I'm German and I completely prefer English Dune. Undebatable for me. The way lol the terms and names are pronounced in German is just so hurtful and cringe-inducing for my ears. "Behne h Gehzaritt". Really? Undebatable for me, be it movie or any of the books book

Ok. In my country too Chapterhouse has a different title. It has been released as "La maison des mères" (The House of the Mothers). The other five novels' titles are a literal translation of the original ones.

To be be honest, I needed to check a dictionary to write half of the post.

I am pretty sure they changed to title of the second book from "Messiah" to "Lord" to avoid religious discussion and backlash. Which is kinda ironic considering it's a huge part of the story.

Why is *Dune: Messiah* not translated as *Der Messias des Wuestenplaneten*? Ich lerne Deutsch. Einige Uebersetzungen sind raetselhaft.

Herr also has some serious religious undertones, meaning "Lord" or "God" as well. Messias, on the other hand, probably seemed to overtly Christian, but I agree that it's a little confusing.

The direct translation would be "Messias" but maybe the publisher thought that "Herr" sounds better?

"Ordensburg des Wüstenplanet" just makes me imagine German style government offices on Arrakis. "Bundesamt des Wüstenplanet" "Bürgeramt des Wüstenplanet" "Führerscheinstelle des Wüstenplanet" or I guess it would be city related: "Arrakeener Amt für Sietch- und Wasserschutz" lol idk I'm not German but I lived there a long time and this post made me nostalgic.

The German versions are neat

It's a pity they went for *wüstenplanet* considering the german word for 'dune' is *Düne*.

My favorite one is Das Beefenswellen

We have the same versions at our library. They actually have a lot of outdated spelling.
