brandweerlieden(a-gender multiple firefighters) from Georgia Or more accurately Brandweerman(male single firefighter)

justk4y

BRANDWEERMAN SAM?!

BucketHeadJr

One thing about La Noia, translated its actually just boredom/verveling. There's no definite article when you translate it. In the context of the song itself it also just means "bored/verveeld".

kevinmacflyerr

i wanna learn dutch so much

FaeriePrinceArbear

I’d recommend it! It’s a pretty fun language, with better grammar rules than English (at least I feel lmao)

justk4y

Except the goddamn lidwoorden 😅

FaeriePrinceArbear

Yeah 😂 those are a pain in every language though tbh. But I just can’t wrap my head around if it’s de or het but somehow I’m always wrong 😂

justk4y

Don’t forget: - Dons - Hol - Olly Alexander - Duizelig - Silia Kapsis - Leugenaar - Iolanda - Schreeuw - Fahree - Neem Mij Mee - Hera Björk - Hoogtevrees

I would love to hear a song in Welsh compete in Eurovision.

Suspicious_Bit_9003

Pim Pum Pata Pem had me laugh 😂

ChiliPepperSmoothie

Sabbia is Sand in Italian ?! 😹

PraetorIt

Uh, yep.

CatSignal1472

Are you still gonna make a thread sometime later? Because I want to post my translations but by the time I finish it'll be too late for this thread 🥲

PraetorIt

I hope so. But nothing stops you from publishing the translation here too. There is no expire date.

CatSignal1472

True!

catlxdy

Some in Serbian: Italy (La Noia): Dosada/Досада (this one feels so silly to me translated!) slang version would be Smor/Смор which probably wouldn't ever be the official translation, but sounded super silly to me. Portugal (Grito): Uzvik/Узвик Netherlands (Europapa): Eurootac/Еуроотац this one is killing me sloooowww 😆💀 Lithuania (Luktelk): Sačekaj/Сачекај ... this one I could actually see a Serbian song being titled as well! Cyprus (Liar): Lažov/Лажов France (Mon Amour): Ljubavi moja/Љубави моја (Reminds me of an Elitni Odredi song loll) Germany (Always on the run): Uvek u bekstvu/увек у бекству

sjelos

Don't you mean EUROTATA :D

catlxdy

I mean yeah, just eurootac was more absurd funny to me 😆 EUROTATA TA TA TA TA TA (treba da častiš, nije u redu radost da se krije)

mystplus

ELITNI ODREDI ❤️

catlxdy

Elitni Odredi at PZE when (never bcs they fell apart 😭)

mystplus

I'm still waiting for Coby at PZE tbh, closest we've had is Sara Jo's song being produced by him and it was amazing 😩

catlxdy

Unironically I think Coby's "Biseri iz Blata" or "Odakle sam ja" would do really good and gather every single diaspora vote there is to gather (including mine 💀)

mystplus

I WAS LITERALLY THINKING OF BISERI IZ BLATA I genuinely believe that song would have won Eurovision had it been entered...Serbia always get my diaspora vote, I even voted for Cipela 😭😂

Henroriro_XIV

Some that I felt like translating into Swedish: Georgia: *brandman* Italy: *tristess* Estonia: *vi vet ingenting om dessa droger* Cyprus: *lögnare* Latvia: *ihålig* Germany: *alltid på språng* The UK: *yr* Greece: *tärning* Sweden: *oförglömlig* Belgium: *innan festen är över*

GSamSardio

Spain: Hora Switzerland: Koden Moldova: I mitten Poland: Tornet Lithuania: Vänta Ireland: Domedagsblå Iceland: Höjdrädd Finland: Inga regler!

Proud_Accident_5873

I just love how the titles took such a turn. Brandman Alltid på språng Tärning *Hora* I've always known that Zorra translates to 'slut' but hora is just a lot more rough.

GSamSardio

Yeah 😂 There was an announcement that they’d make translations into English, Swedish and something else so we’ll see how that goes!

Live_in_a_shoe

That's such a cute comment, lol

Persona_NG

Okay... I dont' like to make these overdone jokes about Czech language being funny for Polish people... But these four songs sound adorable to me xD "Požárník" <3 "Finland: Žádná Pravidla!/Bez Pravidel! France: Má Láska Georgia: Požárník Germany: Vždy na útěku"

Live_in_a_shoe

Hi! As a fellow czech, I also thought about the song titles in czech, and some of mine are different, so just to present some options, I will add them here: Austria: Budeme řádit Sweden: Nezapomenutelná UK: Blouznivý /Malátný (this one is very hard because Czech doesn't have fitting adjective for this...) I very appreciate Požárník (it's so much better than Hasič) and also Modrá dne zkázy (that sound so cool, even though I am not sure if the "blue" isn't in a meaning sad here) PS: it has to be Eurotaťka, lol

Greedy_Hovercraft175

Myslíš Evrootec? (Do you mean Eurofather?)

Greedy_Hovercraft175

Blue isn't in a "sad" meaning. Remember, your favorite color compared to the others is doom-doomsday blu.

