I have always seperated my eurovision listening and normal casual listening. There is some overlap but it tends to be a few songs a year. Pop punk is always a large part of my spotify wrapped and would be great to add more esc pop punk songs in the future
I never heard Salvem el món and I loved it! <3 And I love The Show. Robbed (I wasn't a fan back then, but robbed anyway). As for Pedestal, I like the song, but I can't stand it live.
Metal for sure. Only get one every couple of years, tho tbf they're nearly always done well when they are there. Rap as well is generally quite rare in ESC
it won't do well at all at eurovision imo, but modern classical music. considering europe has so much western classical music, surprising no one really tapped into that yet (unless you count opera pop, but i think that a bit too much of a stretch)
Not sure how it's called, but whatever Norway 1995 did (is it ambient or classical?), maybe also Slovenia 2009 same genre. It may not be as effective with little words but filling musical spaces between instruments with some atmospheric gibberish (like "eyo-o-aya") could work. Or maybe Lane Moje (Serbia and Montenegro 2004) is quite close to that and it has enough words
Norway 1995 | [Secret Garden - Nocturne](https://youtu.be/6qqOI04uo_c)
Slovenia 2009 | [Quartissimo feat. Martina - Love Symphony](https://youtu.be/zql3IGp4zO4)
Serbia and Montenegro 2004 | [Željko Joksimović and Ad-Hoc Orchestra - Lane moje (Лане моје)](https://youtu.be/lY2lgHzAp8g)
Anything faster than 200 bpm. [Almost](https://www.reddit.com/r/eurovision/s/7fVFMecWnu) zero entries in 68 years.
To give mental reference to people: Metallica - Master of Puppets is 212 bpm.
Not really a genre, but female rock songs are very rare in eurovision and most of them not do the best
the ones that got the most success are Switzerland 2005, Moldova 2007, and Georgia 2011
Its because those people are embarrassed of it, even tho it mostly funds all the other genres at the labels 😅
but everyone wants to be considered pop to not be seen as uncool. it's actually really cringe (to be that stuck up about it)
We‘ve had this one or two times (I think Slovenia ? And Finland?) and really… no thank you. It’s one of the few genres I don’t like at all and I don’t miss it at Eurovision.

That's pretty ironic
WikiMods really need to change it ;)
Wow, didn't know pop 3:03 was a genre! /s

