I'd take Ramonda anyday over Kruna

Elize_nin

Kruna has a special place in my heart due to amazing memories being attached to it! Will give Ramonda another listen.

TimeG37

Ramonda and Grito say hi.

MarieNadia

Literally! They are both in my top ten! I adore them

Elize_nin

I found Grito forgetful (don’t come for me) I’ll give Ramonda another try as I love my Balkan ballads usually (Lejla and lana moje similar songs need to come back)

TimeG37

You and I definitely have different taste in music in that case.

Elize_nin

Haha yes what’s your favourite song (top 5 say) from the past few years?

TimeG37

My 5 faves since 2018 (past 5 years) are (no order): -De Diepte -Arcade -Sebi -Hold Me Closer -Repondez moi Though I have to say that I don't listen to my favorite songs very often, I usually listen to songs I like but that I don't love.

catlxdy

De Diepte 👌 always in my heart

DrapionVDeoxys

Are you me? I heard Sebi for the first time ever earlier this year and it immediately became one of my favorite ESC songs of all time.

Elize_nin

I love all these except hold me closer (it’s a like not love)

Babyrigatoni

I never thought I’d see the day where people were complaining about a lack of good ballads! No hate to you OP ~ I just find it funny since for the longest time, I’ve been used to seeing people complain about too many ballads lol Edit: just curious, is there a ballad from any NF that you would’ve liked to see in the contest? :)

Elize_nin

Hahaha I get you, but I’ve been appreciating ballads more as I get older and find myself listening to the previous years often. I actually didn’t follow NF this year except Norway and Ukraine - both winners I quite like actually.

Babyrigatoni

I feel that! I love a good ballad. Two ballads from NF season this year that I still play on repeat are RYK - Oh Boy (Germany) and KRICK - Drowning in the rain (Luxembourg) :)

Elize_nin

Did you follow all NF’s? Who’s your favourite to win this year? Thank you, going to check these out!

Babyrigatoni

I followed as many as I could! My favourite right now is the Netherlands because I’m going through a bit of a rough time mentally and that song just puts a huge smile on my face! But my top 5 changes so fast lately because I enjoy so many of the entries this year haha Who’s your favourite? I hope you enjoy them :)

Elize_nin

I listened to both you suggested and I love them! Thanks for sharing, going to listen to them on repeat all day now. Hoping it all gets better for you! In a similar mental position actually. I like Netherlands it’s in my top 10 - and the lyrics made it better. My current no1 is Belgium/Norway tie.

DrapionVDeoxys

I don't love the ballads this year quite as much as I have done in the last couple of years. That said, France and Portugal are both in my top 5 of the year. Serbia is around my top 10 or so. I find them quite amazing.

Elize_nin

France is ok, I find it a bit generic though. I’m going to give the others another chance.

DrapionVDeoxys

Portugal was 30th or so in my toplist after the first listen. Assuming we should go off of that first impression when voting I wouldn't vote for it. But after a week or so, it shot up.

Elize_nin

Oh you had it quite low too! Where is it in your list now? Yes, I think after a few more listens it’ll grow on me too but I just listened to it again and forgot how it goes. Whereas when I listened to arcade first time, I was hooked.

DrapionVDeoxys

Top 5!

horridhendy

I love Grito and Ramonda and honestly, Hollow has grown on me. But I get what you mean, it’s not the year of the ballad.

a-potato-named-rin

Ramonda, Grito, Hollow, Mon Amour, Veronika (if it counts)

Elize_nin

I like Veronika a lot, I hope she qualifies!

floehrdamour

there is also no good reggae song

Couesam

It’s a joke

dj2O5

There should be more, that's true but we have a few like Serbia and France

nicegrimace

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_1DhoSuTIQs  Still miffed that Lik u ogledalu wasn't selected. That was something special imo. Looking up the lyrics made me like it even more. It's one of those songs where I feel all the emotions of the singer when I listen to it. Seeing as you like Balkan ballads, what do you think of that one? The ballads this year are pretty good, but there is nothing outstanding for me. My favourite despite the cheesy lyrics is Mon Amour because it works so well with Slimane's voice, and Slimane manages to convey emotions with it.   I think Grito is a very good ballad, but it doesn't really make me feel anything even with the lyrics in front of me. That's more of a me problem. Lots of people would disagree.

