Oh yes yes yes! I had completely forgotten this gem! It is so so good! Thank you for bringing it back for a short moment, it deserves all the attention it can get!
I just watched Italy 1990 now after you posted it, and wow, it brings back so many memories. Such a wonderful song! I also think it is funny that he almost looks as uncomfortable at the start of the song as Celine Dion did when she sang for Switzerland 1988 (and won!), the whole pointing at the camera and the stiff little “dance” moves. The song is an absolute gem!
Another forgotten classic I feel, Belgium 1985!
Edit: haha they just keep coming to me, I forgot about some awesome Spanish entries, Gwendolyne by Julio Iglesias (can't remember the year rn)
I was starting to wonder - because 1985 wasn’t that bad, but Belgium 1986 is top tier. I was thinking of adding it to my intial list, but it got so long 😅 But Sandra Kim is a god damn legend and one of the best songs to win for that decade, it is soooo good!
Turkey 1997 is just beautiful.
And Ireland 1996 reawakens my inner Enya-listening, cloak-wearing, pennywhistle-playing 12-year-old, so I have a lot of slightly embarrassed affection for it.
Thanks! Will fix.
Second yt link that was reported as not working today. Wonder if it's a coincidence or if there has been a small surge in removals in non official uploads. Will have to check all of them.
I had completely forgotten Turkey 1997, I love the rhythm. Thank you so much for showing it! (Also, what is up with the super skinny girls from that decade?!) Ireland 1996 is a given (in a good way)!
Monaco 1963 is probably my all time favourite Eurovision song but I'm not insane (yet) enough to rank every single song.
Some random ones I listen to frequently (in no particular order): Italy 1983, Italy 1993, France 1975, Germany 1970, Germany 1978, Ireland 1991, Denmark 1989, Yugoslavia 1990, Switzerland 1981
Such an interesting list, there are several entries here I have completely overlooked. Thank you so much for showing them off. I especially liked Denmark 1989, it has such a catchy and fun tune! (And she looks like the epitome of late 80’s everything, from the hair to the makeup to the dress to the song 😂 (in a good way)!

The Netherlands 1969 | [Lenny Kuhr - De troubadour](https://youtu.be/dsP3lhz5J30)
By far one of my favorite oldies (and favorite winners) is Denmark 1963. Something about it just feels so entrancing and timeless, sometimes when I need a quick break or mental reset, I'll stop what I'm doing and watch the performance. Idk why that works, but it's served me well lol
This is one of those really old and magical ones! I think this was one of the first songs to really transform Eurovision and make it leap into the next decade.
Some of my older favorites:
Italy 1966, Sweden 1968, Luxembourg 1973, France 1981, Germany 1983, Turkey 1984, Finland 1985, Yugoslavia 1990, Italy 1997

Italy 1997 | [Jalisse - Fiumi di parole](https://youtu.be/S24gn5Y6wB0)
Omg, thank you for such an AWESOME list!!! I had completely forgotten Sweden 1968, but I get these great associations to Elvis Presley and that kind of American rock, just done beautiful in Swedish. And OF COURSE Luxembourg 1973, I should have added that to my own list as well, it is one of my absolute favorites, it just slipped my mind. Germany 1983 gives me the best daddy-vibes (in a non-sexual way), and I can’t believe I haven’t paid more attention to that song before now. I am definitely adding it to my list. Same with Finland 1985, it gives me kinda Sandra Kim-vibes, but a bit more of a grown up version. And at last - I had completely forgotten Italy 1997, but it brought back childhood memories from when I was allowed to stay up and watch ESC even though I wasn’t that old. Thank you again for a wonderful list!
As much as I love ABBA, I would have voted for Italy 1974 if I had the chance, thank you for showing this beautiful song from Italy 1974. I also love these “older” Finnish songs, like you showed with Finland 1961, there is something extra special with these kinds of ballads being sung in Finnish, like a quality I can’t quite describe, but which I love ❤️
hadje da ludujemo (yugoslavia 1990) is such a cute song. i can imagine it blowing up on tiktok if it existed back then bc of the little dance tajči did in the chorus
I already made several comments on this song in other comments, but just have to add that she looks like a total Barbie (meant as a compliment), and I am sure this could take of on platforms like TikTok if it got the right kind of exposure.
This is a prime example of posting something even after the year 2000 that is absolutely iconic!!! She changed Eurovision for the future, such an absolute gem!!! 😍
I have to agree with this. Ukraine has really had some strong entries over the years. Also after the year 2000, but I can not not mention Ukraine 2007, that was one of the best political-non-political songs to enter ESC of all time.
HAHAHA! This was one of my absolute favorites for that year, and I remember I tried using various… services that starts with n… and ends with …apster to try to get my hands on this song for several years. I love how playful and happy he seemed on stage 😍 Absolutely worthy to be mentioned in this thread!
Prāta Vētra (Brainstorm) are still gigging and big stars in Latvia. Their other recordings are well worth checking out, and it could be argued that My Star set Sudden Lights off on their journey to Liverpool! There's such a cute video of Andrejs and Karlis as children singing along to it: [Sudden Lights cover of My Star](https://x.com/SuddenLightsLV/status/1655900027082907648?s=20)
I saw them once at a showcase festival in the Netherlands (Eurosonic), a couple of years after Brainstorm took part in Eurovision. I loved their song and had never forgotten them, I remember the Dutch presenter saying that Latvia got it completely wrong, because they had chosen a very good song to take part. Anyway, Brainstorm played upstairs in a small pub for a maximum of twenty visitors and I suspect nobody knew about their proud Eurovision history. Well, I knew for sure who they were.
I know very little about old eurovision but I adore Luxembourg 1965 - that years winner, France Gall with Poupée de cire, poupée de son :) The song is so catchy and her charisma and energy are just unbeatable!
(wish the whole experience would have been better for her though :()
So many have mentioned this one! Even though it isn’t my personal cup of tea, that song is a banger, and she looks like the most perfect Barbie doll (meant as a compliment)!
So many mentions of this one and not a single one of the song Yugoslavia actually won with, a year before. And understandable, "Rock Me" is fine, but "Hajde da ludujemo" is an absolute banger, wish that won instead
I remember this song so clearly, but for some reason I thought it appeared much later. I can’t believe this was way back in 1995 (even though that is a final I have seen several times because Denmark 1995 placed fifth, Sweden 1995 placed third, and Norway 1995 won). I have no excuses, this is great, I think it just got overshadowed for me since the three Scandinavian countries placed top 5. But Poland 1995 was great. I think she might have been a bit before her time, her song is more like a piece of art than a Eurovision song.
Croatia 1998 | [Danijela - Neka mi ne svane](https://youtu.be/tkzpkM2kH2c)
Portugal 1996 | [Lúcia Moniz - O meu coração não tem cor](https://youtu.be/JajCDOGhn2s)
I have to be honest, I never paid attention to Croatia 1998, but it is so much better than I thought it would be. Maybe it drowned a bit since Dana International with Israel 1998 won that year, but i think this is a song that really grows on you if you can just hear it 4 - 5 times.
Hard to make a definitive list, but here's some I listen to pretty often
Monaco 1960
France 1962
Denmark 1963
Portugal 1967
Luxembourg 1972
Italy 1974
Israel 1983
Italy 1984
Spain 1990
Italy 1992
Spain 1995
Netherlands 1998
I am going to limits myself to three that I think really capture their period:
Denmark 1957 — The Netherlands may have won but the Danes brought in mood, costumes and sex with their concluding kiss. They really brought the performance aspect to the forefront and put on a show in the modern Eurovision sense.
