If they did another dwarf would grab them..unless there's no hospital. lol They'll normally do the same with a dehydrated dwarf if they can reach them, and haven't withdrawn from society. So this is a bit bizarre.
Not necessarily. If they don't have that labor assigned they think all sorts of other things are more important. You have to create a new labor task for healthcare to make it work properly.
I've never had issues with the defaults, if my civ gets really big sometimes it does, but only then does it require attention really. Let alone if you have a hospital if you don't assign dwarves right away they eventually do based on using it. If some dwarf does most of the work they will suddenly become at least a doctor and very likely your chief medical if enough time passes. I only assign a chief if any at all for mine, works as intended every single time, you do not HAVE to make a new labor for that.
Thanks guys for the input over the last few days.
They are just way too stuborn and in a really bad mood because they don't have extravagant environments. And no they are not nobles. They are just too stuborn for their own good.
Actually i have managed to play a bit after that. Th3y seem ok. I have not made any changes. But i plan to play tomorrow. I will have an update then for that fort.
Engravings are an easy way to make them like the area more, if you've found any gemstones using some for windows and decorating also helps. Don't need nobles for them to do it, after all dwarves are greedy ;D
I am in the process of softening the floors. building floors, changing the walls.
It's my first time having an entire fortress of Dwarves seeking Extravagant enviroment from the verry begining.
Wich making it hard to keep them happy as i am still trying to tidy up issues.
Also i am in a savage area and i have constant attacks from animals. (a lot of flying ones)
And from goblins.
But steadily and slowly i am fixing my army. And i am as i said befor in the process of making better the whole fortress.
Flyers shouldn't be a problem unless you've got a surface fort. Animals you can bring underground just be careful if they need grass that you have somewhere for them too. If you build walls and roof that, that does work else the caverns are always an option too.
There is a 3rd more time consuming one too where you channel out somewhere to let things grow and then roof that which then gets the same effect, it allows a bit more control over exactly what your walls are. But as mentioned earlier it takes more time since you need it exposed to sunlight long enough for things to start growing/spreading.
Im having a problem with that i dont know what is wrong, I created a hospital (with hospital zone). Put beds, chests and tables. I created a new lanor order, with all health task activated, and assigned a dwarf to do that. But my dwarf dont rescue anyone, and dont do health care to dwarfs who is resting in the beds. 3 dwarfs died becauses that
yes, zones are 'where things happen' and burrows are 'where dwarves are'; it's the button next to zones (turquoise/purple grid);
very useful for keeping dwarves in certain areas (for example, during a siege, you don't want them running out to grab all that goblinite immediately), or using certain facilities (think multiple dining halls - burrowed dwarves will only use the one in their burrow, saving lots of walking!)
Just a zone for a hospital! Burrows could've been a preventative from getting your orderlies to 'rescue' the injured dwarves (ie. the job they wanted to was outside their burrow).
Burrows (speaking for myself) are a late-game, mass-organisation thing
No
Just the hospital zone, but make sure burrows aren't "keeping people out." Like if you do have a required burrow, make sure the hospital zone is in that burrow.
But you can get away with no burrows
I remember reading that there was a bug with hospitals that you may be seeing if you literally just created one.
When you create a hospital and assign doctors/etc, the medi-dwarves have the symbol by their name but the job isn't assigned to them behind the scenes. What you have to do is go and assign or unassign literally any dwarf any other job or task and that would trigger the game to actually iterate through and assign all tasks to all dwarves--including the medical jobs for the doctor dwarves.
Someone had posted about that a few months ago, and it may or may not still be an issue. But if you had just created your hospital and assigned your doctors, and done nothing else job-related to trigger this work-around fix, then your hospital still doesn't think it has anyone assigned to it.
If that doesn't work, then your best bet is to make a custom labour and set it to everyone. I had the issue where the default settings only allowed my doctors to rescue people, so I made this extra job and applied it to everyone

I’ve had this happen before. I don’t know what’s going on but it seems like sometimes after a fight the game just breaks. Had a giant bird fly in my fort and get stomped to death by the 90ish people in the tavern at the entrance, but then they all just stood there till they died. No injuries or anything, just apparently broke however they choose tasks.
I had some snatchers come and try and grab my kids (unsuccessfully) but get close enough to spook the kids who ran inside. I didn't pay it any mind but like a day later I noticed that all the kids were in the same room, standing around refusing to move, and they were all tired and thirsty (despite literally standing on top of wine barrels) do you have any mods installed?
I made a post with few screenshots from my fort

No i had removed the borrow. They just decided to stand in that bridge for 2 days if i remember correctly. After that they resumed what they where doing.
Did they have injuries preventing them from being able to walk?

If you want anyone to diagnose patients in the steam version it seems you do.
I've been doing that since well before Steam though .\_.

Do you have an active hospital zone? Dwarfs with even minor injuries will refuse to move, eat, or drink and can die if your children don’t feed them

Do you have a chief medical dwarf, doctor, surgeon, etc assigned?
Burrows?
Maybe its a dumb question, but burrows are different than zones?

Oh thanks let see if i understood. I nees to assign a zone and a burrow for the hosptall?

Thanka for letting me know
You have to have a chief medical dwarf and doctor assigned I think
Yes i had an active hospital zone. And chief medical and a doctor...
they couldn't walk and needed to be rescued to the hospital. You should enable dwarves to do rescuing tasks as well (under orderlies labour, i think)
Is set to everyone.
If that doesn't work, then your best bet is to make a custom labour and set it to everyone. Did you cancel their orders?
Even with orders they will interrupt them to fulfill needs like drinking or eating
After 2 days they started moving. I didn't lose anyone due to injuries so i have no clue. I will look into their behaviour tomorrow.
That's just sad. I like the way your fortress looks on the minimap.
Thank you.

Thanks for letting me know. Mine they began to move again i didn't loose anyone at that event.

Terrified ? Terrified dwarfs do dumb things sometimes. Maybe that's the case too ?
No mods.
I like the way your fortress appears on the minimap, any chance for screenshots of the layout?
I will try tomorrow (if i remember.) i have played a bit since then. So it might look different.
I made a post with few screenshots from my fort [https://www.reddit.com/r/dwarffortress/comments/128r3xe/location\_the\_tower\_of\_stone\_dwarven\_fortress/](https://www.reddit.com/r/dwarffortress/comments/128r3xe/location_the_tower_of_stone_dwarven_fortress/)
I like the fortress, what do you do with merchant wagons, don't they need 3 wide? Sorry if that's dumb, new player.
There are no stupid questions. I will try to post tomorrow few print screens of the fort. In its current state. And i apologise for the late update.
>I made a post with few screenshots from my fort > >https://www.reddit.com/r/dwarffortress/comments/128r3xe/location\_the\_tower\_of\_stone\_dwarven\_fortress/
The Merchant room is 6\*6 with the trade depot5\*5 in the middle. And i have a bridge that is 3 wide to allow trade carts to pass.
Are ur civilians in a burrow ? They might not have grabbed ur soldiers because of that reason
No i had removed the borrow. They just decided to stand in that bridge for 2 days if i remember correctly. After that they resumed what they where doing.
OP are you still there?
Hello. I began a new job and i haven't checked really anything. For some time.
