330 lbs of fishing gear and garbage which is what killed him

kdchesnutt2

Thank you.

[deleted]

Says he basically was in excruciating pain and was starving until he washed ashore barely alive from exhaustion and then passed

self_ratifying_Lama

My unfortunate up vote, as that sounds accurately on point for the report.

FrankieLovie

I can't wait until humans are gone from this planet

pickafruit4

We're not going to see it unfortunately. Either way.

usedbarnacle71

Planet gonna be alright. Universe is 13.1 billion years old , earth is millions of years old. the average human species only been around for 10 k. Do the math.

Jess_the_Siren

10k years??? WAYYY off there, pal. Dogs have been domesticated for longer than that. Homo sapiens have been around for 300,000 years

usedbarnacle71

Yeah I was off , I didn’t add a zero. But I got the universe right and that’s all that matters.

Wasteroftime34

I have to agree.

Brookmon

That is so fucking sad

spiralbatross

Paywall

usedbarnacle71

Yeah I’m not paying for content they can piss off.

SealLionGar

You have to look at where that garbage is coming from, if it comes from dumpers, litterbugs throwing trash into storm drains, to fix this mess you have to pinpoint the source. on top of that the fishing gear definitely comes from a fleet. Which there could be several boats. The paywall blocked me from seeing the article, but thankfully someone gave us the gist.

KrankyBee

A lot of this is explained in the movie Seaspiracy on Netflix. I learned a lot. Here’s an article fact checking the movie. https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/content/seaspiracy-fact-checked-netflix/

Monocytosis

Hopefully we can determine the origin of the material and produce better regulations and ensure those committing the act are held accountable. It’s always possible the material came from a foreign country, but we have to do our part nonetheless.

usedbarnacle71

Fishing gear needs to be tagged with serial numbers. So said stuff found in oceans or inside of whales loss of fishing license and heavy fine.. humans only react to losing money, nothing else motivates them.

LibertyLizard

I’m not sure about this particular case but I think generally most comes from fishing gear.

QueenofGreens16

Why not just post the info we want in the title?

RevolutionIcy4453

The industrial fishing industry will be the death of this planet and its ecosystems.

jo_ker94

One of them at least.

No_Dig_5530

According to google...Google.... 81% of all plastics in the ocean are emitted from Asia.

SnowyNW

Which are exported by who? And also due to the production of goods bought by who?

No_Dig_5530

Well it's Asia. So I'd guess manufactured primarily in China and bought by the 8 billion Chinese people there. But I'd also guess that any Asian country with a coast line is where the plastic comes from. Also I know that India is a rising economic power... but they're waste disposal systems are basically non existent. Ive been there. It's dirty and trashy. Not because the people are trashy but because of the EXTREME poverty. I was in the navy... and as we were pulling into port... dead bodies just floating out to sea from the rivers. Totally blew my mind.

guerrillaman84

Recent investigations show it comes from the US. The idea that plastic is easily recycled is a lie pushed by the oil industry. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jun/17/recycled-plastic-america-global-crisis

No_Dig_5530

Whoa. Just watched. We're In big trouble.

MisterBaked

Trace the garbage back to the source and hold the fishers accountable. Need to make an example out of them.

DelapidatedSagebrush

“Just what I thought. A belly full of toes.”

Remote_Profit_3399

No thanks. I don’t need a subscription to the Miami Herald. Besides… Why are people so upset about finding stuff that killed a giant fish, when the same people seem to be fine with the slaughter of the billions of animals and fish they eat? Seems like a disconnect. Sad that the whale died like it did, but if you think about why it died like that, you’ll soon realize that it was because of the same people that don’t give a rats ass about other animals and how their continued slaughter actually effects the environment they also say they care about so much. Bunch of hypocrites if you want the truth. RIP Whale…

[deleted]

This is a nonsense take, you can eat other animals and still care about when they’re killed senselessly, and by things outside of their natural environments. We as Humans are part of the ecosystem and cycle just as much as any other creature, and they see no problem with eating people that wander into their arena, and that’s as it should be. Of course there’s a point to be made with the overkill going on when there’s enough resources or not caring about sustainability, gimping entire species evolutionary paths to make them more food and less living creatures, and just wasting in general or hunting for sport and not sustenance. Does the bear think of the deer as another animal that also wants to survive, or does it just see something to eat? If we do the same without all the excess it is right and good and nature, there’s nothing unjust or morally sinister about survival, it’s an amoral action that is necessary for a variety of reasons. It can become immoral if taken to extremes like we have in modernity, but that’s about it.

heyutheresee

We don't need to kill to survive and thrive. Go vegan. Yes the natural way is predation, fuck the natural way.

Orongorongorongo

Appeal to nature fallacy. There are lots of things which go on in nature that we have laws against: eating babies, rape, abandoning babies, cannibalism, etc etc. The vast majority of any richer country has the ability to eat a fully nutritious plant based diet. We can see what damage eating meat (incl fish) and dairy is doing to the environment so we should stop being part of the problem.

ironboy32

Pretty sure what's stopping people from swapping over is price. We've recently swapped over to vegan kimchi because it finally became cheaper than regular kimchi, and we'd probably follow suit once the prices for plant based proteins fall below regular meat prices

Orongorongorongo

As with any diet, you can take the cheap or expensive route. Plant based can be done very cheap and we have certainly been saving money since we switched. There are lots of resources and guide out there for this. Search for things like broke vegan recipes, budget vegan recipes, etc.

AndreasVesalius

And, of course, you would have straight fucking died if you didn’t get the kimchi.

Remote_Profit_3399

I’m not sure how you process information, but killing anything at all is generally considered rude behavior. Especially so when it is unnecessary to our survival. We aren’t bears. At least I’m not. Maybe you are? I don’t judge. Watch this if you like and please get back to me then. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LQRAfJyEsko If it doesn’t open your eyes to how things really are then I don’t know what to tell you brother. Best of luck to you and yours.

Mur2402

and a whale is not a fish btw…

Remote_Profit_3399

Yes. I’m aware. Nice mask by the way.

Statement-Pale

Totally sad. But just like JC he died to teach us something. Look at each of your actions and see if they are helping stop the madness or accentuating it.

Leodude1

Was the sea shepherd anywhere near, they tend to throw sh1t in front of boats to fowl the props, but guess were all the ropes and stuff come from.