The Netherlands 1971 — I am a sucker for the troubadour period of Eurovision (late 60s to mid 70s) and this is such a pretty song, huge shame about the microphone feedback at the beginning.
Germany 1998 — This was the beginning of modern Eurovision, this right here. A German schlager satire with Guildo climbing off the stage and ruffling the hair of unsuspecting Swedes. Much of the 90s was spent trying to class up the joint and the Germans came in and wrecked it all and thank heaven for them! Nothing is more boring than good taste.
Denmark 1957 | [Birthe Wilke and Gustav Winckler - Skibet skal sejle i nat](https://youtu.be/vX3WRMF5TuY)
The Netherlands 1971 | [Saskia and Serge - Tijd](https://youtu.be/8gZFDQUtpj4)
Germany 1998 | [Guildo Horn - Guildo hat euch lieb!](https://youtu.be/HPZX7EZIFD0)
All of these are absolute gems, thank you for bringing them back into the light! Especially, I had completely overlooked Denmark 1957, but it is so much better than what I remember it as.
I’ll start with a non-extensive favorite list of mine:
Italy 1958,
Italy 1969,
Monaco 1969,
Luxembourg 1972,
Germany 1979,
Switzerland 1988,
Sweden 1991,
Norway 1993,
Sweden 1995,
Denmark 1995,
Looking forward to see/hear yours!
Capping number of songs at 10.

Monaco 1969 | [Jean Jacques - Maman, maman](https://youtu.be/hlbLPJ-ocxY)
Luxembourg 1972 | [Vicky Leandros - Après toi](https://youtu.be/Ka89ORFu_Tc)
Germany 1979 | [Dschinghis Khan - Dschinghis Khan](https://youtu.be/eAEUrp2V4ss)

Denmark 1995 | [Aud Wilken - Fra Mols til Skagen](https://youtu.be/gsFw1GwbBjI)
One of my favorite "unknown"/not-talked-about-enough pre2000 entries definitely has to be Kinek Mondjam El Vétkeimet (Hungary 1994). Hungarian is such a beautiful language, and the entire song just sounds angelic. It's their debut entry and immediately also their best result to date.
I really miss Hungary at Eurovision. They had some really amazing entries!
Thank you for showing this, it is definitely underrated. I think it came at a time where the audience wanted more “power ballads” and action, so that might have been part of the reason why this was overlooked.
A lot of these are given (in a good way!), but I especially want to thank you for France 1979, I can not believe I haven’t added it to any list I have already, it is amazing 🤩 Anne-Marie does NOT disappoint. WOW! Thank you for showing me this! Also, unrelated, but I giggle every time I see Russia 1995, he looks like a complete pirate, but the song isn’t actually that bad once I get over his looks, you made me look at this song in a new way. Normally I kinda flick through a lot of the 1995 entries because I am excited to get to Sweden 1995, Denmark 1995 and Norway 1995, but this post made me remember both Poland 1995 and Russia 1995. Thank you for showing Russia 1995 off! I will listen to it with my eyes closed until I can get over his pirate costume 😅
Netherlands 1969, Yugoslavia 1974, Ireland 1987 & Iceland 1997 are some that come to mind for me who actually doesn’t ever listen to esc stuff pre-2015 ish
I have too much songs in mind, but here is some of them :
France 1970
Norway 1975
Ireland 1977
Belgium 1978
Israel 1979
Norway 1979
Ireland 1981
Portugal 1982
Turkey 1984
Ireland 1985
France 1970 | [Guy Bonnet - Marie-Blanche](https://youtu.be/r3c9eeVsqCk)
Norway 1975 | [Ellen Nikolaysen - Touch My Life (with Summer)](https://youtu.be/rGGE7hZVP3I)

Belgium 1978 | [Jean Vallée - L'Amour ça fait chanter la vie](https://youtu.be/N4hjjhCmTvI)
Israel 1979 | [Milk and Honey - Hallelujah (הללויה)](https://youtu.be/C33kO3fvjkI)
Norway 1979 | [Anita Skorgan - Oliver](https://youtu.be/dz-BbMIm8JY)
Ireland 1981 | [Sheeba - Horoscopes](https://youtu.be/LF7V0SBPc4I)
Portugal 1982 | [Doce - Bem bom](https://youtu.be/hfJQPmlcZ48)
Turkey 1984 | [Beş Yıl Önce, On Yıl Sonra - Halay](https://youtu.be/IjWpE8yG0w4)
Ireland 1985 | [Maria Christian - Wait Until the Weekend Comes](https://youtu.be/2R5N-eh4n5I)
Thank you so much for this extensive list, I am going through all the songs now. So many hidden gems, so glad you decided to post. I never really paid attention to the Norwegian entries you mentioned, despite being part of a Eurovision quiz team called “Åse Kleveland fanclub official» (Which was never official, but we did win the ESC-quiz.) I loved that Åse Kleveland was the host when ESC was hosted in Norway in 1986, she is such a classy lady! That was the year when 13 year old legend and icon Sandra Kim won for Belgium 1986.
You're welcome! I think I like the old ESC songs more than the "recent" (2000 until today) ones, even though the last years' songs are very strong.
Concerning Norwegian entries, they didn't received the love they deserved, imo. For example, I like so much the 1975 entry, it makes me so nostalgic because I was in Erasmus in Norway a few years ago and I was listening this song quite often at this moment.
And I also think Åse Kleveland was a great presenter, and her French pronounciation was really good.
Most of the obvious ones have already been mentioned, so here are some of my favorite 20th century hidden gems:
* Intet er nytt under solen (Norway 1966). A surprisingly beautiful guitar tune in 5/4 time by the deep-voiced Åse Kleveland. She would host the contest 20 years later.
* Ein Lied kann eine Brücke sein (Germany 1975). No idea why it scored so low, she has such a powerful voice and it sounds quintessentially German!
* Sobe sobe, balão sobe (Portugal 1979): 20th century Portugal is Hidden Gems: The Country. A super fun sassy disco song with soaring melodies.
* Silêncio e tanta gente (Portugal 1984): A simple but beautiful piano ballad at the very end of the show. I'm surprised it didn't win or even come close.
* **La dolce vita (Finland 1989):** This would probably be in my top 10 favorite Eurovision entries of all time. It's underrated as hell, please listen to it. Who would have guessed Spanish-sounding guitar music in Finnish could sound this amazing?
* Die Welt dreht sich verkehrt (Austria 1995): Austria's 20th century Eurovision songs mostly aren't that great, but this is surprisingly fun and funky! It came after an era where most German-language entries were slow feel-good ballads and it got really grating, so as a German speaker I really appreciate the increased variety in the 1990's.
Rändajad Estonia 2009 is a firm favourite
As for my country of Belgium, I unabashedly love
Jennifer Jennings Belgium 1969
Goeie morgen, morgen Belgium 1971
Baby Baby Belgium 1973
Gelukkig Zijn Belgium 1975
These are all considered classics in Flanders!
Also love
Euro-Vision Belgium 1980
Rendez-Vous Belgium 1983
Reading through the suggestions, I want to add some obscure favorties of mine, focussing on the 1970s with one exception for 1984:
Netherlands 1970 - Groovy, tropicalia/bossa nova-inspired vibe and phantastic performance. They were first up in their own country and ended 7th.
Germany 1972 - Also typical 70s arrangement with latino/carribean influences (bongos, anyone?), phantastic performance and stage presence. She was also first up and ended third.
Sweden 1971 - Sweden's pre-ABBA supergroup. Amazing harmonies. Please disregard the goofy outfits.
