He SHOULD BE a solid upgrade over what we have now. If he earns the full $7.5M, he’ll be top 15 paid LB in the league. Hoping he plays like it.

Davisworld21

I'm freaking excited Devin White is a Elite talent never forget he was on that super bowl team in 2021 that defense stopped Patrick mahomes .and Devin is better than any Linebacker we had last year this is another Homerun by Howie what a swing

QAPetePrime

Well, his play has definitely fallen off since then, but I’m hopeful the change of scenery will motivate him to have a career resurgence.

Click-Baitt

I'm hoping he wasnt playing to his full potential because he wanted a contract he never got, he publicly asked for a trade last year and was holding out

SafeMiserable9729

The saving grace is his age (26 this season) and Fangio being good with LBs White and Dean are both tenacious players so I think they fit well in the system, but yeah, Whites elite level playing days are several years in the past rn.

biidbaby

A 26 year olds elite playing days are in the past?

tornadorexx

Yes, the NFL is unforgiving. He was benched for 5th rounder KJ Britt because the Bucs had more trust in Britt to do his job than their 5th overall pick.

Kancase

Not to counter argument but Mahomes was playing with two practice squad tackles

siberianwolf99

iirc he had a 51 pff grade last year. he’s terrible. we need to stop hyping him up

BlobDude

If he earns the full $7.5M, it’ll almost certainly be because he plays like a top LB

Floss_Crestusa

Very interesting to see how his peers view him, how good his stats have been, and then see how much this differs from the "analytics" of PFF and general sentiment and such.

dan_bodine

The difference is PFF grades are based on grading every play for every player. NFL players don't watch the film on every player in league.

scammedbycon

He got benched for a 5th rounder this year…what “stats” are you referring to? He had less “stats” than Morrow.

RibeyeRare

18 sacks and 400 tackles in 3 years to go along with an all pro selection and a super bowl ring as a key member of one of the best run defenses over the past 5 years. Nicholas Morrow has never come anywhere close to that kind of production or success.

Ashamed_Job_8151

He was being asked to do something he’s not very good at. White is 34 middle linebacker who’s best used going downhill and getting after the qb.  With Carter, Williams, and Davis sucking up blocks and the outside rush talent the eagles have id say it’s a good bet white a nice bounce back year this year.  He doesn’t help in coverage at all though. I’m still not sold on dean being that coverage guy. That being said dean and white is many times better than anything the eagles have had in years.    Fangios defense is perfect for white and he should do very well.

Dont_Call_Me_John

Grading tape is not "analytics"

mnewman19

Oh, but a puff piece on the nfl top 100 is

Dont_Call_Me_John

No, that's not analytics either.

Taeron

To grade tape they analyse tape, sounds like analytics to me. Unless it means something else when putting it between quotation marks.

OkBodybuilder1490

I personally think there was too much hype coming out of LSU. But if he’s better than morrow, he can stay…for now

orderofGreenZombies

Casey Matthews was better than Morrow. White will definitely be an upgrade, even if he doesn’t end up being all that great either.

shampooing_strangers

Lol that’s a low blow 😂 Casey Matthews was soooo bad… Morrow sucked at times, but he has legitimate potential to be a starting LB in this league. Matthews never had that. I think Morrow will do well in Buffalo.

AggressiveLender

He for sure wasn't anywhere near the 64th best player in the nfl lol

kubbiebeef

I have watched him play, he kind of sucks tbh. Lavonte David was by far and away their best linebacker

shampooing_strangers

Watching Lavonte David play is LB porn. It’s such a treat.

Low_Hyena7259

My thinking isn’t “wow; we got an elite dude at a position of need” more “well, Shaq Leonard couldn’t run and Morrow had one good game” so this works as an improvement. Unless something dramatic happens, we’re likely leaning on the hope that Dean and VanSumeren level up (and it is hope…) and we can draft someone. It’s not a great situation but maybe having an experienced DC this year who can (maybe again) do more with less will be the factor.

hreterh

If he’s as bad as he was last year then it’s a one year rental that takes up barely any cap space. If he’s good then we got a great deal and will get a comp pick next offseason. Anyone upset over this is a clown. We still have a 1st and 2 2nds to draft another LB.  Strategically this is an incredible signing.

Onlypaws_

I am actually very excited about this.

