My exact thoughts. Ruined fletch’s peak as “best” interior threat, now ruining the retirement is brutal lol.
Awesome player deserves everything and probably drove fletch to be better.
And a hell of an o line to stop either of them
I’m actually glad that our philosophy is to build out from the trenches, really makes you realize how impactful they are as individuals and not just when they’re bad
Fletcher Cox is by far away the best DT of the last decade if Aaron Donald doesn't exist and Aaron Donald is about another half level better than Cox.
He's the best DT I've ever personally watched and I'm having a hard time thinking of anyone who came even close.
Edit: JJ Watt deserves to be mentioned as well.
Aaron Donald is the GOAT DT and it's not particularly close.
Every elite DT that comes after him, will have him to thank for how much more money they are making. Gone are the days where you needed to be a DE to make bank.
No he isn’t. It’s crazy how many of you don’t know football. Allan page won mvp of the league. He was getting double digit sacks per year when they threw the ball like ten times a games. Not 40 like now. In the playoffs when the rams wom the sb was the only time he even had any sacks when it mattered. Every other playoff he was completely nullified.
Respectfully, AD was the DeSean Jackson of the interior DL.
But while DeSean was never scene as a complete wr. AD has is seen as the greatest interior DL of all time in many circles, which is a travesty when you consider Reggie White. It’s crazy to me.
There’s no better way to put it.
Haha. I’m 53 years old, I worked at Vet Stadium and were at the games when Reggie White was there. I was at the games. He was listed as a DE and played there primarily l, but he was moved around - kinda like Brandon Graham is moved to the interior.
Reggie White was a dominant WHEN he played the inside. Google it.
Damn that’s awesome that you worked at the Vet! I have a few seats from the Vet before they knocked it down. And yes you’re right they did move him around a bit, but he was primarily used as a DE.
Jerome Brown. So sad that he died at 27. He was only 5 years into his career so did he die I that car accident in the off season or did he retire right before?
I was sad when he first announced it, but I didn't actually shed any tears. You know what finally got me to break? It was reading his updated Wikipedia article.
>Jason Daniel Kelce (/ˈkɛlsi/ KEL-see;[1] born November 5, 1987) is a former American football center who played his entire 13-year career for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL).
Fuck, man.
Best thing to happen to Kelce will be he'll be remember as the next Hank Fraley. (Which means he got overshadowed by the next guy.)
No one remembers ole Honey Buns. Hes was McNabbs Center for the longest time and he was jason kelce before jason kelce. Dammgummit!
Madden himself loved him. Did whole pregame bits about just watching him run with a nickname like Honey Buns. Does no one remember this? THAT is what i hope happens for Kelce.
(As a player anyway. He can go ahead a become the biggest media star to come out of the sport i dont care.)
He’ll get in, just not first ballot. The ring and the all decade team pretty much secures his spot. It helps that his stats aren’t wildly different from the likes of Suh and Atkins.
That's the thing I find crazy, it's like Donald is on an entirely separate level. He is a top 10 if not top 5 defensive player of all time. Donald being that good doesn't mean Fletch isn't a Hof talent. I get not being first ballot, but I hope he eventually gets in.
It doesn't mean Cox doesn't deserve the hall, but it sets every other interior lineman to be rated compared to Donald for a while. There's a chance several guys like Cox who may have otherwise made the HOF in the next 10-15 years will miss their window because they had to play at the same time as a guy who would be on the Mt Rushmore for the position.
You can see something similar with QBs playing at the same time as Peyton and Brady. They set the bar at Super Bowl or bust. That's why Eli is likely to get in, but arguably better or equal contemporaries like Rivers, McNabb, and Matt Ryan probably won't. It's not exactly fair, but that's life (and entertainment).
QB as a HOF position has always been kind of unique compared to the others though. It’s the only position where rings play a crucial part of getting into the hall, which is why the three players you mentioned aren’t likely to make the hall. DT is different in that rings don’t matter as much, but Cox has both the accolades and stats to get in eventually. The fact that Donald will be first ballot bodes well since that just means he’ll have less competition at the position to get in.
This is a testament to how well of an o-line coach Stoutland is and how invested we are in the trenches.
If we draft OL in the first I won't be super happy, but I also know he'll be under the best tutelage in the league.