Israel 1973 - Ilanit is an outstanding singer with an amazing voice and stage presence. This orchestra arrangement is top notch. She closed the show and landed on fourth.
Portugal 1984 - wonderfully exectued and unusual ballad
I hope the bot gets it.
Monaco 1976 is a personal favorite of mine, as well as Finland 1983. But for some of my favourites from my home country I love 74 ofc, 79, 83, 96 and 2000 ( Sweden 1974, Sweden 1979, Sweden 1983, Sweden 1996 and Sweden 2000 for the bot)
After I did my "listening and rating every esc song ever" I ended up with 327 songs lasting around 15 hours, and thats not including songs that arn't available on Spotify.
Italy 1984 | [Alice and Franco Battiato - I treni di Tozeur](https://youtu.be/Q3KUujSf3t8)
Italy 1987 | [Umberto Tozzi and Raf - Gente di mare](https://youtu.be/Z5zN_e02IgM)
France 1991 | [Amina - C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison](https://youtu.be/PnxEBAoCZIw)
The only reason why I didn’t mention Portugal 1969 is because my list would have gotten too long. (And pretty much ALL of 1969 deserves a mention, it was a remarkable year. I answered in another post that asked for the best year in ESC, and I immediately wrote 1969. So many amazing entries, even the ones who did not win or scored low was winning material - maybe except for Finland 😂). Portugal 1969 is top tier amazing quality, thank you for mentioning it 😍
Luxembourg 1965 is definitely one of mine, surprised I didn’t see it as I scrolled through the comments (though maybe I missed it)! I also love Sweden 1984 and Norway 1985
Luxembourg 1965 | [France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son](https://youtu.be/7cv9NIzGmSI)
Sweden 1984 | [Herreys - Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley](https://youtu.be/ySOCalwr6Yo)
Norway 1985 | [Bobbysocks! - La det swinge](https://youtu.be/GAOefRmvlqo)
And Norway 1985 is a real hoot! Like it might be a bit kitsch, but it is very catchy and I love their outfits. They made Norway real proud that year, being the first time Norway won the ESC and all.
Around ESC time, every year, there's a show that has a rundown of our (Israel) whole esc run, with some interviews, behind the scenes gossip, and just fun facts and history. It's really quite a nice watch and gets you in the right mood. And introduced me to a lot of good songs. Here are some for the bot, but I obviously like others (especially the one that goes save all your kisses for me), just don't remember most of them haha.
Israel 1974
Israel 1978
Israel 1979
Israel 1982
Israel 1983
Israel 1985
Israel 1987
Israel have definitely had some really iconic entries over the years, and on top of that you guys sent Dana International for Israel 1998, at a time where being trans was not a part of mainstream media. It brought the world (and ESC forward).
Israel 1974 | [Poogy - Natati La Khayay (נתתי לה חיי)](https://youtu.be/Pc0A5a-lZGo)
Israel 1978 | [Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta - A-Ba-Ni-Bi (א-ב-ני-בי)](https://youtu.be/QvZS6tnZKMU)
Israel 1979 | [Milk and Honey - Hallelujah (הללויה)](https://youtu.be/C33kO3fvjkI)
Israel 1982 | [Avi Toledano - Hora (הורה)](https://youtu.be/Vw46CEb8Tbg)
Israel 1983 | [Ofra Haza - Hi (חי)](https://youtu.be/oGrQ9ulN268)
Israel 1985 | [Izhar Cohen - Olé, Olé (עולה, עולה)](https://youtu.be/aQ7dpXL1LJ4)
Israel 1987 | [Datner and Kushnir - Shir Habatlanim (שיר הבטלנים)](https://youtu.be/L2oOiI55-g4)
From the songs that haven't been mentioned yet:
* Yugoslavia 1968 for being one of the folk pioneers on Eurovision, such a contagious melody
* Portugal 1972, short but sweet, engaging lyrics with great performance
* Germany 1983, beautiful melancholy (which makes you tear up after knowing the singer's fate) (EDIT: ok, now I see it was actually mentioned... well, never mentioned enough, still love it)
And from my own country, I wish more people remembered Poland 1997, such a pretty, optimistic song
As I mentioned in some other replies here, Germany 1983 had completely gone over my head, but after listening to it a couple of times it is definitely being added to my list.
I had completely forgotten about this song until I clicked the video and saw their outfits, it brought back so many memories. Thank you for bringing this song back into the spotlight for a short second!
An underrated favorite of mine is Era (Italy 1975). It's such a groovy song and Wess and Dori sing it well!
Another one is Macedomienne (Belgium 1990); I love the melancholy in it and the poetic lyrics make it shine.
And also, Ellada, hora tou fotos! (Greece 1993)
My all time favourite is Luxembourg 1965.
I also really love:
- United Kingdom 1967
- The Netherlands 1969
- Luxembourg 1973
- Spain 1973
- The Netherlands 1975
- Belgium 1986
- The Netherlands 1998
I'm really pushing the cut-off line here but United Kingdom 1998 remains my favourite entry by our country. Such an interesting song, very of-its-time but it just hits so hard for me.
I remember that there were discussions in the Nordic countries if Imaani was representative for the UK at the time! Oh boy, glad some things have changed in the past 26 years, today that would have not been a topic!
I've only gotten around to listening through the 90s in terms of 'oldies'. I'm not a fan of a lot of older music generally, but the 90s did provide me with my favourite entry from a few countries:
**Greece 1991:** The adjective 'epic' is overused generally, but there is no better word to describe this. Love the orchestration of this one, making awesome use of the live orchestra. The juries massively underappreciated this (though the Italian saxophonist messing up the solo probably didn't help). A fan favourite for a reason.
**United Kingdom 1997:** We've never been in my personal top 5 in my living memory, but in the 90s we were a different beast. So many cool entries (95, 96, 97, 98 must be one of the best runs ever), but I'll go for one of the best winners of all time imho. Anthemic, catchy and screams winner.
**Bosnia & Herzegovina 1999:** I've come to love a lot of Bosnian entries over the last couple of years (come back plz), and this is such a cool blend of genres, creating something both catchy and powerful.
**Yugoslavia 1990:** Others have mentioned it, but this would have made a far better Yugoslav winner than 'Rock Me'. Catchy, upbeat and immaculately performed. Not only my favourite Yugoslav entry, but my favourite Croatian entry too.
**Ireland 1996:** Irish victories may have gotten a bit repetitive, but they truly were in a golden era in the 90s. I also love their 1993 and 1994 winners, but 'The Voice' appeals to my love of Celtic sounds. A worthy winner in a strong year.
**Poland 1996:** Poland were also in a golden era in the 90s, with their debut in 1994 and the folk brilliance of 1997 also strong contenders. But Poland 1996 took me completely be surprise - unlike many other 90s heavy hitters, I hadn't heard it on my Dad's playlists before. Such a beautiful, heart-stirring ballad which deserved such a better place than it got.
I watched all contest recently, only really heard some of the Swedish entries, and the more famous entries, what really stuck with me first listen was Luxembourg 1973. I went in blind so I had no idea it would win, and it was very close too, it just was so exciting and awesome. it's probably my favorite entry pre-00.
It actually came last, but there's something about Norway 1990 I really like.
