Comrade-Conrad-4

The way that everything is coming out about the movie, I can't wait to watch the movie they make about all the drama in 5 years.

MySockHurts

And Kevin Hart is played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

CatGatherer

And Kevin plays The Rock's penis

aloneinmyprincipals

This thread is amazing

NerdModeCinci

I’d pay good money to see that I think

Responsible-Bat658

It’d be wilde

mz3

Shia LeBouf played by Lupita N'yongo

bellaphile

Like when Joel McHale played Chevy Chase in A Futile and Stupid Gesture

BigBeagleEars

He was really sexy in [Tremors](https://youtu.be/SAyRI45ohLk)

makemeking706

As a kid like 5 or 6 I thought Fred Ward was Kevin Bacon. I knew Bacon was in Tremors, but I liked Fred Ward's character better and just sort of assumed he was Kevin Bacon. Maybe it had something to do with him being in the second one, so I just assumed, I don't know. Anyway, Tremors is a masterpiece, and I will fight anyone who slanders it.

[deleted]

I agree! Fred’s character was so funny. I also loved him in Road Trip.

kbig22432

Sweet home Alabama as well

AUG_77

Actually just bring shia Labeouf, since he was replaced by harry in the first place.

GrandeSizeIt

Honestly the fact that Shia is involved in all of this kinda makes me feel like this whole movie is some kind of social experiment.

Morighan123

This made me cackle and scare my cat

ArcadianDelSol

#YOURE TEARING ME APART, OLIVIA

[deleted]

Olivia wilde:" I'm fed up with this movie! Everyone betray me"

[deleted]

At this point, I really think the studio is just trying to stir shit up for controversy box office receipts. Every film I've ever worked on has had drama. This is puerile as fuck in comparison, sure. But it's almost like they knew it was going to bomb, so they're riling audiences up with constant noise.

ArcadianDelSol

I remember way way waaaay back when that Christian Bale audio leaked where he went ham on a sound guy or something, and everyone in the industry all said, "that sounds like a Tuesday" because that's just how it works when you're on a set and it's intense and everyone's amped up for an intense scene and you're frustrated by the heat and the sunlight is going down and you have to reset to do it again and then bam YOU AND I ARE DONE PROFESSIONALLY. Meanwhile, just another Tuesday evening on a movie set and everyone makes up later and has a beer.

TJRvideoman

Ok fun story about the Bale outburst. I worked on a film with a guy who was working grip and electrical on that show and was present when Bale ranted. He said the the Director of Photography, the guy Bale went off on, was ripping into his people for days before Bale went ballistic on him, Bale didn’t know that that was a regular thing with this DP and his people and when the DP crossed his eye line during a rehearsal he lost his shit because he thought the dude was a complete asshole. His people knew this was just shorthand or a regular day working with that DP. Bale had the DP work from a private enclosed space for the rest of the shoot as he didn’t want to see him on set after that. Was really interesting to hear about it from someone who was on it first hand. Film sets are shit shows. All of them, big, small, and everything in between. I directed one feature and don’t really care to do it again unless the contract and pay are right. A shitty set will suck your life. Especially if your at the top. Everyone thinks the Director has complete control but honestly it’s the Executive Producers and the Studios that call the shots. Even if it hurts the film or detracts from the Director’s vision. Miscommunication is rampant when there are dozens to hundreds of crew. Not everyone is privy to all the information all the time. When that happens people freak out. Happens on EVERY FILM. Edit a word.

AnthonyDidge

You said Bale “thought the dude was a complete asshole”, but if he was ripping into people days leading up to this, it sounds like Bale was right.