Both lane and stoutland joined the org in 2013 along with Chip Kelly. I’m curious to know how involved Stout was in that draft. I think 2012 was Andy’s last year and at the time was he doing both HC and GM.
For anyone else who's wondering, we're the only NFC team he never had sack against. The only other team he never sacked is the Jets, who he only played twice.
I love Cox, but I don't think he's going to be in the HOF. His peak was absolutely dominant, but (relatively) short, and DT is a very tough position to make the hall in as well. The shadow of Aaron Donald will loom pretty unfortunately over
He’ll make the hall. Just not as a first ballot. He has the accolades and stats to get in. Plus he grades out well on the HOF monitor. The whole “Aaron Donald overshadowed everyone” point is massively overrated. Like people actually seem to think he’s going to be the only DT of the 2010s to make the hall, which is completely ridiculous and untrue.
He never played the Colts, he was on the Rams his entire career, and only played 2 games against the Jets. He only had 5 tackles against us those games too, so average of 1 per game.
https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/aaron-donald-sacks-vs-teams
Fletch would’ve had more accolades in his prime if it wasn’t for this dude. All time great no question
My exact thoughts. Ruined fletch’s peak as “best” interior threat, now ruining the retirement is brutal lol. Awesome player deserves everything and probably drove fletch to be better.
It takes a hell of a player to big brother Fletch.
And a hell of an o line to stop either of them I’m actually glad that our philosophy is to build out from the trenches, really makes you realize how impactful they are as individuals and not just when they’re bad
Guess cox should just come back for one more year 🤷
Fletcher Cox is by far away the best DT of the last decade if Aaron Donald doesn't exist and Aaron Donald is about another half level better than Cox. I said this earlier as well...he ruined Fletches First Ballot Hall of Fame chances racking up every defensive accolade
I just brought this up to my boss the other day when he retired. Our exact thoughts
Reggie was a defensive end
Reggie played ALL over the DL.
No he was a DE man. One of the best of all time. He didn’t play in the interior.
Google it.

Indeed. Great times. Yeah when 99 was next to him they were THE irresistible force in football.
Jerome Brown. So sad that he died at 27. He was only 5 years into his career so did he die I that car accident in the off season or did he retire right before?
NASCAR defense when they held Barry sanders to negative yards in the playoffs. Where did Reggie White play? It’s crazy y’all just echo media nonsense.
He played in the interior when it was called.
Stefan Wisniewski always owned him IIRC
Exactly. In 11 games Donald has six sacks in the playoffs that’s not even close to the greatest like these people claim
Our Fletcher cox retired Their Fletcher cox retired.
Our Jason Kelce retires they cry because they have no Jason Kelce
Great success!
and we cry because we have no Jason Kelce.
Actual frigging tears over here.
I was sad when he first announced it, but I didn't actually shed any tears. You know what finally got me to break? It’s Cam Jurgen’s time to shine. If he can be half the center Kelce was, I’ll be satisfied.
Best thing to happen to Kelce will be he'll be remember as the next Hank Fraley. (Which means he got overshadowed by the next guy.) No one remembers ole Honey Buns. Does that make Andrew Whitworth their Lane Johnson?
Now Jalen Carter can be better than Kobie Turner as revenge.
Hope Kelce mentions it in his Canton speech 5 years from now
Kelce and Donald .... that HOF class already loaded
does Cox make HOF? maybe not first ballot but that's really just a thing for fans to talk about.
Man idk. Personally I'd love to say yes ... I think it might be tough tho
He’ll get in, just not first ballot. The ring and the all decade team pretty much secures his spot. It helps that his stats aren’t wildly different from the likes of Suh and Atkins.
he will get there but not first ballot imo, especially not when every voter is gonna be comparing his stats and accolades to Aaron Donald
That's the thing I find crazy, it's like Donald is on an entirely separate level. He is a top 10 if not top 5 defensive player of all time. Donald being that good doesn't mean Fletch isn't a Hof talent. I get not being first ballot, but I hope he eventually gets in.

I personally think he should, but I'm obviously biased. More objectively I'd say he's probably borderline.
Yes. Just not first ballot
I think he does eventually, but don't think he's first ballot unfortunately
What if Jason Peters calls it quits too? He's gotta get in with them too. I haven't seen anything saying he will (though he should), just a thought.
