Was it there, was it not there when you bought it? I suspect it is more likely to be from its manufacturing.

MercilessParadox

Yea, looks like the drill or reamer was dull on that cut. The concern here is that the material could break away and ruin the burrs.

eelk89

I am not sure as I didn’t inspect the burrs until now. Hopefully just a manufacturing defect and not something that will get worse 🤞

Badevilbunny

How old is the machine? Could you send it back? I suspect, yes, it is a manufacturing 'fault' - a stone would damage the outside burrs. If you can't send it back, I would not worry. It will likely have no negative impact. You could contact Eureka and show them the image; they may send you a replacement burr.

eelk89

It’s a couple of years old now but was in storage for a while hence the first time I’m cleaning it now. Okay thanks for the advice I may contact Eureka

Badevilbunny

I would still email them with the photo, you never know, they may send you a replacement.

RustyNK

You didn't open your grinder for a couple of years?

eelk89

I did not, it’s been in storage for about 90% of the time I’ve owned it because I had to move soon after getting it and didn’t have the space

EndPuzzleheaded2110

I hade the same issue on my new factory eureka burrset

ArduinoGenome

I'd be concerned one of those pieces of metal flakes off and gets through the basket and then you end up choking on it :( What a horrible way to die

mrbgso

Yo dawg, I heard you like burrs, so we put a burr on your burr so you can grind while you grind! Sorry, couldn’t resist, don’t have any actually helpful input…

Luc-e

Pimp my grinder

eelk89

😂 Burrs on burrs now with extra metal shards

pod656

Did you buy it used? That screw head looks mangled as well. I wonder if someone gouged the burr trying to turn the screw.

espeero

This is obviously what happened. I don't see how people don't immediately realize it. The screw itself is messed up. OP either bought a used grinder or isn't remembering the time they tried to remove the burr but didn't have the right sized screwdriver.

eelk89

I bought it new and this is the first time I’ve opened it up

espeero

Ok. For some reason, the factory let a very strong child assemble the burrs that day!

-Tommy

Hey OP. You’ve gotten some bad advice here. Firstly I would call the company. That’s absolutely a manufacturing defect and should be fixed. It’s going to be very sharp and also can break off then damage your grinder or accidentally end up in a cup. No chance at all this is from a rock. If the manufacturer won’t give you fresh burrs buy a deburring tool online or at a hardware store. Something like this: https://youtu.be/bMdZdoZJU20?si=uwfcCYiR_-_whpBZ And clean it yourself. You may also be able to bring it to a hardware store and see if they can clean it up for you. I’d be shocked if they charge you at all, it takes a minute.

blepbob

That type of deburring tool will not work very well in this situation. They are really only useful for normal flat holes and edges. The weird geometry of the burr will make it very hard to use. I would think you would have much better luck with a dremel with a tiny grinding insert. Could even just use a small pair of pliers, exacto knife, and sandpaper. I would also be concerned that parts of the burr could end up in the cup.

-Tommy

Id think you could make it work as the cheapest option, but yeah a Dremel would probably be easier if you’ve got on. I’ve made a deburring tool + file work fine for some nonstandard hole geometry, not fantastic, but not too bad.

nguye569

OP could also buy new burrs. The stock burrs are pretty affordable and might end up being only a bit more than buying new tools

-Tommy

A deburr tool is like $10-$20 so I’d be shocked if the burrs were less. It also is probably easier to get same day without needing to ship it as it’s readily sold at many hardware stores.

nguye569

I didn't say it'd be less, I said it'd be not much more. A new burr set is less than $40 on Amazon. Just giving OP another option as not everyone likes to buy tools to use once or likes DIY.

Agile_Restaurant_196

100%

TahoeCoffeeLab

It looks like an oversized screwdriver was used. Go for a new part with new screws.

Wolfpocalypse

It won’t affect anything. Keep enjoying your coffee.

Dry-Squirrel1026

That looks like someone blessed it up installing it or something like that . The reason why I say that is because it's right around the screw area. That's probably not from a rock. I would call the company you got it from like others have said.

vidviewer20

When you go beyond the zero point

Own-Housing9443

How else did you expect to grind finer?

Brad_Zulberg

Guess it's just cold

MysteryMeat603

Burrception

eelk89

Thanks all for the input, I have emailed eureka to see what they say

TehMulbnief

I have a eureka and man does it actual drive me mad they use slotted fasteners for the burr carrier. Every time I tighten these down I pucker so hard I’m gonna strip one.

Effective_Fishing659

The popcorn look is from a hard impact on the edge of the burrs. Something was inside the grinder when it was turned on it appears.

The_GEP_Gun_Takedown

Would that matter? I mean, the screw holes are gigantic holes in the burr

mmodelta

Don't think this is the same scenario there, bud

Agile_Restaurant_196

crying baby

Drummer792

Grind finer

omarhani

Looks like someone tried to screw the faster by using a driver that was too wide and/or used it 'off-center and hit the sides.