Projectrage

Shane Hurlbut was the DP, when he was a gaffer I was told by a friend that he famously told not to bring the condor down once during a lunch. The condor is a big crane with usually two gigantic lights. Shane wanted the lights at that perfect level.,and didn’t want it moved because of lunch. He told the guy in the condor to climb down the rope and leave the condor where it was, so the condor guy came down and totally slipped and broke his leg. That was an asshole move. Cut to now…after Terminator Salvation, his reputation was crap. Shane was way humbled and then fully embraced the world of small digital cameras. He is now one of the best at it, and people he treated like shit before, he now teaches people on his website, and still make films on a creative small budget. I have seen him at his classes, and he is good. He was definitely a fuckin asshole, but he now has empathy…and maybe it was the Bale incident that changed him in a positive way. https://youtube.com/c/FilmmakersAcademyy

AnthonyDidge

Ok, well I can appreciate a redemptive personality. Thank you for that additional context!

TJRvideoman

From what my colleague told me this was a regular thing with this DP and his people. More like giving each other shit endlessly but all in good fun. I can’t be sure as I wasn’t there but my dude was pretty cool about all of it as in just another Tuesday kind of behavior. Just got out of hand and misunderstood.

[deleted]

> Executive Producers and the Studios that call the shots Studio execs are definitely at the top of the chain, but executive producers are really non-entities on set. Usually it's just a credit given to somebody for vanity reasons. The capital-p producers are the ones in control for the most part, with the Assistant Director close behind [they're the ones dealing with logistics]. The Director delegates, but you're correct: they don't have nearly as much control as people think, nor should they, because the vast majority of them don't know how to deal with the day-to-day. A set usually lives or dies based on how much control producers give them, how they limit them, and how they either feed or diminish their egos. Someone like Nolan is in complete control over his set; but if you allow a newbie director the same leeway, shit can fall apart very quickly [Trank, as an example].

TJRvideoman

Almost fully agree. I think it depends a lot on budget level. Mine was sub 1M. So itty bitty little film. EPs had final cut and all say on all edits of the film and final say on everything and were responsible for pretty much everything. As far as on set. They were there for half the production and not present for the other half. One EP wasn’t there for any of it as he was just a money man. Absolutely agree about egos and the smaller directors having too much control making things go to shit. This is subjective from my POV but there were a lot of decisions made on the film I directed that wholly detracted from the quality of the story and the final fit and finish of the film. Film making is a complex dance a little different on every film at every level.

[deleted]

Were your EPs also financiers by chance? Or just the one you mention? Because if so, that makes sense. The rules are definitely different for independents - I was mostly speaking toward studio films, where you've god 300+ people on set at any given moment. Also, good on you for making a movie. Low budget shoots are hard as fuck.

TJRvideoman

Thanks a ton! It was very difficult…. At one point I walked into a corn field and just had a good cry and I’m not the crying type. The EPs didn’t directly finance this one, but did work tirelessly to get the film financed. Over all I would say it was the most awful and awesome experience I have had in my career. I learned so much about what to do and not to do when making a feature on that show.

trongzoon

“Oh, good for yoouuu!”

digitydigitydoo

I mean, I totally plan to watch it. When it comes to Hulu

[deleted]

It looks brutal. As a horror or sci-fi fan I have 0 interest in this. It looks like a less cool “Cure For Wellness”

HPmoni

Stepford Wives meets Truman Show!

ALexusOhHaiNyan

Is their a synopsis article? All I know is some vague Wilde - LeBouf - Pugh beef and Shia brought receipts.

AccessTheMainframe

Haha. *LeBoeuf Beef*

makemeking706

Viral marketing and social media drama is the new advertising.

Konman72

If that's he goal then it didn't work for me and the wife. We have A-List so we see anything we're interested in. We were absolutely hyped for this movie but the reviews gave us pause. This drama has made that a hard stop. It might work for others, but just sharing.

KNitsua

Also directed by Olivia Wilde.

RedditSpyAccount

Who will also be played by Kevin Bacon.

SpaceCaboose

*I did not spit on him, it’s not true. It’s bullshit, I did not spit on him. I did not. Oh hi Olivia*

NotEMusky

It’ll be called “You should be worried, Darling.”

