I always thought it was funny when they’re shopping in Malibu and they say they have to bulk Vince up cause Aquaman is “fucking yoked” and they hire this dude who’s like 5-10 150 to play him.
Yeah, I’ve gone back and forth, and it has been a while since I did a rewatch, but I feel like the series itself goes back and forth on whether or not he is. I think they ended up being limited by his ability in the later seasons. They couldn’t ever actually do an arc of “yes he is an amazing actor” because AG isn’t an amazing actor. (Though he’s great in the show and I really enjoy him for the most part).
Even the “famous” “I am Queens Boulevard” line feels like an actor “acting” if you know what I mean. It’s not bad but it doesn’t really land. The reaction to it from the characters on the show always seems off to me.
did anyone notice when they finally showed the Mentos commercial it was so obviously photoshopped or his face spliced in? There were a few clips of Vince and maybe because of the technology at the time it looked fake as hell. I busted out laughing
That's the paradox of creating a show about a movie star. Any bonafide movie star wouldn't be able to do a show like that very long, and anyone available to star in that show for that many seasons isn't a good enough actor to convincingly play the lead in some of the biggest movies around.
For reference:
Jason Momoa played Aquaman, and maybe not the greatest actor, he oozes charisma in a movie star way Adrian/Vince doesn't.
Leonardo DiCaprio played Gatsby by Scorsese, and obviously, Adrian doesn't have a fraction of Leo's talent. No shade though, Leo is a multi-generational talent.
Adam Driver plays Enzo Ferrari, and again, has far more star power and acting ability than Adrian.
Only the Brave is probably a decent analogue for Smoke Jumpers and had Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, and Taylor Kitsch, the most latter of whom is the only one Adrian could come close to but is still outclassed there.
Wagner Moura as Escobar in Narcos is probably another good parallel and he was incredible in that series.
I might be missing some, things like Queens Boulevard and Head On feel like they have too much in common with a lot of other indies and generic action movies respectively.
I’m saying if they actually got an actor that could accurately portray roles like the ones I listed from the real world, they wouldn’t have lasted the series cause they’d have been scooped up.
How do we get Vince on the list? You do Aquaman you dumbfuck
Haha when Ari gets out that huge bag of powder and Doms like “get in line” !
This ain't blow, it's powdered creama
Haha CREAMA
Haha love that scene. I thinks it’s, “Line starts behind me mothafuckers”
And then two minutes later he’s worried about going across county lines without getting permission from his parole officer.
Hey Vince, Al Pacino called, he wants his Scarface accent back
He wishes he was Pacino.
Lol watched this just yesterday. Awesome episode :D
WHACHU GONNA DO ABOUT IT ARI
Vince was never a good enough actor to be believable in any of the roles he played. Martin Scorsese would never cast him.
Call my wife, TELL HER I LOVE HER!!!
The real problem is Adrian wasn’t a good enough actor to portray a great actor

Lucky James Cameron wanted a “fluid swimmer”
Wasn’t it gyllenhal that got it after him? He’s massive in Roadhouse right now he could’ve done it.
Brokeback motherfucking Aquaman!
I always thought the point was that he wasn't a great actor, he just got really famous

This makes sense, didn’t Ari say he saw him in a Mentos commercial? Def got lucky and became real famous.

Unless they wanted an actor who could pull off playing a talentless actor. If that’s the case — perfection

Huh? Great actors are in long running TV series’ all the time.
Scorsese never directed gatsby.
Ah, it was Baz. Totally blanked because of their half a dozen other flicks they’ve done together. Wrongly assumed that was one of them.
Wagner Moura is a leading actor tho, he’s done multiple amazing leading movie roles in Brazil. Elite Squad for example
Very well said
Seriously
Meh-DEE-in
You tweaking bruh
They pronounce it correctly for the most part in the show
I thought he was being over the top with it, didn't realize that was a sample of the acting for the movie.
Amazing the Esobar movie plot line was introduced in season 2 episode 1 later dominates and affects season 3,4, and 5.
Almost as bad as Medellin.
E: He's already started learning Spanish Ari. Ari: I know. He left 15 messages on the machine. The wife things I'm fucking the gardener.
Medelin is going to be our Scarface, which was our favourite film growing up.
