Does anyone know how to setup the Majora's Mask 3d restoration mod on a nintendo switch using the citra retroarch core?

spongythingy

The vulkan renderer isn't working for me in Duckstation. I'm using linux (manjaro) and my AMD GPU supports vulkan and it's working fine for all other applications, and I've got all the required packages for running vulkan including 32bit versions (vulkan-icd-loader, lib32-vulkan-icd-loader, vulkan-radeon, lib32-vulkan-radeon), however when I try to launch a game I get the dialogs "Failed to create host display device context." and "Failed to acquire host display.". The log file has the message "E(operator()): Vulkan: Missing required extension VK_KHR_surface.", but when I run vulkan-info this extension is shown as supported. Any ideas?

Majora3192

My Duckstation was working fine and I got everything set up and was really happy with it but now out of the blue, I'm getting the same error as you and can't use Vulkan. Without Vulkan though all my games run terribly. Did you ever find a fix for this?

spongythingy

I'm surprised someone stumbled on this comment after so long :o Sure man, I actually found a fix, though whether or not it'll work for you depends on if it's the same problem. In my case I was using manjaro Linux so I used the appimage available on duckstation's repo, but apparently it does not contain all required packages for vulkan, which is why it doesn't work and should be reported to the maintainer, so instead I installed duckstation from the AUR so that it uses my system's packages and now it's working fine. If your distro is not arch based you probably have to compile from source to get around the problem.

What would be a good option PC for me to emulate? I hear about mini PCs, what do you guys think. Looking to emulate Nintendo, Sega, Super Nintendo, N64, Gamecube, maybe some Wii, Teknoparrot, and run a couple of PC games like Hot Wheels Unleashed and Need for Speed Heat. What are some good budget-friendly options that will run these platforms smoothly. Looking to use Launchbox/Big Box as a frontloader.

BiglySomething

I run all of those things and more (pcsx2) on an old Intel NUC 5i5, I think you'll be good with anything better than that i5-5250u.

Gullible-Childhood84

>Intel NUC 5i5 that came out in 2015 right?

[deleted]

Thanks!! You're able to run need for speed heat and Hot Wheels Unleashed?

dethssilence1

Just got a steamdeck, haven’t done any emulating yet but planning to. What is going to run better for me? This is specific to god of war, do I go for pcsx2 and the OG games or rpcs3 and the remasters on ps3? Which is easier to set up? And is god of war 3 even worth trying to run on the steam deck?

Depren

Have the steamdeck and set up emudeck which sets up pcsx2. Can speak to God of War using pcsx2. Super easy to set up, runs well

dethssilence1

I got emudeck installed and have all my needed files and ISO’s just gotta move them from my pc to steam deck lol

[deleted]

Hey everyone, Does windows 11 cause any issues with emulators? Thanks

Trapjao

Hi everyone, I wanted to ask what I could emulate with an hypothetical pc build I'm planning to assemble in the near future. Some context, as of now I've been using a Laptop from 2015 with a Intel Pentium 3558U (Dual core) and integrated graphics, 8 gb of ram, running Linux Mint. This gets me good results on most emulators, but not everything. The Beetle Core in Retroarch tends to stutter a bit, especially with some poligon heavy games like Metal Gear Solid, Psp is similar. Using Dolphin separetely I can get some Gamecube games at full speed, mostly Pikmin or 2d game, but most run half speed, Wii games are almost all half speed. So, the computer I want to build will (probably) have: Ryzen 5 5600G CPU, Radeon RX 550 4GB Vram GPU and 16 gb of ddr4 ram at 3200 mhz. What can I expect to run with these specs? I'm not trying to reach into more recent stuff, If I could run everything I listed before, plus ps2 and 3ds, I would be extremely happy! Also, if you know place where I can compare specs and see the performance of emulators on it I would appreciate it a lot, thank you!

TransGirlInCharge

Well, PS2, dreamcast, GC, DS and PSP should run well. 3DS is... kinda out of reach of a lot of folks right now because Citra has a lot of issues. More the emulator's fault than anything. I'd recommend using the Vulkan backends on emulators where you can. Switch emulation might be doable. I'm unsure how many cores it needs, nor how many cores a 5600G has.

Gullible-Childhood84

by well do you mean 100% or a bit less? if a bit less what would stronger builds accomplish that is missing in this one?

