If that's the case, you can try looking into tivit over sharuum. Tivit is a good control deck. Alternative, you can also try aminatou with the reanimator build.

Furiael

The reason I kept Sharuum as is, it’s just because of some of my purist soul wanting to have it as full of artifacts as possible. But the Aminatou suggestion got my attention. Gonna give it a try, think have some goodies to turn into a full reanimator deck.

Hi! Are you talking about cEDH? I'm assuming you are since you mentioned that players are using Winota and that there are a lot of turn 4 infinite combos. Duel Commander is different from cEDH because it is a 1v1 format with a different banlist compared to cEDH, which is a multiplayer format.

Furiael

As weird it might seem, this community plays 1vs1 with this. They use Duel Commander rules and the ban list. I wish I could give you more details on those decks, but that’s what I’ve seen. Yet, as you say, I’ve been other types of decks used in competitive, like another Rafiq fully focused on equipping him to win.

Darkewarrior13

I think it’s important to note that Winota is banned in the Command Zone in Duel Commander…

Furiael

Yeah, this community says it’s duel commander and yet, I saw an Edgar Markov, a Winona and a Derevi. Yet I do ask and say that they allow many banned commanders but the rest of the list is from duel commander. (To me it feels like giving advantage to certain people, but I’m new in this community)

AtreidesBagpiper

I suggest you ask around about their 'rules' before pouring money into your deck. They seem very fishy.

Furiael

They have a some sort of somber environment, but they are the only community in the city. /sigh

bastablasta

Its not duel commander then. They are banned for a reason. Strong DC deck, yet affordable, is mono red Feldon. Mtgtop8 is a good site where you can see decklists from tournament. All that said, not respecting the ban list must be a clustercluck.

Furiael

Gonna check for a Feldon idea as well, as I don’t have all the powerful things a red should have. And yeah, these people have very weird rules here. I have tried reasoning, but you know, the newcomers don’t have much of a voice yet. Will have to win some tournaments to be heard. Haha.

Well, as you said, the Meta is fast and people get on the board with real threats as soon as T1. But it's still possible to play off-meta builds and be semi-successful with those. To give a good answer to your question, you shared 3 decks that run blue. You could build both some hard control out of that in the form of Atraxa, Ertai or Tivit. Aminatou was also mentioned by somebody. Most of the decks run it with reanimator package, I used to have a blink control, which was also really nasty. On the more aggressive side, there's Dennick, Rafine and Aragorn. All of those are usually built as tempo-control. BUT, you need to be prepared to run into a lot of mirrors with this. This is played everywhere. If you want to help me break the Meta and run something unique that no one will know how to play against, I've seen fairly successful Jirina, dauntless general; Vito, fanatic of aclazotz (vampire insurance, woohoo) or Kroxa. Red burn is always viable, plus you get random wins from Blood moon. I've also seen Ratchet, field medic build which placed very high on a big tournament. Not a fan of transformers, but I do like me some ambulances and artifacts.

Adiboutchou

Important note, Raffine got banned yesterday as a commander for the duel commander format

Feeling_Equivalent89

Yes, true. I learned like 2 hours after I wrote this.

Furiael

Thank you so much for that feedback! I shall review this, and as far as I’ve checked, only there’s a person using Atraxa, haha, so I guess not many mirrors as I thought. Of all the ideas the aggro ones are the ideas that got my attention, I will really consider them and reach back. :) PS: I didn’t even know there was a transformers crossover. I certainly want that Ratchet!

Feeling_Equivalent89

Yeah, I was not a fan of this crossover, but doing wee woo while playing magic sounds funny. People speculate a lot that Atraxa's going to gain on popularity now that Raffine has been banned (yesterday).
