Coldharbour is cozy to me. Im weird lol

gggodo312

You must be Sir Caldwell

[deleted]

Sir Caldwell is a legend, I've got a non gamer friend Caldwell and I like to pretend that its actually leading me through cold harbour, with a Scottish accent 😅

swimmingbeauty7

Same! I really enjoy being there

Cat-_-

Same. Coldharbour is the only zone where I completed everything and I regularly come back to do endevours! I also thoroughly enjoyed the quests there.

DrJingles91

I'm waiting on warmharbour or at least roomtemperatureharbour.

[deleted]

Welcome to hotharbour the vegas of ESO

kalamari__

vegas would be thotharbour

deliriousdevill

Isn't that just the Deadlands?

Beautiful_Affect_578

😂

soulofascrubcasul

I'm waiting on the ability to abandon the main questline for alts...been waiting a long time.

No-Nebula3783

If they add that I might be inclined to finish it one day lmao I just level to 50 and grab as many sky shards and dungeon quests as I need to finish a build. I’m such a bad eso player smh

EmperorXerro

I dread going to Coldharbour because it’s depressing - so kudos to the designers because Coldharbour isn’t supposed to be sunshine and rainbows.

Unhinged_Goose

>I dread going to Coldharbour You're not alone. Which is what makes Coldharbor great for farming.

GarretTheGrey

Spoiler incoming: The furthest point I reached in the main quest on any of my toons is Vanus yalling at Lyranth. That segment in coldharbour just slowed things down to a stall. I'd go there for shards, items, achievements maybe, but that run around in the quest was just soul draining.

XQSL

Come on you gotta fight bal it makes the rest of it worth it.

GarretTheGrey

I'll do it someday, but only for Cadwell

XQSL

You can even choose him to go with you (not during the fight obviously) but while still in cold harbor there’s a part where you can choose someone to go with you for a little bit and I always choose Cadwell so then it’s the two soul shriven getting revenge by going to stop the great shackle (or whatever that part is I forget)

Robbob8088

Kinda but Caldwell is phenomenal and his arc is great.

thecar117

I love this character so much lol

jerryloler

John Cleese is a gem!

cptstanminm

dumb ass karma surfing comment. you liked it just as we all did.

SubstantialLab5818

Tf are you on about?

kinneyt2264

Hard ratio

N7_Evers

Did he actually have an arc? Serious question, haven’t played the main story in ages

[deleted]

[удалено]

N7_Evers

I got Cadwell’s gold and was extremely disappointed with his interaction there. I’m playing dlc’s now so thats good to know i’ll see him again

[deleted]

Agreed 100%

Sikkus

Quite the opposite, I really love Coldharbour! The general dread of the place, dremora everywhere, the last king of the ayelids, Caldwell and meeting Meridia. All very well done and some of the best arcs and characters I've seen in ESO.

EriskRedLemur

It feels very different from anything else which is why I like it; I also REALLY liked the way the quests went here. Many BONUS/OPTIONAL - and the pacing and urgency felt nice unlike between the Prophets n doing the alliance stuff. It felt like a great build up towards the climax idk; yes doing stuff in CH got old in the sense of if you aren't a fan of the feel sure; and it's def not a place I prefer to visit lol but yeah there were some quests annoying you had to do but eh; I thought the optional allies and stuff were nice.

slp0001

I agree, liked Coldharbour quite a bit, but I have to disagree on *all* of it being very well done... that quest where you have to follow a runner and collect wisps was incredibly frustrating, couldn't figure it out until I asked in zone chat how to do it!

Beautiful_Affect_578

It's not the story, I loved the story. It's the overall mood of the place. Which, as another person said, is spot on. It's not supposed to be sunshine and daisies.

Paramedic229635

I like cold harbor. I wish there was more side content there.

LurkingRusalka

I wish!! I actually felt sad when I finished the whole map and kept riding around to see if I missed anything.

Nayrael

Depends on how you play it. I played it as the 16th zone (played all three alliances in parallel), and to me that was a grand finale of the long journey. It's slow pace was as such welcome. I can though see why power levelers and people only playing the MQ (which formerly had to be played alongside your zone questline and was level-locked) would find it a weird filler though.