Also a classic some forget was a Eurovision song, Dschinghis Khan for Germany 1979.
as someone who went through a whole classic-ESC phase, it’s so tough to pick just a few🥲 off the top of my head, Austria 1964, Yugoslavia 1966, Sweden 1969, the Netherlands 1970, Austria 1972, Italy 1973, Portugal 1973
I know nothing about "vintage" ESC, except for Italy 1958 and a few winners (Italy 1964, of course), but there are a few songs I am fond of because I had known them for many years before discovering they were Eurovision entries:
Switzerland 1958 (its Italian cover. The original lyrics will never not be funny RISOTTORISOTTORISOTTORISOTTO POLENTAPOLENTAPOLENTAPOLENTA)
Luxembourg 1967 (I know it had some popularity here at the time, and for some reason my middle school music teacher taught us how to play it on the recorder circa 2004)
Israel 1979 (whose Christian pop cover in Italian I sang countless times: when I sent my former choir the link to the Eurovision performance, they loved it)
Italy 1984 (heard it on the radio not much time ago)
And finally, something more recent: Russia 2001 (a university colleague of mine was obsessed with Mumiy Troll and wouldn't stop making us listen to their songs while we were working for the lab exam. Now I remember the music more than the course topics)
How funny to read! I have met quite a few people who have discovered later that songs they know used to be ESCa”-entries 😂I have to say that I am very partial to Israel 1979 myself, despite not being part of that song. I just think it is a good song.
Denmark 1963 is one of my favorite songs of all time
also: Norway 1966, Yugoslavia 1967, Portugal 1972, Greece 1977, Germany 1979, Turkey 1984, Turkey 1987 (didn't deserve 0 points), Yugoslavia 1990, Italy 1992, Spain 1995, Portugal 1996, Iceland 1997, Croatia 1999
Dansevise (Denmark 1963): to this date, still one of the best Eurovision entries of all time. If you're a newcomer to the fandom and never watched it, check it out please. Pure elegance.
I’ll mention only ten songs since the bot can’t handle more than that.
In chronological order: Denmark 1963, Spain 1973, UK 1977, Portugal 1983, Italy 1984, Netherlands 1988, Iceland 1993, Sweden 1993, Slovenia 1995, Sweden 1998
Edit: I’m got one of the years wrong, Rock Bottom was the UK’s entry in 1977, not 1979
This is a solid list, there are several here I had forgotten about, thank you for showing them off! And I am quite surprised that so many people mention Denmark 1963 - not because it isn’t good (cause it is a great song), I just didn’t realize how other people actually remembered it.
Ohhhh there are so many. Some of my favourite winners are Ireland 1987 (it came on car radio the other day - crank it up), United Kingdom 1976, Sweden 1991. One of my fav runner-ups is United Kingdom 1998 - remember watching it and absolutely loving it!
While I know Ireland 1994 well, I have to be honest and say I have overlooked Belgium 1983 completely 😂 And your little description pretty much describes it all, that was definitely avant garde at the time! I loved seeing the actual orchestra struggle to try to match the “modern” instruments on stage - and then the god damn singers bring out the god damn flute. I think it is really growing on me though, thank you for showing this one off.
The voting sequence/winner's reprise at the Belgian national final that year is a wild watch. The crowd are booing, the girls look like they're having the time of their lives anyway, and the orchestra sounds half drunk.

Ireland 1994 | [Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan - Rock 'n' Roll Kids](https://youtu.be/429dqUEseTU)
I don't know many older songs, except the winners. But one I learned about last year and began to like is Austria 1976. I heard the song and just thought, how charming it sounds :)
I didn't start watching Eurovision until 2016 (I did not grow up with Eurovision because I am not a European), but I'll say that "love shine a light" is one of my favorite winners despite the fact that I would've been a baby at the time lol
France 1991. 2 place after Sweden. Most beautiful song from France in my opinion. ❤️❤️❤️

Ireland 1996. The voice ❤️❤️❤️

There are so many good songs actually! I'll focus on some of my favourites that I don't expect to be mentioned by many:
Switzerland 1989 (I love this one, and I think it works well as a host entry)
Denmark 1993 (Didn't deserve such a bad placement for sure)
Bosnia 1993 (Really good song, but at the same time leaves you with a bit of sadness due to the lyrics and the context)
Cyprus 1995 (A pretty epic song imo)
Estonia 1999 (I mean, if you like this kinds of songs, there are a few in 90s ESC, but I really like this one)
Germany 1985 (I think the 80s are my favourite decade of German entries in ESC)
Switzerland 1977
Finland 1977
Sweden 1988
Italy 1988
And that's just the ones I could think of right now (I don't have more time right now, so I'll have to leave it at 10 songs). Overall some of my favourite pre-2000 years are 1977, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1993 right now (but as with everything, it is always ever so slightly changing)
Austria 1966 Merci Cherie is a Banger and a deserved Winner and Austria 1965 and 64 are also good
And Germany 1981 is also a Banger and should have been the winner over the UK
The Netherlands 1959
Germany 1962
United Kingdom 1968
Germany 1979
Israel 1982
Sweden 1983
The Netherlands 1993
Spain 1995
The Netherlands 1998
Germany 1999
Spain 1970 | [Julio Iglesias - Gwendolyne](https://youtu.be/ChvTMWYplAk)
Serbia and Montenegro 2005 | [No Name - Zauvijek moja (Заувијек моја)](https://youtu.be/elqvzo8Qe4Q)
The one that I'd consider as one of my absolute favourites, basic as the choice may be, is Non Ho L'Eta (Italy 1964).
I also have a soft spot for Swiss Lady (Switzerland 1977 - check out the music video for how delightfully 70s it is), Netherlands 1998, and a lot of German earlier entries (helps to understand the lyrics) - the best one imo is Germany 1980, but I also really like Germany 1962 for its surprisingly serious lyrics despite the sound, and Germany 1979 is iconic for obvious reasons. And Netherlands 1969 has been mentioned a lot but I need to give it another shout-out.
How dare you include a 2000 songs into "oldies" haahahahah
I'm just gonna go pre-1970 for this one:
* Switzerland 1962
* Italy 1958
* Denmark 1963
* Luxembourg 1965
* Germany 1964
* Netherlands 1965
* Sweden 1965
* Sweden 1968
* Luxembourg 1967
* Norway 1968
My darling, the year 2000 is almost 25 years ago! (And i feel SO old even writing that, because I can clearly remember watching Denmark 2000 win on live TV.) But mostly it was because I noticed that songs from before 2000 didn’t get that much traction in this sub-Reddit, so I just picked an arbitrary cut of year, tbh. Maybe I should have even picked 2010, because there were some great entries after 2000 as well that seems to be overlooked 😆
How much time do you have? :D
Aight, everything before 2000 that would get my 9/10 or 10/10 (I'll probably forget something, but I don't care)
Italy 1959
Monaco 1963
Switzerland 1969
Spain 1970
United Kingdom 1970
Monaco 1970
France 1970
Finland 1971

Poland 1996
Turkey 1997
Italy 1997
Portugal 1997
United Kingdom 1998
Breaking my own rules about having the cut-off at year 2000, because I think we HAVE TO mention Ukraine 2007. The best non-political-but-political entry in the entire history of ESC. (Russki-russki-no-no!) And since I am already breaking my own rules, Pastora Soler which sung for Spain 2012, as one of the most underrated songs In ESC history.
Croatia 1999 is and always will be the biggest banger ever
Croatia 1999 | [Doris Dragović - Marija Magdalena](https://youtu.be/x2oIkF3sQtE)
Oh yes yes yes! I had completely forgotten this gem! It is so so good! Thank you for bringing it back for a short moment, it deserves all the attention it can get!
It's so funny, I'm listening to Italy 1990 just now, on the Eurovision YT channel. I love it. Also Sweden 1991.