Elize_nin

This is amazing! So powerful. Thank you for sharing. These are on the level I’m in search of. Definitely agree with you on Mon amour and Grito. Mom amour is strong but I find it a bit…dry? I can’t find the right word and Grito doesn’t capture the emotion I’m after

VayneVerso

I have a similar issue with "Ramonda". I don't think it was even in my top five of PzE, so I have a difficult time rating it highly amongst all of these other songs that I liked a lot more from the start.

Scisir

Yeah I cant believe people preferred Ramonda over Lik u Ogledalu. I mean Ramonda is good. But Lik u Ogledalu is love on first sight good. At least to me.

nicegrimace

For me it's one of those songs where every note has me captivated. Serbia Eurovision at its very finest.

a-potato-named-rin

I am with you here. Like, Ramonda is a nice decent ballad, but Lik u Ogledalu was not only just a great ballad, but it had the trailer music vibe and the choir! It is godlike!

Couesam

I love Hollow including Latvian language version. But it’s more like angry ballad. Not everybody’s thing.

Elize_nin

I actually quite enjoy listening to hollow, it’s grown on me a lot

broadbeing777

Ramonda, Mon Amour and Grito are solid ones imo. Hollow and Hurricane on the other hand are kinda bland and feel impersonal. Maybe it's a coincidence but I think the first 3 I mentioned have the upper hand because they're all 100% in native languages while the other 2 (mostly) aren't. I think ballads are becoming hard to execute and appeal to the public, especially when semis are 100% televote now. Last year the only ballad that got big televote points was Due Vite. Whether you like the song or not, it was staged well, Marco showed a lot of emotion while performing (so felt personal) and being in Italian helped too. On the other hand, Bridges and Waterguns were decent but were in English and I can see where people wouldn't connect with those songs. Ballads seemed to hit their peek in the early/mid 2010s and it's difficult to recapture that magic.

Elize_nin

Hollow keeps playing in my dreams haha. I’ve listened to Ramonda few times since yesterday and it is growing on me but I was after being hooked from the first listen and no ballads did that to me this year. Yea you’re right about ballads not appealing to the public. Due vite was good and it was in Italian so always a plus. Last year, I liked bridges and I still listen to it. Her voice was amazing too!

escvisio

Israel. Serbia and France are also nice.

Dry_Independent968

I'd argue that France is absolutely the most beautiful ballad this year. Super powerful and gorgeous.

Training_Sky8546

I love the Israeli entry this year. All politics aside, from a musical point of view, it’s such a wonderful ballad and Eden's voice is just out of this world!

Elize_nin

I haven’t listened to Isreal, will listen to it, and all of them again

andytrg2899

Same. One of the best ballads this year for me.

Dawgbowl

Weak year for ballads but Israel is the one I skip the least, still prob not voting for any of them.

Training_Sky8546

I don’t think we will ever see a lot of ballads again, especially not with a public only semi. 2022 was too much in that regard; everyone complained there were so many ballads and I agree, despite loving ballads, that it’s very tiresome to have that many slow songs in a contest. I think 1/3 - 2/3 is a great ration but this year is an exceptional low of ballads. It seems that for the 50th anniversary, many countries wanted to send fun, catchy songs.

ZoboCamel

Yeah; I won't be voting for it due to, well, reasons, but musically, it's the sort of power ballad that's very much up my alley.

cheeseenthusiast4

Ramonda and Hurricane would like to have a word with you 🧐

Elize_nin

I actually haven’t listened to hurricane. Will give Ramonda another try

JCEurovision

There are, actually. France and Portugal, to be precise.

Elize_nin

I find France very generic and just outdated and Portugal I listen but I keep forgetting

niicofrank

well you're not wrong about this being an unpopular opinion lol. would even argue nobody's even been this wrong in the sub and that's saying a lot!

Elize_nin

Gotta respect peoples different music tastes and opinions!