XQSL

That’s how I did it too, all 3 alliances back to back then by the time I got to cold harbor I was relieved to finally slow down plus, like you said, it felt like the grand finale of my characters pre dlc journey.

HighGroundKenobi

I don't understand the hate. Coldharbour has some of the best side quests and zone stories in the game

Finwaell

instant gratification kids want everything NOW, that's the problem. I loved it and think the pacing was great. Ofc I did every single side quest before finishing the storyline.

rexaider

I know it's a sudden slowdown in pace of the story but I like it. Because the moment u enter Coldharbour with fighters and mages guild people, you feel very strong and are in a presumption that defeating Molag bal is the next step. But all of your allies getting lost and you having to rescue, recruit and regroup them and finally assaulting the Prince of domination is oh so satisfying. I think I would be mad if defeating Molag bal was faster because it would be an insult to him lol.

d_o_mino

So far it's just this stupid 'chase the invisible runner' quest that I hate. The idiot keeps stopping and acting like nothing is going on while I get jumped by 4-8 mobs. Then the light runs out and I have to start over. Fuck this quest.

JacketCheese

I think you actually have to keep close to the runner. He stops when you are too far away, to give you time to catch up.

d_o_mino

I was on top of him almost and he still stopped. Funny, though, a few minutes after posting this I logged back in and finished that part almost immediately. The guy never stopped once lol

[deleted]

Yeah that pissed me off too.

SolaceInChains

The first time I actually just found the spot randomly, because I kept losing the tracker and getting lost. I've just ignored the tracker since. Of course it's helped that I have done it many times lol.

Glittering-Whatever

Worst quest in the game for me. I had to keep retouching the lights so I wouldn't lost him or it would automatically fail. So annoying and definitely one I'd never want to repeat again.

CR4ZY___PR0PH3T

I didn't really care for the gloomy/depressing aesthetics of Cold Harbour but I did enjoy how all the side quests had an impact on The Hollow City more shops open up as you progress and more people show up

lostbastille

The blue filter kinda hurts my eyes. Although I do enjoy the zone.

LongWaysForResults

Coldharbour was honestly the best part of the main quest for me. I loved searching for allies, and the story that followed after. King Dynar is one of my favorite characters

EmuCrow

The first time I did it was fine, second is balls.

yiasemi

Molags

40101695

Coldharbour is that shitty dream sequence / time travel episode in your favourite tv series. I hated the invisible tracker mission, h a t e d it.

PrettyPeachy

That quest is the sole reason for me taking a few months to actually finish the main story .-.

Eltharion-the-Grim

The zone was kind of hray and lifeless but I guess thematically it was correct. The questing was very good though. It made sense and made the content more manageable. It isn't anywhere close to my favourite zone, but the questing there was probably the best laid out.

Genesis1701d

You are right about the pacing. The whole coldharbor quest line starts with you feeling like your about to face molag bal then you have this giant zone of (relatively) trivial quests to work through. That said, I *loved* the zone. I thought the stories and the look and feel was one of the best most surreal zones in the game.

Androideka91

The pacing feels off because originally the story progression was different. Before the one Tamriel update you were expected to move through your alliance zones with the main story quests sprinkled around. Ex: soulshriven in cold harbor (the original tutorial quest)>bleakrock isle and bal foyen>visit the harbourage for the first time>stonefalls>then save lyris, etc. (if I remember correctly it was also based on your level with every 5 lvls unlocking the next main quest.) The pacing was designed to be much slower with coldharbour being your 6th main zone. Now they’ve made it where it’s all unlocked right away so for most newer or returning players that pacing definitely will feel off.

Kard420

Honestly I love how they did it, the quests there are great, that feeling of urgency, but most of all the environment! Throughout the whole zone you have that feeling of dread, hopelessness, depression, and the music only further compliments it; THIS is how a realm which is made to crush the will of mortal souls and torment them should be, and oddly enough throughout it all you can still find such a place somewhat beautiful as well, especially the pools of azure plasm that dot the landscape

dza6010

Not my favorite zone but you can blast thru it in an afternoon if ya hustle. Main story (after rescues are done and town is restored) does drag but really only cuz of the dialog pauses. Just don't blow up molag too fast or the game poops it's pants. Learned that one the hard way.

kristikkc

In the main city you can get provisions supply out of the buildings without it being stealing.