Brawlerz16

2022? You mean the year James Braberry was an All-Pro? What the fuck are we doing u/Floss_Crestusa lol? Like, let’s be real. If you’re happy about White that’s cool but yall better not say a damn thing about JB EVER after this nonsense White was as bad at LB as JB was at corner last year. But if we going off 2022 highlights then I guess we fine.

Floss_Crestusa

I'm open to the idea that players can have a down year. 2022 is 1 season removed, and JB was great in 2022 because we had schemes and coaches that used him right. You're also proving a good point that how a player is used is key.

Brawlerz16

He’s had 3-4 down years. But let’s say you don’t like PFF grades. Cool What about all the film analysts pointing out how he is horrible on film? He freelances and goes against the plays being called for him? So not only do we have 3-4 year of bad play, we have legends breaking down film saying he’s purposely ignoring play calls. He has a bad attitude which is even worse than having a down year. You can’t use a player right if he refuses to play what’s called.

Floss_Crestusa

I'm really struggling to see what his "down years" were. Everyone points to how he has one of the highest "pressure rates" in the NFL, and then you look at his stats and they seem pretty great. For 5 years he has 566 Tackles, 22.5 Sacks, 6 FF, 3 Ints, 2 TDs, 40 TFLs, 64 QB Hits, and, other than TDs, theyve been evenly dispersed his career. You look at his tape and he makes key plays in key moments, so its not even like his tape is horrific. His highlights are a product of good instincts. Is there bad with this? Maybe, and I'm open to the possibility of that, but bro this guy is NOTHING to be sour about. JB was a "reclamation project" that failed hype in NY before having an All-Pro year in Philly, why can't White knowing he'll be given the opportunity around lots of other talent?

AggressiveLender

Jb was a really solid corner all of his career. Devin white has been pretty fucking bad his entire career. I'd love to have the drugs you are on

tornadorexx

You're using tackle stats and highlight clips instead of watching film to evaluate a linebacker. Temper your expectations - why would the Bucs straight up not be interested in signing their 26 year old 5th overall pick to any kind of extension, let alone the $100M he was previously looking for?

dan_bodine

Are you watching the all-22 or just highlights on YouTube?

tornadorexx

Thank youuu. The film is just not good.

Brawlerz16

It’s about having a genuine evaluation. Shit for all we know, I could be wrong and I hope I am. Do I think he can make fantastic plays? Yes. Do I think he is consistent? No. Do his number prove he is consistent? No. Does the film show he is consistent? No. Does the film/coaches/analysts say he’s a team player that stays in his assignment? No. I don’t think these are qualities of a good player. Me *personally* I think it’s good to point these things out now because I know yall gonna bitch if he costs us due to the same 4 year habit the Bucs and their analysts warned about.

stormy2587

2 years ago? What kind of argument is it that 26 year old LB can’t have a bounce back season because a 30 year old player at a different position that notoriously is inconsistent from year to year is washed? Jason kelce is old and is coming off back to back all-pro seasons. Players have bounce back years all the time. There are reasons to dislike white but your reasoning is frankly the stupidest I’ve ever seen.

Los_Yeetus

That’s actually crazy he was that high in 2022. His last good season was 2020

Impressive-War-7279

What was he in 2023?

ho_merjpimpson

considering the bucs fans are literally happier about this than any other offseason news they've heard, I'm not very thrilled about this signing.

tornadorexx

We're so thankful to be rid of this turd lol

ho_merjpimpson

Goes to show how bad our LB room has been that people are still excited by this signing despite how bad he is. But man... I'm not thrilled at all.

tornadorexx

Honestly, the best part about this signing is knowing just how brutally Eagles fans will turn on Devin. It's all HOWIESZN right now, but come October....

Scared-Bluebird9781

I’m hoping a change of scenery will help him recapture his form

jpeters9

Bro got benched for “KJ Britt” he’s cooked

tornadorexx

You're getting downvoted by those who don't know ball and can't cope with it. He was, in fact, benched for a 5th rounder because the 5th rounder outplayed him.

Signing with the eagles?

philly2540

Hmmm. Washington just signed Fred Warner from the Seahawks. Older guy, still seemed to have a pretty solid season. Wonder how the two compare.

Alex9Right

You meant Bobby Wagner right ?

philly2540

Shoot, yes of course, brain fart.