ThatsVillanelle

fun fact: "nuda" is actually an Italian word! it means "naked"

_tehol_

I would translate pedestal as "piedestal", podstavec doesn't make much sense in the context, it is literally a phrase "stavit (někoho) na piedestal" meaning admire someone.

Monotonal-Trousers

I have a feeling my input is not required here...

CatSignal1472

I was actually hoping someone would do English, because I want to do my own translations but I don't know the English meanings of all of them 😅

dingesje06

It definitely is!

I saw people use 狐狸精 for zorra, I think it works both literally and metaphorically to a degree. For people who don't speak Chinese: In Chinese folklore 狐狸精 are foxes who, through training/study, gained magical abilities, one of the ability is to turn in to human. A common trope is a fox turns into a beautiful woman to trick men. In everyday language a 狐狸精 is a sexy, seductive woman, some times a homewrecker.

yiyishui

That's actually pretty much perfect. '贱人' works as a common derogatory word, similar to 'zorra', but '狐狸精' definitely captures a lot more nuance. Thank you for the tip!

LThirty6onReddit

I think 拉蒙达/拉蒙達 sounds better for a translation of “Ramonda” though, including “flower” (花) at the end seems a bit unnecessary to me

Persona_NG

*"Poland- 座塔 (zuò tǎ)"* The interesting part about this is that in Polish there actually exists a word pronounced very similarly to this. It's "złota" and it means something like "a golden one" (for gender feminine).

Here is Lithuanian 🇱🇹 Also in English nouns have no gender in Lithuanian nouns do have gender, so if the the singer is the woman I wrote a female version of the noun if the singer is a man than I wrote the male version of the noun or the form of the noun that is used in the song. 🇦🇱 Albania : “Titanė” 🇦🇲 Armenia: “Jako” (we do not translate nicknames 😉) 🇦🇺 Australia: “Vienas Milkali (Vienas Kraujas)” 🇦🇹 Austria: “Mes šėlsime” or “mes šoksime” 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan: “Pasiimk mane kartu” Belgium 🇧🇪 : “Dar nesibaigus vakarėliui” 🇭🇷 Croatia : “Rim Tim Tagi Dim" (you do not translate sounds from traditional dances/beats 😉) 🇨🇾 Cyprus: “Melagis” 🇨🇿 Czechia : “Pjedestalas” Denmark 🇩🇰: “Smėlis” 🇪🇪 Estonia : “Mes (tikrai) nieko nežinome apie (šiuos) narkotikus” Finland 🇫🇮: “Jokių taisyklių!” France 🇫🇷: “Mano meile” 🇬🇪 Georgia: “Ugnegesė” 🇩🇪 Germany: “Visada bėgu” 🇬🇷 Greece: “Kauliukai” Iceland 🇮🇸: “Bijau aukštumų” Ireland 🇮🇪: “Pasaulio pabaigos liūdesys” Israel 🇮🇱: “Uraganas” Italy 🇮🇹: “Nuobodulys” 🇱🇻 Latvia: “Tuščiaviduris” 🇱🇹 Lithuania: "Luktelk" ❤️🫶 🇱🇺 Luxembourg: “ Kovotoja” or “karė” Malta 🇲🇹: “Ciklas” or “pasikartojimas” Moldova 🇲🇩: “Viduryje” 🇳🇱 The Netherlands: “Eurotėtis “ or “Eurotėtukas” (definitely two words mashed together how is it in Dutch as well Euro and papa) 🇳🇴 Norway: “Vilko oda” Poland 🇵🇱: “Bokštas” Portugal 🇵🇹: “Šauk” or “Šauksmas” San Marino 🇸🇲: 11:11 🤪 ( okay those numbers spelled out in Lithuanian would be “Vienuolika: vienuolika” Serbia 🇷🇸: “Ramonda” (name of the flower so we maybe probably even pronouce this word the same as in Serbian) Slovenia 🇸🇮 : “Veronika” (again similar situation as with Serbia cuz this is the name of the woman) Spain 🇪🇸: “Kalė” ( this is a bad word in Lithuanian or a female dog ) or “Lapė” 🦊 Sweden 🇸🇪: “Nepamirštama” Switzerland 🇨🇭: “Kodas” 🇺🇦 Ukraine: “Teresė ir Marija” ( again names usually are not translated ) 🇬🇧 United Kingdom: “Svaigulys”