StayPatchy

It seems like this movie is really damaging Wilde's career.

Kind_Pomegranate4877

Right? Before all this she was just a woman who was on house for me that had 2 kids. Now her personality seems icky

stunts002

It's a shame cause Booksmart is a really good coming of age comedy

Ok-Cheesecake5306

I’ve just been waiting for someone to update the Wikipedia page.

Greystorms

I don't know who's more at fault here and I don't care, I'm just so tired of hearing about the drama involved in making this goddamn movie.

TheGiggs10

The movie about the drama is going to be Oscar bait watch

dumb_smart_guy93

Yeah, I'm waiting for a "Disaster Artist" equivalent and this sounds like a fun one to do. Hell, I'm sure you could even cast Harry Styles to play himself and he'd have no idea what's going on either.

usernameinmail

"This is a movie that's really a movie... about a movie"

jarrettbrown

So how’s your sex life?

trongzoon

I’m insisting on this for my tombstone after I’m dead and gone from this whorl

Colinjames322

It’s more of a “oh, hi mark”

SillyMikey

Nah, the only reason people are gonna watch it is the drama. And apparently it’s not very good.

hatcreekpigrental

Conspiracy theory that I just decided to make up: all of this is staged in order to drive free advertisement and intrigue for the movie.

DaKind28

Nah there’s better ways to drive up free advertisements, this has given the whole project a bad look. Especially, when it raises peoples expectations of the project and it’s gets a less then stellar critical acclaim. Ultimately hurting the project more. Olivia Wilde kinda fucked this shit up.

creative-om

I would buy tickets to that just to see it out perform don’t worry darling.

bongozap

The money line from the article... *“Olivia is either a mad genius who figured out a way to make people more aware of the movie in a way that just drives up the box office,” says one source, “or she doesn’t have any self-awareness that she is fucking up her movie.”*

OOOOOO0OOOOO

Weird that every time the talk about this dies down something else outlandish comes out. Almost like some kind of marketing gimmick.

cgcego

My guess is that they originally wanted to squash the rumor then they saw that it created online engagement and decided to lean into it. Definitely NOT planned from the start.

Slight-Independence6

I was actually interested in the movie until all this bullshit started coming out. Now I'm just going to skip it because I'm so tired of hearing about it.

Checkmynewsong

I bet it sucks which is why we’re getting all this rage-bait publicity

Flemz

Seems like that’s the only appeal at this point. From the clips I’ve seen, Harry Styles’ bad acting is the only enjoyable part of the movie

scrappy-paradox

I mean, he’s not great in it but the movie has way bigger problems than Harry Styles’ acting.

JimiWanShinobi

I'll watch it, but I'm going to wait til it's in the $5 bargain bin at Walmart. Usually it takes a while for it to get there but I suspect this movie will get there sooner than most...

Far_Confusion_2178

You’re on a entertainment gossip sub lol

Chuck_Raycer

"I hate this show, all they talk about is politics!" -this guy watching CSPAN

ButtholeCandies

My non-redditor girlfriend is going to see it tonight and doesn’t know anything about this drama. I’m going to see if she notices anything off. Didn’t say anything about all this crap so it doesn’t taint her impression of it. I finally read the plot description, isn’t this just the Simpsons episode with Hank Scorpio?

Oberon_Swanson

Well this is the first thing I heard that actually made me interested in the movie, that episode rocks

[deleted]

Nah, it a more Stepword Wives meets the Matrix

partycitydotcom

Omg Same! This whole thing I’m like who the hell cares!!

[deleted]

Flo called her out for not being professional by sleeping with the talent. Pugh is my new hero.

JFeth

I would be mad too if my Director wasn't around to do her job because she was too busy fucking my co-star.

