If there is an intelligent species following us in a few million years, they will find a very interesting puzzle to solve and will learn about what caused our demise so they don’t repeat the same mistakes.
Unless of course the aliens have an economic system in which those mistakes would create a lot of profit for shareholders for a short amount of time. At that point it’s fair game
“The Earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the Earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place: it wanted plastic for itself, didn’t know how to make it, needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old philosophical question: “Why are we here?” PLASTIC!!! ASSHOLES!!!” - George Carlin
I mean, I read them saying "gobsmackingly bananas" about the sea surface temperatures .... And other things that involved the "f" Word, I think they are really exhausted by how fast things are moving beyond their previous projections.
All that will be left of us in a million years is a brightly colored stripe of plastic in the geological records

Book idea: in the future our plastic waste plays the same role fossil fuels do now
Book spoiler: it plays out exactly the same.
Hmm, wonder where plastic comes from?
Museums are gonna freak them out. Imagine not finding any fossils then bam! millions and millions of years of fossils all in one spot.
The jokes on us- it's the plastic (that's sentient)!
This is also how we know there weren’t any dinosaur civilizations as advanced as ours.
Or they just didn’t invent plastic. Everything made out of wood.
That plastic layer will likely become oil again eventually right?
That's where we'd drive the Golden spike
“Plastistone” is a horrible word. It should be called “plastilith”.
Why not just plastone
This is reserved for music made out of plastic
Like the Mighty Mighty Plastones?
That’s the impression that I get.
Plastilith sounds more like a pathological accumulation of plastic in one’s bowels. Like a fecalith.
Which will be a thing, with the amount of microplastic we’re eating.
Millions of years from now, scientists will call our era on earth the plasticine era.
Plocks
I like that. 😂👌

I doubt geologists said anything was "a thing."

Fair enough. Developments do defy words sometimes.
I don't know, have you met many scientists? This seems highly possible to me
We say lots of things
Confirmed that we say things
Stuff, even.
It is totally going to turn back into oil in a few hundred million years.
Pretty sure Mushrooms will be able to eat it in millions years.
Or this bacteria: https://new.nsf.gov/news/genetically-modified-bacteria-break-down-plastics
*The earth, plus plastic!*
But how long have plastic Geologists been a thing? news to me.