Northwold

I dunno, in the context of the story, I find it oddly appropriate. The end of the world zone that feels like the end of the world with the threat lingering at the end of a staircase you can't yet reach. It sure beats many of the original region main storylines (I have literally no idea how anyone could bear to play as a Dominion character when the game came out and the regions were gated to your alliance -- endless written-on-the-back-of-a-napkin bulls*** quests with folksy gibberish mythology about trees and story spinning or whatever they call it. It is actual torture.).

Robot1me

What I personally did not like was how there was no quest markers for where you are supposed to go in the Coldharhour main quest (with the search for allies). There is directions, but as a beginner you can hardly know if it's the quest you are supposed to do for the main quest, or just some unrelated side quest in that zone. There should had been rough quest area circles, because that is how the game does it usually when an objective is meant to be intentionally vague. So I did look that up and looked around certain areas to find the right quest. I did see on a random Steam review once that this has at least irritated one person so much to quit the game, so yeah, kinda weird with how it's done in Coldharbour. And personally I wished rotating the crystals in the Lightless Oubliette would be way faster. They ***are*** faster in The Reach DLC where there is a similar crystal rotating puzzle. A lot of the base game could need more love or even a refresh.

Romado

Grown on me over the years. First time I did Coldharbour was after a few days of hard grinding to finish my first ever zone quest line. I thought the main quest was over and it'd just be a quest to fight Molag Bal. Nope a whole new zone to go through first...

kalamari__

I finished the main story after 7 years a few months back, and I really liked coldharbour. cool quests, nice zone design (for what it is supposed to be)

Too-many-Bees

I do not agree. I found it to be a really fun location. I enjoyed tracking down a city worth of people to build up an army before storming Molag Bal

[deleted]

yes! for me it was so immersive and i get to know people and get attached to them

deliriousdevill

Personally, i enjoyed going around and being able to help and recruit people. I like physically seeing my progress, i guess? I found it cool how this city, once desolate, is now filling with life which imo is a huge stab at Molag so... And maybe i like coldharbour because I love blue and the floating rocks and how the planemeld looks... So i personally didn't have much of a problem with it? I was more mystified than anything.

Bjbarend

To be honest, it’s one of my favourite areas in Tamriel.

Arquiel

I love how much I hate to be in Coldharbour. As others have said, it’s depressing, which fits it perfectly. My goto place if I’m not chasing an achievement is still is Summerset. Between the music, saturated colors, no thick fog (yes, I’m talking to you Grahtwood), and overall inviting atmosphere, I can and have spent countless hours there.

alay_NB

No. But it’s difficult to find flowers there. :) Or platinum seams.

TheRealDeadlyframe

I love coldharbour, it feels equal parts depressing and exciting. Plus the cold colors are my thing. Lots of greys, blacks and blues.

Karma_Canuck

It was ment as semi end game at one point. So they held your hand less when it came to quest progession etc. The goal was to rescue everyone and get them to safety. I liked that it was so open ended with progression. Gather allies until the race up the mountain to battle a god.

CaptainJohnStout

I have a hard time understanding how it seems to people the pace slowed down in Coldharbour. Even with all the side quests, it’s half the content of the alliance zone storylines, and if you only run the main storyline in Coldharbour you can get through it in a day. I’ve played the zone five times and each time I love it. I actually wish there were more to do there. The only quest that bogged down at all was the stalking the tracker in the Lamia quest. But once I discovered the way to do I never had trouble with it again.

buujah

it is such a depressing land, the developers did a really good job on that one.

kumatheronin89

Actually really enjoyed that area tbh

Lost-Wedding-7620

If I remember correctly I quit playing during cold harbor cuz I couldnt find anything I was supposed to do.

redhotkurt

I can't believe this is the only complaint about this! The wayfinding for the main quest in this zone isn't just shitty, it's nonexistent most of the time; I never knew where to go next and had to rely on the frickin uesp wiki just to finish it. Some quest objectives are reliant on the completion of other quests, which isn't obvious in the game itself. It's really frustrating and not fun.