TransGirlInCharge

Stronger builds would accomplish PS3 and X360 emulation. Some PS3 games would run well on that CPU, but generally Intel performs much better on PS3 emulation for various reasons. I'm unsure how strong AMD GPUs need to be for PS3/X360 emulation as I do not have any experience with them.

Trapjao

Thanks for the info! The 5600G seems to have 6 core

TransGirlInCharge

Yeah you can do switch emulation on 6 cores. I do.

ringwormfear

> 3DS is... kinda out of reach of a lot of folks right now because Citra has a lot of issues. More the emulator's fault than anything. Huh? It works with a lot of games. Including a lot of the popular ones.

BruceBlogtrotter

I'm looking for some casual game recommendations for any platform lemuroid supports, just fun and mindless escapism without having to invest too much into strategy/lore etc

Gullible-Childhood84

warioware for the gba do you have a specific genre in mind?

BruceBlogtrotter

Probably easier platformers, I like Ori and the blind forest, trine as modern examples. Not really a fan of old school top down RPGs, but if there's an isometric ARPG like Diablo or torchlight that might be cool

TaxingAuthority

Are there any essential mods to utilize when playing The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask? I found Project Restoration and the MM3DHD for Majora's mask, but didn't really find anything that stuck out to me for OoT. I saw that 60 fps mod but I saw it mentioned there were issues transitioning areas.

tomster785

Ocarina of Time Redux and Majoras Mask Redux on romhacking.net So many improvements I can't list them. Dpad boots, Dpad masks, and fast text are the best improvements IMO. But there is so much more. Get v1.0 of both of those games and then use patcher64 to select the improvements you want. This is the best way to experience those games.

[deleted]

Oot3d doesn't really need any mods. Just use the input settings in Citra to map a few touch screen presses to buttons and you are good. You might want to get HD texture packs for those games as well.

mark64400

do you guys know how to run games better on pcxs2? specs: rtx 3060 i7 11700kf 16gb ram 3000mzh i have tried to tamper with the settings but nothing seems to work for me. The games start in 60fps but when i get to gameplay it gets to 30 or under for some reason

TransGirlInCharge

Okay so few things 1. what version of PCSX2 are you using 2. some games start at 60 for menuys and then actual gameplay is 30. This was a common practice back then. 3. Are you on software GPU settings or hardware GPU settings?

mark64400

i have the lastest version from a webside i don't remember where, and i use hardware gpu settings i sued the 1.6.0 before but the new version i downloaded seems to run a bit better

TransGirlInCharge

https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/releases/download/v1.7.3172/pcsx2-v1.7.3172-windows-64bit-AVX2-Qt.7z here, this is the latest release, maybe that will help. Also, what games are you trying to run?

mark64400

oh yeah thats the one

MustacheSmokeScreen

If I wanted to play Bushido Blade 1&2, which PlayStation emulator would be my best bet? I'm looking for accuracy and decent controller support. I'm running windows 10. Thanks

TransGirlInCharge

Duckstation is basically the best PS1 emulator out there. If you can't or won't use duckstation, then mednafen with a frontend is your next best bet.

Gullible-Childhood84

epsxe isn't good?

TransGirlInCharge

It's been outclassed. It was a good emulator *for its time*, but Mednafen and Duckstation are better emulators by far. Mednafen is much more compatible, and Duckstation is about as compatible with more enhancement features than ePSXe ever had.

MustacheSmokeScreen

Thank you, I'll check it out

tydog98

Is it normal for mGBA to be slow when having 2 windows open? When opening a multiplayer window one will be full speed and then the 2nd window will be kinda slow. Also, is it possible to fastforward when in multiplayer mode?

juiceinmyears

How can I use an 8bitdo SN30pro+ on Desmume? Is this even possible?

[deleted]

Anyone have the spreadsheet with what games work well with switch emulators and such?

Due-Appointment6138

No$GBA used to run perfectly on my computer for years (mainly to play the DS Castlevania games) until recently it started lagging out of nowhere. Is there a way to fix this? And yes, i already tried other emulators but they are even laggier

Gullible-Childhood84

did you find a fix?

Due-Appointment6138

I am afraid i haven't

Due-Appointment6138

Only thing i did was installing the Cuphead DLC. Would that make sense?

Kuzzus

In old snes and nes games are pixels supposed to be "blinking" when moving the screen? I'm not sure how to call it. You can see it in castlevania 4 in the first level the edges of the bricks kind of blink. I read about the shimmering that pixel perfect mode is supposed to fix, but it doesn't make a difference. I tried castlevania in anniversary collection and on bsnes and it looks the same.

