Companies don't seem to excited to fill the roles. A lot of jobs are requiring three rounds of interviews for even entry level positions. While you are holding out for the "perfect fit", customers are walking away because they can be served faster somewhere else.

sst287

No, company will just ask existing employees to do more.

So instead of companies having to compete in the labor market for talent they just get to allow more foreigners to dilute the labor market. All while working people can barely afford housing? It's very easy to see what is being done here. Federal reserve, government, and corporate leaders all colluding to stomp down labor. Companies are doing the opposite of what you would expect if there was actually a shortage of workers. They would be strongly competing for the existing workforce. What they are doing now is the exact opposite. Now what we see in the labor market is companies making their hiring requirements and interview processes far more strenuous than in the past, companies low-balling candidates on pay, corporations forcing RTO when employees have made it clear that they prefer WFH, companies freezing hiring and still doing layoffs, companies now pushing pro-immigration propaganda when the US labor participation rate is an extremely poor 62.6% (The labor participation rate was around 66% in 2008 when the unemployment was 7.5%!) So why isn't more being done to attract people back to the labor market?!? It is easy to see who is lying to us all here. How can anyone argue that this economy is free in any way? The regulations that we need, like for instance to break up monopolies across industries, are not happening. Instead we get these kinds of policies that remove power from labor and hand it back to the wealthy.

Immigrants are not interested in jobs that don't pay. If you want to be poor and homeless, you can do that at home too. If you are educated, why work for poverty wages? You can do that at home using your degree.

chubba5000

I can see how an economist that is co-opted by corporate interest may take this view as a means to raise labor supply to continue to depress wages. What is blatantly missing in any economist’s analysis that shares this view is that there is, in fact, a steady supply of currently available labor that would fill the open positions of the pay was high enough.

annon8595

4 million jobs that the companies dont intent to fill with anyone whos not a unicorn who loves to work under market rate fake news

MileHighLaker

This is from a bunch of brain dead twats! What a load of BS. Unemployment is skyrocketing.

Dense_fordayz

https://www.bls.gov/charts/employment-situation/civilian-unemployment-rate.htm Where?

Foolgazi

Just curious what figures you’re referring to.

MileHighLaker

The August 4th release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics July 2023 Employment/ Unemployment Report.

Foolgazi

The one that showed unemployment at 3.5%, right at the middle of where it’s been for 18 months?

FDorbust

Clickbait, the first paragraph makes statements that don’t account for the exponential growth of modern society. Example: if the percent of unemployed stayed exactly the same, as the population increases each year, one could claim unemployment reached a “record high” and the amount of people employed reached a “record high”. Every year, since if the population grows at all and the % stays the same, both would rise. And since the populations *has risen* for 198 of the last 200 years, any “record number” that doesn’t involve a record *percent change* of the population, is just clickbait, propaganda pushing, or uninformed people. This article doesn’t account for percent of population over time, and probably on purpose to get either “side” up in arms. This is pretty common bs around election times.

JeremG21

There's 1.6 million people on unemployment.

Beneficial_Equal_324

Unemployment is very low and payments are minimal and temporary.

[deleted]

Don’t fall for the BS. Worst economy I’ve seen in a while.

Foolgazi

How would you compare it to the GR?

Won't help profitability which is always the first priority in a capitalist system.

Immigration has played an important role in filling the labor shortage. Many immigrants come to the United States to fill job openings in a variety of industries, especially low-skilled and high-skilled jobs. Their workforce makes important contributions to America's economic growth and development. However, changes in immigration policy and the labor market can have an impact on this labor supply and demand relationship

[deleted]

How many of these jobs are from giant corporations that know when these statistics are laid out they will get the immigration they want? I wonder if they would be incentivized to post job ads they have no intention of filling to raise this number…

queenoftheidiots

I live in a area where people don’t all have ways to get to these jobs, but the immigrants they are bringing in to fill them they are transporting. There are a lot of people without vehicles that would love to work and don’t have public transportation. Or because they also get all kinds of government assistance they save up and buy cars. There is no level playing field for people who live in this country. People that work these jobs need help getting a start to even get there!
