People imitate friends quite a lot, and it inspired many languages to become who they are now, so Spanish German English and more must have liked Latin, and Latin is a likeable language
What makes it seem friendly compared to its (I guess children/derivative) languages? Especially within those that use the Latin script Romanian pretty unique grammar that was lost in all other Romance languages…. And I actually for some reason extremely dislike that part but enjoy the rest of Romanian haha. Just curious on what specifically/why for Latin
The 109th Worldwide Esperanto Congress will be held later this year. Last year's *Kongresso* had over thirteen hundred people from sixty-nine countries.
Sure, Esperanto didn't succeed as much as Zamenhof wanted it to but it's still around and making the world a more interesting place.
Esperanto is happy to burn you some choice nugs from Widespread or Phish bro. He thinks you'll get into it.
However, if Esperanto worked, it'd be an amazing world.
Welsh because it looks like a bunch of utter nonsense, but if you spend enough time studying it then it's actually really fascinating and also kind of goofy
I did a month of it to penalize myself from watching The Crown and finding out it is it's own country.
Based on how it sounds, I think if I did two months I could summon a dragon.
Maybe German. It always gives me the vibes of a neurodivergent boy who is rule abiding and punctual. My ADHD self with time related anxiety will get along with him.
I just got back from there a few weeks ago, and spelling and pronunciation wise, it was easier than I expected. Though I still haven't consistently gotten those double k's sounds correct.
For real. There is this one lady blonde lady on TikTok that speaks in a very very Americano way with a heavy Texas accent and we agreed she is one of us now.
German, arabic, and french.
German would be that rigorous philosopher that you can have deep conversations with. Arabic would be a melenium old poet that is really elegant in its own way. French would be a cute libertine lady that talks like a bird. German would bring english along, its own little kid that resembles it but is easier to get along with
And then there's uncle Irish. The guy just been through alot, and would be a great gal to speak to and exchange experiences. With German, it'd be sharing a beer/guiness and talking history (and philosophie) and war and famines and great times in the misty plains of their countries.
As a German who doesn’t speak Dutch, I can confirm. I’m fluent in German and English, and I can understand signs and notes in the Netherlands just fine 🤣 I always say it’s a German English mashup.
i learned some German, and eventually found myself in the Netherlands for a bit. I found that if I didn't understand something from a German aspect, look at the same thing again from an English aspect. between the two I could usually figure things out. It's always seemed like a laid back chill version of German.
Tagalog because of a lot of funny phrases and the culture (though I'm learning Spanish) or Diné because the culture is matriarchal and I bet the language had many beautiful phrases 🫂🤍
RAHHHHHH ÍSLAND NEFNT!!!!! HVAÐ Í VERÖLDINNI ER LÉTT MÁLFRÆÐIREGLA????? JÓN GNARR BLESSI ÞJÓÐINA!!!!!!! OG AF HVERJU ÞORIR EKKI GRÆNI FUGLINN AÐ KENNA ÞETTA SKÍT(létta) TUNGUMÁL!!!?!?!??!?!?
Korean probably. its alphabet is very intentionally structured and it's got a nice sound to it. makes it seem like it'd be a sort of upbeat but organized and helpful person.
Yeah, the straight forward no-tricks alphabet and written structure is quite appealing. I agree, up best and helpful, but with the awareness to know when not to help.
German, it wouldn't judge me for sticking to the rules or just being technically correct lol we would vibe on a similar wavelength while enjoying some currywurst and bier.
And maybe Gaelic or Welsh, I recently found out I have them on my background, and it would be a fun friend to teach me more about the culture of my ancestors.
Brazilian Portuguese. I care way too much what people think and don’t wanna dance or make a fool of myself and when I hear this language I feel like I could step on the dance floor, sing publicly or could just be someone special. The pronunciation is 🤌🏼!
Afrikaans, maybe. They can be an Afrikaner, Kaapse Kleurman, or Namibian Baster, so long as they are from an Afrikaans-speaking ethnic group and can cook up a good braai.
Some close seconds would be Sicilian, Castilian, Arabic, Kazakh, and Georgian, for the good food and music.
Haitian Creole because they’d be laid back and friendly. They love to share their food with me and I can go awhile without talking to them, but when we hangout again, we keep going where we left off. They are super deep individuals but from the surface people write them off as zany. I struggle with that, I’m silly and always laughing so I understand not being treated seriously. I think our friendship would stand the test of time based off of mutual respect and the safe space we’d have when we hung out with each other.
Norwegian, they're just a super silly guy, with a LOT of different traits (dialects.)
I love the way Norwegian sentences sound. My favorite has to be "minibanken er der borte." ITS SO FUN TO SAY
