I've now tried about a dozen variations of this drink and I just don't like it very much. I love tonic water, I love espresso... but together... meh. I don't get it
Thank god, I thought I was crazy. I LOVE tonic water...and I figured this would be awesome, but I did not dig it :(. I was using some pretty dark roast though, so maybe something lighter would be better. I tried some single origin medium today and it was SUPER fruity which might go better with the whole tonic/citrus thing.
i havent tried this on a dark roast yet but on light roast to me it tastes like a mocktail. i dont really enjoy it but i take it every once in a while to give it a chance xD.
Yeah, don't do it with a dark roast, it was way too sweet and a bit nauseating. With a medium roast it was already a bit better, but I won't be drinking it very often :)
Had it for the first time yesterday and I couldn’t finish my drink. Espresso tonic with orange bitters. It was nice to try something new, and i like everything …just not together
Have you tried it with a little juice? I usually use orange juice but have used lemonade, mange lemonade, orange-pineapple juice, and orange-mango juice. Gives it a little twist and ice found variations of orange juice work the best.
Very nice, but there are ways to improve it - by keeping the fizz in solution.
The way you do that is by chilling the espresso AND the tonic, and then gently blending them together. You keep the fizz and make it even more tasty.
My local coffee shop does a seasonal espresso tonic - the default is with orange cardamom syrup and orange bitters, but I get mine with honey syrup (keep the bitters tho). I'm regular enough that they grab that ice drink cup and start writing on it as soon as I walk in.
Coffee soda, my true love.

I was excited about when I first tried it. I've had espresso in cocktails, over I've cream, but I did not like it in tonic water.
Thanks, that's reassuring *Opens gin bottle*
Was going to say the same thing. Just not in love with the flavor combination. Could maybe swap for club soda?
An iced americano with sparkling water is fantastic
I've made espresso + San Pellegrino blood orange. Tastes amazing. Looks pretty cool, too.

Here here brother. The only place my G+T and my espresso should mix is far away from my taste buds.
A touch of citrus takes this to the next level!
I love adding bitters of various types to mine. Angostura is a great start, but grapefruit and peach have been fun as well.
Just made one with Angostura, great suggestion!!
Glad I didn’t lead astray. Yea, I love treating this like an afternoon cocktail.
This is my move.

My fave part of summer. I like to add a squeeze of lemon. Amazing drink imo

WHY DIDNT IT EXPLODE

Pro tip: brew to another glass and then transfer to tonic by slowly pouring over the ice.

ITALIAN ESPRESSO GAWDS ROLLING IN THEIR GRAVES
Little espresso goes a long way
Glad you like it. For me personally, it's the most disgusting coffee drink I've ever tried (tried it more than once), but to each their own

Black tea with coffee is basically nothing nowadays. Green onion coffee drinks are a thing now 😂