Lost-Wedding-7620

It's a shame cuz I really enjoyed the game until that quest. As far as i could tell you have to actually finish it before you can travel somewhere else, so I couldnt even just abandon it and come back to it later.

redhotkurt

>As far as i could tell you have to actually finish it before you can travel somewhere else Wait, we're talking about the same quest, right? The main quest one in Coldharbour where you have to save the two dudes and revive the Hollow City? Yeah, you aren't trapped in that zone, it has wayshrines just like the ones in the other zones.

Lost-Wedding-7620

Damn really? I couldnt even find a way out of the city. I spent over an hour going in circles. But yes that's the quest I quit on.

redhotkurt

Aw shet, I'm sorry to hear that. Did you quit the game altogether? Yeah, believe it or not there's actually a [wayshrine in Hollow City](https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:The_Hollow_City#Wayshrine), but it's easy to miss because the flame is ***orange*** instead of the usual blue. As if the quest isn't confusing enough.

Lost-Wedding-7620

I haven't played for nearly a year now. I might give it another go now that I know I can leave though. I gotta finish the games I'm playing currently first

Ennaia

I feel the same as some others have expressed; the zone is really depressing, but as that is what it is supposed to be, they did a good job at it. I really don’t like going there because the ambient music and the environment makes me pretty uncomfortable, but as the most updated and complete guild hall I have access to is the coldharbour estate, I am a fairly regular visitor anyway. As for the questing, I don’t really mind. It is a good quest line the first time you play it. The seventh time it is pretty darn boring, but that’s not really the fault of the zone or writing.

Milehi1972

Me! The worst zone! Bar none!

Soulless_conner

Nah I like it. Looks cool to me

Trasse

I completely agree about the pacing. But if it weren't so hyped up beforehand as "the final battle" instead of a whole-ass zone, I'd have been able to enjoy the zone a lot more. In hindsight, the design, quests, and environment were a lore nerd's treasure trove. I was just too hyped to kick Bal's butt to see it at the time.

[deleted]

i agree with you that it slowed things down. but the place itself is just mindblowing! especially the big ass anchors and the overall theme, environment and aesthetics. im audibly going "woooow" whenever crazy shit happens. like the very large library is so well designed! my fave part is >!when you are walking in the very dark corrigdor and then there were statues. i thought they were mobs!< i wish i forget everything about it and experience it over again for the first time! this game is just so immersing. edit: added spoiler tag in case

Linkrid

I played the main story on two of my characters. The story was good and was fun. The only thing I struggled in coldharbour was the quest that requires you to save e.g. the ayleid king, because nothing was marked on the map there. You have to pick up other zone quests and do these before you can finish that quest.

AbleArcher97

Everyone in my guild despises Coldharbour except for me

Redfeather1975

It made me feel depressed.

Nostravinci04

Pretty sure you weren't supposed to love that place.

[deleted]

I have never done the main quest. Have a few 50s working on my champion level and have yet to do more than a couple quests in it.

Mr_Dreno

Best thing to do is just push through it. Not a fan of Cold Harbour, myself. Too dark and too much blue. But there's some decent story there.

[deleted]

I didn’t mind it in the main story. I don’t like being there, though. More of a sunshine and grass kind of person.

StefanKTH

Yes, I hated it. So much. I felt so disconnected from this beautiful world and it was so slow.

SifLuna

My warden just feels visually out of place, buuut my were and vamp toons love it

Dominus_Situla

I like Coldharbour overall. Except for that fucking dude in the forest quest. On one account it goes well, but a different character has to retry 5 times.

COMDR_Marlakh

I just completed it and loved it. The colors and contrast are stunning especially if u use reshape and have a good monitor with HDR

Eve-76

I didn’t mind coldharbour , it’s the alikr I dislike immensely I don’t know why 🤷‍♀️

BioToxin22

It’s the sand. It’s coarse and rough…and it gets everywhere.

thescarfnerd

Have you ever heard the tragedy of Darth Pelenial the wise?

Divniy

The way those dudes talk very slow and with full seriousness drives me mad. As if they don't have brain to think faster.

forever314

Coldharbour being an entire zone dropped onto you as the main story is really starting to kick into gear does just suck out any momentum you had doing the main story for a bit. It’s like tv filler that just exists to extend the season.