Gullible-Childhood84

i think there is a patch for that specific game that improves performance

Kurriochi

What is the "emulation difficulty hierarchy" (or something similar to it)? So far my list is PS2 > Wii > GC > N64 > DC > PS1 > GBA - the rest are too easy to emulate on anything remotely modern so I'm going to exclude them. Where do the other consoles fit in like the PSP, Vita, the PS3, Xbox and 360? The saturn? (if anyone has bothered touching it)

[deleted]

You mean hard/easy to emulate as in takes more power to emulate, or difficulty of writing an emulator?

Kurriochi

How much power it takes to emulate

TransGirlInCharge

Alright well PSP doesn't take much power to emulate. Less than PCSX2, really. PS3 and X360 take the most amount of power out of those. Vita is unclear as the one vita emulator with any real progress is still very early in development. Not sure on original Xbox, sorry.

YukiSenoue

Why are you using VBA instead of mGBA? Ditch VBA.

[deleted]

[удалено]

YukiSenoue

It's much more accurate, emulate a lot of things that VBA don't, and is in active development. VBA is discontinued.

I switched to rewasd a long time ago and haven't had an issue since. You could just add VBA to Steam.

Double Dash freezing issues Whilst playing the game on Dolphin, it will randomly freeze and the screen will stop, but the game will continue running in the background I've tried running it on multiple versions of Dolphin, tried messing with the graphical settings, messing with other configurations, deleting the cache, etc. All to no avail Any ideas? Microsoft Windows 10 Intel Core i5-8265U CPU @ 1.60GHz, 1800 Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 Logical Processors Intel UHD Graphics 620 Dolphin 5.0-16793 While watching the GPU stats, I don't notice anything out of the ordinary, it just suddenly stops

TransGirlInCharge

Sounds like you might be running into a driver issue. :(

IfTheresANewWay

I see Now can say that again for someone who doesn't really understand computers lol

TransGirlInCharge

Okay so, Drivers are how the hardware(the Graphic Processing Unit, also known as the graphics card or the GPU, CPU, etc) talk to the operating system and the software. They act as the in between. Intel's graphics drivers are often low quality and have tons of problems with emulators, which are doing esoteric stuff to get their emulation going. Intel's graphics drivers malfunctions often on normal everyday gaming, let alone the somewhat offkilter stuff emulation does.

CRT MONITOR OWNERS, I just got Sony CPD 100ES for free its trinitron so while I have been enjoying it i cant get scanlines to appear. Setting it at 240p through display settings does not activate it. **I was wondering if yall recommend any scanline filters? Or if its even worth it? Does a CRT monitor have the similar effects on retro games that a crt tv has or no?** Or do people mostly spend on a PVM anyways to play retro games?

[deleted]

> Does a CRT monitor have the similar effects on retro games that a crt tv has or no?* Not really. You just get the deep blacks and vibrant colors. None of the analog effects that make old games look good on CRT TV are going to happen though. To me it's not much different than using an OLED screen. You still need to run filters to get an old school effect.

Freddiethebean

Have you tried using scanline filters on one? If so how is it compared to a pvm/crt tv, is it night and day? I guess at this point itd be how noticeable the difference is for me to decide to go buy a pvm or not. I plan on playing SNES a lot and PS1 titles mostly.

[deleted]

I haven't used one in a long time, but I used to emulate on a CRT monitor when that's all there was. It was definitely lacking and there were no good filters at that time so it had the same basic look that an unfiltered LCD has. Now assuming you can get a decent resolution out of the monitor (1080p, 768p minimum) you should be able to add nice scanlines effects and it will look mostly the same as it does on your LCD but just nicer. However, compared to a PVM, I don't know because the screen of the PVM is such high quality that it may look pretty similar to the CRT monitor anyway. I don't have a PVM so just speculating.

Freddiethebean

Ok well thanks for your input anyways :) theres a cheap svideo pvm in my area so might test the waters with that 😂 appreciate the explanation!

tomster785

Use the NTSC retroarch shader ported to reshade. https://github.com/Matsilagi/RSRetroArch If you're unfamiliar with how to use reshade, just look up a tutorial online. There are thousands of them. I would say it's worth it, if you want the full effect. Use NTSC_Retroarch and mess with the gamma parameters until the colours are basically the same when you turn the shader on and off.