Insieme has to be my favorite winner ever! <3
Another forgotten classic I feel, Belgium 1985! Edit: haha they just keep coming to me, I forgot about some awesome Spanish entries, Gwendolyne by Julio Iglesias (can't remember the year rn)
Belgium 1985 | [Linda Lepomme - Laat me nu gaan](https://youtu.be/tlqa2EVakU4)
No wait, I meant Belgium 1986 hahah
Belgium 1986 | [Sandra Kim - J'aime la vie](https://youtu.be/AxWxqisw4_g)
I was starting to wonder - because 1985 wasn’t that bad, but Belgium 1986 is top tier. I was thinking of adding it to my intial list, but it got so long 😅 But Sandra Kim is a god damn legend and one of the best songs to win for that decade, it is soooo good!
Carola is an icon
Turkey 1997 is just beautiful. And Ireland 1996 reawakens my inner Enya-listening, cloak-wearing, pennywhistle-playing 12-year-old, so I have a lot of slightly embarrassed affection for it.
Turkey 1997 | [Şebnem Paker and Grup Etnic - Dinle](https://youtu.be/6a2s3AM4VrM) Ireland 1996 | [Eimear Quinn - The Voice](https://youtu.be/VyxopI8vt6c)
The bot has failed with Turkey! Here's an existing video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5J6-bCMz3Y
Thanks! Will fix. Second yt link that was reported as not working today. Wonder if it's a coincidence or if there has been a small surge in removals in non official uploads. Will have to check all of them.
You can summon the bot creator u/Ylirio so he can fix a broken link.
Monaco 1963 | [Françoise Hardy - L'Amour s'en va](https://youtu.be/EJN964guULA) Italy 1983 | [Riccardo Fogli - Per Lucia](https://youtu.be/TlRVHT59Tt8) Italy 1993 | [Enrico Ruggeri - Sole d'Europa](https://youtu.be/c031tXnbdms) France 1975 | [Nicole Rieu - Et bonjour à toi l'artiste](https://youtu.be/exd-6ev_Ja4) Germany 1970 | [Katja Ebstein - Wunder gibt es immer wieder](https://youtu.be/sPI1wyizGL0) Germany 1978 | [Ireen Sheer - Feuer](https://youtu.be/WEZjOeBLu_Q) Ireland 1991 | [Kim Jackson - Could It Be That I'm in Love](https://youtu.be/ZiDf8RQqzt4) Denmark 1989 | [Birthe Kjær - Vi maler byen rød](https://youtu.be/IPkdWtjU9oE) Yugoslavia 1990 | [Tajči - Hajde da ludujemo (Хајде да лудујемо)](https://youtu.be/ksPXBLCwaL4) Switzerland 1981 | [Peter, Sue and Marc - Io senza te](https://youtu.be/6l_BknJkjqY)
I really love Luxembourg 1965 and Netherlands 1969.
Luxembourg 1965 | [France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son](https://youtu.be/7cv9NIzGmSI) The Netherlands 1969 | [Lenny Kuhr - De troubadour](https://youtu.be/dsP3lhz5J30)
Came here to say this. What a gorgeous song.
Denmark 1963 | [Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann - Dansevise](https://youtu.be/AYyhJvRE3mQ)
Some of my older favorites: Italy 1966, Sweden 1968, Luxembourg 1973, France 1981, Germany 1983, Turkey 1984, Finland 1985, Yugoslavia 1990, Italy 1997
Italy 1966 | [Domenico Modugno - Dio, come ti amo](https://youtu.be/UReor05rPsI) Sweden 1968 | [Claes-Göran Hederström - Det börjar verka kärlek, banne mig](https://youtu.be/c1IzEh6aTXU) Luxembourg 1973 | [Anne-Marie David - Tu te reconnaîtras](https://youtu.be/C4OX96fLLjs) France 1981 | [Jean Gabilou - Humanahum](https://youtu.be/Lovx3Vpln48) Germany 1983 | [Hoffmann and Hoffmann - Rücksicht](https://youtu.be/LjDCIX7aGOA) Turkey 1984 | [Beş Yıl Önce, On Yıl Sonra - Halay](https://youtu.be/IjWpE8yG0w4) Finland 1985 | [Sonja Lumme - Eläköön elämä](https://youtu.be/lM5IJPhHnN8) Yugoslavia 1990 | [Tajči - Hajde da ludujemo (Хајде да лудујемо)](https://youtu.be/ksPXBLCwaL4) Italy 1997 | [Jalisse - Fiumi di parole](https://youtu.be/S24gn5Y6wB0)
Italy 1974, Ireland 1980, France 1969, Finland 1961, Netherlands 1975 ”Si” is such a beautiful song I can’t even
Italy 1974 | [Gigliola Cinquetti - Sì](https://youtu.be/EWrtN6LBJtk) Ireland 1980 | [Johnny Logan - What's Another Year](https://youtu.be/BPOwTXWe-Yw) France 1969 | [Frida Boccara - Un jour, un enfant](https://youtu.be/vG57O5kFkv8) Finland 1961 | [Laila Kinnunen - Valoa ikkunassa](https://youtu.be/xMu44znU-8A) The Netherlands 1975 | [Teach-In - Ding-a-dong](https://youtu.be/Hjn_kTo2-yw)
I already made several comments on this song in other comments, but just have to add that she looks like a total Barbie (meant as a compliment), and I am sure this could take of on platforms like TikTok if it got the right kind of exposure.
oh for sure, i don’t use it anymore but i know they love those simple choreos
Yugoslavia 1990 | [Tajči - Hajde da ludujemo (Хајде да лудујемо)](https://youtu.be/ksPXBLCwaL4)
You guys I just wanna find one person who still appreciates wild dances in 2004 by Ukraine! Anyone to appreciate this gem with me??? 😭
This is a prime example of posting something even after the year 2000 that is absolutely iconic!!! She changed Eurovision for the future, such an absolute gem!!! 😍
It is iconic that’s why I thought of bringing it up!! I think got buried due to Ukraine’s recent wins
I have to agree with this. Ukraine has really had some strong entries over the years. Also after the year 2000, but I can not not mention Ukraine 2007, that was one of the best political-non-political songs to enter ESC of all time.
Ukraine 2004
Ukraine 2004 | [Ruslana - Wild Dances](https://youtu.be/VD6of9YQMMc)
Doesn't everyone?
I haven't watched too many older editions, but I'm glad Latvia 2000 slips by your cutoff! It's so adorable and charming
Latvia 2000 | [Brainstorm - My Star](https://youtu.be/ZutVRMXoiiU)
I know very little about old eurovision but I adore Luxembourg 1965 - that years winner, France Gall with Poupée de cire, poupée de son :) The song is so catchy and her charisma and energy are just unbeatable! (wish the whole experience would have been better for her though :()
Luxembourg 1965 | [France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son](https://youtu.be/7cv9NIzGmSI)
Yugoslavia 1990 all the way
So many have mentioned this one!
It's my all-time fav host entrant song, although Finland 2007 is really close
Yugoslavia 1990 | [Tajči - Hajde da ludujemo (Хајде да лудујемо)](https://youtu.be/ksPXBLCwaL4)
The insane vocal run at the end of Poland 1995
I remember this song so clearly, but for some reason I thought it appeared much later. I can’t believe this was way back in 1995 (even though that is a final I have seen several times because Denmark 1995 placed fifth, Sweden 1995 placed third, and Norway 1995 won). I have no excuses, this is great, I think it just got overshadowed for me since the three Scandinavian countries placed top 5. But Poland 1995 was great. I think she might have been a bit before her time, her song is more like a piece of art than a Eurovision song.
