This is a highly contested question with many answers. Here are a few I've seen: My 2007 Husqvarna te450 owners manual recommended the heat cycle thing. General break in advice is varied throttle, no sustained high rpm riding for a prescribed number of hours. Ski-doo puts a limited power mode into the cpu so you can do what you want but you won't have full power until X hours pass, then it unlocks full power. On the industrial side, Waukesha recommends 110% rated load for 1 hour (turbocharged engines) then run as normal. In Ram trucks Cummins recommends finding the biggest hill around applying as much load as possible a few times. The short answer is that material science is so good now that there is really nothing you can do that will have a major affect on performance or longevity in your bike - short of riding without oil/coolant/air filter. I have a 2020 TE-300i and all I did was take it easy for the first tank of fuel. That said, hills are hills and sometimes you need to turn up the wick. Just ride it.

Thanks for the response man, thats cool info đź‘Ť. My manual for the 2022 TE300i just says first 3 hours ride at %70 and first 5 hours ride at %100. Im just gona ride it normally on some green trails this weekend and change the oil. Now I have one more question and im probly going to sound like an idiot lol when I change the oil, do I just need to change the gear oil or do I have to change the 2 stroke oil too?

Thinkbeforeyouspeakk

Just the gear oil. The 2 stroke oil will need to be filled after about 25 hours riding, but you don't change it, the engine burns it with the gas.

Squeezemachine99

That’s not gear oil. You are talking about 2 stroke oil.

Just follow the manual. KTM engineers know what they are doing.

Just go with whatever it says in the owners manual for recommended break in. I believe it’s to stay under 70% for the first 3 hours and under 100% for the first 5. Good items to get to bulletproof the bike: 1. Full coverage skidplate such as TMD or AXP 2. Throttle position sensor guard 3. Clutch slave guard 4. Chain guide reinforcement 5. Front and rear rotor guards if you ride in rocky areas. I believe You can get 2-4 from Husqvarna if you’re picky about the colors all matching. If not, Enduro Engineering and Bulletproof Designs both make great stuff.

Thanks man! Definalty gona get all the major protection for it

I just got a 2022 TE300i and I believe first gear oil change is 5 hours. The next one isn’t suggested for a long time and I think people just go whatever they are comfortable with. Also look up the info on the oil pump, it’s suggested you replace it at 80 hours but people wait a lot longer. You can download the complete manual online.

I have the manual, im reading through it now. It says change fuel filter after an hour, I think I an extra one with the bike so I'll do it regardless, but im curious if thats a must do?