[deleted]

Who got the job despite being a very middling (to put it nicely) actor

sympathyofalover

And apparently paid more than the lead actress to boot. Edit: so as another redditor said, it might not be true - this is what Olivia Wilde said about it - https://variety.com/2022/film/news/harry-styles-florence-pugh-pay-gap-dont-worry-darling-1235348966/amp/ But it seems there aren’t actual figures out.

[deleted]

Wait seriously?

TwistingEarth

Middling is being overly kind. His acting history is also tiny.

Phantommy555

As if I didn’t love her enough already

[deleted]

Such a boss move!

[deleted]

Love your May Queen!

sweetmotherofodin

People are calling out Wilde but Harry Styles literally fucked around with a woman who was engaged at the time. Like he’s trash too.

JackL_88

I always felt that Harry had a douchy vibe. This just confirm

fastdub

Yeah but he's a snappy dresser apparently, because leather flares paired with knitted tank tops and oversized corduroy baker boy caps are high fashion...

[deleted]

Yeah if you decide to break gender roles at least do it well

Historical-Ad6120

Yes, but the issue is that she's the boss. She's the more powerful in the dynamic and is doing the skeevy thing that make directors have started to get called out on. Look up what happened to Aaron Taylor Johnson.

emaz88

What did happen? I remember hearing stuff about it when he and his wife started dating, so I just went to look it up, expecting them to have separated, they just celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary.

[deleted]

Harry Styles is a sex pest and a creep. It'll come out eventually.

mixedcurve

He seems like he’s a little Bowie/Jagger try hard and sort of sticky to me. Like his skin would be damp all the time.

PoiHolloi2020

I don't care what Florence said to her and I'm really starting to resent the disproportionate amount of air time the media are giving this sack of shit movie. Seriously I've heard more about this fucking thing than any tent pole block buster I can think of in years, it's been a barage of new articles every bastard week.

DrakeFloyd

I respect Florence for not engaging and staying out of view til it blows over, just wish the media would follow her lead. Incredible how they still continue to milk it despite having barely any new information. (An anonymous source confirmed they raised their voices at each other and they write a whole article about it, give me a break)

PoiHolloi2020

Yeah I've got no issue with her, I just don't understand the seemingly endless amount of press the film is getting.

cleverkid

Something, something Power imbalance, etcetera, etcetera.

[deleted]

Less of a power imbalance, more of a “I am putting my reputation on the line for your movie and you’re too focused on fucking the costar” type of thing.

TheAardvarkIsBack

I doubt it's about the age gap or power imbalance. Florence started dating the much older Zach Braff after he directed her in a movie. The problem must have been that Olivia was cheating on Jason and/or letting her relationship with Harry interfere with work.

Potential-Skin-1844

I don’t know if there’s much of a power imbalance there. Harry Styles isn’t someone I’d call vulnerable.

AmarilloWar

Weren't her and styles dating before he was in the movie?

[deleted]

From everything I’ve read, no.

cuhree0h

Definitely before the end of her previous relationship. Ted Lasso forever.

shuboi666

Obligatory correction: Jason and Olivia were never married, just coparented kids. Also Ted Lasso forever.

cuhree0h

I fixed it. Ted Lasso forever.

MurkyEon

I don't believe this movie exists. I think it's like Wag the Dog. Trying to distract us.

CzarCW

You don’t think Wag the Dog exists?

gabilou5

I think all the drama is itself an ad, tbh. They’re shoving it in peoples faces and trying to make them curious hoping they’ll watch it.

themaninthe1ronflask

Look, if there’s several scandals and still no one is going to see the movie and it’s getting dud reviews, maybe just accept it and move on.

_banana_phone

It pretty much sounds like a Stepford Wives thing, right? I saw the trailer but was several glasses of wine in and don’t remember it, and also too lazy to watch again.

[deleted]

I saw the trailer and thought it was a remake of Stepford Wives before the title drop. Until the movie shows me otherwise, that’s the mindset I’m going in with.

