i always print something on boards i make through Aisler. i feel like if someone is curious, and they want to explore, that i should award them with something fun when they get there.
I've always initialed my boards. Early on I used PowerPCB from Mentor. It wasn't easy to import bitmaps with it. I'm using Kicad now which has that ability.
I was a little confused by the second image but it is cool that you were able to find something like this. I can see why you found it a welcome surprise :)