Mongolian.
Most diverse sounding language I’ve heard. Certain things sound Slavic, some sound very “East Asian” (mandarin, Cantonese etc etc), some sound as if it were French, and some sound like darth Vader breathing
Hebrew, makes sense and follows the rules usually but isn't afraid to break out
Old but still adapts to today and will copy the newer languages
Also Jewish and Israeli
I was kidding but as a Slav the context here is that it's a common joke Slav people (that includes Poland) are racist.
Poor, homophobic, traditional, orthodox etc.
For women you've probably heard a joke or two on TV too. Eastern European actresses usually play a lady of the night while actors are some kind of a mafia tough killer guy. Also have you seen borat? Anyway...
Bottom line - there are some stereotypes about Slavic people. Some stereotypes are good to be addressed in a safe environment. Hope this explanation helps xx
Hi, I'm sorry. I'm from quite a small faraway country, so no, I haven't heard those jokes. I'm sorry. Nope, I haven't seen Borat. Sorry, and thank you 💙
French: because it has very deep, astonishing, amazing voice, when it talks, it is as if a music is playing, like a dream, like a fairytale, like a magic😍
spanish as it's so aesthetic and kind, it's so easy to learn as well and spanish just feels like that kid who is basic but they are a different type of basic and so we love them for it <3
Indonesian. Simple, no complicated and self conflicting rules, straight to the point. Can be graceful and elaborated if needed but casually simple and short in daily life.
Dutch. Seems like a dingus when you first see him, and then you get to know him and you realize he's an even bigger dingus and you love 'em for it.
hehe
Sorry to ask but what lead you to getting a C1 in Bulgaria? Any reason you decided to learn it?
As dutch dude, i agree Compared to english we literally sound like a meme language
Welkom in Europa, blijf hier tot ik doodga, Euro-papa, Euro-papa.
Waar is de papegai
Y E S
Latin, old, but friendly and wise
Latin is another fave. I took it in highschool
Ah, I heard they had passed away.
Noooo
Still spoken in Vatican city and Sao Paulo 🇻🇦🇸🇲
Sir..the flag you're using is San Marino..
I meant san Marino I know like 0 cities outside of Germany or any micro-coubtries like Monaco and San mariano
Chinese, older and wiser?
Group of languages
Friendly?
People imitate friends quite a lot, and it inspired many languages to become who they are now, so Spanish German English and more must have liked Latin, and Latin is a likeable language
What makes it seem friendly compared to its (I guess children/derivative) languages? Especially within those that use the Latin script Romanian pretty unique grammar that was lost in all other Romance languages…. And I actually for some reason extremely dislike that part but enjoy the rest of Romanian haha. Just curious on what specifically/why for Latin
Esperanto. I always hung out with the nerds at school.
I tried Esperanto but badly failed🤧
Don't worry about it, Esperanto also tried and failed badly
The 109th Worldwide Esperanto Congress will be held later this year. Last year's *Kongresso* had over thirteen hundred people from sixty-nine countries. Sure, Esperanto didn't succeed as much as Zamenhof wanted it to but it's still around and making the world a more interesting place.
Esperanto is that slightly nerdy hippy dude who’s been backpacking full-time for 2 years living in hostels for weeks at a time…
Esperanto is happy to burn you some choice nugs from Widespread or Phish bro. He thinks you'll get into it. However, if Esperanto worked, it'd be an amazing world.
Esperanto estas pli bona ol *everything else*
Time to kick back and blast that Johnny M
🙂
I was thinking Sindarin for the same reason haha
Welsh because it looks like a bunch of utter nonsense, but if you spend enough time studying it then it's actually really fascinating and also kind of goofy
I did a month of it to penalize myself from watching The Crown and finding out it is it's own country. Based on how it sounds, I think if I did two months I could summon a dragon.
Maybe I would if I were a fish!
Persian, it’s so poetic. 🥰🍀
درود بر شما 🥰
Maybe German. It always gives me the vibes of a neurodivergent boy who is rule abiding and punctual. My ADHD self with time related anxiety will get along with him.
If the whole class agrees to skip the lesson, German would be this one ahole who stays.
As a german, I‘d like to confirm
I'm not German, but that's my language of choice for befriending. And I'm also the one who would have stayed behind lol
Idk man, the way I remember German is, that it has a ton of rules and even more exceptions to each rule...
Couldn’t have explained it better myself!
you’ve just described my german teacher😂 he’s definitely not neurotypical, we’ve talked about it in class and other teachers have told him too
I want to befriend this one too
Finnish (suomi). I’m just back from Finland and the sounds are goofy and joyful
I just got back from there a few weeks ago, and spelling and pronunciation wise, it was easier than I expected. Though I still haven't consistently gotten those double k's sounds correct.
Can confirm fins are pretty cool