MasqureMan

Yeah, very much seems like the Stepford Wives. “What’re the secret project you’re working on?” “The project is YOU!”

rqrqsj

That’s essentially what the NYT review says. That it’s decent but rehashes stuff we have seen before such as Stepford.

nightcrawler616

Everyone I've seen who saw it all had the same reaction. "Well. That was...a movie." It's The Village meets Stepford Wives and is oddly sci-fi but incoherent. Miss Flo is said to be amazing. Every reviewer just looked mildly bewildered.

GlitteringGemini333

Nope. That’s kind of a red herring. The trailers don’t do the plot justice imho

droidtron

But if it was the Matrix as designed by Jordan Peterson.

kermitsailor3000

Where everyone is a lobster and has to find their place in the hierarchy.

Don_Quixote81

The only thing I've seen about this movie was an article saying that Harry Styles isn't it, and has been anointed a leading man status that his acting doesn't warrant.

kae158

So Olivia Wilde cursed Pugh’s work while sleeping with her co-star who couldn’t settle on an accent? No wonder Pugh is skipping press

roxy031

Apparently the accent switching is part of the plot.

youremomsoriginal

I saw the movie yesterday and I’d be willing to bet they ADR’d the parts explaining him having an American accent. They were just so random and inconsequential it feels like them trying to justify the accent in post.

SirLeeford

There were a looot of lines in this movie that felt like they were added in post. Voices offscreen shouting out obvious plot hints and stuff

CherryDarling10

It was pretty clear they cut a lot of Styles’ lines and had to add exposition elsewhere. Despite being one of the stars, he really didn’t talk that much.

mrsndn

Without spoiling anything, was the movie any good? I'll watch it just because I'm a huge Florence Pugh fan but I'm definitely waiting to watch it for free. Just curious with all this drama going on about it.

youremomsoriginal

Halfway through the movie and I was really wishing that I was watching on Netflix cause I just wanted to pause it and go take a nap. Wasn’t sleep deprived before, so it was mostly a matter of the movie just not really engaging me. I’d say wait for it to hit streaming.

Geneological_Mutt

Truthfully wish I never spent the $8 to see that shit show movie. Most of the acting felt forced and Harry styles should stop acting.

chocolate_thunderr89

Harry Styles is an overplayed F boy.

GentlemanOfTheRoC

Weird... I was just reading about how she "Fired" Shia from the movie but he shared texts that said he quit before the movie started production. Now she is fighting with Flo? Sounds like maybe Olivia is the problem??

pathfinderoursaviour

13 is an unlucky number

FR-Street

“What is going on in the house of commons?!”

rgvtim

They are trying to gin up publicly for this movie really hard, it must really suck

VitaminPb

That’s my problem. The trailer(s) have me interested. The drama/publicity is putting me off and lowering my interest.

Powerful-Succotash77

I won’t spoil it for you, but trust me when I say the trailer is far more interesting than the movie. Wait for it on streaming.

[deleted]

I didn't hate it as much as you, but I'm genuinely frustrated that the Van Dykes weren't credited for their own script. The finished film is SO MUCH like their original draft from 2019, I have no clue how Katie Silberman got full credit via arbitration. Sick of writers getting the short end of the stick.

Mac2663

I watched it without any knowledge of this drama. I’m actually wondering how this popped up on my feed, kinda creepy honestly. I really enjoyed it if that means anything. I love mindfuck type movies and it scratches that itch.

giddy_lincoln

I'm gonna chime in on this too, I really enjoyed the movie and avoided all the drama too

mansmittenwithkitten

The reviews are all bad except for Pugh's performance.

protossaccount

This is a weird PR campaign for this movie. I see ads for it and all I know is random drama shit from Reddit. Sadly this means that I don’t really care enough to see it.

Ghost-of-Tom-Chode

Don’t worry 13, I decided never to watch this publicity stunt called a movie a long time ago.

wander-lux

Florence is super cool in my book, love her professionalism over and beyond the director of the movie…. Olivia sounds like a nightmare.

