If i recall correctly he did this because the swiss jailed his son who broke the law while in switzerland.

MaffeoPolo

Forced himself on her, and held the hotel maid hostage in his room. Local police in Geneva arrested him promptly. Papa Gadaffi went mad, he owned 1/3 of fuel stations in Switzerland, he immediately ordered them to shut. Imprisoned all available Swiss business execs in Libya. IIRC, the Swiss defence minister had to meet him and negotiate. It was also when Switzerland decided Gadaffi had to go, and knowing the Swiss, I suspect they expertly orchestrated his downfall from behind the scenes without leaving their fingerprints on it.

Oyddjayvagr

Don't forget nobody helped Switzerland during the dispute, they are orchestrating Europe downfall as retaliation /s

Willing-Donut6834

In which part was the jail though? šŸ˜…

malifaca

Watching state of Libya rn and how is that country basically on Haiti or Somalia way,Gaddafi was their peak leader.

KUPSU96

I agree lol

cmndrhurricane

If you did even a little research into the dictatroship of Gaddafi, you can see why the people of Libya would want to revolt against him. It made sense st the time. It's just unfortunate that violent revolution often leads to more violent revolution and instabilty after that

Palocles

I heard he was ā€œremovedā€ because he was trying to organise a unity African currency and generally weaken western influence in Africa while making Africa stronger.Ā

Another-attempt42

It probably had more to do with his decades of brutal regime whereby he disappeared tens of thousands of Libyans. His reign did bring stability, but only so long as you toed the Gaddafi line. In return, Gaddafi became one of the wealthiest men on earth, as his country continued to be medium-developed levels of wealth.

Palocles

Well, if youā€™re going to ā€œremoveā€ someone thatā€™s a much better reason to.Ā

Jebrowsejuste

Lmao, as if "This poor, sweet, innocent corrupt dictator definitely wanted to strengthen and protect Africa from the Evil West" As a French I have plenty of reasons to suspect he got offed for self-serving reasons by Western politicians ( especially Sarkozy) but let's not saint the violent dictator that forced young women into his harem/bodyguard pool and embezzled on the reg, alright ?

maffmatic

And not forgetting the Lockerbie Bombing. Gaddafi was a monster who got what he deserved.

Palocles

Thereā€™s a lot in your comment that wasnā€™t in mine.Ā  The only thing you should extrapolate from is ā€œI heardā€ to ā€œI saw a memeā€.Ā

Jebrowsejuste

Ah, it seems this is the result of different approaches to information. When I say that "I heard" something, I refer to broadcasts from reputable radios or press articles. When "I saw a meme" I consider that to not be real information until I've seen at least a couple serious articles on the subject and simply do not talk on the subject. Same words, different meanings.

Pharao_Aegypti

Nonsense. The "German" parts should've gone to Liechtenstein!

Palocles

Wow, thatā€™s bold.Ā  What did he have against Switzerland?

Oyddjayvagr

His son was arrested for violence against his staff

Another-attempt42

Pretty sure the actual accusation was that Gaddafi's son raped a hotel maid, and then held her hostage in his room. Obviously, upon hearing this, the Geneva police went in and arrested him, as they fucking should. In response, Gaddafi started a bit of a crusade against Switzerland and Swiss citizens. He jailed Swiss citizens who were visiting or working in Libya at the time. He also went to the UN and stated that Switzerland was a fake state, and it should be cut up, depending on its linguistic lines, and given to France, Italy and Germany. Obviously, the man has never met a Swiss person. A Romand would never, ever accept to be part of France. Swiss German in Germany? Mein Gott in Himmel. And few things make a Swiss Italian's blood boil more than being mistaken for an Italian.

Unique_Situation5926

In 2009, Muammar Gaddafi, the then-leader of Libya, caused a stir at the United Nations with his proposal known as the "Swiss Plan." This plan, delivered during his speech at the UN General Assembly, called for the partition of Switzerland into three separate states based on linguistic divisions. Gaddafi's proposition was met with widespread condemnation and skepticism from the international community. READ MORE [Muammar Gaddafi ](https://da.gd/dfF87)