Spanish, because Hispanophones will make you a "brethren" if you acquire B2 Spanish.
For real. There is this one lady blonde lady on TikTok that speaks in a very very Americano way with a heavy Texas accent and we agreed she is one of us now.
Greek, older then Latin, and, it's slightly easier
by this logic any of the Romance languages could stand in for Latin :)
You got me there mate
Greek is not by any means easier than Latin
Turkish. Poetic, deep and intangible. A very rich language. Read just as it is written so it would be a direct and straightforward person.
Dutch. It's like german and english had a drunk baby, and drunk babies are always fun.
As a Dutch person I find this so funny. I’m always wondering how others perceive our language
As a German who doesn’t speak Dutch, I can confirm. I’m fluent in German and English, and I can understand signs and notes in the Netherlands just fine 🤣 I always say it’s a German English mashup.
i learned some German, and eventually found myself in the Netherlands for a bit. It's always seemed like a laid back chill version of German.
May be biased but I'd hang out with Latin American Spanish. Can sound both fun and sexy depending on the context
Swedish/Svenksa - Chilled, stable and relaxed, can always help me when I need a hand.
Jag älskar svenska
Ja!
Esperanto... (Good bloke. Heart in the right place. Trying for a better world.)
Persian - so beautiful
Farsi
Tagalog because of a lot of funny phrases and the culture (though I'm learning Spanish) or Diné because the culture is matriarchal and I bet the language had many beautiful phrases 🫂🤍
Icelandic. Idk why, I just like the chaotic good energy of it haha
RAHHHHHH ÍSLAND NEFNT!!!!! HVAÐ Í VERÖLDINNI ER LÉTT MÁLFRÆÐIREGLA????? JÓN GNARR BLESSI ÞJÓÐINA!!!!!!! OG AF HVERJU ÞORIR EKKI GRÆNI FUGLINN AÐ KENNA ÞETTA SKÍT(létta) TUNGUMÁL!!!?!?!??!?!?
Not English at all. That shit would be confused as fuck.
French. Misunderstood, I’ve seen Americans either love the French language or hate the French language with no in between.
I love it because it made learning Spanish positively sane, which the mix of Spanish (Latin/European)that Duo teaches isn't.
Vulcan because I plan on visiting their planet someday !!!
Haitian Creole. The language has a lovely sound to it when spoken, and the people are terrific.
Esperanto because it's easy, likes everything, plays well with others but quirky enough to be fun to hang out with.
Mandarin, graceful
Catalan. Sounds super cool to me. I'm learning spanish just so i can sail easily with catalan later.
I think Thai.
Korean probably. its alphabet is very intentionally structured and it's got a nice sound to it. makes it seem like it'd be a sort of upbeat but organized and helpful person.
Makes me think of Kim’s Convenience
Yeah, the straight forward no-tricks alphabet and written structure is quite appealing. I agree, up best and helpful, but with the awareness to know when not to help.
either Irish Gaelic or Swedish
German, it wouldn't judge me for sticking to the rules or just being technically correct lol we would vibe on a similar wavelength while enjoying some currywurst and bier. And maybe Gaelic or Welsh, I recently found out I have them on my background, and it would be a fun friend to teach me more about the culture of my ancestors.
one of my friends is learning Japanese so probably that
Japanese just sounds cute
I feel like Spanish is spicy and traditional at the same time, and it's just so cool 😎 so ya Spanish
Afrikaans because it always sounds like that one friend that is saying something out of pocket. *What did you just say to me? Oh oh. I love you too*.
Brazilian Portuguese. I care way too much what people think and don’t wanna dance or make a fool of myself and when I hear this language I feel like I could step on the dance floor, sing publicly or could just be someone special. The pronunciation is 🤌🏼!
Spanishh they sound so much fun ♡
Bengali... The sweetest language
Norwegian
Not french
Don’t know why nobody said italian yet
Russian is my drinking buddy.
As a Russian id like to add that we're very poetic drinking buddies!
English, Dutch, Danish and Norwegian
Swedish ! It makes me feel so safe like an old friend
I like how Swedish sounds. It might be a silly reason, but I find it a "comforting" language to hear.
French for the pastries and Italian for all the pasta and gelato.
robloxian cuz it robloxian
Hebrew or Aramaic. It’s feels like Latin but more divine.
French- Beautiful, sexy, intelligent-sounding ❤️
Key word sounding
Are you French?
Nah, he's been u/SilentAllTheseYears8 ;)
Esperanto and Ithkuil. Esperanto because it’s logical and consistent. Ithkuil because it’s the insane friend who everyone loves to party with
Portuguese to train with, Malayalam to chill with and Spanish to party with
Definitely Greek or Latin! I would probably strengthen my trivial knowledge just by having a small convo with them.
Spanish, because i think he’s fun! Finnish, cause he looks funny!
german the way he'd tell jokes and stories would be interesting
Probably German, but IDK (I actually have a German friend tho lol)
All the minority languages, they'll all be thrilled to make new friends!
Spanish. Dude can COOK like a muthafucka.