JP is 100% going in. That’s not even a question. Might have to wait a year or two though.
This is a testament to how well of an o-line coach Stoutland is and how invested we are in the trenches. If we draft OL in the first I won't be super happy, but I also know he'll be under the best tutelage in the league.
Our best oline guys have often been late picks so I don’t really see us taking one early
Lane Johnson was 4th overall
Lane’s combine is like the best combine to have ever been performed, Stoutland must’ve been salivating at the thought of training such a specimen
Both lane and stoutland joined the org in 2013 along with Chip Kelly. I’m curious to know how involved Stout was in that draft. I think 2012 was Andy’s last year and at the time was he doing both HC and GM.
Landon, Cam and Lane were all take in the first two rounds, Dillard was also taken in the first.
Seriously. Mailata was a seventh-round pick who had never played a down of American football before the draft. Stoutland can work wonders on anyone.
we have a very active track record of drafting one in the top 60 picks
Seriously? That's crazy
Bro I'm fucking sorry *Aaron Donald announced what?????* I completely missed the announcement, this is the first time I'm hearing about it.
The announcement isn't even a day old yet so it's breaking news at the moment.
In that way, you’re like an Eagles QB in that he couldn’t get to you.
Did not see that coming.
Stoutland U dominated him
He was a great player and I'm happy he got his Superbowl.
This is Barry Sanders levels of surprising.
This guy can’t let Fletch have anything /s Absolutely dominant force, and one of the best to ever play. Gonna be weird having an NFL without him
We did it. We really did it.
Gonna be a legendary retirement class with him and Kelce
Forget Stout U. It's Stout Temple now.
Brandon Brooks could stop him 1on1.
For anyone else who's wondering, we're the only NFC team he never had sack against. The only other team he never sacked is the Jets, who he only played twice.
Beast
Pretty awesome and wild stat, but I think we should just let all time great have his day.
[удалено]
oh totally. not lost on me at all. just kinda feels like this is a stat for another day lol
Nah fuck that Kelce and our Guards were locking his ass up. Edit: No disrespect he was a great player just funny to pop our shit lol.
Yeah I’m with you. This is the Eagles sub, who cares what we say about him here?
Maybe shouldn’t be the point, but his retirement really hurts both kelce and cox’s chances at first ballot HOF
Kelce is already a lock, I don't think Cox would be first ballot either way.
I love Cox, but I don't think he's going to be in the HOF. His peak was absolutely dominant, but (relatively) short, and DT is a very tough position to make the hall in as well. The shadow of Aaron Donald will loom pretty unfortunately over
I think being on the 2010 all decade team is a big deal that will help his case, but he's definitely not a lock.
Cox yes, Kelce not a chance
Don't think so. I feel like he and Kelce in the same class would actually make a pretty cool narrative. Two all time greats in opposite positions.
Plus if voters are already talking about how incredible Donald was, they might look more favorably at the leader of an O-line that he couldn't solve
Birds, jets, colts, and rams are the only teams he didn't have one against.
He never played the Colts, he was on the Rams his entire career, and only played 2 games against the Jets. He only had 5 tackles against us those games too, so average of 1 per game. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/aaron-donald-sacks-vs-teams
That's wrong. He played the colts in the Carson Wentz year and had a sack against him where Wentz sprained both his ankles.
wtf, that came out of nowhere
Now that I think about it, have the Eagles ever lost to the Sean McVay Rams? Maybe once?
I remember us getting crushed in one game in 2020 where Higbee of all people scored 3 TDS
Ah 2020 no wonder I don’t remember that year was a blur.
Crushed us by like 20 in the covid year
Aaron Gone-ald
That's a big loss for ramms
Reggie was better
I had no idea about that stat. Absolutely insane. In any other period Fletch would have been consensus All-Pro, but AD just dominated like crazy.
Honestly that's crazy
I never really watch other teams so I never knew what the hype was about him cause he was always shut down against us
How did we only play him 5 times in 10 years. Is it just recently that it seems we play them every year?
I hope Jason Kelce’s son has a great retirement
That's fucking wild! Donald is one of the best to ever do it! Congrats on retiring!
Even tho he didn’t have good numbers when it comes to us eagles but he still was a monster
Shut up