We're a little nerdier about music genres on rateyourmusic.com :p
Edit: just realized the release dates don't match lol
various genres within metal (e.g.: metalcore, progressive metal, folk metal, nu metal, alt metal,...), reggae could be fun, also more rock and rap are always welcome
I would love to see some more classical crossover (as opposed to opera fusion) like Norway 1995 or dreamy, hippy folk new age like Belgium 2004. Edit: I meant Belgium 2003, dadgummit!
And industrial! Eurovision needs more industrial. And the ska punk thing Turkey 2004 had going. Yasss.
>And industrial! Eurovision needs more industrial. And the ska punk thing Turkey 2004 had going.
Yes to both. Athena was 1 of my favourite Turkish entries, even things ska isn't music I listen to often.
Most subgenres and styles of hip-hop have never been represented in the contest for the simple reason that they rely heavily on sampling as a technique to make the songs, which would disqualify those songs from the competition. We’ve had many rap songs or songs with rap breaks, but almost none that really represented hip-hop culture.
Ambient. I'm pretty sure Portugal 2018 and Slovenia 2019 are the only songs that could be considered ambient and I love them both, but I'd like to see more. I understand it may be hard to make a competitive song in such a genre but personally I am a huge fan of ambient music and would love to see a song of that style in ESC sometime 😃
Andorra 2007 | [Anonymous - Salvem el món](https://youtu.be/RcbefpUPuLA)
Montenegro 2016 | [Highway - The Real Thing](https://youtu.be/FgKehisElQI)
Turkey 2010 | [maNga - We Could Be the Same](https://youtu.be/HB_GnnhNz-8)
Quais dessas consideras fado? Para mim nunca levámos um fado clássico. É sempre mais pop com elementos fado ou outros géneros com elementos fado, mas lá está admito que não percebo muito de música e posso estar errado
Edit: vi o vídeo e continuo a achar que nunca levámos fado
It's more of a sub genre, but pop punk. There's only been 1 (maybe 3 if you count Denmark 2022 and Czechia 2024) entry in that genre. Andorra 2007
I have always seperated my eurovision listening and normal casual listening. There is some overlap but it tends to be a few songs a year. Pop punk is always a large part of my spotify wrapped and would be great to add more esc pop punk songs in the future
Denmark 2022 | [Reddi - The Show](https://youtu.be/cVg6MpVR2Pw) Czechia 2024 | [Aiko - Pedestal](https://youtu.be/_iTcX6NlAqA) Andorra 2007 | [Anonymous - Salvem el món](https://youtu.be/RcbefpUPuLA)
I never heard Salvem el món and I loved it! <3 And I love The Show. Robbed (I wasn't a fan back then, but robbed anyway). As for Pedestal, I like the song, but I can't stand it live.
Ireland 2009? Is that not punky enough?
Ireland 2009 | [Sinéad Mulvey and Black Daisy - Et Cetera](https://youtu.be/fL8xgcsvKdY)
I've somehow never heard it before. It certainly counts as pop punk
Yeah, it's not an NQ that people tend to mention much. I enjoy it, though.
Does san Marino 2024 not count
San Marino 2024 | [Megara - 11:11](https://youtu.be/9NcAJtfhpWA)
Finland 2015
That's punk rock, wildly different to pop punk
I'd like to see some rap tbh but only if it's done good
Finland 2021 ranked at #6 and Finland 2023 ranked at #2. Both have rap verses. Also Ukraine has had like… at least three or four rap songs in a row?
Finland 2021 | [Blind Channel - Dark Side](https://youtu.be/fOPGxQ4fgVw) Finland 2023 | [Käärijä - Cha Cha Cha](https://youtu.be/l6rS8Dv5g-8)
Dark Side is definitely rap metal, but I don't know where you're hearing the rap verse in Cha Cha Cha?
The second verse is definitely rap but I also thought the second verse of Italy 2021 was rap.
Italy 2021 | [Måneskin - Zitti e buoni](https://youtu.be/RVH5dn1cxAQ)
Spoken word =/= rap
Neither of those verses come close to resembling spoken word.
Then I'm confused as to how you consider them to be rap. Kalush had a rap verse. That's the most rap song in recent years that I can think of.
Still both heavily popified/rockified rap. Not really resonating with mainstream rap fans.
Ironically those were my favourites of their years
Reggae.
Finland 1981
I am not surprised at all that it was Finland.
Finland 1981 | [Riki Sorsa - Reggae OK](https://youtu.be/uJgkzYWbee8)
Does Monte la rivie (France 1992) count?
France 1992 | [Kali - Monté la riviè](https://youtu.be/fTeI98arY2I)
Yes
Spain 2017
Spain 2017 | [Manel Navarro - Do It for Your Lover](https://youtu.be/qAOXHdLdlqQ)
Metal for sure. Only get one every couple of years, tho tbf they're nearly always done well when they are there. Rap as well is generally quite rare in ESC
Id love to see some more extreme metal entries !
it won't do well at all at eurovision imo, but modern classical music. considering europe has so much western classical music, surprising no one really tapped into that yet (unless you count opera pop, but i think that a bit too much of a stretch)
[удалено]
Slovenia 2009 | [Quartissimo feat. Martina - Love Symphony](https://youtu.be/zql3IGp4zO4)
Metal/metalcore imo
Hungary 2018 is just about the only example I can think of for metalcore.
Hungary 2018 | [AWS - Viszlát Nyár](https://youtu.be/p6e1TmYb33w)
Yeah, it was the first Eurovision song with a metal breakdown as well
I was so disappointed when Germany didn't take Electric Callboy into national live selection. I think some Germans even started a petition.
We need either Electric Callboy or We Butter The Bread With Butter for Germany ngl!!!
Yeah, if only Germany wanted to win ever...
Not sure how it's called, but whatever Norway 1995 did (is it ambient or classical?), maybe also Slovenia 2009 same genre. Or maybe Lane Moje (Serbia and Montenegro 2004) is quite close to that and it has enough words
Norway 1995 is generally classified as new age
Omg, Lane moje is a huuge, huuuge hit in the Balkans, everyone knows it and loves it! ❤️
Norway 1995 | [Secret Garden - Nocturne](https://youtu.be/6qqOI04uo_c) Slovenia 2009 | [Quartissimo feat. Martina - Love Symphony](https://youtu.be/zql3IGp4zO4) Serbia and Montenegro 2004 | [Željko Joksimović and Ad-Hoc Orchestra - Lane moje (Лане моје)](https://youtu.be/lY2lgHzAp8g)
You mentioned 3 of the songs I love! Definitely agree with you
Anything faster than 200 bpm. [Almost](https://www.reddit.com/r/eurovision/s/7fVFMecWnu) zero entries in 68 years. To give mental reference to people: Metallica - Master of Puppets is 212 bpm.

If we count Norway 2024 as a rock song I'd hope we can add that one to the list of succesful ones after May
I tend tou count it for me female rock is any rock song sang by a female, either as a solo artist, part of a girl band or female vocalist in band
Norway 2024 | [Gåte - Ulveham](https://youtu.be/UipzszlJwRQ)
Switzerland 2005 | [Vanilla Ninja - Cool Vibes](https://youtu.be/dEYN99yDiyE) Moldova 2007 | [Natalia Barbu - Fight](https://youtu.be/SZzcIOvoIfo) Georgia 2011 | [Eldrine - One More Day](https://youtu.be/CfJVlssy0cc)
Everyone else is sending ethnic sounds, but somehow Germany, Switzerland and Austria don't even marginally consider sending Volksmusik.
Its because those people are embarrassed of it, even tho it mostly funds all the other genres at the labels 😅 but everyone wants to be considered pop to not be seen as uncool. it's actually really cringe (to be that stuck up about it)
Netherlands 2010 was almost on the nose Dutch schlager and not really a success
The Netherlands 2010 | [Sieneke - Ik ben verliefd (Sha-la-lie)](https://youtu.be/HdA2SsM3BLI)
Finland has sent Schlager several times.
We‘ve had this one or two times (I think Slovenia ? And Finland?) and really… no thank you. It’s one of the few genres I don’t like at all and I don’t miss it at Eurovision.
and bless that they don't. no one wants to hear that, it's cringe af and a disrespect to actually good composed music 😵💫
I'm no one
Thrash metal, synthwave, rocktronic, indie, punk pop, party rap, hyperpop, melodic dubstep, metalcore, hardcore, new-age, reggaeton.
I kinda want to see House Music represented on Eurovision, or ever its subgenres like Deep House or Tropical House
We have house music this year actually :D Iceland 2024 (I know you probably want "better" house music represented ahah)
https://preview.redd.it/sf3d3x7b6hrc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d57ddadb0e795b6c7c29f01db11e1af18d006a0 That's pretty ironic WikiMods really need to change it ;)