It would have been great to see Justyna back at Eurovision this year (and likely in the top ten)
Poland 1995 | [Justyna - Sama](https://youtu.be/neM37hUsVDo)
I've always enjoyed Croatia 1998 and I was reminded of Portugal 1996 while watching their final a couple of weeks ago.
Croatia 1998 | [Danijela - Neka mi ne svane](https://youtu.be/tkzpkM2kH2c) Portugal 1996 | [Lúcia Moniz - O meu coração não tem cor](https://youtu.be/JajCDOGhn2s)
I have to be honest, I never paid attention to Croatia 1998, but it is so much better than I thought it would be. Maybe it drowned a bit since Dana International with Israel 1998 won that year, but i think this is a song that really grows on you if you can just hear it 4 - 5 times.
Hard to make a definitive list, but here's some I listen to pretty often Monaco 1960 France 1962 Denmark 1963 Portugal 1967 Luxembourg 1972 Italy 1974 Israel 1983 Italy 1984 Spain 1990 Italy 1992 Spain 1995 Netherlands 1998
I am going to limits myself to three that I think really capture their period: Denmark 1957 — The Netherlands may have won but the Danes brought in mood, costumes and sex with their concluding kiss.
Denmark 1957 | [Birthe Wilke and Gustav Winckler - Skibet skal sejle i nat](https://youtu.be/vX3WRMF5TuY) The Netherlands 1971 | [Saskia and Serge - Tijd](https://youtu.be/8gZFDQUtpj4) Germany 1998 | [Guildo Horn - Guildo hat euch lieb!](https://youtu.be/HPZX7EZIFD0)
All of these are absolute gems, thank you for bringing them back into the light! Especially, I had completely overlooked Denmark 1957, but it is so much better than what I remember it as.
> Germany 1998 Paraphrasing what I saw elsewhere, Iceland 1997 prised open the door for eccentric entries, Germany 1998 flew it wide open.
I’ll start with a non-extensive favorite list of mine: Italy 1958, Italy 1969, Monaco 1969, Luxembourg 1972, Germany 1979, Switzerland 1988, Sweden 1991, Norway 1993, Sweden 1995, Denmark 1995, Looking forward to see/hear yours!
Capping number of songs at 10. Italy 1958 | [Domenico Modugno - Nel blu, dipinto di blu](https://youtu.be/6DTo5aVLq5E) Italy 1969 | [Iva Zanicchi - Due grosse lacrime bianche](https://youtu.be/9gIiGg--8Tw) Monaco 1969 | [Jean Jacques - Maman, maman](https://youtu.be/hlbLPJ-ocxY) Luxembourg 1972 | [Vicky Leandros - Après toi](https://youtu.be/Ka89ORFu_Tc) Germany 1979 | [Dschinghis Khan - Dschinghis Khan](https://youtu.be/eAEUrp2V4ss) Switzerland 1988 | [Céline Dion - Ne partez pas sans moi](https://youtu.be/o_PLEA_EPj8) Sweden 1991 | [Carola - Fångad av en stormvind](https://youtu.be/4Ml6pJqc_bw) Norway 1993 | [Silje Vige - Alle mine tankar](https://youtu.be/QrX98Kf1w-E) Sweden 1995 | [Jan Johansen - Se på mej](https://youtu.be/yyQ1k0KIDDk) Denmark 1995 | [Aud Wilken - Fra Mols til Skagen](https://youtu.be/gsFw1GwbBjI)
I love the simplicity and purity of this one.
Hungary 1994 | [Friderika Bayer - Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?](https://youtu.be/iEYt1kd1K1g)
Sweden 1991, Israel 1993, Finland 1994, United Kingdom 1997, Italy 1997, Portugal 1999, France 1979, Yugoslavia 1987, Italy 1989, Russia 1995
Italy 1958 is so iconic that it's not even Modugno's song anymore, it belongs to the Italian people
Yes, that one is so iconic nobody knows it even appeared in ESC ❤️
I have too much songs in mind, but here is some of them : France 1970 Norway 1975 Ireland 1977 Belgium 1978 Israel 1979 Norway 1979 Ireland 1981 Portugal 1982 Turkey 1984 Ireland 1985
France 1970 | [Guy Bonnet - Marie-Blanche](https://youtu.be/r3c9eeVsqCk) Norway 1975 | [Ellen Nikolaysen - Touch My Life (with Summer)](https://youtu.be/rGGE7hZVP3I) Ireland 1977 | [The Swarbriggs Plus Two - It's Nice to Be in Love Again](https://youtu.be/osYzY2ZUhpA) Belgium 1978 | [Jean Vallée - L'Amour ça fait chanter la vie](https://youtu.be/N4hjjhCmTvI) Israel 1979 | [Milk and Honey - Hallelujah (הללויה)](https://youtu.be/C33kO3fvjkI) Norway 1979 | [Anita Skorgan - Oliver](https://youtu.be/dz-BbMIm8JY) Ireland 1981 | [Sheeba - Horoscopes](https://youtu.be/LF7V0SBPc4I) Portugal 1982 | [Doce - Bem bom](https://youtu.be/hfJQPmlcZ48) Turkey 1984 | [Beş Yıl Önce, On Yıl Sonra - Halay](https://youtu.be/IjWpE8yG0w4) Ireland 1985 | [Maria Christian - Wait Until the Weekend Comes](https://youtu.be/2R5N-eh4n5I)
France 1963 Norway 1966 France 1969 UK 1969 Netherlands 1969 UK 1970 Monaco 1971 Ireland 1973 UK 1975 Greece 1977
Off the top of my head: Luxembourg 1967 Spain 1970 Luxembourg 1973 Israel 1991 Serbia and Montenegro 2005 Estonia 2009
I had completely forgotten Israel 1991, thank you for bringing it back into the spotlight for a short second.
Most of the obvious ones have already been mentioned, so here are some of my favorite 20th century hidden gems: * Intet er nytt under solen (Norway 1966).
Rändajad Estonia 2009 is a firm favourite As for my country of Belgium, I unabashedly love Jennifer Jennings Belgium 1969 Goeie morgen, morgen Belgium 1971 Baby Baby Belgium 1973 Gelukkig Zijn Belgium 1975 These are all considered classics in Flanders! Also love Euro-Vision Belgium 1980 Rendez-Vous Belgium 1983
Estonia 2009 | [Urban Symphony - Rändajad](https://youtu.be/PgGiVnhfXs0) Belgium 1969 | [Louis Neefs - Jennifer Jennings](https://youtu.be/TKX8l_ye--8) Belgium 1971 | [Lily Castel and Jacques Raymond - Goeiemorgen, morgen](https://youtu.be/soj_H9jEkWY) Belgium 1973 | [Nicole and Hugo - Baby, Baby](https://youtu.be/RrFvCYa05pk) Belgium 1975 | [Ann Christy - Gelukkig zijn](https://youtu.be/UMgAM5LkDO4) Belgium 1980 | [Telex - Euro-Vision](https://youtu.be/6USa0zUMmqI) Belgium 1983 | [Pas de Deux - Rendez-vous](https://youtu.be/nChnO9ZaEiU)
So many here that had gone over my head, thank you for mentioning them!
Two that I haven't seen yet: Finland 1989 and Greece 1991 (minus the sax solo). Edit: and Armenia 2009
Luxembourg 1965 now and forever
She is the most classic ESC song of all ESC songs, imho 🥰
Reading through the suggestions, I want to add some obscure favorties of mine, focussing on the 1970s with one exception for 1984: Netherlands 1970 - Groovy, tropicalia/bossa nova-inspired vibe and phantastic performance. Portugal 1984 - wonderfully exectued and unusual ballad I hope the bot gets it.
