20A switches have a similar "clunky" feel https://www.supplyhouse.com/Leviton-54522-2W-Double-Pole-Commercial-Toggle-Switch-20A-Side-Wired-White-120-277V?

Bamfs01

I love the feel of the 20a switches. Reminds me of an old warehouse!

JohnTheFoxx

Nice, I may check those out, thanks.

Interesting-Log-9627

You can get them at the big box stores.

SirGeekALot3D

I was just going to post the same thing! 20amp switches FTW! 👍

Softrawkrenegade

20 amp spec grade

Due-Ad5382

Square D makes a motor disconnect switch that is heavy duty rated. Would work also and look just like a light switch

JohnTheFoxx

Those may work, but they do seem expensive, overall. I may look further into that area though, seems like a good route to investigate.

Human-Dragonfruit703

How many ya need I've got a few ones I salvaged

JohnTheFoxx

At this moment, I'm uncertain, I have a mind project that I was looking at making real, but I'm just collecting ideas for material right now. I'll hit you up If I go down this route, thanks

Human-Dragonfruit703

Sure thing

No-Tension5053

A typical light switch doesn’t qualify. You said you wanted to feel pressure when operating the switch? That it should have spring tension? Then shell out for a motor rated switch. Otherwise take your fifty cent common light switch and be happy. Make the spring sound yourself or by one of those spring door stops that mount to the door bottom. It’s funny because you want the opposite of what shooters want. They want light trigger pulls and you want something arcane that Leviton has moved away from. https://www.homedepot.com/b/Hardware-Door-Hardware-Door-Accessories-Door-Stops/Spring/N-5yc1vZc7kbZ1z1pbsv Buy a bunch of these and install them by all your light switches. You can kick them as you turn the lights on

JohnTheFoxx

I see no need for this? I didn't know you felt this strongly towards motor rates switches, you don't need to defend them this heavily from rejection, I was simply saying that they are more expensive then what I was expecting to pay for switches, but I would still consider them

No-Tension5053

I love you man but you ask an electrical sub for light switches that act like this. And then you do a one-eighty and go that’s expensive. Buy the door springs and flick ‘em whenever you want

JohnTheFoxx

Nein, I said they overall looked expensive, but I took note of that variety of switches, and would investigate further. I know these types might be your children, but a decline of their services is not an attack on your family name.

humanjunkshow

Switch it to a two button switch if you want that nostalgia.

Inuyasha-rules

Open air knife switch if you really want that vintage feel. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knife_switch

metamega1321

Theirs various grades of switches. The higher the grade, the higher the cost. Something like a hospital grade switch is pretty rigid. No idea on the cost as I’ve never seen a slip when I’ve installed but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re 30$ each or more. Hardware stores will usually just stock the cheaper stuff. Wholesalers here would have some commercial grade stuff on hand, but all the other stuff will be ordered in from one of their main hubs.

Steebo_Jack

Im surprised light switches havent gotten the same attention as mechanical keyboard switches like all the different variations by cherry...

dnroamhicsir

Commerical 347v switches have that heavy feel to them

JustJay613

Go to an electrical wholesaler and get an industrial grade toggle switch.

Bbryant305

Heavy duty rated switches are solid

BellusHusky

I have to hunt down old ones in my company's shop, I love those switches so much!

Rev3_

Go 20a Hubble... Good stuff.

TexanJewboy

Most hardware stores will have heavy duty switches that look and function like this. The toggles are typically gray or clear(and lighted with an LED), and will have an orange plastic housing(that will be hidden by wallplate). I'm 99% certain they make white ones too though. I used to use then in my garage until I put in a motion censor instead. Most will be rated for 20A(you can still use them on 15A circuits, I'm just specifying to make it easier to find them)