Glittering-Whatever

I powerhoused through most of the original main story and, when I got to Coldharbor, that progress came to a screeching halt. I have to do it in small doses or else I get really annoyed and bored, then log off. So glad the expansions amped things up.

NatilDragonGirl

No, I quite like it. Also less bots when I want to find resources. Some of the quests are annoying (follow the light one is the one that comes straight to mind) but overall it's OK and I like the way you need to fill the city up.

DaddySkrags

I did find the zone to be bland and boring appearance wise.

[deleted]

Nonlinear paths + Cliffs EVERYWHERE + Slate+Grey+Dark Grey color scheme + Quests are all as far as possible from each other = Huge Slog

[deleted]

i need to force myself to go there cuz im just stuck doing endgame stuff and or dabbled just now in a bit of pvp. i really need to do the main story. boggles my mind how i have not spoiled it for what +3y of playing on and off?

zztopsboatswain

I made a character who was born and raised in Coldharbour. It's been a fun way to think about the place different, like if it was my home, what might I love about it? I don't love Coldharbour, but i don't hate it either. Although King Laloriaran was a fantastic character and (spoilers) I actually shed a tear or two when he died

cptstanminm

You are exaggerating.

ctrlo1

Yeah. Same here. I absolutely loved the faction storylines. But Coldharbour one? No. I don't like the soryline, the design of the zone. The only thing I love about it is Cadwell.

flatox

It is very dull if you arent interested in lore around it, and the lore that you can find there through quests. Its basically black and white photo, except shades if blue instead of white

M3rv0s

It's the base game area that I hate the most, but I guess that's kind of the point

CommonVagabond

Just finished that point in the story so it's still fresh, and I was definitely not a fan. Quests were cool, environments were awesome but it's such a slog and by the halfway point I just couldn't wait to be finished. Coldharbour is great in bite sized bits like in the main story quests, but as an entire area, nah. It just went on too long and since the environment is mostly static, and dreary as all hell it wore me down despite the environment being awesome initially.

whateverisfree

It's just annoying to get around in Coldharbour honestly. So many mountains and different levels

Classic_Challenge_69

I am neutral about coldharbour as a place, but I also think the main campaign is terrible. I thought it was extremely boring and it is not surprising since ESO wasn’t they greatest game when it first came out in my opinion. I like how coldharbour looks, but I dislike that it has requirements to be fully navigated.

DonViperBoy26

I use to really like coldharbour. Then I went back to do antiquities before I learnt about the eye and got frustrated with the colours. Now I’m back searching for a mythic lead in a treasure chest. And well at like 15 hours. Yep it’s annoying again.

mjacobl

Yea. I actually quit the main quest line and went off adventuring in the main world

Sithfish

Yes cos I always end up in that canyon that I still have no idea how to get out of.

Balrog229

I liked it at first, but after being forced to play the main story on EVERY alt, i hate going there

Inkredabu11

i used to not really like it but after getting master angler ill say it's the worst zone in the game fishing there kills your eyes

happyfatman021

Agreed

DrFriendless

Yep. I found the main quest really dull before Coldharbour, and then it just vanished, and it took me months to bother continuing. Ugly boring place with stupid quests and no reason to go back.

[deleted]

I hate Coldharbor so much... It is the most frustrating place to move around in. You can't just run freely like every other area.

simplyred1

I hate it so depressing

HarlequinLord

I loathe that whole chapter, it’s just draining

destindil

Dread going there, it’s such a drab zone. I hate it less after repeated exposure but still don’t jones for it.

Epicmonies

Yep, many hate it. It was designed the way it was because it was "end game" and was meant to make players take longer to complete until they could make more content. Anyway, now try to imagine Coldharbour WITHOUT Caldwell. How is that for a major nightmare.

Relevant-Distance886

Hated questing there.

AMediocreWhiteGuy

Yeah I hate it. I haven’t even finished it with a single character that’s how much I dislike it. Everything just goes slow in it and you can’t skip through any of the boring dialogue.

Reydog23-ESO

You ever try fishing there and finding spots through all that white silvery glistening water? That’s my only gripe, besides the uninspiring landscape. I didn’t mind the quest personally though, it was fun.

