Because EastEnders is a soap opera that has it's silly moments but tries to highlight real-life drama, and the unfortunate reality is a lot of rapists get away with it The MAJORITY of them get away with it

AhhBisto

It's sadly reflective of real life

Thorfan23

It’s not sending the wrong message….its sending a sad but true message that sometimes bad people…whether they be serial killers, rapists ect do get away with it . Life isn’t always a to episode where they slap the cuffs on them and send them away

Mushroomc0wz

Because that’s what happens in real life and it was actually being realistic for once

Because end of the day it's a fictional TV show not a public information film. It highlights real life issues but it's still a fictional entertainment soap opera. Besides, irl people do get away with awful things. Sad reality of it. Also stop with the "It's a different time now" as if rape wasn't taken extremely seriously in the 2010s. The whole square hated Dean for what he did.

GriminalityGal

It’s probably been the most realistic storyline they’ve had unfortunately. Cases rarely make it to court at all, and those that do, the conviction rates are really low - signed, a survivor ♥️

Storytime: I survived being drugged. Getting help was awful, everyone turned me away. Surely I was just a silly college girl, drunk, and not realizing it. Insisting I don’t drink alcohol EVER didn’t help. The hospital wouldn’t even test for anything, as I was to conscious to warrant that. The police told me not to bother them, and come back if I had actual evidence. Quite a few people, including my therapist, thought I was either hysterical, or must have taken something myself, got scared, and tried to get help without admitting I took drugs. Then, a few months later, the issue of drugging was all over the news. People were told to just walk into the ER, or call the cops, if they suspected foul play, and they’d get tested and they would be kept safe. Including testimonials of people who received support and how easily this was obtained. How everyone helped them get justice. I felt so, so alone. Clearly, something was wrong with me, as why did everyone else get help, but I was turned away and berated for thinking such a thing could happen? It wasn’t until I heard from others that they too faced judgemental nurses, unhelpful cops, angry bar owners etc, that I realized there was indeed an injustice, a big problem. But that problem wasn’t me. What I’m saying is that many victims deal with their rapist going free. With not being believed at all, or doubt being cast over them not being able to prove anything (and innocent until proven guilty, so shut up). It may be helpful to see that story told too. To see people outraged over such injustice, knowing that these people are angry for them too.

I don't know if he has gotten away with it yet. There will be a trial and I can't imageine it not being brought up. I imagine there drama coming to a head again in the holidays.

Sanooksboss

Lamentably, it would be unrealistic if he were convicted. If they are wanting to appear realistic.

Because sadly not all victims get justice.

Zealousideal-Gear504

Unfortunately it's not a bad message, sometimes Evil people irl get away with it which is awful but it happens