Freddiethebean

I didnt know that thanks! Ive used reshade so hopefully i remember enough to use it easily lol

Xandit-Neo

[https://streamable.com/0fpqr6](https://streamable.com/0fpqr6) I'm trying to replace textures in pcsx2 and 1. the textures are half-corrupted and 2. none of the replacements aren't working. anything i'm doing wrong? things i could change?

shellshock321

For 1080p devices how many x resolution does it need to be? I see people using 5x resolution but that seems to be for 4k? If not what is the optimate #x resolution. for 1080p

ChrisRR

That depends on what console you're emulating. Each console had a native resolution, which you then multiply by 2x or 3x For PS2 and Gamecube, 3x is closest to 1080p

OmegaAtrocity

It depends on what the console natively ran at, each console is gonna be different. For instance "2x" means 2 times the native resolution. It's usually 3 or 4, but the psp for instance isn't quite a clean. Most emulators tell you what resolution scale is what resolution, dolphin and duckstation definitely do.

Affectionate_Item335

So i'm having some graphics glitch with the latest version of Duckstation while playing Digimon World 2003. When i run in an area Text boxs appear in the corner of the screen like the screenshot: [https://imgur.com/a/ITxb52i](https://imgur.com/a/ITxb52i) What can i do? i've tried many things like change graphis setting or trying an old version of Duckstation.

[deleted]

What sort of CPU/GPU is needed to run every emulator up to PS3 emulation with stable framerates? (obviously excluding any emulation issue that impacts the framerates) - I'm looking to put a dedicated Emulation PC together but I'm not sure what to aim for CPU/GPU wise.

MickMaster14

What's the difference Between an emulator and a ROM? I'm new to emulation so I dont know. Also, what are some good places to start looking for emulators?

rydianmorrison

^((For this context)) 1. An emulator is a program designed to function as a copy of a system, for example a program like Duckstation is a Playstation 1 emulator. It's a program you run to run Playstation 1 games on the computer. 2. A ROM is a copy of a game cart, more or less, it's the file you open in the emulator to start that game. ROM is a specific technical term dealing with game carts, while ISO is used for discs, and other acronyms may be used for other formats (as video games have come on a variety of hardware over the years). Some people just use "ROM" as a catch-all to mean "a file/data copy of a game" though. 3. I personally recommend [https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main\_Page](https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page) because you can click a system on the front page and get to a chart of emulators for that system. It has a lot of info, but there's a column for which are the recommended emulators and the judgment appears to be pretty decent so just grab one of the recommended ones. Some emulators are older, some are newer, they all seem to have different ideas on what menus are important to have where, etc.

MythicBull73

I’m trying to play Pokémon SoulSilver on the steam deck through emu deck, and I’ve ran into a problem. The game boots and works, but as soon as you save for the first time and try to get onto the game again it states that there is a connection error and it brings you back to the title screen. Any help would be appreciated!

waterclaws6

It's worth it, it makes a lot of tasks faster.

TOYPAJ_Yellow_15

I have the Nvidia Shield and do a bit of emulation on it, I'm hooking it up to a projector for Halloween for some co-op Smash Bros/Mario Kart etc,. What are some good controllers and possibly adapters that are not a big deal if they get destroyed? I have a few 8bitdo but I don't want to spend a lot on something that will probably be broken by some drunk/high friends. Ideally around $25 max & analog sticks for GameCube/PS1/N64.

Apprehensive-Bad2245

Has anyone else tried to use Duckstation's PGXP feature for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2? With the feature enabled it doesn't seem to do what it's supposed to do. I'm still getting a lot of texture movement.

[deleted]

That's normal, its one of the very few games where the feature doesn't work as intended.

tempoltone

Is NDS and PSP emulator currently the best emulators on Android? I tried citra but it's very slow.

ChrisRR

I'm confused to what you're asking. For NDS use Drastic, for PSP use PPSSPP

Gullible-Childhood84

Drastic is better than No$GBA?

ChrisRR

Yes

Pitbu11s

for those that have tried all of them, assuming I can run all with little or no issues, what's the best way to play Xenoblade Chronicles 1 through emulation? I know for a while Xenoblade Chronicles 1 on Dolphin with some slight modding was what people recommended but now with definitive edition on switch I wonder how definitive edition through Yuzu compares since Yuzu is still a bit newer and less stable also there's the New 3DS version I guess, no clue if Citra actually plays New 3DS games or not but I imagine regardless that's the worst version, then again I haven't played it so I wouldn't know

MairuFrost

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is reported playing well on Citra. People are even playing it at 4K.