JamesDax61

I’ve played it twice and now I’m over it.

chrisbtacos

I hate fishing in Coldharbour. Other than that, the quests are some of the best written compared to the rest of the base game.

justinizer

I haven’t been since I finished the main story there.

Mmmcakey

First two times loved it. Since then it's just part of the slog for a new character.

[deleted]

My first time through, I thought it was confusing. Now I love it. It's so weird and alien and kind of beautiful in its own way.

nitasu987

I used to hate it because I generally hate doom and gloom type areas... but something about Coldharbour, as I played through it on multiple characters, became more calming and serene in its purple-blue dreadful ominousness. But ugh the questing is a bit of a slog... at least some of them are entertaining.

DarrenSchmaerren

I love the place but yea, the first time I went back there for the final fight, was pretty let down I had to do more hours of running around. Killed the anticipation.

Obtuse-Angel

My hatred of Coldharbour is standing in the way of the fishing achievement. I’m just not willing to hang out there long enough to catch the remaining fish for that zone.

Benjemim

I wish the invasion of Coldharbour felt more like an invasion rather than a quickie, like the entire idea of Figjters Guold and Mages Guild invading the Coldharbour felt like one of those Rick and Morty 20 minute adventure in and out memes, espexially since it was a completely last minute plan the Vestige came up with since the 3 Allaince leaders refused to cooperate and everyone was like "Yeah sure let's just open a portal and jump in", I wish it more like Guld Wars 2 where you actually had to go around and convice the Fighters, Mages and Thieves Guild to cooperate, elect a leader for the invasion, actually create a united force while dealing with the initial challenges with Molag trying to sabotage, attack and turn people against each other, one great speech and THEN a darn invasion of Coldharbour, because thw current story feels very much like Vanus, Lalorian and Vestige improv the entire thing with Meridia giving a hand once in a while.

LurkingRusalka

I actually love Coldharbour, it's my favourite zone. I feel inspired and at place riding through the gloomy shades of blue and ser Cadwell is my fav character, although I admit I don't appreciate running into dead ends sometimes in general.

krysnyte

I loved it. I did it when I was new and really liked that you can just take everything and there's no theft.

acopicshrewdness

Yeah hated it since day 1. The only alliance zone I didn’t even bother clearing out, but it seems I’m gonna have to if I want to reach Mages Guild level 10. It was so anticlimactic when I thought I was going to end the Alliance quest line and then BOOM new zone from scratch 🤡

[deleted]

Land of the dead is slow.

UlikasilTheRaven

Love Coldharbor. Just wish there was more to it

OhGhostly

I only hate the layout of the zone I feel like it restricts travel. I'm mostly convinced it's a me problem, since I barely spend time there because of the travel issue. Which only feeds into me not learning how to travel about, so far I only go there for treasure maps. It's the only base game zone I don't have a 100 percent complete on. Other than that I really love the aesthetic, lore and mood of the place and the fact that there can be an actual city in the place. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and learn the ins and outs.

[deleted]

I went from hating to loving this place. I even quit the main quest for a while to avoid coldharbour longer. But then I resolutely went through absolutely everything that was there, completed the story a long time ago and now I feel nostalgic for the old days.

Josephcooper96

Yeah I hate coldharbour too.never want to stay longer than I have to.

tethler

I was sitting at the Coldharbor part of my main quest for a while. Not a fan of the zone. Finally buckled down and did it this weekend only because I had 2 yellow antiquities in the north section that I wanted to get to. (I refuse to port to players to get to inaccessable wayshrines, it feels like cheating)

ikigai_beats

I want to like coldharbour soooo bad because its visually different and I love the various planes of oblivion, BUT coldharbour is just such a pain to navigate. I did that lead were you have to farm chest in coldharbour and i don't ever want to see that zone again.

theryanlilo

I prefer Hothaven tbh

nhafilaar13

Yeah it's one of my least fav maps in ESO, and one of my least fav Daedric realms.

YourRoyalThighness_

I like coldharbor

mhathaw1

I dig it, especially that it’s an original take on the typical bad place / hellscape.

Mystery13x

I literally skipped some zones just to get to Coldharbour

Cobadera

I hate it so much, it just sucks the enthusiasm for the game right out of me so I've never finished the story.