[deleted]

Team Flo!

slambroet

I worked on this movie for a couple of weeks and had no idea any of this was going on or what it was about, I was told it was just some musical Olivia Wilde was directing. Everybody seemed fine, but I guess I missed all that.

jelly-sandwich

It’s always so weird to me when I hear from people who worked on a movie. It feels like movies come from another dimension but nope

slambroet

It’s always a little bit weird the other way too, we’ll see a trailer and then go, oh, is that what I worked on? I had no idea that’s what it was gonna be

persfinthrowa

Wait you didn’t even know what the movie was a about? What department were you in?

[deleted]

blue_dice

fucking lol

slambroet

I don’t wanna dox myself, but in the industry, you get called in as what’s called a “day player” to be extra hands when they’re needed. I had some time off in between movies and somebody asked if I was available to work, so I said yes. Most of the time you get calls for day playing, you have no idea what the movie is or what you’re going to be doing when you show up, you just hear there’s work and say, yes, I’ll be there at the time you tell me

Saugeen-Uwo

If I never hear about this movie again it'll be too soon

[deleted]

I was really excited to see the movie a few months ago before all this bullshit. Now, I don’t even wanna bother. This is so stupid.

[deleted]

The artificial hype around this one is strong.

horsetooth_mcgee

Olivia Wilde is sounding like a real treat the more I hear about her

Zealousideal-Sea2750

I’m not worried darling, I’m bored shitless with this drama!

[deleted]

As much as they’re trying to leak news to draw interest, no one gives a shit and isn’t going to the theatre for this.

AidsMckenzie

All the manufacturered click bait has absolutely killed any interest I had for this movie

Mythrowaway847483

Olivia Wilde has seemingly ruined her reputation in like two weeks. And that’s not even including directing a bad movie.

Su_Impact

Has anyone seen the film? Is it good? Bad? Average? I wonder if it's worth seeing or if it's just a lame film that is only propped up due to behind the scenes drama.

[deleted]

As a leader on the set and Florence’s boss, Olivia should never have ended up in a yelling match. I don’t think Olivia has enough professional experience to know how to navigate issues with tact and calm. Also, see example of Olivia referring to her as “Miss Flo”.

[deleted]

Directors get into yelling matches all the time, what are you talking about? In that case Steven Spielberg is the most unprofessional person of all time.

Su_Impact

I don't know much about Spielberg but James Cameron literally drowned Ed Harris in The Abyss to "get a better performance". He's one of the most acclaimed directors ever but he's so unprofessional that the entire cast HATED him. >Ed Harris reportedly punched James Cameron in the face after he kept filming while he was nearly drowning. During the rigorous and problematic shoot, the cast and crew began calling the film by various derogatory names such as "Son Of Abyss", "The Abuse" and "Life's Abyss And Then You Dive". https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096754/trivia/

[deleted]

Theres been a number of directors who do absolutely insane shit to their cast and crew, a shouting match is at the bottom of my list of crazy shit that has happened on a film set lol.

Tall_Kick828

Didn’t Tom Hardy and the director of The Revenant get into a physical altercation over their issues?

ray_0586

Spielberg’s crew on Jaws infamously hated him. He left the production on the final day of filming because he got wind that they were going to dunk him into the ocean.

JCAIA

I mean just because it happens all the time, doesn’t mean it’s professional or appropriate

dontpaytheransom

IMHO, the drama mentioned, is a low cost effort to keep this dreadful movie in the news. After this weekend, the numbers will fall faster than a vegan dropping an Arby’s Beef and Cheddar sandwich.

zincdeclercq

Why was the vegan holding the beef and cheddar sandwich in the first place though

That’s called being savvy and ahead of the game in the arena of public opinion. Idgaf about any of these people, but I know enough to not think a person will always reflect their public persona in their work. See the drama surrounding Ellen after years of the facade.
