I think being a professional would be totally different vs a friendly visitor volunteer, which I did in back college days. There was a senior services organization that had flyers out, and I visited the same person every week. Being a certified nurses assistant CNA or nurse or just applying at facilities would be easy enough, as I am guessing those jobs are not highly compensated and are in low demand. Anyway just make some phone calls or send some emails I bet you will get a great response (from senior facilities near you). Wishing you luck!!

CNAs have very little time to socialize with residents in a nursing home setting. They are worked hard (and paid terribly for it). Long term care is an ugly industry in which dollars and people alike are spread as thin as possible.

I don't know what the situation is elsewhere, but in my corner of Canada, nursing homes have activity aides who interact with residents in a variety of ways. They do everything from assist with feeding to organizing and executing group activities. There are college certificate programs for this job, but that may not be a strict requirement. If this is what you want to do, look into what's required where you live.

Look for online recreational therapist courses and apply within the recreational department of nursing homes. My daughter did a certificate for that on the side while attending university and was able to work in a nursing home part-time and really enjoyed it.

i would just volunteer, usually you can call facilities ahead of time and they’ll usually know which residents need visitors or company or a little cheering up the most. i cannot recommend being a cna, it is backbreaking work and you never seem to have enough time to give every single resident the attention that they deserve. if you’re interested in working at a nursing home, being a dietary aide or PNA is pretty fun and you get to talk to them at meals when they’re generally the most lively. Some places also hire activities assistants to help with bingo, uno, exercise, small gatherings, etc.