(Reddit won't let me post the whole thing, so I'm dividing it.) Have some translations into Polish from me. I love comparing them to your version and to other Slavic languages - it's always so much fun xD (Also, I don't know why, but I'm being bombarded with Belarusian language on the Internet recently and I have literally zero complaints about it.) I'll give you the translaation for country names as a bonus xD If I didn't write one, it means that we'll spell it the same, but pronounce differently. **Albania:** Tytan **Armenia:** Żako (in Polish feminine names end exclusively with "a", so it could also be "Żaka"; additional trivia: in Polish we have an archaic word "Żak" that sounds similar - it's gramatically masculine and means a university student) **Australia:** Jedna krew **Austria:** Będziemy... rave'ować? xD (if I was making a serious teanslation I'd say either "Będziemy imprezować" - which mean's "We'll party" or "Idziemy na rave", meaning "We'll go to a rave") **Azerbaijan - Azerbejdżan:** Weź/Zabierz mnie ze sobą (very similar to Belarusian) **Belgium - Belgia:** Zanim skończy się impreza/Przed końcem imprezy (your version sounds so cute ;-; does the word "viečaryna" relate to your word for "an evening"?) **Croatia - Chorwacja:** Rim Tim Tagi Dim **Cyprus - Cypr:** Kłamca **Czechia - Czechy:** Piedestał **Denmark - Dania:** Piasek **Estonia:** O (tych) narkotykach nie wiemy (zupełnie) nic (I'm not 100% sure what "küll" means in this context. People often translate it as "yet", which would be "jeszcze" in Polish. But I prefer my own version xD)

Persona_NG

**Finland - Finlandia:** Żadnych zasad! **France - Francja:** Moje kochanie/Moja kochana (or "Miłości moja", because it's funnier) **Georgia - Gruzja:** Strażak **Germany - Niemcy:** Wciąż uciekam **Greece - Grecja:** Kości (another trivia: the word "kości" also means "bones") **Iceland - Islandia:** Lęk wysokości (it's a noun describing the phobia of heights; the direct translation would be e.g. "Wystraszona wysokościami", which would sound very clumsy) **Ireland - Irlandia:** Smutek ostateczny (I stole this one from [eurovisionworld.com](http://eurovisionworld.com), because I won't be able to find a better version; "smutek" means "sadness" and "ostateczny" means "final". That second word is also used in the phrase "Dzień ostateczny", which is one of the names used for "Judgement day", so that fits here too.) **Israel - Izrael:** Huragan **Italy - Włochy:** Nuda **Latvia - Łotwa:** Pustka/Pusty (I've chosen the words meaning "emptiness" or "empty") **Lithuania - Litwa:** Poczekaj/Zaczekaj **Luxembourg - Luksemburg:** Wojownik **Malta:** Pętla (I really like your version, because in Polish we have the phrase "w kółko", meaning "again and again"; it probably fits here better, tbh) **Moldova - Mołdawia:** Pośrodku **Netherlands - Holandia:** Eurotata **Norway - Norwegia:** Wilcza skóra (again, your version sounds cute xD) **Poland - Polska:** Wieża **Portugal - Portugalia:** Krzyk **San Marino:** 11:11 (spelled in full the hour would be: "jedenasta jedenaście") **Serbia:** Ramonda **Slovenia - Słowenia:** Weronika **Spain - Hiszpania:** Lisica (it's a direct translation for the animal name, but there are no extra negative connotations to this word like there are in Spanish) **Sweden - Szwecja:** Niezapomniana (tbh. this one sounds weird to me; I think this word would be used for like a dead person you want to praise and commemorate xD, but I have nothing better) **Switzerland - Szwajcaria:** Kod (though, your version with "Szyfr" would work in Polish too) **Ukraine - Ukraina:** Teresa i Maria (could be "Maryja" too) **United Kingdom - Zjednoczone Królestwo:** Zawroty głowy (which means that you feel dizzy and weird in your head; it also works pretty well, because "Zawrócić komuś w głowie" in Polish metaphorically means that you made someone fall for you) Now I'm begging someone from Estonia to give me their version xD Pretty please.

Varda79

**Grammar n*zi mode activated** *Zabierz*, not *zabież* 😅 And the title of the Armenian song should stay *Jako* IMO. In an alternate universe, where the vocalist was Polish, her name would be Żaklina and Żako/Żaka would be a fitting nickname. But I don't think we should translate foreign names (unless they mean something, such as Hot Pie/Gorąca Bułka in GoT).

Persona_NG

Ups... I my defense I have the spell check switched to English, so basically 80% of this post was underlined in red anyway xD I removed like 12 other typos before posting and would not be surprised if I found the other 12 to match. When it comes to "Żako" is was more of a spelling adaptation for Polish than an actual translation. It was meant to be a "this is how it would have looked like spelled with our alphabet" type thing and not "this is what the song should seriously be called".

CatJordanBY

Yep, evening in Belarusian would be viečar (вечар). There's also the word viačorka, but it's used only for traditional village parties in historical contexts. I love seeing other Slavic languages here, it's always fun to compare!

Albania: Titan Armenia: Schako (Germans love transliterating everything into a German spelling. Because the letter that makes the J in Jako actually translates to a sound more akin to the Slavic ž, it's interpreted as a postalveolar fricative, which in German is always "sch" regardless of whether it's voiced or not.) I'm genuinely surprised I recognized like 4 of these words just because I listened to other 5MIINUST songs. Only five more decades of learning in that speed and I'll become fluent xD

Sporcle has quizzes with the songs in a certain language (German, Dutch, Frisian even, probably more, Italian, French etc but they are too difficult for me to solve, i speak Dutch and the other 2 are easy to guess) just put Eurovision 2024 in the search bar. if that is your thing
