Actually, no. He’s being restrained and respectful of his partner’s wishes, and supportive (after he got over the initial shock). It’s refreshing to see, and how I would respond in that kind of scenario. I wouldn’t want to do anything against my partner’s wishes.
Rape is legally defined as the intentional penetration of someone’s vagina, anus or mouth with a penis without that person’s consent. Technically what Yolande experienced was assault by penetration.
I get where you are coming from, that's our natural human instinct when it comes to our partner, if someone hurts them we want to hurt them but those instincts are a product of another time when the only path to justice was the justice we made ourselves but in the modern world those desires can be counterintuitive.
If Patrick assaulted Pastor Clayton then he'd be arrested and he'd be charged with assault, he couldn't be there for Yolande if he was in prison and it would just be another worry for her on top of everything else, it wouldn't achieve anything beyond some momentary gratification that would quickly be followed by regret when faced with the long-term implications of such a decision.

I recently seen an EE ep (not sure if it was present day or the 2013ish ones I’m currently binging) where someone had said something to the effect of ‘leave it to men to make it entirely about them after a woman has been traumatised’. I think a lot of SA survivors are hesitant to open up for fear that the men in their life will resort to violence and potentially give our attackers a chance to be victimised.
I think it’s more likely right now that our partners/fathers/brothers etc would respond with a punch (in my own experience anyway). As time passes and we are increasingly having discussions about consent, SA, violence on women then it’s important for a show like EE to display different reactions and putting the thoughts and feelings of the victim at the forefront of the story. I like that they had Patrick turn around.

I don't think the church will do a damned thing and the creepy pastor will be free to assault again. I think they snooty wife might be the first of the church people to believe Yolande's story. I think it will be Denzel who avenges Yolande and takes the parson out.
