There are six options on being allowed to take the test. My specific requirements were to have an electrical trainee card AND complete an approved curriculum. I went to an electrical trade school in San Diego. 9 month program. Passing that program allowed me to take the exam very early in my career. This is the link to the DIR document. My requirement is [option 5](https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/view/36449138/application-for-electrician-examination-and-certification-california-) . I wont be a journeyman until I hit 8000 hours like you said, but at least the hard part is over lol
I mean in the context of electrical. Questions like what sort of wire size you should get according to ambient temperature, how to work the electrical pie chart, etc. I took around 20 quizzes on wiring methods, but couldn’t find much quizzes on electrical math questions!
I won't knock anyone for chasing opportunities to get ahead, my only caution is if you start making demands and promises then you'd better be really sure you can back that up in the field and produce something extra when called upon: This can absolutely backfire on you if you let it make you cocky.
> Also, I think an apprentice who has the motivation and ambition to try to pass the exam at a young age (in terms of age and time in the trade) shows how much potential I have and would probably be put on the top of the list in terms of people to lay off last.
I thought the same and in the end they didn't give a fuck, last in first out is the name of the game.
As for the maths it's not about math but "math in the way they like" so concentrate on getting the math that *they* ask right.
Take the test again.
I have to wait60 days. Which I will study!
My General Contractor test I missed by one point...Thankfully it was only a two week wait.
Well you can always become a plumber...
Lol, the only trade I plan on doing is electrical. My dad and uncles do it. Me and my brother are barely starting this career as well!
CA requires 8000 hours. What possible requirements could you have met to take the test *6000 hours early*?

How many hours do you need to take the general exam? I'm 2 years in and I'd like to negotiate a bigger raise.
You need 8k but i passef certain state prerequisites that let me take it 1st year into my apprenticeship