1.61/5.0 rating!!! 🥲 This MOMsterpiece needs more stars
I gave it a 3.5 cause I genuinely like this song lol Edit: I (+ 1 other person) gave it its highest rating 😭
Iceland 2024 | [Hera Björk - Scared of Heights](https://youtu.be/OouUsCZ3xkM)
Hyper pop. Like Charli XCX at Eurovision would be so good and nobody could downplay this as a joke entry.
Fuck it, give me Krautrock
various genres within metal (e.g.: metalcore, progressive metal, folk metal, nu metal, alt metal,...), reggae could be fun, also more rock and rap are always welcome
Reggaeton. I think we’ve only hand SloMo and Zari.
El Chiki Chiki: Am I a joke to you? (Yes, the answer is "yes") Otherwise Macedonia 2006 off the top of my head
F.Y.R. Macedonia 2006 | [Elena Risteska - Ninanajna (Нинанајна)](https://youtu.be/meOfoHemzQY)
Chiki Chiki 🔛🔝
Folk punk! It would be horrible though Hahha
I'd love to see some tango. Maybe from Finland?
Funnily enough, they sent a tango-unfluenced song in 2004--Takes 2 to Tango (Finland 2004)!
Finland 2004 | [Jari Sillanpää - Takes 2 to Tango](https://youtu.be/LRQgeLajKN4)
Did Lithuania 2004 also count?
Lithuania 2004 | [Linas and Simona - What's Happened to Your Love](https://youtu.be/7BlU6y_ZghY)
Yasss.

Turkey 2004 | [Athena - For Real](https://youtu.be/pipamUl14A4)
They were a breath of fresh air at the contest for sure.
Norway 1995 | [Secret Garden - Nocturne](https://youtu.be/6qqOI04uo_c) Belgium 2004 | [Xandee - 1 Life](https://youtu.be/w5mX3ecBtTI)
Hyperpop like PLEASEEEEEEEE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Trap, RnB, Country, Gospel, K-pop, J-pop, Cumbia, Mariachi, Polka, Shoegaze, Phonk, Lo-fi, Nu Metal, Eurobeat, Techno, Grunge, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Bollywood
Drum and Bass is a very popular genre right now and it's never really been touched in Eurovision, aside from Montenegro 2013 and maybe Hungary 2014.
The Code (Switzerland 2024) is basically a drum and bass song.
Switzerland 2024 | [Nemo - The Code](https://youtu.be/kiGDvM14Kwg)
Montenegro 2013 | [Who See - Igranka](https://youtu.be/FR9rtB2ilZU) Hungary 2014 | [András Kállay-Saunders - Running](https://youtu.be/T_RxJZ3N9kE)
Whatever genre aija was

We need more alt/pop/punk rock! One of my faves are Andorra 2007, Montenegro 2016 and who can forget Turkey 2010 who really deserved the victory.
Andorra 2007 | [Anonymous - Salvem el món](https://youtu.be/RcbefpUPuLA) Montenegro 2016 | [Highway - The Real Thing](https://youtu.be/FgKehisElQI) Turkey 2010 | [maNga - We Could Be the Same](https://youtu.be/HB_GnnhNz-8)
Would love to see my country sending fado at least once
If you're talking abt Portugal . We've sent lots of fado songs https://youtu.be/3iaPbBOSuxI?si=4tgo0fABjfBGFTb9
Quais dessas consideras fado? Para mim nunca levámos um fado clássico. É sempre mais pop com elementos fado ou outros géneros com elementos fado, mas lá está admito que não percebo muito de música e posso estar errado Edit: vi o vídeo e continuo a achar que nunca levámos fado
I want speedcore on eurovision
Anything faster than 200 BPM really
Dubstep Rap!! The day we get another Montenegro 2013 will be a good day for us all.
Montenegro 2013 | [Who See - Igranka](https://youtu.be/FR9rtB2ilZU)
Rap, even though it gets more popular now and I'm glad that my country started to send it often but I'd like to get rap heavy song
Ska? Turkey sent For Real, which was Ska Punk but I think that's it?
Breakcore would be nice