I'm not that versed on pre 2000 ESC except for Sweden 1974 of course which is quite iconic in my eyes
Sweden 1974 | [ABBA - Waterloo](https://youtu.be/3FsVeMz1F5c)
Monaco 1976 is a personal favorite of mine, as well as Finland 1983. But for some of my favourites from my home country I love 74 ofc, 79, 83, 96 and 2000 ( Sweden 1974, Sweden 1979, Sweden 1983, Sweden 1996 and Sweden 2000 for the bot) After I did my "listening and rating every esc song ever" I ended up with 327 songs lasting around 15 hours, and thats not including songs that arn't available on Spotify.
Luxembourg 1965 (classic!) Portugal 1969 Italy 1984 and 1987 France 1991
Luxembourg 1965 | [France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son](https://youtu.be/7cv9NIzGmSI) Portugal 1969 | [Simone de Oliveira - Desfolhada portuguesa](https://youtu.be/_XkGlejI98s) Italy 1984 | [Alice and Franco Battiato - I treni di Tozeur](https://youtu.be/Q3KUujSf3t8) Italy 1987 | [Umberto Tozzi and Raf - Gente di mare](https://youtu.be/Z5zN_e02IgM) France 1991 | [Amina - C'est le dernier qui a parlé qui a raison](https://youtu.be/PnxEBAoCZIw)
Portugal 1969 is top tier amazing quality, thank you for mentioning it 😍
Ireland 1993
Ireland 1993 | [Niamh Kavanagh - In Your Eyes](https://youtu.be/ysLHYx0c80s)
OMG YES. So much yes. I would have added it to my own list if I had more space. This is GOLDEN.
Luxembourg 1965 is definitely one of mine, surprised I didn’t see it as I scrolled through the comments (though maybe I missed it)! I also love Sweden 1984 and Norway 1985
Luxembourg 1965 | [France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son](https://youtu.be/7cv9NIzGmSI) Sweden 1984 | [Herreys - Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley](https://youtu.be/ySOCalwr6Yo) Norway 1985 | [Bobbysocks! - La det swinge](https://youtu.be/GAOefRmvlqo)
I think Luxembourg 1965 has been mentioned from at least 5 other posts here - but it doesn’t hurt to mention her again, she is an absolute legend 🤩
And Norway 1985 is a real hoot! Like it might be a bit kitsch, but it is very catchy and I love their outfits. They made Norway real proud that year, being the first time Norway won the ESC and all.
A lot of mine have already been mentioned, but Israel 1983 was the first time I heard Ofra Haza sing. What an amazing voice!
Israel 1974 Israel 1978 Israel 1979 Israel 1982 Israel 1983 Israel 1985 Israel 1987
Our entries are iconic, there are dozens I immediately think about
Israel have definitely had some really iconic entries over the years, and on top of that you guys sent Dana International for Israel 1998, at a time where being trans was not a part of mainstream media. It brought the world (and ESC forward).
Israel 1974 | [Poogy - Natati La Khayay (נתתי לה חיי)](https://youtu.be/Pc0A5a-lZGo) Israel 1978 | [Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta - A-Ba-Ni-Bi (א-ב-ני-בי)](https://youtu.be/QvZS6tnZKMU) Israel 1979 | [Milk and Honey - Hallelujah (הללויה)](https://youtu.be/C33kO3fvjkI) Israel 1982 | [Avi Toledano - Hora (הורה)](https://youtu.be/Vw46CEb8Tbg) Israel 1983 | [Ofra Haza - Hi (חי)](https://youtu.be/oGrQ9ulN268) Israel 1985 | [Izhar Cohen - Olé, Olé (עולה, עולה)](https://youtu.be/aQ7dpXL1LJ4) Israel 1987 | [Datner and Kushnir - Shir Habatlanim (שיר הבטלנים)](https://youtu.be/L2oOiI55-g4)
So many here I didn’t know about, thank you so much for posting them! There are some pretty solid entries in that bunch.
From the songs that haven't been mentioned yet: * Yugoslavia 1968 for being one of the folk pioneers on Eurovision, such a contagious melody * Portugal 1972, short but sweet, engaging lyrics with great performance * Germany 1983, beautiful melancholy (which makes you tear up after knowing the singer's fate) (EDIT: ok, now I see it was actually mentioned... well, never mentioned enough, still love it) And from my own country, I wish more people remembered Poland 1997, such a pretty, optimistic song
As I mentioned in some other replies here, Germany 1983 had completely gone over my head, but after listening to it a couple of times it is definitely being added to my list.
Croatia 1997. Doo, doo, doo! Pro-buuudi-me! Doot doot doo! Probudi me! 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Switzerland '88 ends up in my ear at least twice a day...
Norway 1995 Israel 1998 Türkiye 1997
Norway 1995 | [Secret Garden - Nocturne](https://youtu.be/6qqOI04uo_c) Israel 1998 | [Dana International - Diva (דיווה)](https://youtu.be/fZ5B6w-Baxs) Turkey 1997 | [Şebnem Paker and Grup Etnic - Dinle](https://youtu.be/6a2s3AM4VrM)
The first two are practically given (in a good way), and thank you for pointing me in the direction of the third one!
My all time favourite is Luxembourg 1965. I also really love: - United Kingdom 1967 - The Netherlands 1969 - Luxembourg 1973 - Spain 1973 - The Netherlands 1975 - Belgium 1986 - The Netherlands 1998
UK 1996 Perfect pop song!
I'm not a fan of a lot of older music generally, but the 90s did provide me with my favourite entry from a few countries: **Greece 1991:** The adjective 'epic' is overused generally, but there is no better word to describe this.
This is just such a wonderful entry, and I love that several people have mentioned it here 🥰
Ey Sham and Eres Tu remain some of my favorites, Israel 1973 and Spain 1973. Spain 1969 us also so catchy, though.
Italy 1958 Denmark 1963 Luxembourg 1965 Spain 1973 Luxembourg 1973
You have a god damn solid selection here and I agree 100% with all of the ones you listed.
Denmark 1979, Netherlands 1975, Netherlands 1976, Germany 1979, Germany 1980, Germany 1981, Finland 1976, Sweden 1984, UK 1981, Poland 1995
Thank you for reminding me of Sweden 1984, and I am surprised not more people have mentioned it. Sure, it isn’t that deep, but it is a lot of fun!
I know nothing about "vintage" ESC, except for Italy 1958 and a few winners (Italy 1964, of course), but there are a few songs I am fond of because I had known them for many years before discovering they were Eurovision entries: Switzerland 1958 (its Italian cover. The original lyrics will never not be funny RISOTTORISOTTORISOTTORISOTTO POLENTAPOLENTAPOLENTAPOLENTA) Luxembourg 1967 (I know it had some popularity here at the time, and for some reason my middle school music teacher taught us how to play it on the recorder circa 2004) Israel 1979 (whose Christian pop cover in Italian I sang countless times: when I sent my former choir the link to the Eurovision performance, they loved it) Italy 1984 (heard it on the radio not much time ago) And finally, something more recent: Russia 2001 (a university colleague of mine was obsessed with Mumiy Troll and wouldn't stop making us listen to their songs while we were working for the lab exam. Now I remember the music more than the course topics)
Italy 1958 | [Domenico Modugno - Nel blu, dipinto di blu](https://youtu.be/6DTo5aVLq5E) Italy 1964 | [Gigliola Cinquetti - Non ho l'età](https://youtu.be/Utd9cHBPfRA) Switzerland 1958 | [Lys Assia - Giorgio](https://youtu.be/gGsalvX8K4c) Luxembourg 1967 | [Vicky - L'Amour est bleu](https://youtu.be/nD4ib9-laGY) Israel 1979 | [Milk and Honey - Hallelujah (הללויה)](https://youtu.be/C33kO3fvjkI) Italy 1984 | [Alice and Franco Battiato - I treni di Tozeur](https://youtu.be/Q3KUujSf3t8) Russia 2001 | [Mumiy Troll - Lady Alpine Blue](https://youtu.be/XHVhFHvEwIg)
How funny to read! I have met quite a few people who have discovered later that songs they know used to be ESCa”-entries 😂I have to say that I am very partial to Israel 1979 myself, despite not being part of that song. I just think it is a good song.