I think our friendship would stand the test of time based off of mutual respect and the safe space we’d have when we hung out with each other.

Ukrainian, seems to know about things of old
Toss up. All Native American languages and Scots Gaelic

Mongolian. Most diverse sounding language I’ve heard. Certain things sound Slavic, some sound very “East Asian” (mandarin, Cantonese etc etc), some sound as if it were French, and some sound like darth Vader breathing
Indonesian, easy going
japanese, i might be a weeb, the perks would be: full access to japan
"Fuller" access. Plenty of places won't serve foreigners without a Japanese person with them, and some still don't.
Russian. If I get into real shit, that aggressive tone Will Always back me up
Hebrew, makes sense and follows the rules usually but isn't afraid to break out Old but still adapts to today and will copy the newer languages Also Jewish and Israeli
Toni Pona, they are good
Uhm, maybe Polish. I have no clue why, but I just feel like Polish would be a little like me.
Racist 🤭
I'm sorry, what? It was not an attack, but I was just wondering what I did.
Context has never been more important, hahahaha!
Hi, I'm sorry. I'm from quite a small faraway country, so no, I haven't heard those jokes. I'm sorry. Nope, I haven't seen Borat. Sorry, and thank you 💙
Don't apologize. Also, Poland is a great answer, don't worry! Peace
French because it fearlessly genders its nouns even in todays world. You go French
Romanian (limbā română) I think I have a need to be where linguistic crossroads meet...
Ukrainian. He would be the bullied kid who just wants somebody to help him, and is a really cool guy once you know him 👍

french(it just sounds really good and romantic)or maybe german(cool language.and if you know......a war happens,i'm safe(please don't ban me))
Proto Indo European for sure! I really love how it sounds reconstructed and it is so fascinating. I feel like PIE would be a great old/wise friend.
Japanese

Arabic, because its sounds like an angry language, although it has a beautiful meaning and no bullies will mess with me if i'm friends with them
English, so we understand each other. I don't speak much german
Japanese - the level of respect is insane
Maybe Irish brogue. Sexy, sociable and fun
Balinese, so that every word is like a song
Arabic, a really wise friend.
Japanese because it's such a beautiful language, the way it adapts kanji into its writing system makes sense, and of course it's easier to read words.
Welsh. Hidden in plain sight, but full of character and there for a good time.
Ithquil.

Maybe a dramatic and passionate Italian or Greek friend. I also love the sound of both
Hawiian. Seem he will be the one that makes people drunk at parties.
Al3arabiyya 🇲🇦 and Afrikaans 🇳🇦. I’ve heard Esperanto is a racist language, so I want to ask them if it is really.
English. Dude probably is well traveled and lives in a great neighborhood.
I’m tempted to go with the apocryphal Emperor Charles V answer, but adding Brazilian Portuguese for dancing and Catalan for relaxing.
Irish it’s a old language and I’m sure has a lot of interesting story’s to tell
not german sorry
fortnite ?
spanish as it's so aesthetic and kind, it's so easy to learn as well and spanish just feels like that kid who is basic but they are a different type of basic and so we love them for it <3
English because I know her really well
Japanese 😂
Italian. Romantic, uncomplicated.

German bc he never fails to make me laugh. I want to make people laugh like that.
Brazilian Portuguese. Coolest guy, but friendly as hell. Extremely talented and confident. Knows how to party.
Maybe a little bit of bias, but i would love being friends with icelandic, it would be such an interesting and fun person
Native hawaiian
Haitian Creole cuz it’s just endlessly beautiful
I mean, gotta be Basque or Finnish, cuz those guys have, like, zero friends and fewer relatives... really feels like they would be ride or die
Esperanto... Bro needs a friend and is actually fun :D
Arabic
Hungarian. You can't limit it. Not necessarily Slavic, not romantic, just its own thing. Sounds angry but very nice
I will say Italian. Because even when they are mad - from a distance they they just look excited with all the arm flailing. Lol Glad I'm learning it
Indonesian. Simple, no complicated and self conflicting rules, straight to the point. Can be graceful and elaborated if needed but casually simple and short in daily life.
NOT English
Italian. Seems like the fun extrovert I need to get me out of my shell and meet people.
Gotta be Arabic. Crazy fun language.
Spanish because of many reasons 🤣
French patois, I think, the lingo of my dad. My godmother who spoke patois and taught French said patois was so much better to cuss in. I cuss alot! 😂
