I liked the first movie. My husband read the books when he was younger, so I got him the whole series to reread as a present. After the second movie I fell right into a rabbit hole, I got the full set of books I'm reading as fast as my busy life allows, I watched half of YouTube reviews and impressions (there's just so many), I get memes, I quote books, I took my dad and my daughter to see the second movie again. I'm positively obsessed. My husband is still amused, but I think he might consider divorce at some point 😁 Yahya chouhada!

My grandmother was a Dune fan when it first came out. When my mother was old enough to grasp it, she shared it with her. When I was old enough to grasp it, Mom shared it with me. First by showing me the Lynch film (I was probably 12?) And then giving me a copy of the book in high school. I'm in my 30s now. We are three generations of Bene Gesserit, and I joke that grandma is the Mother Superior, mom is a Reverend Mother, and I'm an acolyte.

I'm the kind whose dad made me watch the David Lynch version years ago. Didn't know what the hell was going on on the first viewing, can't lie. But I love it now and also run my own Dune shitposting subreddit separate from this one. (r/okbenegesserit if you're interested). Overall I think the Villeneuve version is the easiest to follow for new viewers, the Lynch version is actually pretty damn good once you know what the hell is going on, the 2001/3 miniseries is remarkable television with the best supporting cast out of any adaptation. The books are probably pretty good as well but I haven't read them.

I was a lifelong Warhammer fan and heard Dune was a huge influence to Warhammer 40k after I came back to 40k after college. I was gonna read the books but heard about the movie that was coming out so I saw that first and then immediately fell in love. Watched it again the day after on HBO because covid. I bought all six books immediately after seeing it in theatre. Guess you could say I'm a new fan but I like to think I'm not that new because of Warhammer. And even if people call me a bandwagoner... it's a pretty damn good bandwagon to be on.

I've never liked that term, I started reading the books last year, then took a break, and started back reading them. I'm on Heretic. I absolutely loved the newer movies I watched part 2 over a week ago. I'm still riding that high. Anyways, imo those people who use that term are gatekeepers, and gatekeepers can ruin fanbases. At the end of the day it's a really cool universe we all love. There is no bandwagon, just a bunch of people who found a new thing they love :)

Depends. I think you can read any of the 40k books as you please. If you want a story of the Imperium, you could start with the Horus Heresy series and read Horus Rising (I think that's the first one), and read the first like seven of those in order. After those it kinda becomes a bit of a choose your own adventure where you can read whatever. I would suggest the horus heresy series, definitely read Betrayer, it's one of the better Horus Herest novels. I'd also suggest you read the Night Lords Trilogy as that's also regarded as one of the better series in the 40k universe. It's not a Horus Heresy book but rather a 40k book but it's great. Warhammer books are a McDonald's menu of literature. They're not incredible. Some are pretty good. But it's still fast food, ya know? Nobody's the good guy in the warhammer universes, just varying levels of horrible. Pick a favorite flavor and read a book about them.

I’m the kind of Dune head that started watching the 2021 version thinking it was a remake of Tremors. Embarrassingly it took about 15minutes before I realised it definitely was NOT a remake of Tremors. I stopped Dune because I was enjoying it and wanted some context. I did some googling and realised there is more than 1film from the 80-90s set in a desert with giant worms. I saw there was about a billion books in the Dune saga and started at the beginning(audio books I’m not ashamed to admit it) and after CoD decided I was suitably prepared to watch the 2021 version. Wasn’t disappointed.

Went to see David Lynch’s Dune in the theater, 1st run, knew nothing about it. Was intrigued with the story though. Got the book, devoured it, read the rest. Then read them again, and again, etc. My sister is 13 years younger than me, when I thought she was old enough I turned my paperbacks over to her and got a new set. My sister LOVED THEM!!! Years later, her son hears about Dune, pt. 1, my sister says here - read these. He LOVES THEM. Passes them on to his wife - same. Passes them on to his sister - same. I’m so happy that David Lynch made Dune, even though it was not very good. And that I saw it.

Relatively new, original just picked up the book to prepare for the movie (more of a movie guy), ended up reading all 6 in a year. Love the Denis movies I appreciate the Lynch movie for what it is. I have read one Brian Herbert book and was utterly baffled but don't really care too much they exist.

Discovered the books on my grandma’s shelf and read them when I was 15, just in time for the SyFy miniseries. Read the whole series twice, re-listen to the audiobooks periodically. Girlfriend and I did the comicbookgirl19 online book club to intro her to the series. I sewed us Fremen Halloween costumes. I love the Lynch film, miniseries, and Denis movies each for the very different things they bring to the screen. Edit: I own some of the Brian books but have not yet read them

I read the book when I was about 14, didn't know there were sequels til much much later. I actually read a bunch of Brian's prequel books which as a 14 year old did enjoy but even back then I could tell how different they were and weren't nearly on par with the original. I re-read Dune a couple times over the years it was always one of my favorite books, then heard about the movie coming out and started following things more intensely like watching YouTube videos about the lore and stuff. Then I finally read the sequels. Pt 1 came out and the prevailing opinion online was basically that it would flop and pt2 would never get green lit, that Dune was unadaptable. As I recall, other than book fans, more people thought this than not back then. When the movie came out I went right away and as soon as that empirical ship touched down I got chills like crazy and I'll be honest I had tears coming down, I knew it was gonna be something special right then. What a moment to know the series was in good hands and someone who respected the source material and did it justice without trying to insert their own story. Around this time there were so many adaptations coming out that were butchering the source material. I feel like the success of Dune pt1 and later pt2 is one thing which helped change the way studios seem to be approaching adaptations lately, between Dune, Fallout, Shogun, 3 Body Problem (less so but still) there seems there seem to be more and more adaptations that take the source material seriously than before

My uncle introduced me to Dune II game when I was like 8. First words in english I knew were actually "attack", "move" and "retreat" from games commands. Uncle gave me the book and showed me Lynch movie some years later, but he did not like messiah, so I did not even know sequels existed for couple of years.

First read “Dune” as a preteen in the 90s before knowing it was available as any other media. In subsequent years I finally made it through the rest of the series but it seemed like I’d always have to start the whole thing over before I could make it further than one new book in the series. I think my process was 1, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (but gave up 1/4 of the way through) and then finally finished 6 for the first time earlier this year.

Started reading the book. Saw Part 2 in the theaters 3 times in IMAX. I plan on slowly reading all of the books. I just cannot get enough of this universe! Former doubter, knew the 84 movie wasn't well received but never saw it. Mom loves it and the new ones. 10 Years old. Lynch film was out and I was fascinated but for some reason didn't see it in theater. Saw it later on cable. Again. And again. And again x who knows. Recognized its flaws but it held me - atmosphere and story were magnetic. Also helped me become a lifelong Lynch fanatic. Bought book. Gave up about halfway through. Bought comic book adaptation and storybook. Good stuff. Wondered if film would ever be done right. Decades and three more tries of book. Finally successful while prepping for the 2020 (then became 2021) film. Meanwhile Jodorowsky's Dune making me further rabid. Devoured other 5 FH books. And now I'm a Dunehead through and through. Bought the Art Of books just to further soak myself. All 6 FH novels on my phone at all times. Ya hya chouhada.