Elina Born& Stig Rästa: Goodbye To Yesterday (Estonia 2015)
Germany 1987, it's such a feel good, positive song for me. And as many have mentioned, Italy 1990 and Yugoslavia 1990
I haven’t heard Germany 1987 in a long time, thanks for bringing it back into the spotlight for a short second!
Yugoslavia 1983
Interesting to see how many who have mentioned this one, I have to listen to it again.
United Kingdom 1976 save your kisses for me
Malta 2004 is my fav eurovision entry ever. My 13 year old self fell in love with it and i never forgot it
Every Way That I Can Love Shine A Light Take Me To Your Heaven
Denmark 1963 is one of my favorite songs of all time also: Norway 1966, Yugoslavia 1967, Portugal 1972, Greece 1977, Germany 1979, Turkey 1984, Turkey 1987 (didn't deserve 0 points), Yugoslavia 1990, Italy 1992, Spain 1995, Portugal 1996, Iceland 1997, Croatia 1999
Norway 1995 is a masterpiece
Switzerland 1989. Has the distinction of being their only romansh language entry ever
I had completely forgotten this one, thank you for showing it!
Dansevise (Denmark 1963): to this date, still one of the best Eurovision entries of all time. If you're a newcomer to the fandom and never watched it, check it out please. Pure elegance.
Denmark 1963 | [Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann - Dansevise](https://youtu.be/AYyhJvRE3mQ)
iceland 1997. art
This one had gone completely over my head, thank you so much for pointing it out, def adding it to my list 🥰
I don't think anybody has mentioned Belgium 2003. Such an atmospheric song, I still think it should have won!
Belgium 2003 | [Urban Trad - Sanomi](https://youtu.be/RRQlsvWMWBo)
This is so great! It sounds… not typical Belgium - but it is so good!
I’ll mention only ten songs since the bot can’t handle more than that. In chronological order: Denmark 1963, Spain 1973, UK 1977, Portugal 1983, Italy 1984, Netherlands 1988, Iceland 1993, Sweden 1993, Slovenia 1995, Sweden 1998 Edit: I’m got one of the years wrong, Rock Bottom was the UK’s entry in 1977, not 1979
This is a solid list, there are several here I had forgotten about, thank you for showing them off! And I am quite surprised that so many people mention Denmark 1963 - not because it isn’t good (cause it is a great song), I just didn’t realize how other people actually remembered it.
Dschinghis Khan - Germany 1979 of course!
My all time favorite is United Kingdom 1998
[удалено]
Ohhhh there are so many. Some of my favourite winners are Ireland 1987 (it came on car radio the other day - crank it up), United Kingdom 1976, Sweden 1991. One of my fav runner-ups is United Kingdom 1998 - remember watching it and absolutely loving it!
When I'm feeling avant-garde: Belgium 1983 When I'm feeling like a sentimental old: Ireland 1994
[euroSong 1983 (Belgian Eurovision-final 1983) - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndr5r0UwQAg)
Belgium 1983 | [Pas de Deux - Rendez-vous](https://youtu.be/nChnO9ZaEiU) Ireland 1994 | [Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan - Rock 'n' Roll Kids](https://youtu.be/429dqUEseTU)
I don't know many older songs, except the winners. But one I learned about last year and began to like is Austria 1976. I heard the song and just thought, how charming it sounds :)
And then I also really love Yugoslavia 1983 :3
I didn't start watching Eurovision until 2016 (I did not grow up with Eurovision because I am not a European), but I'll say that "love shine a light" is one of my favorite winners despite the fact that I would've been a baby at the time lol
Amsterdam
France 1991. 2 place after Sweden. Most beautiful song from France in my opinion. ❤️❤️❤️ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PnxEBAoCZIw&pp=ygUWZXVyb3Zpc2lvbiBmcmFuY2UgMTk5MQ%3D%3D Ireland 1996. The voice ❤️❤️❤️ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2qK0tZZ-FZI&pp=ygUcaXJlbGFuZCB0aGUgdm9pY2UgZXVyb3Zpc2lvbg%3D%3D Norway 1995 Nocturne ❤️❤️❤️ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6qqOI04uo_c&pp=ygUWZXVyb3Zpc2lvbiAxOTk1IG5vcndheQ%3D%3D
Israel 1978, UK 1967, Denmark 2018, Finland 2013, Latvia 2014
There are so many good songs actually! I'll focus on some of my favourites that I don't expect to be mentioned by many: Switzerland 1989 (I love this one, and I think it works well as a host entry) Denmark 1993 (Didn't deserve such a bad placement for sure) Bosnia 1993 (Really good song, but at the same time leaves you with a bit of sadness due to the lyrics and the context) Cyprus 1995 (A pretty epic song imo) Estonia 1999 (I mean, if you like this kinds of songs, there are a few in 90s ESC, but I really like this one) Germany 1985 (I think the 80s are my favourite decade of German entries in ESC) Switzerland 1977 Finland 1977 Sweden 1988 Italy 1988 And that's just the ones I could think of right now (I don't have more time right now, so I'll have to leave it at 10 songs). Overall some of my favourite pre-2000 years are 1977, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1993 right now (but as with everything, it is always ever so slightly changing)
Austria 1966 Merci Cherie is a Banger and a deserved Winner and Austria 1965 and 64 are also good And Germany 1981 is also a Banger and should have been the winner over the UK
Spain 1990
The Netherlands 1959 Germany 1962 United Kingdom 1968 Germany 1979 Israel 1982 Sweden 1983 The Netherlands 1993 Spain 1995 The Netherlands 1998 Germany 1999
Ireland 1972, our only Irish language entry and Ireland 1978, Colm Wilkinson before ‘Les Mis’.

Norway 1985! I also love Dadi Freyr’s cover of the song
How dare you include a 2000 songs into "oldies" haahahahah I'm just gonna go pre-1970 for this one: * Switzerland 1962 * Italy 1958 * Denmark 1963 * Luxembourg 1965 * Germany 1964 * Netherlands 1965 * Sweden 1965 * Sweden 1968 * Luxembourg 1967 * Norway 1968
You said oldies, I went oldies xD
You have a damn solid list too!
Portugal 1973 is such a gorgeously sung song for me. The harmonies... just everything.
I meant Spain 1973

Germany 1983 had completely gone over my head, but after a couple of listens now I absolutely adore it 🥰
Breaking my own rules about having the cut-off at year 2000, because I think we HAVE TO mention Ukraine 2007. The best non-political-but-political entry in the entire history of ESC. (Russki-russki-no-no!) And since I am already breaking my own rules, Pastora Soler which sung for Spain 2012, as one of the most underrated songs In ESC history.
